On board the Trump train

Donald Trump addresses the only issue that matters:
Donald Trump estimated that it will take 18 months to two years to get the roughly 11 million immigrants living in the U.S. illegally to leave the country, and that he would then build a wall running along the border with Mexico.

The businessman’s statement made on a call with Alabama Republicans Thursday night added a bit of specificity to the Republican presidential frontrunner’s hardline stance on immigration. Mr. Trump released a six-page policy paper on immigration last month, and reporters have asked for details about how it would work since....

On the call, Mr. Trump was asked for details about how long it would take to round up illegal immigrants living in the U.S., with the questioner asking if five or ten years was an appropriate timeframe. Mr. Trump said his two year benchmark could be met with “really good management.”

“We have to get them out. If we have wonderful cases, they can come back in but they have to come back in legally,” Mr. Trump said in an audio clip posted on YouTube Thursday night by a person on the call.

Mr. Trump’s plan has been denounced by Democrats and many rival Republicans, who have called it impractical and immoral, among other criticisms. Mr. Trump said he would remove illegal immigrants from the country “so fast that your head will spin,” and long before he could embark on his plan to build a wall spanning the 1,900 mile border between the U.S. and Mexico.
That's good enough for me. I'd like to see him pledge to begin deporting legal immigrants, but that would probably be too much for the average voter and deporting 11 million invaders is considerably better than any other candidate, Republican or Democrat, is going to do. And furthermore, it's worth noting that Trump said he intends to deport ALL the illegal invaders, the 11 million is merely an estimate.

It doesn't matter what else Trump thinks or how crazy his policies might be. Immigration is now the only issue that matters to America. There is simply no justification for supporting any other Republican candidate. Is it possible that he's lying? Sure. But we KNOW all the other Republican candidates are, especially Carson, who is anti-gun.

"I decide who is a Racist". Andrew Spooner Jr.

Blogger VD September 12, 2015 1:37 PM

Vox, I'm afraid your group of commenters haven't taken your own advice. They are trying to defend you blindly with tactics you yourself have denounced when used by the other side for your entire career. Not your fault, but I expect a little more effort than simply chiming in, piling on, and running to your speech code when something makes you uncomfortable. I have a lot more respect for you than that that I have built up over more than a decade.

You don't make me uncomfortable. Ben Carson doesn't make me uncomfortable. You have no case, your position is just as stupid as those who supported Alan Keyes and Herman Cain in the past, and I will be pleased to remind you of that once Ben Carson drops out of the race with no support or money.

Assuming you don't vanish like the former supporters of Keyes and Cain did.

There is no need for anyone to take your arguments seriously. You don't have one. If you turn out to be correct and God has correctly informed you that Dr. Carson is the next US president, I will cheerfully acknowledge that I was wrong. But not before November 2016.

I suspect you still won't admit I'm correct when he isn't president then.

Anonymous Andrew Spooner Jr. September 12, 2015 1:37 PM

Blogger Chris Mallory September 12, 2015 1:41 PM

@161
That wasn't God, it was the Taco Bell you had for supper that evening.

But if you are claiming to speak for God and put forth prophecy, well here is what God had to say about that.

Deuteronomy 18:20-22
20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.' 21 "And if you say in your heart, 'How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?'-- 22 When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

So, if Carson is not elected, you are a false prophet and according to 2 Peter you will bring destruction upon yourself.

Just by opening the discussion, Trump has made himself worthy of my vote. No other politician has stated the obvious. I used to be a Ron Paul supporter, for example, and he's a pretty good constitutional conservative, but he never came out and said that culture matters. And without culture, there is no Constitution, Declaration of Independence, or even any values that define America. Like Vox has said. Heck, maybe Trump reads Vox. Wouldn't that be a hoot!

I'm not a big fan of building a wall. Seems to me if we're serious about dealing with illegals we won't need a wall because the risk/reward for sneaking across the border won't be worth it. And if we're not serious about dealing with illegals, a wall won't do us any good anyway.

There's the border Manuel. Stay on your side of it unless you have an invitation, because if we catch you on this side without an invitation, you will be praying for a speedy deportation.

238. Jack Amok: "I'm not a big fan of building a wall."

You don't need to build a wall if your men are as similar and as hard as bricks, like Spartans. That's not multicultural America.

America needs a wall because walls work, and because they are powerful statements, and after you make that statement you may be more able to do other things in the same spirit.

If Israel tears down its wall because walls don't work, that would be interesting. Till then, let's accept that the Jews, who are smarter than we are and love their own kind more than we do, believe in walls, and we would do well to learn from their example.

Also, if the wall is not built, are you confident that the money that is not spent on it will be used in some wiser, more beneficial way?

190. Josh It's not clear that he actually is/was a good surgeon. Yes it is. He was the first guy to separate conjoined twins.

Carson Born: September 18, 1951 really is a majik negro performing an operation at 6yo. Even Doggie Houser MD was older. I guess he is trans-ageist and Deadnamed as Dr Katz's team. Perhaps he was the entire team transitioned into one being trans-multiple/singular. Hey there is still the first doctor to do a Whipple on a 90+yo patient slot available.

