"We could have some unrest"

Board of Clackamas County, Oregon, Commissioners Emergency Meeting

Thur. Sept. 10, 2020

There are lots of confirmed reports of looting, mostly in the outlying areas, Estacada, Colton, Molalla, Sandy, mostly in the outlying areas. Lots of looting has been taking place, burglaries and whatnot. There's reports of — and this is not specific to an area but all over the county, both outlying and even closer into town — of people of extremist groups staging gas cans for later destruction. And equally concerning is there are reports of people from other extremist groups, it's not confirmed Antifa but suspected Antifa — this is more specific to the Estacada area — reports and sightings of people armed with chainsaws. And the goal was to fall telephones poles in hopes of starting further fires.

- Captain Jeff Smith, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Department

After hearing that from Capt. Smith here I'm inclined, Jim [Bernard, Clackamas County Commission Chair], we've got to make an appeal to the governor to call in the National Guard. That's critical information that is very unsettling. There's not enough law enforcement resources in the sheriff's department to handle all that. And I'm fine with the curfew county-wide now more so than I was fifteen minutes ago but for crying out loud, we can't allow a deliberate attack on property and people's lives and just somehow leave the National Guard out there, sitting at home waiting for the call.

- Commissioner Paul Savas

The issue, and I'm tied in, I'm sure we all are with our connections in the outlying areas of Clackamas County but it's not only "Is this Antifa?" but it's people's perception that there's a threat and so we have very strong members of our community that believe in protection of life, property, and we could have some unrest which we need to be measuring the pulse of that in our community. And so it's beyond a specific group.

- Commissioner Sonya Fischer

Yes, I tend to anticipate that if people perceive a threat that is actually confirmed to be a threat that there just might be a little unrest if the authorities refuse to take any steps to address it.

UPDATE: In the meantime, Oregon's catch-and-release policy for Antifa arsonists doesn't appear to be working very well.

Portland police arrested a man for starting a fire with a molotov cocktail and released him, only to take him into custody again the next day for allegedly setting six more fires. Domingo Lopez Jr., 45, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on Sunday evening after police discovered a blaze set on the side of a freeway. A witness identified the suspect, who admitted to police that he’d set the fire.

So a rural revolt? They might as well at this point, even with a media trying their darnedest to make sure the rural areas lose the moral level of war. Beats losing everything to arson.

Blogger Crunchy Cachalot September 14, 2020 6:02 PM

Anyone shocked that it's "Sonya Fischer" who's concerned about "the perception of a threat" by, I presume, "right wing nutjobs", is the actual problem, that it's "beyond a specific group"? Of course you're not.

Most of my family lives in Molalla. Many of which are staying with me now since being evacuated.
I can 100% confirm that at least for the Molalla community and the surrounding countryside, residents are taking it upon themselves to patrol, and even create roadblock checkpoints and are asking to see the ID of drivers trying to come in to confirm they live there.

Many of these people also own all sorts of heavy machinery. If some of these "extremist group" people get caught by these patriots, there's a real chance their bodies may never be found.

Blogger Arcane Rhino September 14, 2020 6:19 PM

I moved out of Oregon in 1992, so my information is VERY dated. However, if Molalla is even half as right-wing as it was when I went to high-school in Canby, then Antifa is either unaware or insane to try anything there. We used to joke that we were fair-enough rednecks but people from Molalla were still trying to decide if fire was ok. Outsiders, if white, behaved themselves and non-whites just kept on moving.

I had a friend who was an explorer for the Molalla PD. The police at that time would have helped bury the bodies of any outsiders engaging in the antifa behavior.

I am willing to accept things have really changed, the 1990's were a long time ago, but if not, there will be blood. I will be watching to see if there are arrests or if rioters just suddenly go missing.

And that, boys and girls, is how the 31st state to enter the union became the first state to collapse into sustained insurgency.

Bloody Oregon.

