Scalzi: Americans are " shrieking, bigoted cowards"

John Scalzi's accusation that Americans are "shrieking, bigoted cowards" and "cheese-eating surrender monkeys" because they don't want to permit Muslim immigrants to move in next door is more than a little ironic, considering that McRapey has a) never been in so much as a fistfight in his life, b) spent the last year lecturing everyone about how SF conventions are unsafe and #GamerGate is more evil and lethally dangerous than the Waffen SS, and c) lives in the whitiest white Christian enclave he could afford.
So, this week.

The last few days are a reminder that a large number of Americans are in fact shrieking, bigoted cowards, and that's a sad thing, indeed.

    — John Scalzi (@scalzi) November 19, 2015

Seriously, I don’t think the bedwetting about Muslims has been this bad in a very long time, which is saying something, and the panic on Syrian refugees is particularly ridiculous. Here’s a nice, juicy quote from a just released essay on the subject:

Of the 859,629 refugees admitted from 2001 onwards, only three have been convicted of planning terrorist attacks on targets outside of the United States and none was successfully carried out.  That is one terrorism-planning conviction for a refugee for every 286,543 of them who have been admitted.  To put that in perspective, about 1 in every 22,541 Americans committed murder in 2014.  The terrorist threat from Syrian refugees in the United States is hyperbolically over-exaggerated and we have very little to fear from them because the refugee vetting system is so thorough…

The security threat posed by refugees in the United States is insignificant.  Halting America’s processing of refugees due to a terrorist attack in another country that may have had one asylum-seeker as a co-plotter would be an extremely expensive overreaction to very minor threat.

What horrifyingly liberal commie soviet came up with this load of codswallop? The Cato Institute, the libertarian think tank co-founded by Charles Koch, i.e., the fellow who with his brother is currently trying to buy the entire right side of the political spectrum for his own personal ends. When the Cato Institute is telling you to maybe take down the pearl-clutching over the Syrian refugees a notch or two, it’s an indication that you’ve lost all perspective.... So congratulations, America. We’ve successfully wrested the title of “cheese-eating surrender monkeys” from France. Enjoy it.
So brave. The reference to France is ironic, in light of how the general mood in France right now is somewhere between "I am voting for Front National" and "kill all the fucking barbarians already". And apparently the Chinese are even more cowardly, considering that they are terminating with extreme prejudice all terrorist suspects, including those under the age of six.

It will be amusing to see how long it takes before Scalzi starts desperately trying to explain away this piece in much the same way he has been trying to explain away his public rape confession for the last three years. But not as amusing as it would be to see Saladin Ahmed behead him on stage at Worldcon, which Ahmed totally would not do because Muslims never do that sort of thing. It is, I am reliably informed, "against Islam."

UPDATE: Someone sent along this.

Syrians in US are, apparently, "shrieking, bigoted cowards."

Anonymous Howie November 20, 2015 2:02 PM

As someone who works in New York City and will be moving offices to Times Square in 2 months, I would like to tell all the middle American governors crying about how terrified their citizens are and how dangerous letting refugees into the US would be to stick it where the sun don’t shine. No one is coming for them. I live in a RELATIVELY high risk area in terms of being a terrorist target, and it’s not something I think about every day, the same way I don’t think about other things that are almost definitely not going to happen, or even things that are much more likely to, like say a CAR ACCIDENT.

Right-wing Americans are such [unintentionally (I assume) sexist word equating to “wimp” I don’t like deleted – JS] (although our Canadian version are just as bad, if not as numerous). They’re always afraid of something. In my lifetime I can remember them being all in a tizzy about: communists in Hollywood, the State Department, and under their beds; beatniks; rock and roll (jungle music); Fidel Castro; the “missile gap” (wasn’t one); Martin Luther King; freedom riders; peaceniks; hippies; Black Panthers; the Weather Underground; the domino theory; Vietnamese boat people; Satanists in day care; Japan Inc.; Saddam Hussein; sharia law; jihadis; Barack Obama; Affordable Care; gay spouses; and now Syrian refugees.

Oddly, none of these brought about the end of the world.

"Halting America’s processing of refugees due to a terrorist attack in another country that may have had one asylum-seeker as a co-plotter would be an extremely expensive overreaction to very minor threat."