In 1957, Bertram Katz and his surgical team made international medical history performing the world's first successful separation of conjoined twins sharing a vital organ

or a white doctor to operate on you while under anesthesia would you chose Carson? Yes

Now that you mention it I would recommend him as a surgeon for some people I know, the same ones I told to watch Django Unchained in a die verse theater.

238 if we're serious about dealing with illegals we won't need a wall because the risk/reward for sneaking across the border won't be worth

If you are thinking of doing anything worse than sending the males to Barney Frank's house handcuffed activist judges will get in the way.

Actually, BGS, it's a little more complicated than that. Wikipedia credits him with leading a team that separated twins join at the back of the head, with both twins surviving the operation.

See Wikipedia.

Still, Barack Obama is credited with leading the team that killed bin Laden, or something like that.

Actually he was the first one to successfully separate them that survivedthe procedure, that's why I mentioned the 90+yo whipple patient slot being open. If I bet on 13 every time at the roulette wheel I will eventually win. If you do a surgery that lasts longer than 20 hours with a 13% chance of success enough times you can be a world first

. The 70-member surgical team, led by Carson, worked for 22 hours.

The only way I can see it even being possible is to surround large areas (whole states?) with military cordons, then arrest en masse anyone who looks like he might be Hispanic and doesn't have ID on him at the time. This is not only outrageously unconstitutional, it will certainly sweep up quite a few citizens and legal residents, while missing at least some illegals whose ethnic appearance doesn't look suspicious to whoever is doing the looking.

More to the point, most of those illegally here are not costing us anything, and they have a lower crime rate than the general population. So in effect, we're talking about a repeat of the WW2 Japanese internment.

America is not supposed to be the kind of country that would ever do this sort of operation.

Anonymous Jack Amok September 12, 2015 5:16 PM

America needs a wall because walls work, and because they are powerful statements,

We see things differently. If there's nobody willing to enforce the laws, the wall is just a bunch of concrete. So either we're "hard as Spartans" or we're not. If we're not, a wall isn't going to the job for us.

In fact, I think - contrary to your idea that building a wall will embolden us - people look at a wall as a way to avoid being hard on the illegals. Keep them from getting here and we won't have to be mean and deport them.

But, all that's a future debate. First things first, we have to deal with the millions that are here already. Once we do that, we can decide if we need a wall to keep them from coming back or if maybe they've lost their desire to be here anyway. You're right that we need to build our spirit, but I'm pretty sure rounding up and packing off tens of millions of illegals with their weeping women and children will do more to embolden us than pouring a bunch of concrete.

You are clearly all talking out of your asses about Ben Carson and don't know the first thing about him, haven't read any of his books, watch his Biographical film, watched any of the many hours of speeches and sermons on everything from PC-Entryism to creationism. I think you're all full of shit at the moment to tell you the truth. I'm disgusted.

Ben Carson is a waste of time because the best arguments his supporters can come up with are:

1. If you look at him in the eye you will realize he is awesome.

2. If you research him you might discover that he is awesome.

3. God told me he is awesome.

Yeah, well, that get's back to the part about all the things you can't do when you're in power. You can't use the IRS to target your political opponents, you can't use the FBI to spy on them, you can't throw elected officials in jail when they don't do their job the way you tell them to...

Really there's no end to the list of things you can't do.

Blogger Redd September 12, 2015 5:23 PM

@282 jdgalt. Oh please. That's so SJW: Set up a non-existent problem and whine. You can't figure it out? Here: Authorities simply check the identification of anyone arrested or suspected of being in the country illegally. Illegals get sent back home with an admonition that they'll never be eligible for U.S. citizenship (pace Australia), and a warning that if caught in the country again illegally they'll be tried by an expedited military tribunal, and shot if found guilty. Any problem with that? I don't care.

That's... special. Repeat after me: illegals have a 100% crime rate. And the MS-13 and other assorting gangs they've brought with them are raping women and children, murdering, trafficking in guns, drugs, and human slaves. Every single one of those acts by illegals is entirely preventable by enforcing immigration law.

And it's estimated that 62% of illegal immigrant families are using one or more welfare programs. That's after not paying their fair share of taxes, taking jobs that should go to Americans, and sending money back 'home' to their families that's not going to be spent in America.

From your point of view, building a wall would be a bad thing that would weaken white America's will to do what is really necessary.

Likely the resolution will be that Donald Trump will not be elected, no wall will be built, and in twenty years events and America's demographics will have passed beyond the point where the discussion makes sense.

Anonymous Gapeseed September 13, 2015 1:56 AM

He's a doctor and his sole appeal to Republicans is his Magical Negritude.

I have no special affinity for either Carson or Spooner, but let me pick up the ball for Spooner and run for a bit.