"There could be unrest".
So I take it this is the American version of the British "It would appear they have taken a mild dislike..."
Most of what might have been considered "militia" in Oregon had pretty much gone by around 2014. But it was clear long before that, during the Bush 2 years, that any public front was a liability. The leftist media had long been pushing the "hurrrr durrrr white supremacists in the PNW" garbage.
So if there is any organized defense in Oregon, and if they are sticking to the previously learned lessons, they will get the job done in a manner that will not be heard about nor detectable. There's plenty of fire to go around. I wish them luck.

I tend to anticipate that if people perceive a threat that is actually confirmed to be a threat that there just might be a little unrest if the authorities refuse to take any steps to address it.

Or if one set of authorities undermines whatever steps another set of authorities try to take. A good part of the distrust and dysfunction of our justice system is playing the police off against the rest of the DAs and courts, to make people think something is being done when it isn't.

E.g. police in Oregon arrested a firebug who was immediately released by the Soros DA and set six more fires before being re-arrested.

Ogden Nash wrote about the DHS' greatest fear:
The Boogaloos,
The Boogaloos!
They're living in your underoos!
Their blood is rank and yellowish!
Their voice is hoarse and bellowish!
Their tentacles are slithery,
And scummy,
Slimy,
Leathery!
Their lips are hungry blubbery,
And smacky,
Sucky,
Rubbery!

The Boogaloos,
The Boogaloos!
The greatest threat to mes and yous!
Last night they lurked in Canada;
Tonight, on your veranada!
As you are lolling hammockwise
They contemplates you stomachwise.
You loll,
They contemplate,
They lollops.
The rest is merely gulps and gollops.

If Trump does invoke the Insurrection Act, he needs to not play games. The first arrests should be the Governor of Oregon and the Mayor of Portland. Seize their computers and cell phones INSTANTLY - then ship them to NSA for intelligence exploitation.

Word salad translation: we'd better get the National Guard here before the citizens take care of the problem themselves.

So will the Antifa-friendly governor send the NG to save Antifa? Or will he keep pretending the fires are just happening and let a bunch of arsonists disappear in the ashes?

OT

My side project has taken a great leap forward. We are ready to do micro loans #8 and #9, but that's not the great news. My in-country pastor buddy last week hosted a regional pastor's conference at his church with the focus on evangelism. He has also requested prayer for hundreds of bibles in the local language for those now newly attending church. With a focus on saving the lost and getting the word of God into the hands of new believers I am thrilled the direction God is taking this. Lord Jesus sweep this region of India into the Kingdom of God. Save thousands, no, tens of thousands of souls here I ask in Jesus' name.

Update: I now have commitments for 200 bibles in the Telugu language.

Someone has access to all of the phone and data communications that have been used to set this arson up. It is time to get one of those zillions of new Trump judges to issue some warrants and arrest some public officials, and leak all of the conspiratorial communications.

The Oregon governor will NEVER call in the Guard unless physically forced. She sides with Antifa and is most likely a member.
She's just as corrupt and evil as the previous governor, and she could care less about the people or their safety. But the voting in Oregon has been rigged for over two decades now and it's not about to change (I used to live there).

Blogger Hammerli 280 September 14, 2020 8:35 PM

After watching the Dems try to deal with Hurricane Katrina, I became convinced that in the event of a major natural disaster, the first order of business for the Federal authorities was to find the top Dem or two...and shoot them out of hand.

Because their incompetence had magnified the disaster, their corruption would make recovery harder if not impossible.

The same is clearly true for civil unrest.

Blogger Damelon Brinn September 14, 2020 8:43 PM

Is this for real? Chainsaws?

They were cutting part of the way through electric poles, hoping the wind would break them off later after they were gone. Judging by the cuts, it wasn't done by anyone with much woodcutting experience.

