OK Boomer

A statistical rebuttal of the Boomer perspective:
Faced with higher property prices and piles of student debt, Americans are getting older and older before they buy a home. The median age of first-time home buyers has increased to 33, the oldest in records dating back to 1981, according to a National Association of Realtors report released Friday. The median age of all buyers also hit a fresh record, 47, increasing for a third straight year — and well above the median age of 31 in 1981.... As buyers' ages have increased, so have their incomes. The typical income of purchasers rose to $93,200 in 2018 as a lack of affordable options squeezed lower-income potential buyers out of the market.
If those Millennials weren't so lazy, they'd make that $93k per year right out of college, which they should have worked their way through, right? But hey, it's nothing that importing 100 million more low-income third worlders can't cure....

Debt, interest rates, unfunded liabilities, pension funds with no income and at the insane peek of stock market...
Will the big one hit at last?

Boomer story time!

When my Dad was sick and I was handing out candy for him on Halloween, I decided I had enough of the effing 19-year-old punks who didn't dress up and demanded more candy after being generous with at least 3 pieces of premium candy per person. (Another story for another day.) So I decided I wasn't going to do it anymore.

His (boomer) response? "They don't have anything and they'll slash our tires!"

My response: "You know that's the textbook definition of "extortion"...right? If we don't give them candy, they'll cause us harm?"

No response other than a flustered look...you know, because I was right.

I love him and miss him (he died last year) but there's no getting over the boomer mindset that infects his generation. It stuns me into silence sometimes.

My ultimate act of Gen X revenge was to buy a house in 2014 that was the estate of a dead 82 year old widowed grandma for less than half of what houses in the area sold for. Said house only cost me 2x what my annual take home was at the time, and I put 40% down.

My Navy retirement covers all my household bills, and upon graduating I will be working for play money, paying off my mortgage in a few years, and be debt free right after I turn 50.

Those of you who want to buy, pick off the houses being sold by the estates of dead boomers who died alone; you will probably be able to make offers insultingly low and get their house for a steal.

Blogger sammibandit November 08, 2019 1:56 PM

OK, boomer.

Blogger Seeingsights November 08, 2019 1:57 PM

The point is correct: Boomers had advantages simply due to the luck of their birth.
They could get a good job if they simply were willing to get up in the morning.
Good housing and a good college education were affordable.
Then contributed to disfunction by getting abortions, divorces, and kids out of wedlock.
And they have the gall to critize younger generations --who did not have the same advantages--for not obtaining what they obtained. Thus the jibe, OK Boomer.

Pretty much impossible in some places. I love in a city of roughly four million people, where the average house price is $1,000,000. Very few families are making $300,000 annually, so mortgage stress is considered totally normal here.

They weren't called the "Me" generation for nothing. Boomers are observably very high in the narcissism personality trait. That is not the same thing as the personality disorder; the Dark Triad is not a dysfunction. At the same time, there are of course some similarities between the uncommon disorder and the universal trait, and so it is perfectly normal for a boomer to treat disagreement as an insult and dismiss it out of hand.

That is where rhetoric comes in, basically just making it easier for them to change their own minds.

Now that I think about it, their character may have been set by the Great Depression/WWII generation's dogmatism for what got them through those crises. And then everything changed, so new modes needed to be explored.

But even if we empathize with how they became the way they are, we can still criticize them for their new false dogmas, and despise them for their ill actions.

If a family were like the American "nation," then it would pick up a random vibrant from the street to do the chores when Junior is rebelling and not doing them like he's told. Only, Vibrant New Juniors (yes, plural) would be given Junior's room, toys, share of parents' inheritance, social circle, school placement, etc. while Junior is kicked out and simply told to make something of himself.

Then, Mom and Dad will blame Junior if/when he succumbs to substance abuse.

Blogger Azimus November 08, 2019 3:06 PM

Its clear that the government is intentionally over-inflating the value of housing. It means that construction jobs pay well (when they don't hire illegals for cash), but it also means that homes are untenable except under extreme leverage situations, AND it bleeds into the farming industry, where farmers are the poorest millionaires you'll ever meet - so many of them cash out to the big corporate farms - and of course most of them are boomers at this time.

Blogger SciVo November 08, 2019 3:17 PM

Azimus wrote:Its clear that the government is intentionally over-inflating the value of housing.

It all goes back to the banksters. When they say "too big to fail," they mean "too big to be allowed to fail. And they've monetized all the real estate, so -- just like Japan -- they cannot permit a decline in price back to value.

