SJWs hate science too

One of the most important things to understand about SJWs is that there is no end game for them. They exist to complain; if you submit to their demands and give them what they claim to want, they will promptly produce new and even more ridiculous demands. They are salami-slicers, which is why you cannot give into even the most reasonable-sounding, polite requests for fairness and justice and appeals to your better nature and human decency.

Doing so will only signify your weakness, which will cause them to make every more insane demands in ever-more demanding ways. The only thing that is important to them is their pinkshirt agenda. Consider the SJW response to the historic news that the European Space Agency landed a spacecraft on a comet earlier this week:
I don't care if you landed a spacecraft on a comet, your shirt is sexist and ostracizing. That's one small step for man, three steps back for humankind.

Yesterday the European Space Agency landed the Philae spacecraft on a comet, a powerful step forward for humanity and science alike. However, slightly before the big moment, coverage of the event reminded us how much progress remains to be accomplished back on Earth.

A number of the scientists involved on this incredible project were interviewed in the hours leading to contact by Nature Newsteam. One of those Rosetta scientists was Matt Taylor, who chose to dress, for this special occasion, in a bowling shirt covered in scantly clad caricatures of sexy women in provocative poses.

"This is going to be a very long day but a very exciting day," said Taylor. "I think everyone should enjoy it because we're making history."

No one knows why Taylor chose to wear that shirt on television during a massive scientific mission. From what we can tell, a woman who goes by the name of Elly Prizeman on Twitter made the shirt for him, and is just as bewildered as he must be that anyone might be upset about her creation. But none of that actually matters. What matters is the fact that no one at ESA saw fit to stop him from representing the Space community with clothing that demeans 50 percent of the world's population. No one asked him to take it off, because presumably they didn't think about it. It wasn't worth worrying about.

This is the sort of casual misogyny that stops women from entering certain scientific fields. They see a guy like that on TV and they don't feel welcome. They see a poster of greased up women in a colleague's office and they know they aren't respected. They hear comments about "bitches" while out at a bar with fellow science students, and they decide to change majors. And those are the women who actually make it that far. Those are the few who persevered even when they were discouraged from pursuing degrees in physics, chemistry, and math throughout high school. These are the women who forged on despite the fact that they were told by elementary school classmates and the media at large that girls who like science are nerdy and unattractive. This is the climate women who dream of working at NASA or the ESA come up against, every single day.
That is the mentality that we're dealing with in #GamerGate. What is significant about #GamerGate is that it represents the first time that a male-dominated community has stood up and collectively said: FUCK OFF to the SJWs utilizing their conventional entryist tactics. The hardcore gamers of #GamerGate would rather be attacked and publicly portrayed as evil, outdated, sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, death threat-issuing, blood-drinking, serial-killing rapists than give another inch to the SJWs attempting to infiltrate and destroy the game industry.

And that's why you should support #GamerGate even if you don't play games. That's why you should learn from #GamerGate's staunch refusal to back down, its tactics, and its willingness to go on the relentless offensive against the pinkshirts.

They are the incarnation of Dickson's fictional Chantry Guild. They will cast aside everything, games, books, tradition, religion, science, Western civilization itself, without hesitation, because they simply do not understand the intrinsic relationship between cause and effect.

How horrible it must be to consider the character of people in a field and not your passion for the field itself. Maybe this is some aspect of female professional consideration that I just haven't given enough weight to. Are sexist guys throwing themselves at females so much now that women have to give equal weight to the character of those in the field vs. their passion for the subject? Most professionals I've ever known in STEM gave subject interest about a 10 and their fellow classmates/professionals about a 1 on the scale of importance. So the guy wears a loud shirt with girls on it. You're going to allow THAT to stop you from entering a field?

one of the words that has dropped off the radar is "malcontents". Lexicographic topology is a precrime indicator.

or: be grateful and shut the f ,,,,,,,,,,, up.

One of the most repugnant, pig ignorant things any SJW hero has spouted in recent days is the "check your privilege".

