They really are after you

What do I have in common with Maria Conchita Alonso? Well, we're both Hispanic, but she's of Cuban and Venezuelan descent while I am the great-grandson of a Mexican revolutionary. What we have in common is that we've both been professionally attacked by our left-wing peers for our political beliefs that they deem objectionable.
The actress was to perform next month at the Brava Theater Center in San Francisco’s Mission District in a Spanish-language version of “The Vagina Monologues,” scheduled for a run from February 14th through 17th. The show is being produced by none other than Eliana Lopez, wife of San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi.

“We really cannot have her in the show, unfortunately,” Lopez told KPIX 5. She said Alonso abruptly resigned from the cast on Friday, given the backlash on the immigration issue.

“Of course she has the right to say whatever she wants. But we’re in the middle of the Mission. Doing what she is doing is against what we believe,” Lopez said.
The Left is after you. They don't want you to be able to work. They will destroy your occupation if they are able. They will reject you, they will refuse to hire you, they will hold the gates against you if they can, and if you somehow manage to get past the gatekeepers, they will expel you if they can.

Keep that in mind every time you're tempted to buy a book from someone like Steven Gould or a DVD from someone like Joss Whedon. Are you really going to support the Left when they are actively doing their best to attack your beliefs and the beliefs of people like you? Like it or not, you are in a cultural war.

And it's not just the actresses and authors that are affected. The Left has been infiltrating your corporations and your organizations with an eye to taking them over for decades. They can't create, they can't build, so like the parasites they are, they have to invade the institutions built by the Right.

You can do whatever you like. I'm simply pointing out that if you want more Left, support the Left. And if you want more Right, support the Right. They get it. Too often, we don't and pride ourselves on being willing to buy the rope with which they intend to hang us.

Another way of putting it is that the right does not need the left. But the left needs (the productivity of) the right.

The problem seems to be that capitalists largely don't care for capitalism. The freer a market is, the more competition, the lower profit margins are, the harder their job tends to be.

So naturally, most self centered businessmen who don't understand the broader scope of their actions (and many who do), are going to prefer getting some sort of advantage for themselves to carve out higher profits. Naturally and usually, from government.

Seems almost like a positive feedback system, that inevitably corrupts and falls off the rails. Perhaps civilization really is unnatural, and self destructing, in the long run. History certainly seems to point to that conclusion.

Perhaps when Khrushchev said the capitalists would sell us the rope they hung us with, it was the one of the few parts of history and human nature they did get right.

Anonymous lozozlo January 18, 2014 5:46 PM

@Catan

Yeah...while socialism fails horribly for many reasons well-known to (just about) everyone here...capitalism also tends to fail for the reasons above...are there any real world examples of capitalism that did not in fairly short order (by historical standards) degenerate into some sort of crony-capitalism or apitalism-for-the-middle-class/socialism-for-the-poor-and-rich scheme?

The American "right" made a huge mistake by abandoning its populist tendencies a few decades ago in favor of corporatist-friendly policies and laws. Problem is, modern corporations are not "conservative" in the cultural sense, and many are actively corrosive to the survival of conservatism and conservative cultures.

But they can count on their good little useful idiots in the GOP to carry their water for them no matter what. Hollywood can openly mock American conservatives TO THEIR FACES, and the GOP does nothing but flop all over itself to hyperextend copyright terms (or similar things) to ensure that Harvey Weinstein et. al. have more money to finance more and more fusillades against the very GOP who helped them out.

At a certain point, it's hard to even pin the "blame" on those sorts of liberals, when their "opposition" is such a pathetic set of sycophants. They sock the GOP in the face. The GOP apologizes to them for putting its face in the path of their fist, and offers to pay them for their troubles...

Each election cycle the GOP appeals to social conservatives for votes. Once elected the payoff goes to the business conservatives in the form of taxcuts, free trade agreements and no enforcement of labor laws; and to the foreign policy conservatives in the form of more aggressive posturing and unquestioning support for a certain little ME nation.