Blogger Doktor Jeep November 08, 2019 3:22 PM

So here in Florida there are commercial ads on the radio that actually start with something like this: "Are you a baby boomer who's getting tired of rising taxes?"
Every time I hear that I remember how it was boomers who set up this system of constantly rising taxes. All because of constantly rising immigration, constantly rising debt, and constantly rising gibs.
Now they don't want to pay their fair share. Which was never fair for everybody else.
Part of why God has us on an inevitable course toward s redemption through fire is because a lot of boomers deserve to burn.

Sooner or later, everyone pays the piper. Even Boomers.

That generation has spent their lives denying the gods of the copybook headings. Their time has come and gone, though they are emotionally incapable of facing it.

Millenials want what the Boomers had, but haven't accepted that they aren't going to get it (me too! Generation).

Gen X is generally too focused on individualism (hey, it's how we survived the Boomers), but is learning and is far more focused on family, church and community than Boomers ever were.

Gen Z is learning. What they will do remains to be seen.

Blogger swiftfoxmark2 November 08, 2019 4:00 PM

Much was given to the Boomers but their parents demanded much in return. The Boomer's future was devoured by their parents and instead of looking to make the sacrifice so their own children wouldn't go through that, they decided to kick the can.

Now the Millennials will suffer the consequences of the Boomers' inaction. The Boomers will probably be mostly dead by the time of the great economic contraction that we now face, in large part to the massive Ponzi scheme that is Usury.

Were HIS parents boomers, who apparently raised his parents to be crap parents? How about their parents? How far back must we go to find the basis of dysfunction -- or is it all on the boomers because you hate them?

Not trying to convince anyone because I know it's not possible, and to a certain degree I can understand your hatred. {shrug} I hate MY parent's generation for destroying the world for MY generation, but I can see THROUGH them to THEIR parents' generation; just as fucked up as any other generation.

But, carry on, spew your hatred, if it helps you feel better. To paraphrase what Vox said last night: don't hate the jews, go THROUGH them to hate Satan; they -- not all of them -- are merely Satan's agents. My feeling is: I viscerally hate the jews BECAUSE so many of them were and ARE Satan's agents; but I always take Vox's words under deep consideration... so who knows? Maybe, some day, *I* will forgive them for their destruction, right about the time you Xers and Mils forgive us boomers for our destruction.

At least ours was not intended to destroy our nation... I was going to write "not designed and intended" -- but it WAS designed; just NOT BY US!

I never understood boomer hate online until I saw how they defended themselves when criticized, almost always in horrid and delusional ways. When it comes to generational criticism there's no one more thin skinned and childish than boomers, who cares if someone shits on your generation? It has no bearing on your life and you are you not the entirety of your generation and you can't defend the honor of anything with desperate screeching.

For their reactions alone boomers should be made fun of any time the opportunity comes up, if you can't take a joke or criticism you deserve the rage you feel when someone takes you down a peg. Get over yourself.

The thing is, Boomers are the first group in history to define an identity based completely on age. Granted that was largely the work of (((marketeers and other frauds))). Nonetheless, its the idea that we were specifically a special generation, with nothing to learn from our ancestors, and no responsibility to our descendants, that really pisses off the people who should have been the recipients of some part of the prosperity that Boomers were handed. Instead our generation just drank, smoked, fucked and mostly pissed it all away chasing the next emotional high.

"And of your infliction," cried Elizabeth with energy. "You have reduced him to his present state of poverty--comparative poverty. You have withheld the advantages which you must know to have been designed for him. You have deprived the best years of his life of that independence which was no less his due than his desert. You have done all this! And yet you can treat the mention of his misfortune with contempt and ridicule."

Japanese Boomers
An interesting analysis would be to compare the modern-day homogenous Japanese Boomers to their Western equivalents. I'd guess a lot of Japanese made a lot of mistaken long-term value judgments that were based on a currency that wasn't a very good reflection of the objective reality. Like trying to shoot a basketball into a hoop while looking through the bottom of a glass bottle. Anecdotally I feel the Japanese are doing pretty good given their demographic decline. Working longer, expecting less in public services, living meagerly, moving in with family to save money, and (unfortunately) getting more women into the workforce. Not ideal, but nothing ever is. Contrast this with The Boomers. To me, the major variable is genetic homogeneity. The USA probably required a mostly English population - once Irish, Germans, European Jews, Italians and Greeks were settled, perhaps the problems we face, were baked in the cake? TOther important variables might be our history of slavery and giving the gentler race the franchise.