It isn't privilege if it was humbly gotten by blood sweat tears and years of sacrifice: It's reward for a work ethic, responsibility, independence, sacrifice and ingenuity.

And if parents get to leave anything to their children its providence and good management.

They are evil Vox. As in Islam is evil because it is wrong and wrong because it is evil. That's a statement of moral, ethical discernment without the slightest reference to human merit.

Especially since she's sure to have turned on him already:

Why did the woman who ran the interview not show some professionalism and offer the guy a jacket if it was going to be such an issue?

Rush Limbaugh's rule of modern journalism: A journalist makes it by going out and destroying somebody else.

If it's an issue, the reporterette in the picture should be fired. The guy did nothing wrong - he is a hero of mankind for doing the impossible; this shirt was a known quantity.

In fact, if I have a spare $80, I think I'll buy one of those "Aloha Gunner Girls" shirts.

Anonymous Mike M. November 14, 2014 8:34 AM

I would not be surprised to find that Matt Taylor is a gamer...and wore that shirt quite deliberately as a very public poke in the eye to the SJWs.

Space exploration is not for the timid.

Anonymous MrGreenMan November 14, 2014 8:37 AM

I'd rather have the known quantity of a guy who can land a probe on a comet, because I have no way to quantify what mankind would or wouldn't get from these women who are so easily dissuaded from science.

How will the young female doctoral candidate take having her paper representing two years of her life rejected for petty reasons if a man using the word "bitch" at a bar makes her leave science?

Let's remember this next time we hear that women are qualified to be combat soldiers. Sure, a t-shirt, a poster, a casual comment might discourage them from doing science, but frothing-at-the-mouth woman-hating zealots trying to kill them won't discourage them from doing combat.

Those are the few who persevered even when they were discouraged from pursuing degrees in physics, chemistry, and math throughout high school.

DrTorch is right. They tried physics, chem, and math, found it too hard or too boring, and figured it must be because someone discouraged them.

These are the women who forged on despite the fact that they were told by elementary school classmates and the media at large that girls who like science are nerdy and unattractive.

Stickwick,

DrTorch is right. They tried physics, chem, and math, found it too hard or too boring, and figured it must be because someone discouraged them.

I once encountered someone who claimed that physics really needs more women, but the problem is there's way too much of a masculine emphasis on performance and agility with math and such, and that the reason there are still outstanding problems in the field is probably because said problems need a more emotional and feminine approach most likely.

"And that's why you should support #GamerGate even if you don't play games."

Yes that's why.

Social justice warriors are kleptoparasite mimics. They are no more inherently reasonable and limited in their demands than fleas. Making concessions to fleas anywhere just gets you more and bigger and more aggressive fleas.

It's not about give-and-take, fairness or being nicer to get along better. It's about realizing that what the fleas want is blood, and what you want is not to be flea-bitten.

This is an attritional kind of struggle. There are no maneuvers. There is no benefit to giving way here in the hope of gaining more momentum there. Every institution that gets taken over by the social justice warriors is a negative, and every time they are rebuffed is a positive. It doesn't matter where they are beaten, it only matters that they are beaten.

The gamers' attitude is fine: "leave me alone; I want to design / sell / buy / play my game!"

That's all that's needed to motivate a conflict in which social justice warriors will be beaten, with benefits to everyone who wants to be left alone.

I'm guessing this person was not a scientist. Even the most feminine female scientist I know wouldn't say something like this.

Meanwhile, as all the attention is focused on a shirt, there's an ominous element to this whole comet thing that everyone is completely overlooking. I'm surprised Markku hasn't commented on it. The original comet ESA was going to land on was Wirtanen, but they scrapped that in favor of a SOVIET comet. Coincidence? I think not. The shirt issue is a ploy to distract people. Ayn Rand - You who’re depraved enough to believe that you could adjust yourself to a mystic’s dictatorship and could please him by obeying his orders—there is no way to please him; when you obey, he will reverse his orders; he seeks obedience for the sake of obedience and destruction for the sake of destruction. You who are craven enough to believe that you can make terms with a mystic by giving in to his extortions—there is no way to buy him off, the bribe he wants is your life, as slowly or as fast as you are willing to give it in—and the monster he seeks to bribe is the hidden blank-out in his mind, which drives him to kill in order not to learn that the death he desires is his own.