Expensive? How would it be any more expensive than it is now, let alone "extremely expensive"? Cost of reallocating services currently used for processing Syrian refugees, maybe?

I don't think so. The mindset is to destroy Christianity and the civilization it fostered in the West. They're fine with a few broken eggs, so long as Christianity is undone.

A nuke going off will not faze them one bit, because it works toward their ultimate goal. They want the nuke to go off. And then they will say, "Don't react! It's what the terrorists want!"

So the Useful Idiot has found another way to try to undermine American society. Why should we be surprised? Their end goal is cultural suicide, so why shouldn't they use every tool they can bring to hand?

Of course, we should pay no attention to them, other than to note who they are for future purposes.

Of the 859,629 refugees admitted from 2001 onwards, only three have been convicted of planning terrorist attacks on targets outside of the United States and none was successfully carried out.

How convenient that we are going to leave out the terrorists in 2001 who weren't convicted but nevertheless successfully carried out attacks in three(almost four) jetliners.

Blogger McChuck November 20, 2015 2:21 PM

@4 Howie - They world continues to spin, yes. However, most of the things you listed made it a notably worse and more dangerous place. If you hate America and Christian culture, like Islam and Sharia law so much, please move to Syria.

OpenID basementhomebrewer November 20, 2015 2:22 PM

@15 it's more devious than that. Note that he is using the word "convicted", not "committed". Most of them never get "convicted" because they have a tendency to die in the process of carrying out the attack. It is the same as "Gun Violence". Find a technicality to skew your results and that the average reader will not pick up on.

Blogger Anchorman November 20, 2015 2:22 PM

David,
"Refugees" cooks the numbers. It's a way to deliberately define the pool anyway you want. in this case, it deliberately reduces the number of Muslims who plotted to attack the US on US soil.

Again, the female suicide bomber was born and raised in France and became radicalized and empowered by the immvaders shortly after their arrival.

Those numbers should count, too (when counting similar US attacks, successful and foiled). They conveniently omit those numbers. Because narrative.

For over between 45 and 70 million corpses in China, it did.

The people McCarthy was investigating, when we had access to the Kremlin documents after the fall of the Soviet Union, including their pay records, showed that there were in fact State Department officers in the pay of the Soviets, and they did indeed put their influence successfully behind the surrender of China to the Mao, who then killed more people than all other dictators in history combined.

This is a matter of uncontested historical record.

And that was just the first thing on the list. Being a Leftist means never having to say your sorry.

How Leftists, who are afraid of the weather, who are more afraid of George Bush than of Saddam Hussein have the effrontery to lecture sane men on fears and false fears is ironic, if not astounding.

Endow the king with your justice, O G-d, the royal son with your righteousness. May he judge your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice.

May the mountains bring prosperity to the people, the hills the fruit of righteousness. May he defend the afflicted among the people and save the children of the needy; may he crush the oppressor.

May he endure as long as the sun, as long as the moon, through all generations. May he be like rain falling on a mown field, like showers watering the earth.

In his days may the righteous flourish and prosperity abound till the moon is no more. May he rule from sea to sea
and from the River to the ends of the earth. May the desert tribes bow before him and his enemies lick the dust.

May the kings of Tarshish and of distant shores bring tribute to him. May the kings of Sheba and Seba present him gifts. May all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him.

For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death.

He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight. Long may he live! May gold from Sheba be given him. May people ever pray for him and bless him all day long.

May grain abound throughout the land; on the tops of the hills may it sway. May the crops flourish like Lebanon
and thrive like the grass of the field. May his name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun.

Then all nations will be blessed through him, and they will call him blessed. Praise be to the L-rd God, the G-d of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory.

Amen and Amen.

This sort of hyperbolic language used by Leftists like "end of the world" misses the point. It's never the end of the world, but it can certainly be the end of you. Just ask the dead at the Paris concert. The rest of the city now lives in a state of musical chairs waiting to see who is left standing when the music stops. Nobody should have to live like that.

A NY'er with a bizarre victim complex. It really upsets him when he has to think about the other parts of the country who suffered from a terrorist attack.