Blogger Damelon Brinn November 08, 2019 7:01 PM

This is absolutely and manifestly untrue.

Yes, it's exactly the opposite of the truth. We Gen-Xers didn't get the gay sex indoctrination in school. Sex-ed then was focused on avoiding pregnancy and disease. It wasn't a good thing, but it seems quaint by comparison to what they're doing today. They didn't pull in perversions until the Boomers took over and started sending their Millennial kids to school. Clinton's surgeon general wanted schools to teach kids to masturbate each other as an alternative to sex (makes you wonder if she ever had any), and it was downhill fast from there.

His father was an abusive arse. As I understand. I never spoke to my grandfather because they hated one another. And, I am happy my father never hit me once. As I understand, from my uncles, the beatings he took would have sent their father to prison in today's world. So, I will credit The Boomers here, and they do deserve credit in breaking that cycle.
As per the Japanese Boomer's post, I do wonder at the underlying causes. I've even wondered if the effects of winning WWII changed the expression of their DNA epigenetically.
That said, I don't feel hate for my father. My mother is a Boomer, I don't hate her either - and her abusive childhood was worse than my fathers.

I don't 'hate' Boomers. I don't know if it is good or bad, but I was raised by my mother to try not to say I "hated" a particular person. But instead, I should focus on and could hate their actions. That lesson did stick with me. So, in general, I hate their choices, their behaviors, and despise the resultant effects we're living in. I hate we lost Western Civilization and have to endure our current post-Western culture (hopefully to create something better when it fails).

As a general statement, F*ck The Boomers, means I hate the choices they made and, like me, they have to take responsibility for their choices (which would go a long way to making amends with us GenXers) and do something in these last of their years to fix the problems they created.

Do that, and I for one will happily retract my sentiment. But, this isn't likely going to happen. I lived through The Boomer Epoch. I'm convinced that their (generalizing here, not individualizing) Narrisism and pride hath cometh before The Fall. And Fall it will be.

Oh how the boomers wailed and moaned when Princess Di (((died))) in the most ostentatious display of choreographed spleen venting the Anglo world has ever seen. It went on for weeks at the beginning of the school year. Full grown adults breaking down not in private like their mothers died. The altars, niches, candlelit vigils could be called religious if it weren't for the outright materialism of the melodrama. But it's other generations who virtue signal, right?

Then the boomers threw their rattles from the pram when QE did not break protocol by lowering the flag. And QE was still treated like a monster after she did. What banshees! The simultaneous sentimentality and brutality occupying the same mind, to paraphrase Dalrymple, is quintessentially boomer.

There's zero question that Millennials and Gen Z got a shit deal from their elders. Even if a Boomer couldn't see that 20 years ago it's undeniable now. Boomer advice on how to cope and prosper rings hollow when they don't even acknowledge the problems.

Still there's a lot of whining from Millennials about how bad things are and that accomplishes nothing. Work hard, pray for success, and take some calculated risks.

And don't be the sucker who pays the minimum balance on a huge credit card debt for years, making the bankers rich. (Also don't be the deadbeat who borrows money from friends and neighbors and never pays it back.) If you don't own anything you can probably walk away and your debtors have no effective recourse. When debt collectors call, try to make them cry or at least blush. Shills like Dave Ramsey won't tell you this.

Maybe later in life you bought a Sig P-series, like my friend’s Boomer dad did when he saw how well mine worked...wouldn’t do for a Gen-X’er like myself have a better weapon than UAW-retired royalty, after all.

I seldom talk or write about my generation, save when folk are bagging on it.

In the main, I agree with those bagging on the Boomers. For the most part, it is well deserved. John Lennon (who was NOT a Boomer, by the bye), had that generation pegged when he sang, "...Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV/
And you think you're so clever and classless and free/
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see."

For my part, I have attempted to follow the counsel of Balthazar Gracian, in his 'Art of Worldly Wisdom', who wrote: "Avoid the faults of your nation."

And, for my part, I have tried to avoid advice to younger generations. I know well what my coevals have done with the benefits they have received. Their epitaph will most likely be the bumper sticker on a wrecked recreational vehicle: "We are spending our childrens' inheritance."

For my part, I lived in a middle-class family who, in turn, lived in what became one of the richest of Southern California cities. You know, one of those whose zip code got turned into the title of a TV series on network TV.

I saw too many of my generation piss their inheritance away on Club Med, fancy cars, and, in one instance, a columbarium in the mausoleum underneath the big cathedral that Cardinal Roger Mahony wasted HIS money on.

They're all dead, now, or dying in poverty.

