Alt-Hero Volume 1

A backer requests a discussion thread:
Can we start a thread on the Alt-Hero Volume 1 Omnibus? Got mine in the mail.
They have gone out to US backers and we anticipate they will go out to UK/Europe/ROW next week. Discuss amongst yourselves.

Still awaiting mine

Blogger LR27 September 19, 2019 9:48 PM

I am regretting not backing the first campaign, but bought the normie omnibus anyway and enjoyed it very much. The inside jokes were pretty epic. I will definitely be buying more or less every comic you guys make from here on out. Wodehouse wasn’t really my thing, but the wife loved that omnibus.

Blogger Korbin Ransley September 19, 2019 9:53 PM

Really enjoyed the digital ones I managed to get. Looking forward to reading more in the future. Really cool stuff. Shade getting his own series is pretty awesome.

Blogger #7139 September 19, 2019 10:05 PM

Still waiting with anticipation.

Blogger Bibliotheca Servare September 19, 2019 10:16 PM

Wish I could have afforded the omnibus, but the digital editions have been awesome. Never thought I'd actually *buy* a comic book, but then I never thought something like Arkhaven would exist, either. But it does, and I did, and I'm very happy with the decision.

Blogger Al K. Annossow September 19, 2019 10:51 PM

I just found mine outside my front door. I think it's the Alt-Hero omnibus. The package doesn't have directions on how to open it. I guess cleverness isn't my super power. I need to call a blue haired lesbian wheel chairer for help. Better yet, could someone send Rebel around to help me?

Blogger B-Rex September 19, 2019 10:51 PM

Got mine today, looks great! looking forward to the next issue

Blogger Beau September 19, 2019 10:52 PM

As a token of thanks, Adrian gave his former parole agent and comic book aficionado a freshly delivered copy of Alt-Hero 1. Buck helped Adrian get it right. Adrian is now a sophomore in college. Buck was blown away that he would be so remembered. Thank you Lord Jesus.

Blogger Northwest Watching Thing September 19, 2019 11:18 PM

I'm not a backer, but I got mine from Amazon ~2 weeks ago. I've been busy, so I've only read through the first 2 comics but what I've seen is excellent.
I left it on my coffee table and caught my two teens reading through it. Big success with them.

Blogger Fozzy Bear September 19, 2019 11:23 PM

Still waiting, but I have all the gold logos, and the digital editions so I’m not impatient. Alt-Hero: Q however, I am thirsting for.

Blogger werekoala2004 September 19, 2019 11:31 PM

Can't wait to get it so I can share it with my friends and begin an Alt-Hero RPG campaign! Any word on when the Rebel figures might be available?

Blogger Rex Leroy King September 19, 2019 11:44 PM

Production editor here.

I'm interested in what you think about the print omnibus in a few areas.

1. Technical flaws in the printing. Color, trimming, binding, page warping, etc.
2. Layout and lettering. Is it easy to read?
3. Omnibus design. When combining six issues into one volume for presentation, we made many choices about packaging and interstitial material.

I am not interested in feedback on the story, illustration, or coloring. Those are separate concerns.

Blogger Azure Amaranthine September 19, 2019 11:52 PM

Got mine, looks nice. Unfortunately I can't tell you much about the contents since I got it with the intent to gift it to my younger brother, so I want to keep it in pristine form.

Blogger Azure Amaranthine September 19, 2019 11:53 PM

I can tell you that I see no warping, and that the binding looks and feels good. The cover also has no flaws that I noticed.

Blogger Peaceable Citizen September 20, 2019 12:03 AM

Did the US comic store campaign ever happen?

Blogger James Pyrich September 20, 2019 12:44 AM

It just occurred to me that I've been expecting the omnibus but should I have seen emails about it?

Blogger OvergrownHobbit September 20, 2019 12:48 AM

...and it's on Ingram. Let's see what happens.

Blogger Richard Martel September 20, 2019 1:02 AM

Not a big comic guy but now I have to check this series out. I'm also eagerly awaiting the Midgard series you discussed.

Blogger JimR September 20, 2019 2:07 AM

I think I have bought 5 copies of every gold logo edition especially the one with no word bubbles
Eagerly awaiting the omnibus, am a backer, may well buy 5 more, for investments.

Or just to piss off the SJW's Either way, go me.

VOX! I’m a backer and live in the uk and need to change my address - can you kindly tell me how can I do that?

This year, it's probably some paperwork. Next year? You have to kill the people living at the old address.

Blogger McChuck September 20, 2019 6:09 AM

1. Technical flaws in the printing. Color, trimming, binding, page warping, etc. Haven't noticed any flaws yet. It appears to be a really professional, well done job.

2. Layout and lettering. Is it easy to read? The lettering is easy to read, and the timeline flow is easy to follow. That puts you head and shoulders above a lot of others.

3. Omnibus design. When combining six issues into one volume for presentation, we made many choices about packaging and interstitial material. It looks good. The interstitial material is a nice bonus, and doesn't get in the way. It's thicker than I expected, because you used high quality paper and what appears to be a decent binding.