First, pro-Carson. The quote above is from Vox, and I agree that people would vote for Carson in large part because he is black, but why exactly is this a bad thing? We libertarians (and I am one) might think Republicans are feckless and weak (a fact amplified by Boehner and McConnell, two men who might well be compromised), but the Democrats are standard bearers for evil. Democrats win by cobbling together a coalition of the disaffected, and blacks often march right at the front of that coalition. Carson completely blunts that and changes the narrative. His candidacy offers the best possibility of a permanent shift in American politics. If blacks (who historically vote in bloc) shifted to Republicans, Dems would not have enough muscle to get to 50%, even with the growing tide of Hispanic voters. That Carson offers ample evidence of brains and dignity makes him an ideal matchup against Clueless Joe. And it's not just the political narrative that he changes - he would CHANGE THE NARRATIVE of SJW's, who could then not plausibly contend that Republicans and right wingers are racists. I know Vox scoffs at the logic, but it would put Dems in the low forties nationally, and we could get a huge upgrade of political class as conservatives and libertarians replace people in government who are essentially criminals.

(Note: I read Vox's book. It was excellent. I understand Vox's point that SJW's speak in rhetoric. But as Vox and others acknowledge, their rhetoric is aimed at moderates. SJWs need to be plausible in their pointing and shrieking and isolating, and Carson would undermine that entire playbook. That Carson might not be pure could (not would) be counterbalanced by political favors owed to the base. He is worthy of our consideration.)

As for Trump, he is a comic book villain. Honestly, DC would do well to mine Trump's candidacy for a Lex Luthor storyline. I am no evangelical, but does it bother anyone that Trump has never asked God for forgiveness, or that he openly contemplates incest, or that he was, until very recently, an ally of Hillary and a pro-choice stalwart? We question Carson, and we give Trump a pass? Really? Trump gets major points for smashing the elite on immigration, but he himself benefitted from illegal immigration from his dealings in construction over the years.

Let's co-opt the message and rid ourselves the messenger.

You know, I think I've pinpointed Vox's blindspot on Carson and why he can't look in the guy's eyes and just see that this is obviously the guy. Vox grew up comfortable. Carson grew up a slum kid, like me. Drinking powdered milk. Sleeping on the floor because you don't have a bed. 30-year-old Sceptic tank overflowing and seeping into the entire half-acre of grass around the house. That shit builds character. Vox is smart; damn smart, by the way; but he is a terrible judge of character because it's a kind of character he's never had to develop. I don't think he was ever forced into the kind of real-life situation where you have to be able to judge somebodies' character in a glance. I'm sure he's deliberately thrown himself into stressful situations in order to build character as an adult, but there is a look in the eyes that slum kids know, plain and simple. Vox doesn't know it. He's never been there so he doesn't know what he doesn't know.

And it's not just the political narrative that he changes - he would CHANGE THE NARRATIVE of SJW's, who could then not plausibly contend that Republicans and right wingers are racists.

There's the problem: you and my white conservative friends who promote Keyes/Cain/Carson and try to claim MLK Jr. as a conservative icon are dead wrong about this, and you really ought to have learned better by now.

George the First appointed Clarence Thomas, and leftists said he wasn't really black and also he was unqualified, so they defined his appointment as a blatant attempt to leverage his race just as you're suggesting, making it more racist than if he'd appointed a white guy. See also Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, J.C. Watts: did Republicans get any credit for promoting them? Did Limbaugh ever get credit for having Walter Williams fill in for him? When Keyes and Watts were running in the 1996 primaries for the chance to face white Clinton, did blacks cross over to support them in the Republican primaries?

It doesn't work, because it's based on an overly simplistic view of racial solidarity. Yes, blacks vote on race lines, but that doesn't mean they vote for the guy with the darkest skin. It means they vote for the guy they think will do the most for their race. That's always going to be the candidate who's further to the left.

Anonymous Nxx September 13, 2015 10:47 AM

Vox grew up comfortable. Carson grew up a slum kid, like me.

Translation from Leftist to English:

Vox Day Innate Victimological Value, or V(VD), is low because he wasn't born poor.

Andrew Spooner Innate Victimological Value, or V(AS), is high because he was born poor.

Since V(VD) < V(AS) it logically follows that:

1. Spooner is always right.
2. Vox Day is always wrong.

From your point of view, building a wall would be a bad thing that would weaken white America's will to do what is really necessary.

That's not quite my view - it's close but let me make sure I'm clear. I think discussion of building a wall is a way for many people to avoid discussing deportation. It's a phenomenon I see a lot in many different contexts. People who dislike confrontation look for some way - a wall, a rule, a commission - that they convince themselves will address the problem without the confrontation. Also, they have something they can point to as an "accomplishment" even when the problem itself continues.

But the confrontation is almost always necessary.

From my point of view, not having a wall has been given a long trial

Yes and no. There was also a long period with no wall where we didn't have massive immigration problems. We didn't tear a wall down in the middle of last century, so it was something else that changed.

Anonymous Whitey McWhite September 13, 2015 2:04 PM
