Making room for Trump

It's only a matter of time before Teddy Roosevelt is removed from Mount Rushmore:
The American Museum of Natural History will remove a prominent statue of Theodore Roosevelt from its entrance after years of objections that it symbolizes colonial expansion and racial discrimination, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Sunday.

The bronze statue that has stood at the museum's Central Park West entrance since 1940 depicts Roosevelt on horseback with a Native American man and an African man standing next to the horse.

'The American Museum of Natural History has asked to remove the Theodore Roosevelt statue because it explicitly depicts Black and Indigenous people as subjugated and racially inferior,' de Blasio said in a written statement.

'The City supports the Museum's request. It is the right decision and the right time to remove this problematic statue.'
While I would prefer to keep statues where they are, it is good to know that there is going to be space on Mount Rushmore for the God-Emperor once he drains the Swamp.

Every year is Year Zero for the warriors of Social Justice.

After the statues are toppled comes the guillotine.

There is an SJW couple I know who named their kid Teddy after this president. I wonder what they are going to do now.

If Stacey Abrams had become governor here, we would've been wrangling with trying to stop Stone Mountain from being blasted, Taliban-style, to remove the Confederate carving on it. The carving is much bigger than Mt Rushmore, and celebrates the Confederacy. It was commissioned by the KKK, but the area around it is way more than majority black now.

They will come for Mt Rushmore, but after Stone Mountain has been destroyed. The good news is that there's plenty of granite there to build a much bigger monument after it is recaptured after resegregation in about 13 years.

It would be great if, instead of those four "old huwhite men", it was just four Trumps: Each at a different stage in his life, with unique interpretations of his hairstyle.

And not a word about the poor horse being used as an animal of burden! These people are such anthropo-supremacists they see animals as inferior!

We want ten trillion tons of hay to be given to all horses now for the historical injustices perpetrated against our equine brethren!!

Glue factories = Holohorst!

Ironic, given Roosevelt's progressive (at that time) beliefs.

Blogger Doktor Jeep June 22, 2020 7:12 AM

Wasn't Roosevelt the reason why we're stuck with Peurto Rico? For that alone WE should be getting his statue taken out.
Also seen some jokes regarding the status of liberty being next. Another one Americans should have torn down in protest.
Bet there are plenty more, if Americans learned actual history.

Blogger Shimshon June 22, 2020 7:19 AM

Good. He was overrated. The bronze can be melted down, the copper (the orange-red metal) extracted, and a statue of GEOTUS in an oxygen-free environment (free of radicals) to protect its bigly and beautiful orange-red sheen should be erected in its place.

Blogger Nihil Dicit June 22, 2020 7:25 AM

@5 - The horse probably has better bloodlines:

"'The world does not need statues, relics of another age, that reflect neither the values of the person they intend to honor nor the values of equality and justice,' Theodore Roosevelt IV, a great-grandson of the president, said in a statement to the Times.

'The composition of the Equestrian Statue does not reflect Theodore Roosevelt's legacy. It is time to move the statue and move forward.'

Theodore Roosevelt IV is a trustee of the museum."

I live in Richmond VA, ground zero for tearing down Civil War statues. The racial tension is so thick you can cut it with a knife. As one mandinkan (female, RN) told me, "We been trying that peaceful protest stuff for years, now we ready for killing folks."

For the past week, BLM/Antifa seem to be implementing a new tactic. Starting around dusk, the gunfire begins. It's spread out, no single location. Various weapons, mostly high capacity 9's, some shotguns, the odd AK/AR and some idiot insomniac with an elephant gun.

400 to 600 shots per night, at random, mostly from sunset to 2300. Mr. elephant gun is all hours of the night.

The fight right now is in the court over Bob Lee's statue. Things are getting interesting around here.

Problematic statue. What was the murder rate in NYC again?

Given the pattern of SJW parents, a girl's name to go with the hormones.

This is such delicious irony. Every American kid educated in public schools can tell you that the (always left-leaning) teachers at the elementary and junior high school level admired two, and ONLY two, Republican presidents: Abraham Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt. And they only Admired Roosevelt for successfully lobbying Congress to create the National Parks system, and the (brief, yet still stupid) Spanish American War, but not for the achievement which is actually admirable: getting the Panama Canal built (nor all of the intrigue involved with successfully backing a group of Panamanian rebels to successfully revolt against the Columbian government, as Bogotá wanted nothing to do with it; and breaking up Standard Oil and other overgrown trusts.

Blogger Akulkis June 22, 2020 8:49 AM

Why do you think Vox keeps saying, "it's always year zero" with these maniacs.

Blogger Azimus June 22, 2020 8:50 AM

Why don't we just get on with it and replace every statue, memorial in America with a memorial to Harvey Milk and get it over with?

