Mailvox: Attack near Marine recruiting center
RJ emails: "Attack at a Marine recruiting station. Near me. Still ongoing. Knew this was coming. Didn't think it would be here."
UPDATE: False alarm, looks domestic in nature.
"Davenport police told local reporters there were no injuries from the shooting, and the gunman shot himself on Utica Ridge Road, about three miles away."
BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC) – Police are responding to calls of a possible shooter in the 4500 block of Utica Ridge in Bettendorf. It appears to have started near the Marine recruiting office located at 710 E. Kimberly Rd. in Davenport around 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2015.It's going to be everywhere because the invaders are everywhere. Gun up. Carry. Be prepared.
A witness tells TV-6 that he was in the Marine recruiting center when he heard shots fired at a nearby law office. He says he heard screaming and then heard the gunman try to reload his gun. A Marine recruiter told everyone to run. As the witness was running, he said he heard more gunfire. Kimberly Rd. was closed, but has since reopened to traffic.

Bath House Barry tells military recruiters to make the armed people defending them go away. Its bad enough Obama ties soldiers hands in the middle east but he has been importing moslems as refusegees while not letting recruiters be armed.
Law office = domestic dispute
Very likely the name is known. Notice there's no ''The name has to yet to be released pending notification of next of kin'' disclaimer.
Name, photo, when?
"Gun up and carry"
Go one step further. Open carry when allowed.

That policy was put in place long before 0bozo. Same with the hand-tying.

To paraphrase Prince Humperdinck (of Princess Bride fame):
"They've got a country to destroy, a narrative to write, and (insert non-PC group) to blame for the shooting; they're swamped."
OT what exactly do you get for $75,000 a night? Or was that just the too ugly fee.

I would likely concealed carry when possible. Open carry just identifies you as a target. Still has merit, but making the attacker uncertain is better than letting them know who to target first, assuming all are not carrying.
Good recommendation for what my wife could carry in her purse?
It sound more dramatic when you link the USMC and gun violence in the headline.
@7 Steve:
Sounds like credit card charges are being disputed. That's going to court.
Most reliable is a smith and Wesson j frame .357 mag revolver.
Or a nice 9mm like a little Boberg.
If she like a heavy gun a Coonan compact.
I would start with revolvers always fire and good close up. Least likely for ND or miss feeds.
Rarely do people even notice the gun when I open carry, which is most of the time. The few that have are situationally aware to began with. Plus then you can have a back up gun on you concealed.
@9
Smith and Wesson Bodyguard .380
Easy to carry for deep concealment. Trigger is decent. Better ergonomics than the Ruger LCP. If you get one with the Crimson Trace laser, it works pretty well.
My wife purse carries one and I use one as my summer carry firearm.

Well that's an interesting and informative statement....
The gunman must have mad skills to shoot himself without injury.
From the news reports it doesn't sound like the recruiting station was involved, merely close to the shooting. It sound more like workplace violence or something similar.
> Good recommendation for what my wife could carry in her purse?
The most important detail is that she has to be comfortable shooting it.
My first thought was ''moslim again?''. Turns out I was wrong:
The suspect was a 40-year-old white male.
The perp was likely trying to shoot the ex and/or her attorney. Or maybe his own lawyer for getting him a raw deal.
Get divorced, get screwed, no lube. Not the lawyer's fault. The deck is stacked.
@9 She needs to go handle different makes/models because when she holds the right one, she'll know.
I carry a Sig 9mm, P250 subcompact because that is the gun that my hand likes. It doesn't like glocks or springfields. I wish it liked glocks, because magazines are cheaper.

Porn stars charge extra to work with negroes. Maybe regular whores do too.
Did it hit cable news? We could at least learn what didn't happen.
Right near where I work.
At first, there was a report on the news of shots fired at the Navy/Marine recruiting station. A few minutes later, reports of shots fired "near Unity Point Hospital". That is what really got me curious, as it is about a mile south on Utica.
Gunman killed himself a bit further south with a shot to the head. Initial rumors are that the shooter was going through a divorce, shot up the lawyers office, and then went to the prosthetic limb office where either his father in law worked or someone connected to the divorce. First report had a Marine recruiter who had everyone run out the back, and he went out the side to "engage" the shooter. In Iowa, we have CCW, and it is legal in National Guard offices to have your weapon. Not sure if the office had National Guard in it or not. The progression, in quick order, of Marine Recruiter and "near the hospital" was what got me curious.
A few comments that they could "hear" him reloading, and that rounds hit the Marine office. Not sure what "hearing him reload means".
I suspect it was a divorce case gone bad. I do hope it isn't anyone I know.
I have family there.
Kudos to VD for not revising his post when it turned out differently from the initial reports.

Find your nearest friendly gun nut, and ask him nicely to mentor your wife from 22LR to 44mag. Then she'll tell you what she likes.
As do I automatthew; nephew & family in Bettendorf.

Have you held a gen 4 Glock? I have a gen 3 G17 and have always thought of a Glock as SHTF pistol, parts are ubiquitous and easy to detail strip. So kind of a meh... pistol. I finally picked up a Gen 4 and the grip reduction makes the Glock feel like a different gun.
Now, the best grips on a pistol are the HK VP9 and HK P30. Completely customizable grips. The VP9 has way too many parts for a striker fire pistol, would had to detail strip one of those with all the roll pins. The HK P30 is more simple, and it's hammer fired, but 1k for a polymer gun. Yikes! I say that... now... but I'll probably buy a P30, double action/single action seems like a safer carry option than striker fire. And HK parts are available, wish Sig would sell P320 parts.