Let's see now, middle America and terrorism.
IIRC, the Oklahoma bombing had a third suspect who looked suspiciously Middle Eastern in origin, and IIRC he was never caught.
Then there was the Feds playing terrorist and attacking the compound in Waco. Oh and how about the Feds again at Ruby Ridge?
Then the first documented violence by a Middle Easterner was Sirhan Sirhan attacking and killing Robert Kennedy in the Ambassador Hotel.
Oh and how about all the innocent civilians who worked on the base being part of the Ft. Hood massacre?

NYC isn't the only one with scars #4.

I can honestly say I'm not especially worried about terrorism. Having my peaceful city turned into Malmo, that worries me. You can vet refugees for previous affiliation to terrorist groups (assuming your vetting even works), but you can't vet them for joining terrorist groups in the future, or taking up drug dealing, or deciding that now is the time to rape some burka-less kufr whores.

I guess some people call raising these questions "cowardice." I call it noticing patterns.

I expected the second mouse to run in terror, but it just hang out there. It even walked up to the snake and sniffed its snout! The snake ate it a few minutes later.

How Leftists, who are afraid of the weather, who are more afraid of George Bush than of Saddam Hussein have the effrontery to lecture sane men on fears and false fears is ironic, if not astounding.

Classic /r selected behavior. It actually makes sense when you understand that rabbits can not see threats to their environment, except from predation. Conservatives represent a predatory threat. We embrace competition and capitalism, therefore we are the greater existential threat to Leftism than Hussein.

"When I heard of the attacks I was stricken with fear: not of terrorists or Muslims but of the weak-kneed Français. There appeared to be no retaliation. Forget hate crimes. There wasn’t even any hate. I bet the jihadists felt the same way. They screamed, “Allahu Akbar” and committed an act of war in the name of Islam. The president agreed with them that it was a war, but the French people seemed overcome with malaise. They were treating it like a train crash. To them it was an unfortunate accident that was totally unpreventable so let’s have a good cry and get on with our lives. France has become so consumed with égalité, they’ve turned their backs on liberté and fraternité."

The LibProgs of our world have a mental disease. My guess would be that it's genetic. But they certainly have some kind of mental disease, an illness that is either the cause of or the result of a spiritual illness. The LibProgs believe that Whites and Western Civilization "have it coming." WesterCiv has to pay for its sins. We have to pay for all the oppression we caused in the brown world. And by pay, the LibProg means that we have to die. LibProgs like Scalzi want the West to die. They want to see Whites kicked in the face and sent to the mat like Holm decked Rousey. The reason people are so shocked by Natural Disasters or shell shocked by battles or wars is because these things are unexpected and not part of their life experience. Just musing on the left's muslimolatry, and I recall a passage in Locke's Second Treatise on Government (yeah, I know he's not exactly in favor here). Among the long train of abuses he described he mentioned that the people would:
see several experiments made of arbitrary power, and that religion underhand favoured, (tho' publicly proclaimed against) which is readiest to introduce it; and the operators in it supported, as much as may be; and when that cannot be done, yet approved still, and liked the better.

Locke was talking of Catholicism (it was the 17th century, it was an issue), but thing how much Islam fits the bill in the 21st century. The left will make excuses for absolutely anything that Muslims do, from Rotherham to Charlie Hebdo. They will even go to the point of denying that certain Muslims are Muslims (ISIS isn't Muslim, Osama bin Laden wasn't Muslim, etc) just to show how much they deeply respect and love Muslims, and especially the gang-raping kind of Muslim.

Nothing will get those people to "wake up." They are alert and consider Muslim crime and violence a feature, not a bug. After all Islam is the religion that favors arbitrary power.

Blogger TheRedSkull November 20, 2015 8:26 PM

We should thank Scalzi for the insight. He is telling us precisely what it would take for him to adopt a K posture.

He would need to be pressed into "shrieking, bigoted coward[ice]", a state he would view as "sad", because it would mean the end of r abundant security, and forced alliance of near vs. far with K strategists who easily outcompete him.

He views threat recognition as "bedwetting" (except when applied to outgrouped nearby K's).

He describes rational threat recognizers as “cheese-eating surrender monkeys”.

Surrendering what (if not one's country to foreign invaders) one wonders?

Simple: Surrendering the r holiness-spiral strategy that has been so successfully implemented in America since direct election of senators and expansion of male suffrage.

None of the above is explicitly conscious for him, of course. It is simply the ingrained r-strategist emotional programming talking. But that program has discoverable rational foundations, as does any successful evolutionary strategy.

