Trump 5x more trusted than Hollywood

The God-Emperor continues to crush his enemies:
Although actors and actresses garner endless media coverage — and spend a lot of time telling all of us how they feel about President Trump — Americans don’t trust them.

According to a new poll released Tuesday by Morning Consult, just 4% of Americans trust Hollywood. That’s lower than the number that trust Wall Street (5%) and the U.S. government (7%).

The news media comes in at a dismal 8%.

The nationwide survey found that the most trusted brands in America are: the United States Postal Service; Amazon, Google, PayPal, The Weather Channel, Chick-fil-A, Hershey, UPS, Cheerios, and M&Ms. It is, however, a contest of mediocrity, as no brands were found to be particularly trustworthy, with these 10 brands garnering stamps of approval from just 34-42% of Americans.

But even above those are “your primary doctor” (50%) and the U.S. military (44%).

Americans also believe “extreme weather warnings (36%) and “teachers” (35%).

But Americans do trust two top celebrities. Tom Hanks came in at 34% and Oprah Winfrey at 27%.

Shockingly (at least to the news media), Trump comes in at 20% on trustability.
I tend to suspect that trust for Hanks and Winfrey is going to disappear very, very rapidly once The Storm begins. There seen to be more Hollywood suicides every day.
Highlander actor Stan Kirsch dies aged 51 in apparent suicide at his Los Angeles home.
Every single time....

I recall that Tom Hanks did a TV commercial for Obama when he was first running for president. The idea in the commercial was that George Washington started the American Revolution, and that Obama when elected would complete it. And then I got this premonition that it was more like bookends. Full circle. Washington set the country up, and Obama would take it down. A foreboding that turned out to be about half true.

As for entertainers generally, when it comes to politics it seems like most of them take stupid pills or something. Maybe the problem is that they get pandered to so much that their reach exceeds their grasp more than it does for most of the rest of us.

4% of Americans trust Hollywood

Holy Moses, who are THESE people.

The nationwide survey found that the most trusted brands in America are: the United States Postal Service; Amazon, Google, PayPal, The Weather Channel [...]

They included the responses garnered from the group home, I see.

Tom Hanks was chosen to be the Jimmy Stewart of his time, and he's an actor so that's what he plays. He doesn't bear the burden of actually being that guy, except insofar as he has to keep his skeletons locked up.

Oprah is an actual person, sort of. But she's already had scandals or near-scandals. And there are probably more to come.

Where does Michelle Obama rank? Her inexplicable popularity continues to plague me. Actual members of my family talk about her like she's a pope. (But, you know, a respectable pope.)

I think one has to only look to Tom Hanks movie, The Circle, to get direct insight on his idea of utopia. He hardly had to act. It was like a fireside chat of dogma, philosophy and tech-religiosity usurped only by Watson's second-nature roleplay in the movie.

Winfrey has the same whimsical, humanistic vision of somehow feeding on the goodness of the universe without every stopping for a second to contemplate the long, dirty saga of human history and the petty, unprovable repetition of "people are (inherently) good"

Exhibit A for why landline polling is skewed. Primary care doctor? Marcus Welby MD. Most trusted man in America? Walter Cronkite.

Blogger Emmanuel January 14, 2020 4:11 PM

They're trying to set Mike up to run against Trump as either President or VP. She's just one of the possibilities the DNC is exploring, along with Hillary again, but the concerted effort to try and gin up support for a run is there.

I'm glad that Hollywood's opinions are not trusted. But their content is watched. That bothers me. Even if, and that's a big IF, even if people recognize the blatant propaganda, they are exposed to so much of it that they become acclimated. Even the presence of bad ideas shifts the Overton window.

If you want to help counteract that, speak up, even if it is just a little. Your courage will inspire others and your message will highlight the subtleties that others have passively absorbed. Little stuff like "What's with all the mixed race couples (or same sex couples) in the commercials? Is that an actual thing or are they just trying to make it a thing?" Without blatantly speaking against it, you draw people's attention to Hollywood's attempts to influence them. Don't be passive.

@ The Cooler

I'll vouch for the USPS. I mailed a bunch of bills with a $12 rebate check mixed in. About an hour after I dropped it in the box, I realized what I did. No biggie, I was stupid and lost $12. Three days later I got an envelope from USPS with "found loose in mail" stamped on it, with the check inside. For such a hassle as it probably is to re-route a document theough their system, I was impressed that some USPS grunt cared enough to ship me back my $12 check. They get my respect for it...

I hate to see dark conspiracies under every rug I look, but I hadn’t thought of Kirsch or Adrian Paul in forever so I first went to Twitter. Read a bunch of tributes to Kirsch but nothing from Paul. He last tweeted Jan 10 about how he’s been working on new stuff, not to ask, but to watch as stuff starts to happen this year. Seemed strange. Dig into him a bit and found the biggest thing he’s been doing lately is this.

How does a second rate tv action star get involved in a world spanning childrens’ charity that miraculously is able to raise millions of dollars? I could ask 100 people if they knew who Adrian Paul was and 95 would think it was that tweaker from Breaking Bad.

I just don’t get it and hate that I think only the worst when it come to Hollywood and kids.

Though I'm surprised Hollywood polled so low, it is a fantastic sign of just how ineffectual endless virtue signalling actually is, despite what acolytes demands the public believe. Hopefully Hollywood continues to double down.

There's a reason ad campaigns are about "impressions". Stimulus-stimulus conditioning works. You don't have to trust; the constantly-paired stimuli convince your neurons, not your mind. You don't actually _believe_ hot women will swarm you if you buy X; but you stop at the X display *just as if you did*.

Blogger HouellebecqGurl January 14, 2020 10:33 PM

I'd assume, but don't know, that this was a landline poll, which explains such high support for your "GP, the post office, the WEATHER channel, weather warnings, and teachers," lololol.
I'm the same age as Vox and many of you here, would any of you, unprompted, randomly pick those as trustworthy?

I'm sitting here right now trying to come up with just one thing, and I'm drawing a blank.
I see religion got a very short shift, but it makes sense, I guess. If pressed, I'd have to say I also trust Hershey's more than the SBC or the Red Pope.

I'm going to go ask my Boomer hubby these questions, I'm curious as to what or who he'd pick, but after being married to me a couple of decades, I've pretty much broken him from most reflexive Boomer reacts.

The other day out of the blue he told me that he truly believes white people are in serious jeopardy and that we're going to have to start separating from everyone else soon, just to survive. This coming from a kumbaya, hold hands with the world, like a 70s Coke commercial guy.
Now he talks about it all the time like we're under an immediate doomsday scenario.
I feel so accomplished.

Blogger braq January 15, 2020 12:39 PM

When will Ronan Farrow ask Tom Hanks about Sarah Ruth Ashcraft?

A few years ago such allegations would've seemed ridiculous, like the "Satanic Panic" in the 80's. But now we know the FBI and CIA covered that up too. Sickening that despite all the *confirmed* filth and abuse in Hollywood so many brainwashed fools still trust or subsidize them.

Blogger God Emperor Memes January 15, 2020 1:48 PM

Those situations are always too contrived and predictable for there to be any real humour in them.
