Biden won, Bloomberg's done

Creepy Joe was the big winner of Super Tuesday 2020:
Biden won nine of the 15 primary contests at stake tonight, pulling off a number of upset victories, including a win in Minnesota (we’d projected Sanders would win there), a win in Massachusetts (Sanders again), and a win in Texas (that was more of a toss-up going into tonight), but basically Biden cleaned up across the board. He performed well in states where he wasn’t even really competing, and he proved he’s more than a regional candidate.

Sanders, on the other hand, did not have a great evening. He won just three states outright (Colorado, Utah and Vermont) and underperformed expectations. So far, he does seem on track to win delegate-rich California, though we won’t know the exact margin for a while yet.
The complete delegate totals and how they compared to the pre-primary projections:
  • 513/484 Biden
  • 461/463 Sanders
  • 53/222 Bloomberg
  • 53/162 Warren
That's a huge and very public humiliation for Bloomberg, whose electoral appeal is obviously even more miniaturized than his stature.

The Democratic Party is coalescing around Joe Biden, whose campaign has been defined by many awkward gaffes and one incredible comeback. It was perhaps fitting Tuesday night that when Biden took the stage in Los Angeles to celebrate his historic day of victories, the first thing he did was accidentally confuse his wife and sister.

Warren is in a really nice position to be running mate. Biden probably offering her it right now if she stays in the race until the end, Sanders probably offering her it if she drops out right now.

Meanwhile, Biden had at least 2 hilarious senile moments yesterday.

Damn. Bernie vs Trump would be much funnier. Not that Biden has much of a chance either. Best move for him to rally the democrats would probably to take michelle obama as his vp.

Compare what Biden spent to Bloomberg's investment.

Campaign consultants, strategists, managers, ad agencies, etc. are usually worse than useless. On the other hand, political science majors need jobs, too. We should encourage billionaires to run just to get their money re-circulating in the economy. Bezos 2024!

Biden did well, though I suspect some establishment shenanigans were involved to give him a little help. Biden got the African American vote, since the status quo favors them. African Americans rightly consider their position as the Democrat Primary Victim Group threatened by the growing influence of Latinos.

Latinos, meanwhile, are ready for their turn at the public trough and favored Comrade Sanders. Once California is tallied, Comrade Sanders may match or even surpass Biden.

I suspect we will begin to see a growing enmity between Latinos and African Americans that develops into open political, if not physical, conflict.

It is no where written that American Civil War 2.0 must be started by European Americans.

Recommend investing heavily in popcorn futures.

New Yorkers have no idea how much they're loathed by the rest of the country. Trump is an exception; decades in the public eye have allowed people to form opinions about him that have nothing to do with "rich guy from New York." Bloomberg has none of that. NYC: check. Wall Street: check. Thinks he should tell the rest of us how to live right down to food and drink: double-check. That's all we know about him, and it's all bad.

When Richard Nixon was running for reelection they discovered that his name had negative connotations. They took to calling him The President like that was a person's name. I was thinking that is the way Bloomberg should have been handled. Don't expect that people are going to like him, and put him on display as little as possible. Do things like voice over with him in the background in the commercials. That sort of thing.

Given the way he was handled, I take it that Bloomberg didn't really take advice much. Given his personality maybe people were reluctant to offer anything critical. Mr. full of himself put himself up front.

And it looks like Bernie is out. Had to get it on the first ballot. And instead it is that dopey Biden of all things. I doubt they can pitch Biden out or it will make the whole primary season look like a fake. Maybe a female veep would be a good choice.

I of course want to see the Emperor returned to his throne but it bothers me that almost every time a President goes for a second term, the other side throws up a loser to compete. i was correct that the DNCe is pulling out all the stops to derail the Bernie train.

Warren finished third in her home state, won zero states ... and vows not to quit.

the only reason to do that is because she's splitting votes primarily from Sanders, and that's the primary goal of the Democrat establishment.

I'm actually surprised by how off the polls were to the votes.

I was very surprised how much the polls predicted for Sanders. Usually, the favored candidate has a bit of a bump in the pre-vote polling compared to actuals, but this was double digit off for both preferred and disfavored. Following the theory that pre-election polls are propaganda and manipulation (and my own theory that they are cover for vote tampering), do you think the vote tampering was a bit over-zealous?

@15 ZhukovG

That black-Latino war has been going on at least since I was three in both Southern California and in the North East corridor. Spanish Harlem was won by force, as was Compton. The amount of violence used in reconquering black neighborhoods exceed anything the Klan did during Jim Crow. Asked a black brother in Christ when I was seventeen why blacks kept supporting politicians who will bring more Latinos into their neighborhoods, and his response was along the lines that the Latin race will screw whitey too, and the gibmedats.