Is the Trumpslide still coming?

Blogger Section 8A June 22, 2020 9:21 AM

We went on a class trip there - we walked from PS84 - and when the teacher asked "Whose that?", pointing at the statue, someone yelled out: "The Lone Ranger and Tonto!"

It still makes me laugh....

Blogger Canadian Warlord June 22, 2020 9:23 AM

Roosevelt the elder happened along at a time when the Spanish empire wasn't just collapsing, it was in freefall. Their baby was wood sailboats!

Maybe people would prefer that the British or the Turks (collapsing slightly less fast) had taken Peurto Rico and Cuba? Or Mexico... Maybe the Japanese in the Philippines. What a world that would be.

Sometimes empires fall into your laps. The US army was volunteer for craps sakes.

"Explicitly," he says. (Or some flunky says.) Except that's not explicit. That message is being read into work. Which usually tells us more about the observer than the art itself.

A shame...Teddy was one of the good ones but I can see why they want him gone. Teddy was the epitome of healthy American vigor.

That's interesting. We've been getting that as well in San Francisco. Mostly it's fireworks in the projects every night with various shots throughout the night. It all started when the police decided they aren't responding to non-emergency calls.

I don't think it's being organized nationally, but I never thought of it as low-grade intimidation. I just thought it was poor impulse control and opportunism.

Give Louisiana to the blacks and ban them from setting foot in ant other state. Conversely, prohibit Americans from setting foot in Negrostan. Segregation was the only way to coexist.

I hear the fireworks / gunshots are to confuse gunshot detector mics around the cities. The mics help to determine where to increase police presence. They hate that.

The chatter from the Chinese community in America is that it is China that is funding the unrest.

They want to bring on CWII before their economy implodes and they face enormous amounts of civil unrest.

I would suggest building Wakanda in Zimbabwe.

No fireworks around here, it's all gunfire. Not happening in the daytime, nighttime only. Just talked to a friend in the fan district and he says it's happening over there too.

To the best of my knowledge, Richmond doesn't have a shot-spotter system and I'm pretty sure that nobody is calling in the gunshots at this point. Seems to me that it's an intimidation tactic and at this point NOBODY will make a statement to police about anything.

Can't wait to read "the Conservative Case for Abolishing the Constitution and Bill of Rights"... and we probably won't have to wait long either.

Tangentially related, my wife and I were sitting talking last night and to the best of our knowledge, since January 20, 2017, American society has had 3-4 weeks TOTAL where we have not been watching some tectonic-level event or other unfolding daily.

RUSSIAN ELECTION INTERFERENCE FBI INVESTIGATION: DEC 2016 - MAY 2017
MUELLER INVESTIGATION: MAY 2017 - APR 2019
HOUSE FOLLOWUP ON MUELLER INVESTIGATION: APR 2019 - JULY 2019
GULF OF OMAN INCIDENTS W/IRAN: MAY 2019 - JUNE 2019

(August 2019 - Peace & Quiet!)

HOUSE IMPEACHMENT: SEP 2019 - JAN 2020
SENATE IMPEACHMENT TRIAL: JAN 2020 - FEB 2020
COVID PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY: FEB 2020 - MAY 2020
GEORGE FLOYD KILLED, RIOTING: MAY 2020 - JUN 2020

This smells/feels like a "pinning attack" to prevent free movement, free-thinking. Its like a cortisol mass-assassination attempt. All my friends and family do anymore is talk about cornavirus and the protests. Its mind enslavement.

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.” ― George Orwell, 1984

Blogger Sweet One June 22, 2020 5:11 PM

George Washington (the slave owner) would probabaly be first to go on Mt. Rushmore.

There's no point anymore of debating whether the statue is "racist" or not. If you wnat to preserve American history, defend against removal, and don't back down. Because there's no end to this. None at all.

Next they'll ban the movie "Arsenic and Old Lace" because it contains an insane character who thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt.

Blogger the other boomer June 22, 2020 8:53 PM

Roosevelt's progressive was mainly trust busting; we could stand some of that kind of progressive now. His imperialism, on the other hand, has negative consequences as others have pointed out above. But his "Man in the Arena" speech http://theodore-roosevelt.com/trsorbonnespeech.html and his writings in general, which take a great deal of their interest from his admirable character, entitle him to an equestrian statue, if not a place on Mt Rushmore. He loved ranch life in the Dakotas. Maybe the GE can replace the tyrant who killed off 600,000 of (what he insisted were) his countrymen?

Suicide by Military instead of Suicide by Police? Interesting thought.

I'm afraid that before the swamp is actually drained, Rushmore will have crumbled to dust.