"does this mean Scalzi has a secret crush on Vox?"

I think so. Scalzi even wishes he looked like Vox. Considering the crossdressing and homoerotic posing he does with his fellow gammas, I'd be quite surprised if there was no thread of longing buried deep in that midget psyche.

I can't say for sure, because I can't project myself through that many degrees of psychological shift to model this aspect of his interior, but it stands to reason.

The little squirt can't handle friendly emotion without spazzing into the gay act. Seems to me that hateful emotion would bend the same way. It's enough to make me very suspicious of all the "mancrush" talk.

Let's hypothesize the following scenario: Scalzi the palace bureaucrat vs. Gor. Scalzi comes undone persecuting Gor. Gor directly confronts. Outcome: Scalzi gets turned out, becomes Gor's devoted prison bitch.

It could happen.

GRRM doesn't speak for Santa Fe. Nobody does, really, this area is such a mosaic. It's always been tolerant of differences, but there's already more than enough criminal underclass here. I saw on a map that apparently some Syrian "refugees" are supposed to be settled in Albuquerque; but then I gather New Mexico's governor is one of the refusers, so I don't know what will happen. Interesting times.

I've never seen GRRM, and I don't know where he lives, but I suspect it's one of the gracious old adobe estates in the expensive East Side, and he probably has a lot of space – but I kind of doubt he'll take any of these "refugees" into his own home.

My other point stands. The people who go to Worldcon are pretty much all old as the hills. Scalzi has a primarily post child baring fandom.

""Vox you do realize in twenty years no one will remember either your or Scalzi right? "

Not so. Vox Day will be remembered for the same reason Charles Williams is remembered. Due to his friendship with JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis, Mr Williams is remembered. Likewise Lord Dunsany, famous in his own lifetime, is now mostly recalled because he is linked to the more famous name of his friend HP Lovecraft.

He will be remembered as my editor, because my work will certainly be remembered for far longer than twenty years.

My guess is that certain scholars will be reading me in two hundred, because the Catholic Church will remain until the end of time: and we tend to pay special attention to each other's written works, despite differences of race and language and millennium. I was just reading the works of Justin Martyr the other day, and Thomas a Kempas. If you want an audience you know will exist until the end of time, you have to attract a readership among Catholics.

My coreligionists might be curious about short lived phenomenon known as science fiction, which flourished during the Space Age, and departed again once Big Brother, or the Caliphate, or the Beast, has outlawed thought and hence technology.

OK, so McRapey is unhappy that some folks are less than excited over the prospect of their local ELCA or Episcopalians might be resettling some Syrian ISIS folks down the street under Section 8 and full welfare benefits (with full GOP blessing) in time to celebrate "World Kindness Day" next year.

Maybe he wants these newcomers let in to service his own degenerate appetites. I understand Musloids have Allah's blessing to foist themselves upon goats and sheep as long as they don't sell the meat to their own village - I rather doubt much meat would be present in a gasbag like McRapey in any case so they would probably prefer an actual goat. He needs to pay for his own cheap thrills, but that's a typical SJW - always expecting some cuck to pay the tab.

John Deer: Thou art a fool. The pustulant rot that inhabits your skull cannot understand quality: Wright is one of the better authors of this time.
I say that with some shame, for I find him a hard read. It is his use of language: most of the time I read to relax and read at a lower level of art (Ringo and Kratman, not Tolkien or Wright).
Moreover, most authors think like Wright.
Finally, I have read most of what Kratman, Pournelle and Scalzi have written. Scalzi is the weakest of the three: although Kratman started with a pedestrian style he has improved, and has continues to improve. Scalzi is getting worse with each book.

The best current writers of the left are British: my which I mean Stross and McLeod. The best US left SF writer is Eric Flint. And he despises the SJW as effete examples of the petit bourgeoisie.

John Doe-eyed,

"One thing I know for sure, John C. Wright will definitely be forgotten in twenty years. People quickly forget mediocrities, this will not change as time goes by."

John Wright might be violently wrong (I doubt it, but I could see things playing out that way), but the last word anyone who has read him would use to describe him is "mediocre." He gets his swings in, and with style. You might not like the style, but there's no lukewarmness or half-assedness in it.

