This isn't how it was supposed to go

Democrats are quite literally losing Democrats due to the impeachment charade:
Anti-impeachment Democratic Rep. Jeff Van Drew of New York has confirmed that he will switch parties and become a Republican, following a lengthy meeting with President Trump, according to Politico. Van Drew is one of two Democrats who voted 'no' on opening the impeachment inquiry in the first place, and has been a vocal opponent of the effort, according to the report.
I think we can start using the "debacle" word to describe it about now. If they're actually losing elected officials over this, imagine what is happening in the electorate.

A last ditch effort with no traction. They thought it would empower their elections in 2020, ha!

And from New Jersey, no less. My wife's family used to live in southern Jersey, before taxes drove them out. Property taxes on a $200k family house were $700/mo.

of New York

wtf? He graduated from Rutgers, operated his own dental practice in Jersey for 30 years, was a NJ state senator for 2 terms, was a mayor twice in Cape May County, won NJ's 2nd Congressional district last year campaigning on the pledge to oppose Pelosi's bid to become Speaker of the House. Which he did.

ZeroHedge screwed up... he's from NJ.

I wonder what he got? Something substantial or just immunity from prosecution?

I was thinking a Pyrrhic Victory since it cheers their useful lunatics but debacle probably is a better fit.

@9, immunity from prosecution would be something substantial.

He’s a pro gun (dem or was) in a district that TGE carried in 2016. He will be a better republican than the neverTrumper the pathetic NJ GOP was going to run.

Blogger Dan in Georgia December 15, 2019 12:19 AM

Anyone wondering, I’m originally from NJ. Been in Georgia since the 90s

He’s a freshman. He just won his seat in 2018. I hear he’s a good guy.

Blogger Careless Whisper December 15, 2019 1:05 AM

Hear hear, only New Jerseyans know how thoroughly comped the NJGOP is. If we could somehow lose the party leadership bottleneck, we'd be far redder.

That is the $64K question. I suspect only Pelosi knows for sure.

Blogger Peter December 15, 2019 3:57 AM

The democrats really had no choice here. If Trump suceeded in muddying water on biden they would have been in bad shape; now any thing like that comes out between now and electon for any Democrat and they can point to it being false, whether it is or not. They also needed something to stir up the base which this certainly has. The democratic win requires numbers. A republican win requires democratic and independents to stay home. Pelosi may be many things but dumb is not one of them so dont under estimate your enemy.

We are going down a path here that leads to no good. As long as ecomony continues it will stay low intensity but if we where to hit a recession, it will get hotter faster. And since the recent boom is mostly build on debt,we all know that it will eventually stop.

The truth is probably that theres no way to change the trajectory of where this country is going. So pray for best but plan for the worse.

It's not an impeachment vote, it's a moron detector.

Who in their right minds would want to be associated with the party of Obama? Open borders, state intrusion, rule by decree, pushing pedophilia etc etc. There's no way a leftist can squirm their way out of this association.

Since when have the Dem's needed an excuse to lie? Biden's multiple cases of plagiarism, Fauxahontas/Lieawatha's history, and Buttplugs continual lies about Christianity are all examples.

Blogger ThatWouldBeTelling December 15, 2019 8:22 AM

@22 bodenlose Schweinerei:

"It's not an impeachment vote, it's a moron detector."

"Point deer, make horse"

It's also a loyalty test. Pelosi is some combination of very dumb, and being forced by her caucus to let this game play out using some *very* incompetent and unphotogenic pathological liars like Schiff and Nadler.

Look for the meme of the impeachment announcement labeling each clown as being either from California or New York, summing it up as "Why we have the Electoral College." The House members really pushing this are in safe seats firmly in the Left's bubble (probably, the U.K. election Labour party debacle should give them pause), it's indeed a test for the rest of the caucus that one way or another should thin it out like the Obamacare votes did.

I did not expect outright defections, that's the hardest evidence you'll get short of elections of how much of a debacle it's become.

Pelosi, like Biden, has been having a lot of senior moments lately. Don't expect it to get better.

It is also hubris. If this was any other R president it might have worked. They still think the apparatchik, legacy MSM has t the same effect it did 20 years ago and that they wont get callout on the BS. That is a reason they plowed forward after trump released the transcript. They are used to getting their way.

Blogger Dan in Georgia December 15, 2019 11:22 AM

This is the beginning of the ejection of white democrats from congress. Notice Van Drew is not a member of the tribe. He ran on a platform of opposing Pelosi, so he has never been welcome there. I welcome him to the GOP. I hear he's a good guy.

Blogger KPKinSunnyPhiladelphia December 15, 2019 3:18 PM

Ah, polling. It's the weakest of the statistical sub disciplines.

Trump got 63 million votes last time. What's the likelihood of him losing ANY of those 63 million voters? Next to zero.

Meanwhile, how many voters thought,

"You know, Trump is just this crazy casino owner reality TV star, and, while Hilary is loathsome, she is a known quantity, and Trump may turn out to be a complete train wreck (so I will sit this one out or Vote D).

How many voters do you think had this, admittedly understandable, attitude? 2 million? 3 Million? More?

And how are they going to vote this time given the GE's accomplishments?

The question answers itself.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin and Ohio are purging voter roles (lots of "unreachable" voters, apparently, in Milwaukee).

Trumpslide, baby!! Trumpslide!!

Interesting. Good analysis. Some people seem so irrational that I wonder what their reasoning is, but I can't partition a sandbox in my mind to emulate them, because it's all so vile. Other times it's not as bad, and I put forth a hypothesis, like this:
Republicans look for someone who will fight for them. The Dems have gone so far over to the amoral dark side that maybe they simply want someone to lie and cheat for them. Coming soon from a leftist candidate: " I'm your PRAGMATIC candidate! I'll do WHATEVER IT TAKES to secure equality and diversity."