I thought extraterrestrial bodies are international bodies until someone touches them (i.e. The US claimed the moon because they were there first). Is that not true?

Actually, the Outer Space Treaty (to which the US is a signatory) states, in part: "outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outer_Space_Treaty

The U.S. didn't "claim" the moon (except vaguely, and the name of "all Mankind".) The U.S. planted a flag, which was beautifully symbolic, and one of the world's most expensive propaganda photo ops :-) but never advanced any real claim.

Plus, in the history of the world, a lot of people have planted flags and advanced claims to a lot of places, but continuous occupation/colonization, and the ability to defend the claim, are what make such claims stick. The U.S. has no such claim to the Moon.

The current lack of sovereignty and enforceable property rights off Earth is a major obstacle to commerical activities in space beyond transport and communication. Perhaps you remember the 2nd- or 3rd-tier Chinese space official who made public remarks to a journalist about China's plans to mine the Moon and asteroids - and promptly disappeared (probably to a satellite relay station in western Xinjiang).

Of course, any signatory nation can abrogate their treaty obligations by giving the other signatories one year's notice of intention to withdraw.

The day the first signatory announces such will be the first day of a very interesting period in the Solar system.

If you're interested (beyond the Wikipedia article) Glenn Reynolds/Instapundit has written some good stuff about this in his capacity as an legal scholar AND space exploration enthusiast.

Because there is no 'fair' in this context. A man is not allowed to wear such a shirt, period, because sexism. But a woman wearing the same shirt in the same setting would not be given the same label. She may be criticized for her taste, but would not be called 'sexist' and cajoled into apologizing for it.

They exist to complain; if you submit to their demands and give them what they claim to want, they will promptly produce new and even more ridiculous demands.

Case in point: http://www.tor.com/blogs/2010/08/heinlein-forward-looking-diversity-advocate-or-sexist-bigot-yes

"(Tor quoting Heinlein) 'You may run into an editor who does not want one of the young heroes to be Jewish. I will not do business with such a firm. The ancestry of the three boys is a “must” and the book is offered under those conditions. My interest was aroused in this book by the opportunity to show to kids what I conceive to be Americanism. The use of a diverse group . . . is part of my intent; it must not be changed. . . . I am as disinterested as a referee but I want to get over an object lesson in practical democracy.'

(Tor says) This is all admirable, but let’s keep in mind what’s missing from this cast: Asians; disabled people; non-Americans of any kind; lesbians, gays, and the transgendered; Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, or representatives of the other major world religions."

Yesss, preciousss.... The Left is not satisfied that Heinlein stormed the breach for them, being the first science fiction writer to put a Jew, a Filipino (Mr Rico, STARSHIP TROOPER), a Negro (Rod Walker TUNNEL IN THE SKY) a Mohammedan (Stinky STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND) or a Maori girl (Podkayne) in the spotlight as a main hero, but then criticizes him for not having a transgendered Hindu as a main character.

I thought it was the complete and utter lack of interest for grappling with higher math and esoteric concepts that have nothing to do with the woman's own personal feelings, opinions and biases.

There is a very, very good reason for this. The hardcore gamers are (for the most part) the outcasts already - they know that they're outcasts. They've spent their whole lives dealing with the fact that they have poor social skills (many, if not most, are Aspies), that they're not wanted in "polite" spaces. So they created their own. They got out, made their own space and said, "fine, this is our place." If they cede ground to the SJWs on this, they literally have nowhere else to go.