Blogger John Fitzgerald September 20, 2019 6:27 AM

Purchased a hardcover edition a number of weeks back.

Great overall quality, great paper and binding. Easily readable.

It disappeared into my six-year olds domain for a few days and came back with no damage. No broken bindings so kudos for a high quality binding job. Can't say the same for editions of Totoro or Kiki.

Keep up the high quality paper work as I much prefer paper to digital.

Blogger Pelayo Asturias September 20, 2019 6:36 AM

Backer here - got mine yesterday

1. No tech flaws
2. Easy to read
3. Omnibus format is great & very high quality

Thanks

If you're a backer who has received an omnibus, don't forget to review it on Amazon if you have an account there. Be as detailed and specific as you can.

I have the backers hardcover, almost done with reading it!

1. Color and binding seem excellent. No bleed through on the pages or anything like that.
I actually do notice page warping though. Not every page is bad but every dozen pages or so.
If you view the the book closed from the top or from the bottom you can really see it.

2. Layout and lettering are great, easy to read, just the right amount of text and I was never confused as to which bubble to read next.

3. The design is great. It's easy to find which issue I want and I love the black and white interstitial. I think the backer cover is beautiful. Really A+ cover, it stands out.

Vox, any time frame on the figurine for backers of the first campaign?

No, and there is no reason to ask about these things. When I have information, I post it. I don't hold onto the information until someone asks about it.

We have finally found a supplier I think will work to our satisfaction in the long run. Now we're having artists submit possible poses for it.

Blogger LR27 September 20, 2019 8:12 AM

After reading alt-hero Q #1 I am in serious need of the next issues.

Blogger LR27 September 20, 2019 8:15 AM

I received the normal edition omnibus and did not notice any major printing issues with mine. Mine was very legible and I saw no significant issues with the print.

Blogger LR27 September 20, 2019 8:16 AM

I’m feeling pretty stupid that I didn’t get the gold logo editions

Blogger Longtime Lurker September 20, 2019 9:49 AM

AHv1 arrived yesterday in good condition.

Supporting the AH project is one of the better entertainment decisions I have ever made.

Mass kudos to all involved.

Blogger Jason the Gentleman September 20, 2019 9:57 AM

I got the Omnibus from Amazon as I wasn't aware of the existence of Vox in general until this year. But to answer the questions...

1. Technical flaws in the printing. Color, trimming, binding, page warping, etc.
Everything was great except that the right side of my cover has some residue on it. Made me think of a stickers residue. Tried to scratch it off with my finger to no success, but didn't want to risk using anything else as it's not extreme damage

2. Layout and lettering. Is it easy to read?
I had no concerns, it all seemed great to me.

3. Omnibus design. When combining six issues into one volume for presentation, we made many choices about packaging and interstitial material.
Plebian version was, imo, fantastic and looked wonderful.

Looking forward to the other omnibus' to come now that I'm involved, and I need to get my contribution into the movie soon as the funding period ends shortly..
Thanks!

Blogger fredulent September 20, 2019 10:47 AM

A little confused about backer numbers. I can only find contribution numbers for each separate contribution. I emailed about an address change a while ago.

Some are still available.

Blogger Avalanche September 20, 2019 11:48 AM

@19 "I think I have bought 5 copies of every gold logo edition especially the one with no word bubbles."

Me too, but I bought just three copies of the gold logo editions. Backer, so I got the electronic as well.

I am NOT a comics person: I thought the omnibus would just be the six individual issues bound together. Backed it anyway to support Vox, Arkhaven/Castalia, and Alt-Tech. It came yesterday. It's GORGEOUS! And as I'm reading carefully, looking closely at all the pictures: "wait -– I don't remember that happening! I don't remember meeting these new heroes. And ... slightly different, better, longer plot points? OMG! *Omnibus* means more story, more pages, more everything!!"

If you have passed on the omnibus because "I bought the individual issues": emergency-all-stop! Go NOW and buy the omnibus and revel!

@12 Rex
1. Technical flaws...
Paperback omnibus: perfect. No flaws, no warping. Kudos to printer -– very well and protectively packaged. Not even any corner dents! I'm in Georgia, so whichever printer covers this area did amazing work!

2. Layout and lettering...
Once or twice I read the bubbles out of order – but it didn't affect the storyline. The white bubbles made it easy on old eyes.

3. Omnibus design. When combining six issues into one volume for presentation...
Love love love the page background colors. Each one fits the 'mood' of the frames on the page; sorry, I'm not sure of the terminology? Loved the ombre effect on some of them; fit well with the story at each point. The "Paris" background bleeding up as a border-fill was great, worked perfectly! The bleed from a single frame to create the divider/border also really worked.

The occasional layering of a frame over the edge of another frame or over the border makes the pages move. Also the occasional frame-bleed off the page entirely worked well. I'm thinking of a couple of Ryu bleeding slightly (intentionally; not a print flaw) off the page edge.

