No football in 2020

It looks as if there will be no NCAA football this fall:
The MAC was the first domino. And it may end up being big enough to knock the other ones over. Multiple reports indicate that college football season will be scrapped within the week.
I would anticipate that if the NCAA season is canceled, the NFL season will soon follow suit. Fortunately, thanks to the SJWs, little of value will be lost.

Great opportunity for Americans to play sports rather than just watch them... That is, unless the VirusGestapo shuts that down too.

I live in Los Angeles County, local government is forbidding recreational leagues for any team sport to operate as well as discouraging groups of people to play contact sports. Public Golf courses and tennis courts are open. Volleyball nets on the beach were removed back in March, people need to bring their own nets to play. Basketball rims have been taken down. Fields are open but try getting more than a group of 5 to commit to showing up to play baseball, soccer, or football. Some karen will probably call the cops if she sees a group playing a pickup game.

"I would anticipate that if the NCAA season is canceled, the NFL season will soon follow suit."

Some NFL players are already pursuing their career alternatives:

I wasn't planning to watch anyway. I suspect this is a PR move by the NCAA. The spectacle of college football players kneeling would lead to lots of unhappy alumni. They have the perfect out to blame canceling the season on the virus. That also provides cover for the NFL to follow the lead and cancel their season. Instead of dealing with the SJW problem, just kick the can down the road.

Blogger Mr.MantraMan August 08, 2020 4:49 PM

Put me in the column for not missing the NFL, bummer about CFB.

Blogger Damelon Brinn August 08, 2020 4:50 PM

The establishment can't let team sports go on if they're dead-set on convincing people that we're all still in deadly danger. It doesn't compute. They already look silly holding things like car shows with everyone standing around in masks. It's too obvious that if they were really as afraid as they tell us we should be, they'd shut down such optional events.

Maybe they'll say football makes you immune to virus, like protesting does.

Blogger Rough Carrigan August 08, 2020 5:02 PM

Utterly ridiculous for a virus that kills almost no one under the age of 50. Even Tom Brady's not in the endangered demographic.

Since nobody is going back to campus this fall, NCAA basketball is doomed too.

I've been posting to my local college team's fanboy accounts about how their sport is anti-patriotic, anti-Christian, and anti-white and ought to be cancelled. It would be good riddance.

Blogger Doktor Jeep August 08, 2020 6:34 PM

Great. Might as well put my old car up on blocks. I needed football to provide a safe time on Sundays to drive it. Even run errands without seething road fuckery from the proletards. They will be out and about 24/7 with no breaks.

Blogger Seeingsights August 08, 2020 6:36 PM

The sport that is the least pozzed, the NHL, is the sport that has been doing the best during this this time.

Blogger cecilhenry August 08, 2020 6:39 PM

IF it wasn't so laughable maybe I'd care.

There is NO need for any of this. The want to have a crisis, and use this virus as an excuse.

I don't care about professional sports and their antics, but what this is doing to the average citizen, in terms of job security and productivity, is criminal.

Its not about the virus.

Blogger MichaelJMaier August 08, 2020 6:46 PM

The XFL is already converged. The Rock is busy alienating XFL fans he doesn't even HAVE yet!

Blogger cyrus83 August 08, 2020 6:50 PM

I don't think the NFL owners would mind passing on the season given the economics of having to play in empty stadia and missing out on all the gate, concessions, and parking revenue.

That said, I think the NFL does at least begin the season unless they are forced to shut down, if for no other reason than to let the players put on their kneeling antics. Protests > health concerns in the woke SJW world. The bad ratings likely convince the owners to shut down mid-season and blame Corona-chan when it's really about the fan revolt.

Blogger Damelon Brinn August 08, 2020 6:51 PM

This is all fascinating (and bizarre) to watch.