As successful as their tactics have been in the past, the SJWs forgot a major tenant of strategy: always leave your enemy a way out. They left the gamers nowhere else to go, and now, backs to the wall, they're fighting with everything they've got.

Anonymous Steve November 14, 2014 12:12 PM

John Wright - I just had a 'Troll 2' sort of revelation.

Tor is 'rot' spelled backwards!

They will never forgive Heinlein for being brilliant. The continued popularity of his work is a persistent mocking reminder of the inadequacy of their own writing.

Starship Troopers is 55 years old next month, but it's still in print, still influential, still appears on lists of SF fans' favourite works.

Who will remember the SJW writers and their gay dinosaur were-seal fiction 55 years from now? Or even 15 years from now?

They are dust bunnies in the wind. It doesn't matter how many awards they give each other or how many tweets they send congratulating each other for being brilliant and amaaaazing... not so deep down they know that they are frauds.

And that is why, though he passed away more than two decades ago, they can't stop scratching that Heinlein-shaped bruise on their brittle, flaky egos.

Anonymous WaterBoy November 14, 2014 12:14 PM

So...given that (for the sake of argument):
- Sexism turns women away from career choices
- Sexism is evident in every field from Science to Medicine to Business
- Women still choose to go into these other fields anyway

...why does it seem to be only STEM where women in such large numbers are so loath to face the sexism?

Could it be there's another reason besides scantily-clad women on shirts?

Topless feminists target 'political' Pope

Femen, the women's rights group known for topless protests, took their act to a new level of provocation on Friday with an explicitly sexually suggestive demonstration in front of the Vatican.

In what they described as a protest over Pope Francis's upcoming visit to the European Parliament, three members of the group appeared on St Peter's square wearing only leather mini-skirts and flower garlands in their hair.

Two of them had "Keep it Inside" written on their backs - a slogan apparently related to what followed.

After bending forward, the women dropped down on to all fours, all the time appearing to simulate anal sex with a crucifix.

Police quickly intervened to drag the women away as bemused onlooking tourists snapped the scene with their smartphones.

@Steve

I think you have hit the nail on the head. However, a sense of capitalist loyalty to my paying customers requires me to state that not everyone at Tor books is akin to the freakish and gormless Mr Walsh. My editor went to bat for me, and, despite a poor sales record, convinced the higher ups at Tor to buy my next two novels in my COUNT TO A TRILLION series.

I am very grateful to him, and them, and I hope to have socialist injustice whiners (or whatever they will be calling themselves then) whimpering and kvetching about my writing in fifty years myself.

But why the freakish Mr. Walsh is still employed at a firm that sells science fiction, if he cannot see the role that Bob Heinlein played singlehandedly in making our ghetto literature mainstream, is beyond me.

Yes, the minorities too. I'd say the same about women and minorities who joined the KGB or the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei.
I'll be frank with you. There's literally zero chance I ever change even one letter of one syllable of one word of one sentence of one Tweet I've made on the subject of feminism, affirmative action, and/or #GamerGate. So you might was well go ahead and remove me, and we'll both go our separate ways with my thanks.
I am not making one concession for #GamerGate. I'll die first. Literally. I have made peace with my existence and I am prepared to die. I'm so absolutely sick of 4chan-numbed males, cowed and self-righteous internalization queens, their grandfathered-in media strangleholds, their intellectually corrupt tactics and methods, the miserable damage they see no problem inflicting, their fucking bullshit politics (I'm looking at you, Adam Baldwin, you rusty right-wing Nixon-trombonist. So much for me ever watching Firefly again) and the ALL-ENCOMPASSING STUPIDITY about which they remain UTTERLY OBLIVIOUS.

In fact I'm using the suggested punishment fittingly because I honestly and without hesitation think that each and every one of these fucking assholes should be tossed into Treblinka. Right now you're probably gasping and saying "How dare you say such a thing?!"
Well, I'll tell you how. I consider #GamerGate to be a complete disgrace and I'm tired of it. Tired, tired, tired, tired, tired. This is the last straw for me. When Anita Sarkeesian received over $100,000 in donations for her simple project...

