Wikipedia is not science

Forget science. The Covid lockdowns aren't even based on reliable news sources:

No10's scientific advisers relied on dubious data from Wikipedia to help steer Britain through the spring's coronavirus crisis and wrongly predicted the peak of the first wave by two months, an explosive new documentary has claimed.

Members of the Government's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) admitted early virus modelling was based on unverified figures from the online encyclopedia, which can be edited and managed by members of the public.

Tory MP Steve Baker, who has refused to support the Prime Minister’s second lockdown, told MailOnline: ‘Some of those claiming to be “following the science” seem not to understand the meaning of the word.

‘SAGE has been put on a pedestal as if they are able to produce a single version of the truth. It’s not possible.

‘We were given terrifying 500,000 death figures predicted by modelling that was completely flawed and scientists will no longer defend them. It was the same with NHS overcrowding figures – and yet that hasn’t happened.

‘We cannot go on like this any longer. The public deserve better than this. We cannot go on with public policy based on models that clearly didn’t reflect reality’.

One prominent Oxford University scientist told MailOnline using Wikipedia to guide Britain through the crisis was 'absolutely unacceptable', describing it as a 'damning reflection of our lack of preparedness'.

It is beginning to become apparent that not even the Covid-19 conspiracy theorists theorized imaginatively enough. I never thought the science behind the Western lockdowns was sound, but I would have thought they could have found a better excuse than freaking Wikipedia.

Not unlike the fake results of the U.S. presidential election, Covid lockdowns are little more than the result of a social media-created mirage.

To the extent that much of what passes today as "science" is little more than consensus (rather than empirically verified fact), yes, Wikipedia is every bit as scientific as TENS, global warming, most of economics, nearly all of psychology and sociology, and portions of other fields.

If all that's required for those fields to count as "science" are a few fancy letters after a person's name marking academic distinction, then Wikipedia editors are no less qualified to produce science.

Wikipedia was a source of information for our government advisers? Wiki fucking pedia? To say this makes me angry would be a severe understatement. I am also, sad to say, not at all surprised by this news...

From the article: "Professor Ian Hall, deputy chair of the SAGE subgroup SPI-M, said: 'The public may be surprised that we were using Wikipedia to get data very early on in the pandemic, but that was really the only data that was publicly available that we could access.' "

Publicly available. *SIGH*

It was only a national emergency. Surely one of these experts could have called MoD, then Porton Down, to get data on viral transport and contact transfer. Similar situation in the U.S.

It didn't take a coronavirus expert. It takes a competent analyst, with smallpox and common cold as the upper and lower bounds on the problem. An analyst who reads the manuals and source code, and looks at the boundaries of what the model can/should be used for.

We'll be lucky to keep the germ theory of disease.

"It found that NHS hospitals discharged 25,000 people into care homes during the peak of Britain's Covid-19 crisis without testing them for the coronavirus.

The NAO said care homes were overlooked in order to protect the NHS."

That is why we are here. We are all participating in a gathering of truth seekers/tellers who readily admit their mistakes (an honest man will make mistakes but he admits them and adjusts his understanding accordingly) in order to make sense of and navigate through the sea of lies around us for the sake of ourselves, our families, our country, and our civilization all submitted to our God and never to the father of lies, who so many have bowed their knees to.

A few folks have mentioned the pattern of letting the virus run rampant in elder care homes, without testing people or any of the protocols those in charge have declared necessary. (Not that I admit the necessity of the protocols, of course—the inconsistency is simply notable.) The pattern seems indicative—kill off the old, who no longer actively produce for society. In other words, they are no longer materially productive, and therefore they are non-valuable. Who needs to protect non-valuables, right?

Though oddly, the push here in the U.S. seems to be toward vaccinating medical workers and the "at-risk" (which would include the elderly) first. I, for one, am among the cohort that tends to guess that the vaccine will cause deaths, not prevent them. Given that, I have to wonder: Why vaccinate healthcare workers, except to cripple the healthcare system? Kill the old people, then remove the ability of those who are still productive to get care for the whole panoply of far more dangerous problems than the Kung Flu, by removing the caregivers.

It would seem that is one more step toward centralizing the factors of production in the state. Marxism never abolishes the state, merely enlarges it to gross proportions.

Bride has a positive COVID test. She is locked in the basement for 10 days. I lost my sense of smell, and was hiking all over the hills of Missouri hunting. I got a negative test.

So now we are in isolation for 14 days. Here is the kicker. It had to come from me. I wear masks at work all the time (not my N100 respirator, as that is non compliant according to the HR Karens). So I had to wear the face diaper.

The mask mandate is beyond stupid. If you don't wear it correctly, or have the wrong one (as I was made to wear as a condition of employment), then it does nothing. Same with the lock downs. Quarantine doesn't work UNLESS you lock EVERYONE down. Once the bug is endemic, you are going to burn out the susceptible people.

I have buried three family members recently who had covid. One was going to die anyway, the other two were a shock. However my 90 year old aunt has it, and my uncle is locking the tractor so she doesn't go disc the field.