The social conservatives, whose votes put them in office, get nada.

i agree wholeheartedly but find it difficult sometimes 'fund' the performer despite their politics. i like some of george clooney's movies and his personality despite having trouble with him being a stooge of the administration and a big supporter of lefty causes.

however, i stopped watching tv because i did not want to fund the immoral bbc through their oppressive licence fee. the best decision i ever made as i find myself watching very little of even the catchup services. dont miss it at all and it is amusing to me when friends enquire how i am coping without a tv.they see it as a deprivation when it is in fact liberation from brainwashing and zombification.

Using Hispanic as a catch-all term for Mexicans is a mistake. They consider themselves apart from other Hispanics. They are Chicanos, and their Mexican supremacism trumps all ties to other Hispanic ethnonationalities. South American immigrants to the US, except for Brazil, are mostly white. Its not surprising to see them attacked the moment they dont support racial socialism. And the Aztlan/MEChA crowd are indeed Nazis. Jose Vasconcelos, the Mexican intellectual who came up with the "La Raza" doctrine, was in fact a Nazi sympathizer. Its been argued that his anti-Anglo sentiments are from what the US and UK did to poor Hitler.

Good call.

One question I have to all: are there any media forms/services that you can spend money on today without helping out the left (outside of a few featured on this blog like Tom Kratman).

It seems that netflix, hulu, any DVD that buy, etc will all go to support the left. Probably the same holds true for video games as well(maybe not ones from foreign countries like Japan maybe but what do I know...)

It's fun sometimes but occasionally, one will make an off-color comment about Repubs/Dems/Catholics being the cause of all our ills and how much our society would benefit without their imaginary enemies. Some come in bitching against gun rights, others want more ACA... Most aren't sophisticated enough to understand or even listen to a blurb about the bifactional ruling party, but one thing's true--they will go to no end to get you fired if you disagree--even going so far as writing letters to the CEO. Hell, in my line of work, it's better just to nod along or pretend to listen lest the PC director fire me for proselytizing.

Would figure that unless "skip this ad" actually tells YT that the ad really wasn't watched, it signals that the viewer will still come back even when they're inconvenienced by a left nut to the face before enjoying a video.

Also take note of the articles here the past few months re: ideology trumping profit.

Anonymous kh123 January 18, 2014 8:03 PM

Television is an activity for the lower intellectual classes - like the Roman Games or Victorian burlesque shows. We should all treat it as such; anyone who considers themselves to be of a better sort of intellectual class (which means all of the Neo-Reactionary and libertarian movements) should think of watching television the way we'd think of drinking Olde English 800 or going to a dwarf tossing contest. Any person with a shred of self-respect should be mortified at the prospect of being caught doing that.

I do keep a set in my abode, disconnected from cable or antenna and connected to an XBMC box, on which I sometimes play select movies, anime, and, of course, professional wrestling (without a working knowledge of which, an understanding of the American political system is impossible to achieve). But actual television? No. On the rare occasion that I'm subjected to it while out visiting, I marvel at the fact that it somehow manages to be even worse than I remembered it last time - it was brain-melting crap when Paddy Cheyefsky wrote Network in the 1970s, and it's gone downhill from there. I don't watch television for the same reason I don't eat at McDonalds - let the plebs scarf down the crap until it clogs their arteries/synapses. I'm above it putting that crap into my system.

I'll write an extended column on this later, but it's time for those on the right to follow the Leary Strategem: Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out. The "Drop Out" list is significantly longer than the others, with popular culture - and most especially television - at the top of the list.

Hispanic. So that's the "color".

"Spaniard or Mestizo?"

Spaniards aren't colored.

Old joke...

Q: When does a Mexican become a Spaniard?
A: When he marries into your family.

"Is Google an exception? They seem pretty creative, pretty leftist, and were never an institution built by the right. (I hate Google.)"

The folks who operated the dodge-Google's-rape-of-your-online-privacy search engine Scroogle (until Google's programmers closed them out) have more than a bit to say about Google:

Same with www.duckduckgo.com (here's their brief say on Google):

"Vox speaks of "The Left" as if it's one large organism made up of individuals who are all in complete accord."

You make a valid point, but I think most here view the "left" as encompassing that vast group of people who have a rather shallow naïve view of the world and who choose to punish anyone who doesn't share it.

Blogger Tommy Hass January 19, 2014 9:46 AM

"At a certain point, it's hard to even pin the "blame" on those sorts of liberals, when their "opposition" is such a pathetic set of sycophants. They sock the GOP in the face. The GOP apologizes to them for putting its face in the path of their fist, and offers to pay them for their troubles..."