I really enjoyed the B&W additional graphics. Made an excellent break between issues and introduced –- or developed -- other heroes. Front and back covers were great: deep rich colors, but not dark and hard to distinguish.

Over all? Magnificent! BRAVAE!

Is Jeeves coming to England?

Blogger Leoric September 20, 2019 1:51 PM

Got mine. Looks beutifull. Already read the story from digitals but it is nice to list through and feel the physical copy. Left it for wife to read when she has time.

Blogger justaguy September 20, 2019 3:12 PM

ditto above

Blogger Wraithburn September 20, 2019 3:17 PM

Just got my copy! I'd forgotten I backed at the level where you received the omnibus but not the individuals in physical form. That's an excellent surprise for the weekend.

Blogger Rex Leroy King September 20, 2019 4:19 PM

@43, we had no idea we'd be able to do individual print issues at the beginning, so we didn't offer them. Our printer wants to get into comics, so they made it possible for us to do issues without going deeply in the red.

I am very grateful for that, because we learned a lot about technical production over the last 18 months, improving our processes and quality from issue to issue, and with such different projects as Quantum Mortis, Right Ho Jeeves, Rebel Dead Revenge, Avalon, and of course Alt-Hero.

@40, it's a matter of copyright. Right Ho is in public domain in the US, but not, I believe, anywhere else.

Blogger DJ | AMDG September 20, 2019 6:41 PM

Is the color wash related to the paper? Having only read the digital issues first it strikes me the color is a bit muted. Did Ingram print these?

Blogger JeighDi September 21, 2019 2:52 AM

Still wish you had added a panel or two giving a brief explanation of what kind of world this is. To me at least it's like starting to read a story on page three because the first two pages are missing.

Blogger Keen September 21, 2019 5:42 AM

Hmm, I have not received mine yet. Starting to get worried...

Blogger Keen September 21, 2019 8:14 AM

Haha, the book just arrived. Got the paperback. It looks beautiful.

Blogger Keen September 21, 2019 8:58 AM

Impressively, it looks even better in print than it does in digital.

Blogger S1AL September 21, 2019 3:14 PM

@Keen - got mine today. Most mail companies have split the country into regions and you see 1 day of extra delay between regions for delivery.

Blogger S1AL September 21, 2019 3:26 PM

Rex - overall, looks really clean, good quality. Single issue mine has is a small, circular indent in the front cover. Only noticeable if you tilt it in the light, no idea what caused it, and it would only matter to a really serious collector. No corner/cover damage from transport, which puts it on a better level than a lot of companies for a book of this weight.

Blogger Ookamikun September 22, 2019 12:01 AM

US backer. Got mine yesterday. Love it! When is volume 2 coming out?

Blogger Unknown September 22, 2019 1:16 PM

Which email should I send my backer info/inquiry to? I have sent out 4 emails to various ones, to update my shipping info and thus far I have not gotten a response, nor have I seen my backer editions.
Thanks

DJ | AMDG wrote:Is the color wash related to the paper? Having only read the digital issues first it strikes me the color is a bit muted. Did Ingram print these?

Yes, printed by Ingram on 70 lb matte paper. Color muting is the result of both the paper and the limitations of CMYK ink.

The next omnibus will be Avalon Volume 1, containing issues 1-6. We've published the first four issues already. When 5 and 6 have been published, we'll start assembling the omnibus.

Alt-Hero #7 is underway as well, but obviously the omnibus containing issues 7-12 is a long way off.

Blogger Korbin Ransley September 23, 2019 3:54 AM

Glad Alt☆Hero #7 is in the works. Picked up the rest I didn't have on Kindle already and binged read them immediately.

Hammer is my favorite comic book character. Durand and Christian are awesome. Volume #4 contains the greatest moment in comic book history.

Talk about the heroes we need.

Blogger Stilicho September 23, 2019 11:28 AM

Mine still hasn't arrived. Perhaps I failed to understand what was being shipped. I was a $75 backer and thought I was supposed to get the hardcover omnibus of the first 6 issues.

Blogger #7139 September 23, 2019 5:51 PM

Report from somewhere in Indiana, still waiting for my hardcover omnibus edition to arrive.

Blogger James Pyrich September 23, 2019 7:08 PM

Likewise here in Colorado, hardcover backer. I'll update here when I get it or send an email next week if I don't have it yet.

Blogger Arkani September 24, 2019 12:47 PM

Did anyone receive email notification that hardcovers are being shipped? I have found out about them being shipped only when amazon suggested me to buy it.
Hopefully I was not forgotten and will get mine. Samll EU country.

Blogger Silent Draco September 24, 2019 4:12 PM

Received my hardcover today. Hard cover looks good, artwork and lettering placed well, and the colors pop. Internal pages look and feel good. Images centered, dialog bubbles placed well and easily followed. The extended frames reinforce the story, and the B&W artwork makes great act changes.

Blogger #7139 September 24, 2019 6:01 PM

My hardcover omnibus backer edition arrived today. It looks great. The SDL and the production team delivered what was promised.