It really is. The general population always believes an array of pretty lies, but I don't think we've ever lived through such a blatant case of The Emperor Has No Clothes before. Not in my lifetime, anyway. And it doesn't even matter whether you think Corona-chan is deadly, just-a-flu, or fake. The fact is that we have supposed experts and officials who took to the airwaves and print this spring to declare A, and then a couple months later they started declaring not-A, and a good part of the population said, "Seems legit, whatever you say."

I'd pay Fauci $1000 to announce that we need to wear propeller beanies to ward off the virus. He could say it has something to do with turbulence from the propeller stirring the air away from the face. If Trump called it stupid on Twitter, I'll bet we could sell millions of beanies within the week. Some governors might even mandate them.

Blogger Retrenched August 08, 2020 7:18 PM

Sports media have been calling for the cancellation of the season for a while, mainly because it's an election year and they think this will hurt Trump in November.

Certainly not the first time a woke corporation put politics above profits. This is one helluva blow they're absorbing though, if they go through with it. Maybe they're hoping Biden wins and bails them out?

Blogger Dantheman August 08, 2020 7:20 PM

The NHL is pretty converged. Their social media accounts are still littered with BLM post.

Blogger Dr. J August 08, 2020 7:41 PM

Wow - someone really wants to killshot the university system. No in-person classes, no sports will mean no enrollment. Hell - is there any reason to go to school at 'Bama except to go to the games? The lost sports revenue and the inevitable fragmentation of the student body is a perfect storm to end the corrupt college scam.

Good riddance to whole pozzed mess.

Blogger thethirdcoast August 08, 2020 7:51 PM

This is the time to do it.

There is tons of worthwhile educational content online for free or very little cost.

Just one example - Steven Brunton's series of math lectures on YouTube.

They are exactly what you would hear in his courses at U Washington. Why would you pay tons of money for what he is giving away?

Blogger thethirdcoast August 08, 2020 7:57 PM

Anyone else notice the NYT mea culpa article admitting CHAZ/CHOP was quite violent and Mayor Wheeler's 180 on the riots?

I wonder if that was driven by horrible Dem internal polling numbers on the riots.

Now poll normies for no football, Dems. I dare you.

Blogger Middle American Water Tower Man August 08, 2020 8:08 PM

Yes good riddance! It’s so good to see the average joe on my softball team talk about how they are sick of it all and have no interest in watching sports.

Blogger vmax71 August 08, 2020 8:18 PM

Number 28.: The contrarian in me wonders whether cancelling football means the universities don't have to deal with the kneeling players/coaches, etc.

Secondly, I am not sure all of college football will be cancelled. The MAC has no reason to play in the fall without spectators. Wait till the spring. Their teams are not under any consideration for things like national championships. The SEC/Big Ten/Big 12 on the other hand need to play to fulfill their TV contracts

Blogger VD Bear August 08, 2020 8:35 PM

I’ll be interested to see what the power 5 does, if anything. For people not familiar with how college football scheduling works, a lot of MAC teams get paid anywhere from 500k to 1.5M per game to play against a big time power 5 team. Each MAC team would have a couple or 3 of these pay-to-lose games a year and effectively funds their entire athletic department for the year. Well the power 5 cut all these games and will play conference only this year. So the MAC lost about 90+% of its athletic funding so cancelling actually makes good finacial sense.

Blogger Section 8A August 08, 2020 8:52 PM

Good. My NY Giants need a few more years to rebuild. Isn't there another Manning in the pipeline?

Blogger James Dixon August 08, 2020 9:09 PM

> It looks as if there will be no NCAA football this fall...

It's been iffy for quite a while now. I'd say they're right and the MAC shutting down pretty much seals the deal. If for no other reason than I don't think the colleges are up to dealing with the inevitable lawsuits that would be coming their way from players who get the illness.

Blogger Brett baker August 08, 2020 9:11 PM

Divisions II and III aren't playing. The Big Ten is just playing itself. Missouri Valley Conference is going to play in the spring; non-conference games are up to individual teams to decide if they're playing.