Hahaha

"Vox speaks of "The Left" as if it's one large organism made up of individuals who are all in complete accord."

WTF? What is *any* political movement if not an organism made up of individuals who are in accord with each other? This is part of the shell game of the left; a variant of Garet Garrett's "complex of fear and vaunting" - when asked, the left will sometimes declare itself on the brink of total victory, and sometimes declare that it is so powerless as to barely even exist. It will in turn vaunt, and deny, control of the media, the schools, and the bureaucracy. And all it is is proof that the left will *never* be honest about anything.

Sorry, it's not 1939, you aren't Tom Joad, and you can't get away with trying to say that you're "everywhere and nowhere" anymore.

As for minor doctrinal differences between different varieties of leftists, I don't give a damn about them any more than an atheist gives a damn about the doctrinal differences between Anglicans and Presbyterians, and for the same reason. If it's all just a bunch of bullshit, why would I care about the relatively-minor variations between one sort of it and another?

@Beau

You still holding the prayer services on tuesday and taking/continuing the Ilk prayer requests?

Anonymous Anti-Democracy Activist January 19, 2014 1:43 PM

"One side or another will win. This cannot be a draw."

Yup. This is what the American Conservative/National Review/Glenn Beck/Republican Party sorts of "conservatives" have yet to wake up to. The time for gentlemanly disagreement among those who assume good faith, honesty, and honorable intentions from each other is over. Oh-ver. The left has shown us its true face over the last couple of years, and it is now obvious to every non-delusional person that treating them this way is naive - that it is weakness, cowardice, and denial of who they really are, what they really want, and what is really happening. They are either at your feet or at your throat - there is no in-between.

This is a hard pill to swallow for people whose nature is to *want* to be reasonable, to negotiate, to make deals, to shake hands, agree to disagree, and part as friends. But life teaches us that there really are some people who can't be negotiated with, who will never keep a deal, and who will interpret any desire to be reasonable on your part as a weakness that they can exploit in order to run roughshod over you. No decent person likes to slam the door in somebody's face without so much as a "hello"; but there are some people with whom that is the only rational response.

Vox,

Keep that in mind every time you're tempted to buy a book from someone like Steven Gould or a DVD from someone like Joss Whedon.

I think you're taking "Buffy" way too seriously. I love the show, but I don't read anything political into it. Sometimes a show is just a show, just like a cigar is often a cigar.

Blogger RobertT January 19, 2014 3:50 PM

Does this mean we can fire liberals? Or does this just work on conservatives? Just wondering .. just in case ...

Anonymous Jimmy January 19, 2014 4:10 PM

The Left can eat its own. I wonder if this is the case.

Anonymous Titus Didius Tacitus January 19, 2014 6:06 PM

From Jimmy's link: "A recent college graduate and aide to Colorado state Senator Irene Aguilar was fired from his job because he visited the office of a friend who worked for a Republican."

This is why entryism is a one way street. (Not that Irene Aguilar was an entryist, but when even being suspected of cross-party friendships can be a firing offense, rightists and even easy-going tolerant people cannot enter organizations of the left except under deep cover, which is the point.) And that is why it insane to accept left infiltrators, as though this was just a matter of individuals making choices.

I think that this demonstrates Vox's point ... it also demonstrates that leftist/progressive aggression is being cranked up. No fear of being called to account ... no hiding and attacking from the shadows ... no reservations of vulgar rhetoric.

As for the erstwhile Governor of the formerly great state of New York, I have only one thing to say:

Andrew, a sienta me! Tu sei proprio sfacime!

Anonymous Anti-Democracy Activist January 19, 2014 10:18 PM

P.S. The "conservative" movement failed the day that it threw Joe McCarthy under the bus. That act of cowardice and fratricide gave the left the key to the institutions - which they used to open the doors to themselves, and then slam them shut behind them so that no one else would ever get in.

Then again, with the possible exception of Jonestown or Heaven's Gate, I have never in my life seen a movement as enthusiastically hellbent on self-destruction as mainstream American conservatism.

And looking at his career POST that film, you have to wonder if he wasn't marked for it.
