The Left has cucks too

It's amazing how these fake "free speech advocates" are afraid to tell the truth even when they are taking a public stand:
More than 150 academics and writers including the likes of JK Rowling, Margaret Atwood and Salman Rushdie have called for an end to 'cancel culture,' to defend their right to freedom of speech.

Journalist Anne Applebaum warned 'Twitter mobs' on the left and right sides of the political agenda, along with US President Donald Trump, were placing 'very important restraints on freedom of speech'.

Ms Rowling and Ms Atwood, the author of The Handmaid's Tale, have both signed the letter, despite being on opposing sides on trans issues recently.

The letter, published in Harper's calls for: 'The free exchange of information and ideas, the lifeblood of a liberal society, is daily becoming more constricted.'

The signatories go on to say they 'uphold the value of robust and even caustic counter speech from all quarters.'

It later adds:  'It is now all too common to hear calls for swift and severe retribution in response to perceived transgressions of speech and thought.'
Neither Twitter mobs nor President Trump are the problem. And they know that perfectly well, they're just afraid to go after the ADL, BLM, the social media giants, and the very concept of "hate speech" for fear that they'll be targeted next. The ADL is ground zero for all the thought and speech policing in the USA and provides the impetus for a considerable amount of speech policing by the tech companies. So, if you're not directly addressing that evil organization and its ongoing war against Americans and the First Amendment, you're not serious about free speech.

And speaking of fear, Spacebunny had an amusing thought about the dilemma that now confronts one fourth-tier writer of mediocre science fiction.

You know Scalzi is losing sleep right this very minute trying to figure out which side is ultimately going to be his best bet……

Scalzi is like a Bolshevik Apparatchik desperately trying to decide whether to follow Stalin or Trotsky. He wants to be on the winning side. But, being weak, must hold onto someone else's coattails.

One false move and he'll be purged. It's got to be a nightmare for him. I am almost moved to pity him.

Perhaps there is hope for the Alt-Right and the anarcho-communist left to unite against a common despised enemy: the Cuck.

And I know why both sides despise him: the Cuck only offers solutions to past problems, ignorant that knowing what worked for past problems offers zero knowledge for how to solve future problems. Both ancoms and the Alt-Right have the work ethic to devise a new guiding philosophy that can create new solutions for future problems.

Blogger Twisted Root July 08, 2020 6:57 AM

Leftist, being cowards, always universalise a problem when they have created it. They were the problem from the beginning. Free speech only ever meant a platform for them and not their enemies. It is a flawed concept; you never have it when you need it.

@6 "some claim harry potter books helped create current sjw climate, guess Rowling gets what she deserves."

I most certainly affirm this. A generation of kids growing up thinking they are super special unique secret wizards is not likely to end well.

Every child of the last 20 years has been force-fed Harry fucking Potter, and now look at the adults that have resulted. What's really creepy is that it's the common childhood storybook / movie-hour the world over. Truly the globalists dream. One culture for all.

Of course I am way over the front of my skis but I think we on the Right could actually become Freedom fighters, seriously do you not want your freedom from this vile gang?

Why would either waste time on such a stupid idea?

Blogger [Redacted] July 08, 2020 7:50 AM

Now that it affects them, silenced them and threatens their livelihoods, they protest by signing an open letter. That might have worked 5 years ago, but now property damage is considered nonviolent protest - an open letter by a bunch of old women looks fake and gay. Nobody cares. Maybe they should burn some pride flags, tell the mob they are oppressed, and see how well that works for them.

Blogger Yossarian July 08, 2020 7:56 AM

Spacebunny's ight. Not only are employees at these large companies mandated by the HR departments to promote the party's agenda on social media but they're also given contradicting official narratives. Fired if you do, fired if you don't. Catch-22.

Blogger JG July 08, 2020 8:05 AM

For the left, which is absent any principle but will to power, after they gain power, it is not enough that all bow to them. There will be a quota system set up and they'll murder just because they can, because they want even those who are on their side to know that the executioner can come for them at any time.

The left always eats its own. JK Rowling and the rest know it, too, but it may be too late for them.

Blogger jijijeac July 08, 2020 8:12 AM

i agree with vox that this isn't a free speech issue but that all of these people hide under free speech to push their agenda. JK Rowling is just an outdated sjw. She believes all the sjw nonsense bar the transgender part. This is mostly to do with the fact that when she was young white women were on the top of the progressive stack and now they aren't. that is why she has many old sjw type tweets of the "as a woman...I am fighting for the rights of women" type. Now she is also a realist given that she recognizing the danger that transgenders pose to women and girls but she should of realized that the "progressive" or "status quo" movement in the social arena is not based on facts. It is rather based on theology that is then imposed through violence: physical, verbal, financial and otherwise. Now I do understand the conservation instinct that women have in regards to traansgenders but maybe if jk rolwig would also be more realistic on the issues of gender and race then maybe she would understand that transgenderism is not the only insane theology that the sjw push. but that would require critical thinking on her behalf instead of simply acting out of conservation instinct.