Me, after my family took care of my mother and father, and made sure they were able to die at home, me and my brother used our inheritance to buy a combined dwelling and rental properties that allow us to live rent-, utilities- and food- free. And we have the pleasure of knowing that that property will pass to my brother's children.

And I know what the response is likely to be from the assembled multitudes here.

But that's mister Boomer to you.

Since you asked, NONE of the people to whom this phrase was attributed (e.g. Jack Weinberg, Jerry Rubin, Abby Hoffman, etc.) Were boomers. Like the rest of the people who were actually in control of the government (and the people who elected them) when the execrable immigration act of 1965 was enacted, were all of previous generations.

Blogger Bernard Brandt November 08, 2019 9:57 PM

Sorry, Nate @115, but NIMBY in LaLa Land, back in the late 60s, long predates either when I, or most of my generation, could vote. Try reading this, for example:

https://www.laweekly.com/a-comprehensive-guide-to-every-kind-of-nimby-in-los-angeles

Basically, that 'slow-growth' movement way back then reduced LA's housing capacity from 10 million in 1960 to 4.3 million as of now.

Oh, and as for that 'bubble' you are talking about, yeh, it will probably hit, and it will probably reduce housing values where I live by about $100K or so for a few weeks to months.

But let me let you in on a little secret. It's called the 'Law of Supply and Demand'. It indicates that when there is a limited supply, but an increased demand, the price for that value somehow tends to increase. God only knows why people still want to come to LaLa land. But they do. And, when there is only a limited supply of housing, and an increasing number of those who wish to live here, then...

True, NateM: it isn't. By the time that the Dems have managed well and truly to turn the Golden State into Shiteholestan, the property that I and my brother have bought will still have sufficient value, because of said retards, to allow us to sell it at a healthy profit, and go elsewhere.

They abandoned their families (no fault divorce)
They murdered their children (no fault abortion)

Then as now hypergamous females filed the vast, vast majority of divorce papers. Keep in mind these females were parented in a time when the contraceptive pill was unleashed upon society by Greatest Generation fueling The Sexual Revolution. Consequence-free sex was available to 14 year old little darling and oh by the way that happened because their Greatest Generation Moms signed for those pills.
No surprise those girls "parented" into having "consequence-free" sex when they forgot to take those pills expected, demanded "consequence-free" pregnancies. The Greatest Generation gave the little dears what they wanted Roe v Wade in 1973 a year when no Boomers controlled no societal levers of power.
Obviously no Boomer male ever had even one abortion.
Hypergamous Boomer females filed for "consequence-free" divorces provided by Greatest Generation and paid for by Boomer males.

If you simply MUST have a generational enemy then at least KNOW your enemies.

Vox has stated his opinion that Boomer males made whores of Boomer females. I never saw it that way.
Boomer females had more freedom to make more decisions than at any prior time.
They often did not choose wisely. But the power of the state (Greatest

@86 "there's no one more thin skinned and childish than boomers, who cares if someone shits on your generation?"

Ah, but it's not boomers making multiple 100-comment threads saying how bad the other gens are. It's your generations doing a pretty good slash-and-burn of the boomers. So, thin-skinned maybe goes two ways?

And yes, some of us, probably many of us, deserve blame for NOT seeing through our brainwashing to the brainwashers till it was WAY too late! For not understanding through our brainwashing that our "go with the flow" -- i.e., live with and participate in the (((culture))) around us -- was destroying our nation and civilization. I was almost to my thirties, after six years active Navy, before I finally realized that negroes were NOT "just like us but for skin color"! But since there were only three of them in my entire school system when I was there - HOW was I to see through the brainwashing? And another ten years before I really understood about (((Satan's agents))).

When do y'all start looking PAST boomers to the actual enemy? Or does 'looking past' only apply to jews? And maybe muzzies? Oh, and dot-indians? And Chinese? The mexies are maybe losing their "immunity" because they have come farthest after jews in their visible destruction. Or do you y'all just whack boomers and riverdance on their graves as you push them into the dirt and ignore the true enemy and his agents?

Blogger The Lab Manager November 09, 2019 8:13 AM

So any articles yet from Boomers about how 80 is the new 70? Or is it 90 the new 80?

