Mailvox: how little they learn

Apparently it is very difficult for some to resist the sweet siren song of media attention:
I know you don't care about internet personalities but this one seemed too on-point not to mention.

JF Gariepy has agreed to do an interview with Canadian media re: nationalism He has agreed to this despite numerous warnings from his fans who have pointed out the many smear jobs with which you are familiar.

Moreover, he believes he will use his great intellect and clever wording to prevent the possibility of negative framing — and thus will not be recording the interview himself because "it's not what a man would do".

Just thought you might be amused at how little people learn.
I am amused indeed, in part because I turned down no fewer than three separate requests for interviews and media appearances today. This interview should end about as well for JFG as his evolution debate with me.

And, just in case it still hasn't registered with everyone here, I repeat: don't talk to the media!

The probability of JF's interview with the Canadian media going as well as the evolution debate is infinitesimal.

what a man does do, apparently, is screw mentally retarded chicks ... after he got three divorces.

seriously, if the "white ethnostate" is going to include Creepy Gariepy, i don't think i want to join.

Blogger Uncompliant January 13, 2020 8:12 PM

way OT and not to thread-jack, but ... this goes with the post from awhile ago about how vast the deep state might be and why they might be getting panicky and such.

Example/model of how the police state might be as vast as millions upon millions of Americans -- how it might be so vast as to shock us non-members of the surveillance state. Article about two meth-towns -- maybe? -- in Montana and how the cul-d'sac neighborhoods could be covertly watched easily -- are/were being watched -- and how you might be able to tell mathematically.

In the comments is a link to a PDF for archiving.

"It's not what a man would do"

Same reason old No-Balls Johnson never wore a cup in the NHL.

Why the need to associate manliness with stupidity? I get "don't kick a man when he's down," but " let a man kick you as often as he wants, offering zero resistance" is not a common saying for a reason.

"he will use his great intellect and clever wording"

To hypnotize his interlocutor? And the editor? And everyone else involved on their end?

How is it possible there are people who don't know they can make you say anything. Even if they have to speak over a crude freezeframe, like that sexual harassment episode of the Simpsons.

Blogger Ominous Cowherd January 13, 2020 8:19 PM

Recording the interview, to set the record straight? Stupid.
Not recording the interview? Far stupider.
Giving an interview to the enemy? Stupidest of all.

His "great intellect" didn't prevent him from dating a potato.

My father isn't too versed in basic French and once read a port-a-potty company named "Oui Oui" as ow-ee ow-ee.
The fallout of JF's impending interview brought this to mind.

Blogger Haus frau January 13, 2020 8:30 PM

Didn't "date" a woman with Down's syndrome? This could be the best of train wrecks.

I witnessed my grandfather give a media interview once, to an attractive young reportress. As they often are. He was quoted accurately in the final published version.

This was at a ceremony put on by French authorities of one kind or another, honoring veterans of D-Day. Meaning they had proper motivation to be accurate, I guess. That, or grandpa gave them what they needed.

Let's call that the I Defeated Hitler pass. No one's handing those out anymore.

On the other hand, I was once quoted correctly but in a sense wrongly. This because I filled out a written questionnaire and left one of the answers incomplete, intending to go back and finish. Which I never did.

The result was a joke more clever than the one I half-finished. Which I suppose I should make me happy. However, I'd prefer to fail on my own.

Blogger J Van Stry January 13, 2020 8:39 PM

A friend of mine was once interviewed for a local TV station, years ago. They edited his responses and changed several of the questions when they played it on TV.
I mean, who are you going to believe? The TV Station with everything on tape, or just some guy out in the country?

After that we all started to tape our interviews, though we only did interviews when we were put in a position where we had no choice. When they see you're taping stuff, they tend to be a lot more 'honest'. What's funny is that the reporters can't understand why nobody likes them. I don't think most of them even realize how their interview is going to be butchered by the editors until they get back to the station. They're just not that bright.

And never ever believe them when they say 'this is off camera'. Those mic's are always live and recording, and if there are two cameras, you can be guaranteed that the one off in the distance is zoomed in and filming (seen it done).

The only time I'll appear on TV now is to sell a book. And only if it's live.

This, by far, is one of the most fascinating items at Anonymous Conservative. He has several of these.

Basically, it's a primer on identifying surveillance that shows up as it tracks a Google Maps car. In this case, it's a giant meth operation that is using surveillance to protect itself.

Admittedly a small sample size, but from what I've heard of that sorry midwit, it'll be like bringing a penlight to a gunfight.

Man I hope he doesn't do it.

The media NEED to talk to JF and those they oppose precisely in order to smear and attack them.

They are showing you THEIR weakness-- they have no way to co-opt your message UNLESS then ensconce themselves with you.

Reject them.

It infuriates them.

Silly peabrains, not recording is a cunning plan to complain about the interviewing being "butchered" while not having to provide any evidence to prove it.

There's also the added benefit of there not being an independent record to demonstrate that he is, in fact, the slopeheaded mouthbreather the inevitable "hatchet job" will present. Tactics, man, TAC-TICS.

What's got the media on some "project" and making approaches in a surge apparently may be due to Richard Spencer appearing on Infowars and not coming off as a complete Turbo Hitler....though I don't think he wins over those of us who still judge him and his failures logically.

Just stop. That isn't even temporally possible. No one, literally NO ONE, gives a damn about Richard Spencer at this point.

He's only on Infowars now because the mainstream media has lost interest in him too. He's not even a useful punching bag anymore.

Blogger SemiSpook37 January 14, 2020 9:36 AM

Contrast this with Black Pigeon Speaks. Mentioned on his Twitter feed that a "freelancer" from CBS wanted to interview him, and that he was considering it.

Then he posted his response kindly telling said freelancer where they could go.

Blogger Tars Tarkas January 14, 2020 10:08 AM

Even if JF manages to use his superior intellect and verbal kung-fu to not give the necessary blunder to make him look crazy, they just won't use it.

At best you appear neutral but will be framed as literally Hitler. If JF manages to say nothing that can be reframed and they don't just can the interview, they will sandwich his name between David Duke and Dylan Roof. The subsequent pointing and screeching draws new attention to his channel and YT's not doing enough to combat hate speech on their platform. All while making money doing it.
He might as well just become a life-time paid member of whatever media outlet is doing the hit-piece.

Media ethics:

Twist your words,
Edit your words,
Put words in your mouth,
Make Sh_t up and claim you said.

Bottom line you can never be smart enough to stop them from making sh_t up and claiming you said, especially when you don't bother to record it yourself.

In order for that to be a deliberate tactic, JFG would have to believe that he is such a toxic waste dump that no lie the reporter could make up would be worse than what he's actually going to say.

That might well be true, but it's almost impossible that he would believe it, true or not.

Blogger Nate73 January 14, 2020 2:01 PM

@45: I was just going to say that! "Illusion of Truth" - definitely a must-watch episode of B5 even for non-fans. I figured after seeing that B5 episode as a kid that's how the soviet media must operate. The episode has most of the tactics spelled out by Vox in the wired case:

*Offering to tell "your side of the story"
*Editing footage to make you sound like hitler

Just search "Illusion of Truth" on youtube. Good post-episode commentary here:

I don't know if this was done in the Wired hit piece but one of the most chilling parts of the episode was when they brought on the Dean of Harvard Medical School to talk about how Sheridan had to be mentally ill with a made-up disease to be taking his actions. What are the odds this Canadian show brings on a medical doctor to diagnose JF with severe paranoid schizophrenia?