Blogger BrentG September 14, 2020 8:44 PM

Smoke is still thick, wind isn't blowing and it is deathly quiet outside. I can usually hear the freeway, but nothing now and for the past few days. Not even hearing the birds chirping. A few work mates had to evacuate with very short notice and weren't prepared.

Take this as a warning and make sure you can grab everything you need for your family to be out of your house for 3-7 days, even if you plan on bugging in. There are a lot of lists out there you can customize to suit. And then practice until everyone knows their jobs well.

Blogger Jack Amok September 14, 2020 9:39 PM

Yes, the part about using chainsaws to sabotage power poles is very real. Snohomish is northeast of Seattle, part of the rural, right-leaning areas outside of Seattle, just like Clackamas is the rural, right-leaning area outside of Portland.

We lived in Estacada for 8 years. Ive been following their neighborhood watch page closely. Mollala, estacada, mulino, etc, are all hard core redneck logging and farming towns with a hippie twist who have been invaded by Portland commuters over the last 20 yrs or so. Most of oregon is like a pot head version of Wyoming culture. I have noticed the anti-gun pants wetters have more or less quieted down. One of them even announced she was creating her own left wing neighborhood watch page bc she felt the group had become hostile. The tone has changed and become very bard right. They all know Portland is the problem and they are doing armed patrols, blocking neighborhood access and stopping or following unfamiliar vehicles. I am glad to see it. They know they are on their own. Portland and the state of Oregon hates them. They even wanted to tax well water usage at one point.

So will the Antifa-friendly governor send the NG to save Antifa?

The fact that we now have to ask this rhetorical question seriously, and not as a joke, indicates that we've added "Banana" in front of the "republic" description of our form of government and that we've also now joined the rest of the Third World.

Blogger kurt9 September 14, 2020 10:34 PM

I live in the Portland area. Portland itself is liberal-left. The rest of the area most certainly is not. The fires are declining now. The smoke was not as bad today as its been since Friday (Saturday was the worse). The weather is cooling off as well.

For what I'm seeing in the news, there are now nine arsonists that have been caught setting fires, including the guy Vox mentions. They seem to be homeless, druggie types rather than overtly political antifa types. Some of these people are clearly mentally ill, which might also account for the "copy cat" effect of starting fires.

Clackamas may not be as conservative as it was in '92. But its still quite conservative. If antifa types do get caught starting fires by locals, I would not be surprised if they just disappeared and no news story comes out about it.

When there is a person, there is a problem. No person, no problem.

it's a long ways past time to be cutting trees back from your homes, for all of you in the dry parts of the Left Coast. on the flat, 50 is probably enough if you're prepared to hose the roof down. if you're on a slope, clearing 100 feet below you is a bare minimum. sometimes the flames get taller than that when the fire is coming up the mountain.

and the underbrush and dead wood needs cleaned out further than that.

California has been periodically having crazy fires pretty much my whole life. it boggles my mind that homeowners haven't figured out basic forest husbandry yet.

YT-er Akkad Daily has been posting videos discussing how the tactics used by these various groups follow pretty much the pattern explained by Yuri Bezmenov in a video that has been passed around the Internets so often it's becoming grainy and foggy! (e.g. "Destabilisation" https://youtu.be/InOrokQ2eJU ).
Yesterday, Dr. Gary North posted a video of The Creature from Jekyll Island (1994) author G. Edward Griffin talking about Communist destabilisation methods: "We mustn't kid ourselves into thinking that the Communists have placed their agitators only in the black community: they're working both sides of the street. They want hatred, violence and bloodshed between the races and they don't care how they get it or whom they use." https://www.garynorth.com/public/21316.cfm
Just a coincidence that these methods sound so familiar, isn't it? Of course, BLM aren't communists, and anyway didn't I hear that the Berlin Wall came down and the Soviet Union is no more? So all this historical stuff is just irrelevant! Oh, wait... https://www.dazeddigital.com/politics/article/39587/1/black-lives-matter-founder-interview-patrisse-khan-cullors