Blogger rumpole5 November 09, 2019 8:15 AM

I have long been of the opinion that Boomers were a rather sorry generation and many are and will suffer for their past imprudent lifestyles. My problem with these Boomer rants is that the analysis is often based on false facts. Blaming Boomers for problems that Boomers did not cause (eg. Nixon devaluing the dollar by dropping the gold standard, or Nixon promoting the term "hispanic", or Nixon promoting the EPA, or 1968 era politicos degrading the immigration laws). If you youngsters don't get the correct facts you will never get the correct solutions. Time to come out of mommy's basement. Mommy may have been at fault for over shielding you from the stark facts of life, but blaming her for all of your problems will not get you where you want to go.

@97 "There's zero question that Millennials and Gen Z got a shit deal from their elders. Even if a Boomer couldn't see that 20 years ago it's undeniable now. Boomer advice on how to cope and prosper rings hollow when they don't even acknowledge the problems."

What advice CAN we give on how to cope and prosper -- when we never HAD to cope and prosper! Is that not like saying: if you're drowning in a river, ask someone who has never even been in a bathtub how to survive!

Blogger Damelon Brinn November 09, 2019 8:23 AM

Say there's a boy on the playground who breaks the toys, spoils the games, and generally ruins everyone's fun. You find out that if you call him Sally he goes into a rage, yelling and spitting at everyone until he soils himself. It's great fun, so you do it once or twice a week.

The fact that his name isn't really Sally is irrelevant.

Blogger Damelon Brinn November 09, 2019 8:23 AM

Don't worry, no one's asking Boomers for advice.

Blogger JG November 09, 2019 8:36 AM

I get the Boomer hate, really I do. The seeds of the destruction of the west were sown before the Boomers showed up to really fuck it up. Namely:

* Creation of the Federal Reserve in 1913
* Change from tariffs to income tax in 1916
* Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1965
* Collapse of Bretton Woods monetary system in 1971

The Boomers come along, reject Christ, embrace socialist policies and nihilism, and here we are.

Hard times will make good men, once again.

***eserve blame for NOT seeing through our brainwashing to the brainwashers till it was WAY too late**

It's more that they won't see through it EVER. They just build higher gates in their gated communities and cover their ears and hum Beatles tunes while the flames encircle them.

Every generation is bound by dicgerent conditions.
You would all have reacted in much the same way as the boomers.
Now you sit there like a bunch of 12 year olds hating your parents as though they conspited to screw you.
Exactly like the lefties you see a boogie man as your oppressor in the Marxist class struggle .

When all the Boomers are dead, Avalanche, as Vox has stated before. Then, the GenX'ers and Millennial, and post-Millennials can lead this country to the utopia they so strive for. Whatever that is.

You go, AOC, with your squeaky-ass voice.

Blogger Ominous Cowherd November 09, 2019 1:20 PM

I think a lot of the Boomer hate stems from the fact that the Boomers uniquely benefitted from the ongoing pozzing of America, embraced and extended the poz, then told their posterity - often their own children - ``sucks to be you, losers.''

All that, and poking Boomers yields a good tantrum, every time.

Blogger Ariadne Umbrella November 09, 2019 2:41 PM

dear blessed boomers who got handed the greatest heft in a democracy- votes- and you are whining that you didn't pass hart- cellar? how's about, you didn't vote to rescind hart- cellar, and you blamed the F out of the generations next that suffer from the effects. you didn't think to use your power to protect your children, in any way.

and now you are calling the generation that is preparing to deal with the downstream effects- genzyklon- mean racist, elitest, wicked children and you are, again, not protecting them while they sort out what to do, and how to do it.

I am a parent of GenZyklon kids. In case you were wondering, those precious immigrants winning debate and spelling bee awards? The GenZ kids take the classes, but don't do the public face- it's too expensive- and they still need time for team efforts and good grades in the classes that they think are important. They work with their friends. They have icons up in their rooms, even if they aren't showing up at orthodox churches. They work with their hands, they take community college, they choose majors based on expected pay at the end. They plan for jobs with no diversity.

And Boomers call them names, every single day. They are preparing to solve the problems the Boomers would not solve.

Blogger Snidely Whiplash November 09, 2019 2:55 PM

If you see the words "Ok, Boomer" and it angers you, THAT'S BECAUSE YOU'RE THE PROBLEM.
If you don't like it, understand that it's the identification as "Boomer" that makes you culpable.

**You would all have reacted in much the same way as the boomers. **

For me it's not so much about what they allowed as, you are right, hindsight is 20/20 and we don't know what we don't know.

It's about HOW THEY ARE REACTING NOW when it's clear they've destroyed the country. No repentance, no action to reverse it, no bravery--just cowardice, fear and protecting their stuff and hoping they run out the clock until the POC hordes and their leftist puppet masters come for it.

That is what is despicable.
