Schools closed in Northern Italy

Sospesi manifestazioni ed eventi. Scuole e musei e cinema chiusi

To put this into perspective, these actions by the presidents of Lombardy, Piedmont, Emilia Romagna, and the Veneto are the equivalent of about 15 US states shutting down their schools, universities, and all public and private events. Contrary to what some people seem to imagine, this isn't bad news and it doesn't mean that things are worse in Italy than elsewhere, but rather, demonstrates the willingness of the Italian regional governments to put the interests of the Italian people ahead of the global economy.

Meanwhile in the USA and Canada epidemiologists still have the gall to claim that shunning even infected people is bigoted or racist. Props to Italia's governance.

Is it true that Corona-chan was sent by God to test the faithful, destroy globalization, and set right the path of the Boomer by forcing them to spend their money on domestic production? I want to believe. On Chinese social media there are Buddhist prophecies popping up addressing her along with the locust swarms. It is a little too convenient, but if things go well enough, those ironic nightmare shrines on social media might get more funding. Corona-chan might even get sainted.

He won't because he hasn't acted yet. None of the 50 governors have done anything yet either. It's already in the USA, which as of yesterday had a little less than half the number of confirmed cases that Italy does, 35 vs 79.

And yet here's Italy, giving America a lesson in of the People, by the People and for the People.

From what I can suss out, most of those in America are from the Diamond Princess. A number of them were shipped to a special facility in Omaha that held the ebola patients a few years ago.

They were placed in a specially designed bio-containment shipping container that can fit in a military transport or cargo plane. That container was designed and built in KC several years ago, again for the ebola patients. Article on it in the KC Red Star last week.

But, I'm not sanguine about the government doing the smart thing. I'm still hoping that Denninger is right, that this is mainly a cultural, "white man good" sanitation issue, and that it won't rip through us like it is in China and Korea.

Italy is acting properly and promptly to their credit. Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Turkey have all just closed their borders with Iran.

Meanwhile in the states, cities are taking legal action to stop the infected from being placed in makeshift quarantine facilities in their communities. Costa Mesa, CA said it was given little notice, and without input, about the plan by the feds.

Those are about the only Americans who have been tested. There are FAR more travel and work connections between China and the USA than there are between China and Italy. I know of one major trade event that was permit to proceed last week in the USA while MobileWorld in Barcelona was cancelled. If I had to guess, I would assume there are probably more than 10,000 confirmable cases in the USA already.

I've heard reports from a friend in Switzerland that the army has already been mobilized to be ready to shut the national borders on short notice and there is not yet a single reported case there.

Try to grasp that the reported numbers are almost entirely meaningless at this point. That doesn't mean you should panic, but this is the week to prepare for a month of staying home.

US public schools would only close if kids were infecting the teachers and they pressured the teachers union. Protecting students is not on their agenda and never has been.

Blogger Calvin809 February 23, 2020 11:09 AM

Even if the US decided to close off all travel we still have 1000s of people coming in through the southern border from just about everywhere else in the world.

Israel today turned back a Korean jet with around 200 Koreans, only allowing the Israeli citizens to disembark immediately into 14 day quarantine, even without reports of illness, because of a Korean plane last week that brought some ill people over. It ruffled a few feathers in Korea, but it sounds like they are taking it pretty seriously here.

Oh imagine the thought of closing schools here in the USA. It's basically public funded indoctrination-daycare. Why, you can't close the school! How are all those single moms going to get to work?
And God forbid kids not getting their daily dose of poz. Oh the horror! And the teachers unions! OMG if we shut down the schools, chamber of commerce Republicans might lose a vote or two!

I hear the Feds are trying to sneak a few into Alabama. I live in Mississippi, a sister state to Alabama. I don't like that at all. Where I live, the Chinese restaurants are basically deserted these days, though they are run mostly by Vietnamese. They are also notorious for hiring illegals from China.

Blogger Hescominsoon February 23, 2020 11:57 AM

From what I am seeing the evidence does not support airborne transmissions...but fecal. In areas where you are seeing large pockets they are all in areas without modern sanitation and where folks use their hands for wiping and do not have soap or cultural norms of hand washing. In the US and other modern countries the one thing that is not being talked about is where these infected people are from...if they are from Asia then it is not surprising. Unless we see a large breakout in the US then white man good sanitation is one key to containing this. I expect to see a breakout in the liberal areas where people are allowed to defecate and urinate on the streets at will...if there is a breakout to be had that's where it will be.

This is true on both counts. My sister was planning to fly to the states next month from Italy and other family were also planning to meet-up, so we're hopeful there won't be any issues with her leaving Italy.

Overall numbers do serve a purpose in forecasting trends, the 8 deaths just reported in Iran is a good indicator why countries are closing their Iranian borders.

Blogger TheMaleRei February 23, 2020 12:12 PM

There was also a story that the town / city of Costa Mesa in California filed for an injunction to keep the Feds from dropping some confirmed Corona patients in basically an assisted living facility. As an aside, a Judge issued an injunction (or whatever) to stop the Feds from doing so.

In the middle of a county of millions of people.

Rather than *build* a bloody town in the middle of nowhere for the express purpose of treating those confirmed with the virus, like a leper colony, let's put them into the middle of a heavily populated area.

What is going on?

Blogger Johnny February 23, 2020 12:20 PM

The political class can't move ahead of what the public will support, and we have been conditioned to not support quarantines. Crazy culture we have just now. Plus this Corona-chan stuff looks optimized to be contagious. Very likely it is going to go global and be so present that more or less all countries will get it. Too bad there aren't more countries doing what the Italians are doing, but maybe it will only buy them delay, not avoidance.