GREAT STUFF HERE, BUT SKIPPING TO THE MONEY-SHOT

I hope everyone posting in #GamerGate gets gassed, incinerated, and their tooth fillings melted into a silver/gold WiiMotes for Kim Jong-un and his extended family. I just feel you all should make the same contribution to the furtherance of tyranny and inequality in death that you did in life.

I didn't realize it until I read your comment, but Chris Plante's article is actually quite sexist against women. It assumes that there are no women in scientific fields at present, thus it ignores actual female scientists and marginalizes their achievements while implicitly attributing all scientific achievements to men (most scientific achievements were accomplished by men, of course, but not 100% as Plante's article seems to imply).

Combine this with the fact that he takes it upon himself to speak for women, despite the fact that he isn't one and doesn't really know what motivates their career choices.

All I can say is... wow. Just... wow.

They're so besotted with the power of these labels that they use them more and more, to the point that they have no meaning, no utility, no power whatsoever. I suspect in a few more years pretty much everyone will be inured to the [whatever]-ism labels.

Krul, it's because SJWs tend to suffer from a lack of self-awareness, self-righteousness, and a need for validation, and Plante hit the trifecta. He lacks the self-awareness to realize he's being patronizing toward women (strong, smart, independent women can nevertheless be defeated by shirts covered with attractive women and kryptonite.) He is self-righteous, literally; that is, his sense of right and wrong is no higher than his own feelings and perceptions (hence the "I don't care if you did land a rocket on a comet...") And by putting those two together, he can feel more important than someone who has actual accomplishments (because it's always the quest to feel more important that drives these parasites. The drive to feel important leads one to build; the desire to feel more important leads one to tear down.)

Just look at this clumsy crause troll. This fool offers nothing beyond playground taunts and then fancies itself to be the "adult". Lack of self-awareness--check. The self-righteousness that comes from pretending your opponents are children and have nothing worthwhile to say--check. The desperate need for validation that comes from pounding on the big bad wolf's door and saying "nyah nyah nyah" before running away--check.

I keep waiting for better stuff, but I'm coming to the realization that this is indeed all they have. Some just take more words than others to reveal it.

@ Crause

Ma'am, real adults do not spend their time calling other adults children.

Real adults also learn from their mistakes, as, for example, when their one insult falls flat, and neither provokes outrage nor evokes smiles at the witticism, repeats the same again and again, and then does it again and just once more, as if expecting a different end result with no change in the causes.

The behavior of calling names and repeating the name-calling is the very epitome of childishness.

I am not sure whether to call your attempt here ironic, or projection, or neurotic, or idiotic, but I once again stand aghast at the lack of self-awareness, shame, or conscience on the part of Leftists like yourself.

The feminist SJW's have no sense of proportion or simple human tolerance for differences and the social graces.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that there is NO PLACE in civilized society for SJW's.

Crause, the logic of someone who answers "Go away, Fuck off, leave us alone" with "You are like a slaveowner and like a Nazi" on the grounds that slaveowners and Nazis were famous for trying to get blacks and Jews to stop nagging and pestering them is less than compelling.

I would say it is the stupidest thing I had ever heard a Leftist say, but, then again, comparing all the grains of sand in the sea and the stars in the galaxy is beyond my limited mathematical talent.

Let me say instead that your comment is in good company with other Leftists comments in terms of wit, honesty, persuasive ability, clarity, logic, maturity, sobriety, and relation to the real world.

Or, for that matter, with the laughter of hyenas or the honking of geese. You are making a noise to indicate an emotional state, and it is not a joyful or human emotion.

As for the threats, a whining, weak-minded girl-child threatening me with lynching somehow fails to inspire the requisite terror.

If ever you feel the need to send an SJW into a truly and vastly amusing psychotic rage. Try something along the lines of, "It is so utterly adorable when community college intellectuals think they can..."
