Announcing Castalia Deluxe

The much-anticipated monthly subscription to join the Castalia Deluxe Book Club and receive a deluxe leather-bound book published by Castalia House every other month is now available.
  • Genuine leather bindings
  • Gilded cover and spine titling
  • Gilded page edges
  • Archival-quality paper
  • First-rate fiction
  • Timeless classics of history, science, and philosophy
The first Deluxe Book Club book is the Deluxe edition of The Missionaries by Owen Stanley. And for the seriously hard-core book collector who has all the Franklin Signed First Editions, it's also possible to sign up for the limited-edition Library subscription.

Just to be clear, Castalia Deluxe is the main product and the Deluxe editions are the focus of this project. The Library editions are an ancillary experiment we're doing at the request of some very serious book collectors, and which the Deluxe editions make possible. In quality terms, we are targeting the late '80s Franklin Library editions for our Deluxe editions, albeit with better cover designs.

Very pumped, will sign up over the weekend. Nothimg beats high quality. I have also been enjoying Corporate Cancer while driving.

Blogger JimR November 20, 2019 2:28 PM

please tell me that "Heretics of St Possenti" will be one of the volumes soon.

Blogger Keith November 20, 2019 2:37 PM

Congrats! I will definitely pass this along to several people I know who might be interested. I encourage others to do so as well. It's also worth considering as a gift for worthy people.

Subscribed! The $125 is a good price, but still a bit out of my budgetary range at this time. But $50 is a go, Very happy to sign up for this!

Great work guys! Looking forward to seeing the end result in my hands. I subscribed at the deluxe level as soon as I got the email this morning. Will there be a way to get a single Library issue or will that require consistent subscription at the library title?

Blogger Keith November 20, 2019 2:50 PM

I picture the signatures of the books being sewn by silent monks who otherwise spend their time making wine and tchotchkes.

We don't know yet. There may be 4-5 extras that we'll sell on the store or AbeBooks. But at least initially, they will be done in very small numbers. By which I mean less than 20.

Subscribed, no problems encountered. Deluxe is perfect for my needs, and some day for my heirs or assignees.

I loved the Missionaries!

This story is skillfully constructed. The tone is consistent and builds steadily to climax that I didn’t quite predict. That’s good because there’s nothing worse then an ending you saw coming all along.

There is an organic mixture of poetic description that paints a vivid and flourishing portrait of life on Elephant Island, that is ably counterbalanced by it’s larger then life characters…as well some lower then life characters. In my time I’ve known people like all of them. If you’ve lived a quiet life, allow me to assure you, these are all real people.

The work is consistently toned and beautifully written with prose that made me remember what a sweltering island jungle smelled like after an afternoon storm.

Can you repeat what Owen Stanley said when told THE MISSIONARIES would be the first book to be delivered by the Castalia Deluxe Book Club?

Any idea of timeframe yet for the deadline to sign-up?

The end of the month. We'll take the subscription private on even months, unless we can figure out a better way to prevent people from getting on off-months schedules.

Blogger Ultrahardcore November 20, 2019 3:50 PM

This seems like a very good deal for any dedicated reader/collector. I'm sad to say I can't afford it at the moment. One time crowd funding projects are more my speed. Really cool service though I'm excited to see which books are released in the coming months.

Shipping included or extra? (I need to know how big a bouquet I'm going to have to buy my wife).

Blogger Unknown November 20, 2019 4:21 PM

Signed up and stoked!

Blogger VD November 20, 2019 4:39 PM

As always, Vox's projects are always much higher value than they cost.

@11 VD

So if I understand correctly, I could sign up in a few months (Jan/Mar) if I can't sign up now?

Blogger VD November 20, 2019 5:49 PM

Yes, although the book will be different.

Blogger Head Trauma November 20, 2019 6:44 PM

In and pumped up.

Your work in bringing this to fruition are greatly appreciated

Blogger Beardy Bear November 20, 2019 6:49 PM

Less than ~20 will exist? How could I not?

Blogger Bialar November 20, 2019 7:30 PM

Super excited for this, signed up. Thank you Vox and everyone on the Castalia team.

Blogger VD November 20, 2019 8:45 PM

Less than ~20 will exist?

That's not a final number. We'll make a final determination once we see how many subscribers there are. But there will be a lot less than the 1500 or whatever that are usually considered an Easton or Folio Society limited edition.

Blogger LR27 November 20, 2019 8:56 PM

Will the library editions of Throne of Bones be signed by the Darklord in the blood of his enemies? (Or just signed is fine if it’s cost prohibitive)

Blogger FUBARwest November 20, 2019 9:25 PM

125/m is lower than I thought it would be for the library editions. Hopefully next year I'll be able to upgrade, as is already signed up for the Deluxe. Keep fighting the fight Vox & crew!

Blogger Azimus November 21, 2019 12:25 AM

Thats a lot of cannoli for no dust jacket, SDL... sheesh I would think you would class it up with a little protection...

Blogger teslawasframed November 21, 2019 1:16 AM

Seconded.

Blogger VD November 21, 2019 6:22 AM

A dust jacket on a leather bound book? What sort of unlettered peasant who has never entered a library are you?

Blogger LR27 November 21, 2019 11:01 AM

Vox, will you be signing the library copies of your own books? I assume you are the type that does not sign books except in rare circumstances

Blogger VD November 21, 2019 11:52 AM

Vox, will you be signing the library copies of your own books?

I think we can probably arrange for that.

Blogger Azimus November 21, 2019 1:24 PM

@VD:
I'm just trying to help you build your brand. A publisher that offers leather books? Its been done for thousands of years. Now add a sleek, sexy dustjacket? You're gonna turn some heads.

All joking aside, please to forgive my attempted quip....

Blogger JG November 21, 2019 4:00 PM

I'm in. I had to arm wrestle my credit card provider into submission, but got it done.