At least the place in Anniston Alabama makes some since. That used to be the main chemical weapons storage with a lot of NBC training for first responders and doctors every year.
Still, how freakin hard is it to have Corps of Engineers build some hospital camps in the desert then each uninhabited areas in other regions? And any such place the supporting care workers in routine contact should be in their own secondary outer quarantine.
How hard js this?

I think one reason to keep things on a low profile in the USA is due to being a nation of brainless NPCs who see drug commercials on TV every two minutes and end up on subscriptions. Think about it. Half the damned clamoring for free or universal health care is about getting prescription drugs paid more. The mindlessness of it all: like every other person is on something and nobody questions this.
So of course if it went hot here, what with the 24/7 cable news coverage -notably where you see a lot of the drug commercials - every sniffle and sneeze has someone mouth-hyperventilating their way straight to the emergency room. The emergency room already being used as a walk in care clinic by every illegal and bum and his brother.
The potential for hospital collapse in these shitlib zones is high, so of course the shitlib media is going to be silent about any preparations that could be underway. We have a civil war going on so every fact about every thing is OPSEC/COMSEC.
The only dirty bird moves I'm concerned with is the leftocrat controlled areas trying to use the China model of containment. They love that Mao style.

Blogger Zeroh Tollrants February 23, 2020 1:15 PM

Babe, I hate to break it to you like this, but there are Corona cases in America and according to my niece the nurse, there are more in various hospitals across America and they are keeping that info on the down low so as to not cause a panic.

Blogger Zeroh Tollrants February 23, 2020 1:23 PM

A few days ago, the headlines were that over 100 children in America had died from flu this season and that they were expecting a 2nd,even more deadly wave soon.
It's hard to know if those cases were from the plain old American strain of flu or Corona or a mix. I'm positive most weren't tested, especially those pre 4 weeks ago. There just aren't tests for Corona hanging out at the doctor's office or available over the counter at the local pharmacy.
I believe what my nurse niece told me when she said it has been spread all over the US and that people are in quarantine throughout the country and 5hat the CDC is trying to quietly contain it to prevent the spread as well as cause a panic.

Blogger Zeroh Tollrants February 23, 2020 1:32 PM

How quaint. You actually think people in America are health conscious and hygenic. The vast majority don't regularly wash their hands and rub sanitizer on tuff they touch, lol
I can guarantee at least half the people working in an American restaurant kitchen is doing some really gross stuff like nose picking, ball scratching, tampon changing, pooping, peeing, coughing and sneezing, all with dirty hands and they are touching YOUR food.
My son studied go be both a chef and master butcher.
He has worked in dozens of low to high food preparation facilities. The stories would give you nightmares.
Make sure you wash all of your fruit, veg and meat you buy, THOROUGHLY.
Don't order raw or rare food in restaurants.

UTSW (Dallas) has implemented their pandemic plan (though they don't call it that), have been doing universal travel screening for a few weeks, and just fitted every doctor/nurse/med asst with protective clothing. All this though there have been no REPORTED cases in north TX.

Blogger Steve Samson February 23, 2020 2:40 PM

It's getting scarier. I bulked up on long shelf life carbs two weeks ago when the first UK "wild" cases happened, this week I'll do the other essentials (toilet paper, bleach, toothpaste etc). Given the long incubation times I'm assuming avoiding getting the virus is next to impossible, for all I know I've got it already and so have you. It's prep for being shut indoors and/or all businesses being closed. It would be a bitter irony to survive Corona-chan and die of starvation because I can't buy food.

Here In Japan it’s a bit surprising that there aren’t more confirmed cases of Corona-Chan than there are considering China is just just a stones throw away and the Chinese visit here (at least they did) by the millions...and spend even more.

But things are still pretty normal around here. The government seems a little concerned the Summer Olympics 2020 might get moved or cancelled but don’t seem overly concerned about a massive outbreak among its people.

My high school (and all others) is still open but all Sayonara parties for departing teachers have been cancelled. But that’s about it.

Let’s stay safe, keep our prayer rules and use the upcoming season of Lent to help us become closer to the Lord.

Blogger Avalanche February 23, 2020 5:52 PM

Johnny: "Too bad there aren't more countries doing what the Italians are doing, but maybe it will only buy them delay, not avoidance."

There IS no such thing as pandemic avoidance. Containment only slows the spread. Part of our problem is TPTB keep providing false reassurances and pretenses that they can do something. There is NO surge capability in our hospitals; there is NO way to provide ICU beds and oxygen tents and intubation support and nursing staff care and and and... for a vanishingly small number of the folks who WILL get a bed as against the HUGE number who will need it because they got a severe response. This is not fear porn; this is just the case on the ground.

Prepping and planning to protect yourself and your family is the BEST you can do. IF you are lucky and it skips your area, fantastic. Pray and pray some that the SECOND WAVE is not more virulent and also skips your area. Most of the 50 million deaths from the 1918 pandemic happened in the SECOND wave, not the first.

Naturally, the italian gvots understand that once this passes, italy will still be italy. In the US however, cuckservative, neo-palestinian, civnat, and globalist govts do not believe that America will still be America without immigration, free trade, and public schools even for a short time. In their subconscious, at least, these quislings understand that any absence of these things may lead normal Americans to realize they are better off without all three. Thus would perish civnattery--the last refuge of globalismm