"I would say the fool was the person who compared himself to Tolkien, Lewis, and Lovecraft."

I can see why a man of you qualities hides in the subjunctive. Best stay there; reality is not kind to such half-men.

As for Wright:

"Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp,
Or what's a heaven for?"

Why, precisely, are the Nephelogetes of Cloudcuckooland more afraid of Global Warming than of the Global Caliphate?

Is it a r/K strategy thing where rabbits in an abundant environment are safe as long as the environment stays abundant?

Or is it thing where telling someone else to live with a small carbon footprint costs you nothing, increases the misery of the poor, allows you to feel self righteous, and, atop all that, the problem is both unreal and unsolvable, so that the joy of fretting never grows less?

Whereas a real problem requires a man to solve it.

All Progressivism can be understood as a sheep's clothing for the Fenris gene. Abortion eliminates millions of undesirables per year. Warmism seeks to preclude competition for resources and social mobility that threatens their status. Cloward-Piven overwhlems the do-gooders so they're too preoccupied to counter the do-evilers.

Progressivism is red in tooth and claw.

Modern Left - Sociopaths conning bleeding heart liberals.

Instead of simple solutions such as the true, tried, and tested separation of fist fighting foes, they have concerts and tee shirts and hashtags to "raise awareness" and "show solidarity", that in effect are religious rituals used to raise awareness of their own high and holy emotional morality, and of course to fatten their wallets. The bleeding hearts think the logical problem solvers are the sociopaths, as we don't show the proper feelings toward the small scale, individually wrapped, narrative approved, revolving carousel of collective historical victims on the nightly news highlight reel, but we're the only ones with peaceful solutions to diversity of opinion.

American "leftists" are in fact advancing the agenda of global capitalism. They might as well be paid agents of the Koch brothers.

More and more I'm starting to come over to this view, particularly when it comes to feminism. There are a relative handful of women who actually do find work rewarding, and they make enough money to smooth over the problems you find when both spouses have a career. But the vast majority of women don't have careers; they have jobs. And they're depressing the average wage while having a miserable time of it to boot. Who actually benefited from this surge of labor into the work force? Not working people, men or women.

Scalzi's followers are heavily disproportionately civilian government workers, academic bureaucrats, etc. They profiteer from the catastrophic Browning of America and don't care that we're financially raping our future with deficit spending to pay for their salary and benefits.

Blogger Lovekraft November 21, 2015 9:02 AM

with recent developments showing the Republicucks allying with democrats to oust Trump, a parallel could be drawn with white liberals who are suckling at the teat of 'safe spaces'. They are eager to betray all to appear as part of the in-group.

Their in-group is filled with deviants, morally backrupt cowards. So let them throw their little barbs and we shall dismiss them accordingly.

WE have the moral high ground. They have power only from state-backed intimidation - a temporal base.

Another example of SJW projection: Americans are cowards for the concern that we'd be importing organized, Islamic terror cells, a rational concern based on attacks in France and ISIS's public threats to attack DC. Yet these same SJWs demand gun confiscation and pee in their pants in fear over the very low risk of being killed by an insane, white male spree killer. This irrational fear extends to the idea of law abiding whites being armed in general in the U.S.

Blogger Pseudotsuga November 21, 2015 12:49 PM

@194: jacopo
I have corroborative evidence that this is true. An off-the-deep-end Liberal Facebook friend of mine has nothing but derogatory words towards those people who give into fear, and give ISIS what they want, by denying these poor, hungry, tired, poor, yearning-to-be-free people free housing and food in our own country. Yet he also points out that one is MUCH more likely to die from an angry white-guy with a gun than from a terrorist attack.
He's reading from the script exactly. I have decided that I only keep him on Facebook because (A) I want to see what the left thinks, and he reliably posts the lefty memes and talking points, and (B) he would consider being de-friended a victory for his side. So I skim his posts, shake my head in sadness at the madness he descended into after years of clinical depression, and then come here for a regular inoculation against the poison.

Anonymous jon November 21, 2015 5:50 PM

This is laughable (from Scalzi's post):

"the actual process for placing refugees in new countries is so long and arduous and so selective"

They are literally just walking into countries in Europe. There is no vetting right now. They don't even need paperwork right now, so vetting can't take place even if a country wanted to try it. Citing to the normal process as typical of what is happening now is absurd.