"Couldn't similar things be said about The Lord of the Rings?"

Tolkien wasn't an SJW as far as I know, or even a leftist. In fact, he was something that is pretty much unforgivable in the current year: he was a faithful, pre-Vatican II Catholic. He even said himself that LOTR was a "fundamentally religious and Catholic work" (Tolkien: A Celebration, page 103)

Blogger "William Berke" July 08, 2020 12:56 PM

I do not understand what the authors are trying to communicate. Their conclusion; "A series of five films." will not go over well with fanatics. They must have lost their editor for this piece. In any case protest against land management will lower property values for everyone.

Steve Bing: consider your debt paid in full:

“Bing was reported to have given at least $49.5 million during the 2006 election cycle in support of Proposition 87, a California initiative which sought to raise $4 billion in oil production taxes to help develop alternative fuels. Bing also supported several key races in other parts of the country as Democrats fought to win back control of Congress. They included Democratic challenger Bob Casey, Jr. in Pennsylvania, who unseated conservative GOP incumbent Sen. Rick Santorum, and future United States senator Tammy Duckworth in Illinois, then a Democratic Congressional hopeful and an Army National Guard major who lost her legs in Iraq, who went on to lose to State Sen. Peter Roskam in that race. Excluding Prop. 87 contributions, in California Bing donated $7.8 million worth from 2000 on, according to the California secretary of state. He spent $4.25 million in 2005 in a successful effort to defeat Prop. 77, a redistricting initiative sponsored by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Other beneficiaries of his political largesse included; the California Democratic Party ($640,172); Gov. Gray Davis ($675,000); and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, whose campaign received $750 in 2004.

In October 2008, Bing pledged to match donations made to the NO on Proposition 8 campaign from October 17–19.

On December 18, 2008, the William J. Clinton Foundation released a list of all contributors. It included Stephen L. Bing, who gave between US$10–25 million...”

Also:
“Bing killed himself on June 22, 2020, at the age of 55, by jumping from his apartment on the 27th floor of a building in the Century City neighborhood of Los Angeles.”

Was there something that happened recently that would cause him some concern? Perhaps some high profile arrest?

Mantraman, I don't think you are over the front of your skis at all. Love hopes all things, and one must do what one can for peaceful change, but given what we know about SJWs and leftists in general, we are very likely to be forced to become freedom fighters like Franco, Pinochet, and Quantrill.

Unknown #19: I had given up SF 30 years ago, but our host Vox Day and Castalia House provide good sci fi. I particularly liked "There will be war vol. 10", Niven and Pournelle and a fantastic new author Cheah Kai Wai. Other authors I recommend would be Tom Kratman, Rolf Nelson, and Peter Grant.

In every moral argument that has "do this" versus "do not do this", there are always those idiots that think "we can do 50% of this" is a viable middle ground. In fact, many of them think it is an inherently superior position.

It does not matter what the moral argument is, so "cucks" will appear on all sides of issues.

The Lord of The Rings is exactly what many a pig-nosed academic who hates it claim it to be: reactionary. That's why so many people have such a strong affection for it, and it's a long way from anything SJW.

"Fantasy culture" is a broad term, but since most fantasy was the province of true nerds, which means omegas, progressive it was not. No pink-haired harridans are citing Robert E. Howard or Clark Ashton Smith in their diatribes against the cisheteronormativeracist Patriarchy. In fact, they hate those "old dead white men" as among the worst of the worst.

Vox Day's Quantum Mortis are great action SF

Take the Star Road and the rest of the Maxwell story by Peter Grant.are also chock full of space opera goodness

If you like Cordwainer Smith, John C Wright is the modern version. Try Superluminary or the Pangaea books (for a Princess of Mars vibe) or Nowhither. Awake in the Night is unforgettable.

The Pournelle There Will Be War classics hold up, and there's a new edition

Nearly all of these may be found at Castalia House or Amazon.com or Silver Empire.

First of all, Tolkien readers have also read other books. Not sure that's true for most Harry Potter readers.

Second, reading LOTR gives the reader the perspective of ordinary people in extraordinary times. Could I be as determined as Frodo, as faithful as Sam? Could I rise to the occasion when called upon?

Harry Potter readers come away thinking they are one of the super-special people with the special power - "I certainly couldn't be an ordinary Muggle" - and any day their owl is going to show up.

[13 minutes of immature taking turns performing spoken word activism routines that accuse Trump of being Bad, using different wording of the same questions asked by the previous "journalist" (but still patiently answered by Kaylie, again and again and again) -- always being sure to ask zero questions about the actual topic Kaylie came to talk about]

[2 minutes of Kaylie calmly but ferociously pointing this out, gradually exposing their fecklessness to the fence sitters and potential #Walkaway candidates who "always voted Democrat"]