Blogger RedJack August 08, 2020 9:18 PM

Blogger SemiSpook37 August 08, 2020 10:23 PM

Well, out of the Power 5, the Big Ten seems to have their stuff together. 10 game season, games within the entire conference. My only gripe is they moved Michigan-Ohio State to the end of October instead of the last game of the season. They did provide for an extra week should the schedule need to move for any of the games, and the league championship game is also movable.

I suspect the entire reason for doing this is the contracts with both Fox and Disney for the broadcasting piece, which is a significant portion of income for the schools, even without ticket and concession revenues.

I suspect this is the reason the MAC ended up cancelling their season: a huge chunk of their revenue comes from being on the out of conference schedules of Big Ten and ACC schools. Once the Big Ten made the announcement they were staying in-house, the MAC folded due to the loss of revenue. I suspect a good number of conferences will likely follow the same route.

On the plus side, it means that much less money flowing from Americans to globalists.

On the other side of the ledger, We can't even have our own little sportsball tribes anymore. Anything that brings Americans together must be destroyed. It's a danged shame.

Nearly 20yrs. ago my wife and I were struggling to keep video games out of our home. An acquaintance of ours bought a gaming system for his kids so he would have something to take away from them if they were misbehaving. I wasn't a fan of that plan.
There was a time when I practically scheduled my life around pro sports. A few years ago, I woke up and realized that pro sports are not what I thought they were. They are very much like that gaming system to me now.

MAC being a patsy conference to the Power 5 to make their budgets, our local Directional university would play one or two games against a P5 team per year. Normally though if you got the stands half full during the season it would be above average attendance, so as noted with no P5 games and the money from that it's a money sink, plus the admin get good Lefty cred for screwing over blacks who they probably secretly hate anyway. Being the black football players swaggered about campus in a hyper masculine way about 180 degrees diff from White Prog gimp culture so beloved by the chestless. Buddy of mine went to a lower tier MAC never was college and lived in an apartment that also had some Omegas in residence, he said their hazing rituals scared the shit out of him since he could hear it taking place.

Unfortunately rugby is almost as converged as football (euro and American versions). The only resistance is in women’s rugby which has started proposing to ban male trannies from playing in women’s teams. But the men’s side are a bunch of fags freaks and foreigners.

Blogger Silent Draco August 09, 2020 8:16 AM

In the BIg en and elsewhere, expect to have games played in empyt stadiums. Season ticket holders get the option of making "charitable contribution", holdover to the following season, or cancellation and no guarantee of getting their seats and parking spaces in the future. Fourth option may come into play with wealthy alumni: "about that major donation, contract, or other two comma thing you wanted ... NO."

That's also a lot of lost revenue to the surrounding or adjoining town/city - lodging, parking, food, entertainment, taxes. Local businesses and franchises will get stuck, and local municipalities will see drops in revenue. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, those permits, cooperative projects, etc. get put on the far back burner or get canceled. Suddenly, traffic laws, parking regs, and construction inspections get very up-close and personal.

I don't think half your readers truly understand where the bulk of pro sport revenue comes from.

It may not matter in the US. Sure, they could play in empty stadiums and reap the TV revenue. But if they send 22 men out on a field to tackle each other for three hours, they can't sell the idea that we'll all die if we don't wear masks when we buy groceries. And at least some of the woke players are buying into the mania, so they'll make it look like the leagues are pushing players, mostly non-whites, to risk their lives for our entertainment.

There's just no way to do it and make it look reasonable, if they're at the same time trying to keep Covid panic high through the election. And that's the most important thing to the establishment right now.

Again this is not rational. The owners don't care about wokeness other than the direct bottom line and they already assume their nottom bit5h Goddell has groveled enough. The league splits over 8 BILLION DOLLARS a year with the teams from just tv. Much if which is voided or heavily reduced if no games. None of these owners care about your esoteric reasonings for appearing woke compared to that. Compare that figure to 3 to 12 million per gane for 8 whole games with attendance in person. Its ridiculous.