The US media reports nothing about it, not a blip of the ethnic cleansing going on. They go nuts when they think a white dude may have burned down a black church, but if Latinos fire bomb a black church plus a quarter of the houses on a block in response to a chicana getting raped by some bloods, not a peep. At most a mention in the LA Times of some gang related conflict.

Mini-Mike openly talked in 2011 about how he would solve the problem of Detroit by allowing mass migration from South of the US border into the city with the condition the new arrivals and their children could not leave for at least ten years. It wasn't just stop and frisk that reduced New York's crime problem, blacks were fleeing New York for Newark during the street wars with Puerto Ricans and Dominicans in particular.

I have worked on an outline for a book of this de facto war that has been going on in America for my lifetime that nearly no posterity American has any clue about. Put it on hold while working on a business and embracing fatherhood, will get back to it when I'm less busy.

Biden's campaign was on the edge of running out of money a week or two ago.

Since the Deep State decision has been made, we'll see how much money floods into him now.

Given that he's a defensive no-hope pick, it might not be all that much. The money might be split up for downstream races, and/or go to bail out the DNC.

You've got lots of company with that suspicion. Democrat voters fall in line when the DNC/media tells them to fall in line, but Sleepy Joe surely got some extra help.

So, reviewing the situation ... Pete Buttigieg took a pretty bad reaming in South Carolina, so he pulled the plug. No more gay jokes unless he returns as a VP candidate. Bloomberg just didn't measure up, so no more short jokes unless he -- no, there is no possible universe where Bloomberg is a VP candidate. Assuming not a lot of hanky-panky with the electronic machines. In Texas, the numbers are 92.32% of precincts reporting for Democrat, 95.64% of Republican. Incumbent turnout in high confidence is usually lower in the Primary. High turnout for the non-Incumbent means intense framing. Which means turnout, rather than resting on confidence, during the General Election, is going to be key here.

The recent drop-outs, and the continued presence of Warren, is an obvious indication that the Dem establishment wants Biden to be the nominee. Hypothetically subtract all Warren's delegates and give them to Bernie and you can imagine how different the Super Tuesday outcome would be. Now that I've got the obvious out of the way I can make a less obvious point. I hear most pundits saying the Dem establishment wants Biden over Bernie because they are uncomfortable with Bernie's "outsider" status and radical policies. This may be partially true in a very limited sense, but it is not the main reason they are propping Biden up.

The overwhelming reason that Biden is being supported by the Democrat machine is that as long as he is a candidate, the Justice Department looks partisan if it investigates the Ukraine corruption. They are just trying to buy time to avoid their sins being exposed. They know Biden is an inferior candidate but they have no other option than to keep buying time. Biden as nominee gives them the chance to continue the failed impeachment narrative, or as a strategy to find (or create) new dirt on Trump.

Policy has almost nothing to do with what is happening in US politics today. The only real story is the on going cover up of corruption so the Promethean leech can keep sucking the Empire dry.

How do you think politicians get filthy, stinkin' rich in $100,000 a year jobs? It's by routing all those millions of campaign contributions into their own pockets. Since politicians make the laws, it's all legal.

In this country, we call it campaign contributions. In other countries we call it bribery.

I was definitely wrong about Bernie's broader appeal though. I expected him to do better than he did.

I see a lot of people make the mistake of assuming that Democrat party members think like they do. Well, if they did, they wouldn't be members of that party. They're crowd-following fools. When the party machinery gears up to tell them that Candidate X has the best chance of defeating OrangeManBad in a cathartically apocalyptic showdown in November, then they start getting all wet and they go out and vote for the corrupt sleazy pervert or whatever else travesty of a human being the party points them at.

As for the black swing vote, Unz Report pointed out a few days ago that there's several generations of selective breeding for obedience behind most of that lot, as well as being crowd-following fools. IOW, it's less about "broader appeal" than it is about perception management among a relatively homogeneous (in their thinking) subsection of the "broader public" who are not firing on all cylinders to begin with.

You can't get here from there.

Purpose of the mailings is three-fold. (1) To raise money, and (2) To spread the message associated with the mailing, and (3) To amass a list of supporters. There is a certain logic, at this stage in a campaign, to keep doing the mailings repetitively to larger and larger groups, including those that responded to the initial mailing, as a way of growing the mailing list itself. At least that was how things worked in the 70's - 90's. I would think there would be a way to do something similar with e-mails, but a lot cheaper.