We are until 2nd December in lockdown 2. There is a massive difference between the two lockdowns. In the first the streets were silent, Tescos - which remained open - controlled precisely how many people might be in the store at any one time and once inside one had to follow an Ikea-style floor-plan. This time the streets are busy and there are no restrictions at Tesco, and so far as I can see even the six feet rule is ignored. We have to wear the masks and do so, in order not to appear better than our neighbour; I have acquired a plastic see-through mask which enables me to breath.

The pandemic is the new global warming.

Its the new hyperinflation/global economic depression preparatory to, and laying the groundwork for, the next sweeping revolution in the liberal imperialist global order. This is the polarizing 1930's redux, where the stable middle class is squeezed then ruined, driving the population into two camps as they angrily look for a reason for their suffering. It takes time to do this and its pretty early - they're not willing to turn the credit system off yet, but it will go fast if they do.

This new corporate political alliance to "erase hate" which generally means "erase the right" will probably result in the right running to a strong man. No, Trump is not the Strong Man, he is the last alternative to the Strong Man though, maybe the rough equivalent to General Schleicher.

But for sweeping changes to take place, and indeed their plan is to have us all begging for them to BB's point, stability must first be removed. I think the pandemic has failed to produce thus far in that regard, but the 2ndary effect of economic ruin is chugging right along.

All IMO, of course.

Blogger OMGDwayne November 19, 2020 10:33 AM

You mean the old people who net the companies who own the care homes £1000 per week, per head? You are talking about those old people, right? The tens of thousands whose life savings and assets are being siphoned away from their natural beneficiaries into the hands of shady multinationals who want their care homes full and functioning to milk as much profit as possible from human decrepitude and misery. Those old people? The ones who the government is planning to inoculate first of all, as an extreme priority? In hindsight covid wasn't the world ending plague social media predicted it would be.

What was up with the videos of Chinese hospitals hallways full of the dead, and people panicking? What about the stories from front line hospital workers losing their minds describing the awful deaths they could do nothing to stop and impossible working conditions? How about the videos of people standing around and suddenly collapsing in pools of blood. How about the videos of Chinese people using nails and wood to trap people in their apartments? The video of the Chinese government spraying an entire city with disinfectant? Photos of entire cities having all roads in and out destroyed and concrete barriers going up? Checkpoints, government masked men dragging chinese people into vans?

It's like covid was the world ending plague we witnessed it to be, and then in February or March it became harmless.

But that would require a literal divine intervention from God. So now we're left looking back wondering why the Chinese government and it's own citizens faked a world ending pandemic on social media.

And the Chinese economy is doing fine and they are having events in stadiums too.
Just spitballing, but it occurs to me that China was a good place to start it off, plenty of opportunities to "leak" scary videos as China is behind the Great Firewall and its harder to verify and the longest time anticipating the plague arriving.

Now, China doesn't need economic collapse or lockdowns or silly mask rules because China is already at the stage the lockdowns and collapse are intended to get the rest of us to.

If it got Biden elected, it would have all been worth it. That's short term pain for long term gain, and that's totally in line with their practice.

Also consider that Trump's tariffs were starting to hurt their economy. If factories were going to shut down, better to blame it on the Chinkypox than on their inability to bribe Trump.

There was never any downside to killing millions of their own, so once the disease became a thing, it made sense to look for ways to use it to maintain their power. Making sure that millions died at home meant millions fewer trouble makers, making sure that many died overseas meant weaker enemies, making sure that CCP agents in foreign governments cultivated panic and financial ruin iced the cake, for the CCP and for the globohomo faction who used Chinkypox to increase their power.

That's called "empty and throw away." In the long run, it's better to have a bottle that refills itself than one that can only be filled once. Get rid of the old people so that the government doesn't have to keep supporting them and then enslave the rest of us so that they maximize the gain from healthy people—then knock us out once we get too old.

Not saying that's the only game being played, but it's a whole heck of a lot more profitable to cull the population down to a group of younger slaves so that the old, non-productive folks quit draining resources. Better return on investment, y'know.

Other part of that game, I think, is more generally to reduce population. So, get rid of the old folks faster and save money on their support (while siphoning their funds via hiked-up estate taxes and inheritance taxes).

More directly, it actually does fit with how a lot of defense people view the Chinese military and government. To contrast:

The Russians will carefully and methodically infiltrate to get exactly the thing they want.

The Chinese just break in and smash and grab everything, just figuring they'll find a use for it sometime later.

Good tactically but short sighted in strategy is probably a fair summary, at least if you buy that characterization.

Being intelligent, but not properly connected to the ruling regime has always been a lethal danger for the Chinese. Tallest blades of grass get the most whacked away. China's reputation for producing exceptional planners is overrated to the point of irrational. They may be patient -- willing to spend generations to infiltrate and subvert so as to quietly achieve a military or political goal, but that's not an indicator of high intelligence so much as it is the typical Chinese traits of sneakiness and a predelection for fraud and theft over the hard work of investigation, discovery, invention and personal industriousness of building something for oneself (while the Chinese have built many things taking lots of effort, the people doing the actual construction were usually slaves who rarely had a choice about their own participation in these projects)
