NFL Week 14

Well, I'm in the playoffs by point difference, but with Mark Ingram out and on IR, and my opponent having had a good Thursday night, it could be tight. This is the weekly NFL open thread.

Hopefully Pittsburgh can keep their current momentum. We need this for our shot at the wildcard. If we can take the Bengals out, it's a easy ride to the playoffs.

Dalton out with thumb injury in the 1st. That's why QBs shouldn't attempt tackles...unless you're Big Ben.

How ridiculous is the NFC least? It is not implausible for all four teams to end 6-10 and the Cowboys win it with the best division record! That ridiculous.
So which turd will float to the top of the bowl and (likely) host the Vikings?
The WWE couldn't write a storyline that strange, because with fiction there's got to be some degree of believability.

Dammit, I have Rawls on my team and he was on his way to a monster game.

Anonymous Jabari December 13, 2015 2:06 PM

GG on Thursday there Vox - we lucked out a bit wit the turnovers. Fitz is a monster - that block he threw on Floyd's TD was the best I think I've ever seen from a WR.

I am rooting for "Anybody but the Redskins" to win the NFC East. I don't want any Vikings or Seahawks players to get injured in a wildcard game at FedEx Field.

Anonymous Mavwreck December 13, 2015 3:34 PM

The Titans just got on the board with a TD pass _TO_ Mariota. Wow.

Anonymous Dave Gerrold's Cabana Boy December 13, 2015 3:41 PM

I want the Steelers to win just to underscore that Cincinnati still isn't the Boss in the division.

Granted we're getting outplayed today, but Hasselbeck just had to screw up his arm.

Anonymous YIH December 13, 2015 4:04 PM

I guess we can now say the Panthers are for real. Wow.

In non-NFL football news. Army continued it's legendary losing streak to Annapolis. Assisted by it's QB Keenan Reynolds who set a record with his 84th rushing TD.

Interesting choice for the young man.

He has no hope for life as an NFL QB.

None.

The kid is a runner but he is an exceptional one. Normally an Annapolis grad is required to pull a five year hitch as an officer (Navy/Marine his choice).

The DOD wouldn't think twice about granting an exception and just letting the kid off with a reserve commission that he would effectively have to do nothing to full fill.

And there sits Achilles Choice.

As a dull, career minded Naval Officer, an Academy Hero could sail to his twenty year pension.

As an exciting Running Back he would have a career life on average of...two an half years.

As for doing his time in the service and then going NFL. Get Real, the kid is no Roger Staubach.

Long term it's a no brainer, go military.

But there is the question of Achilles Choice.
A long dull life or short one filled with glory?

Wow Gould... how the mighty have fallen. Bears just didn't want it this year. 3-15 at home the last 2 seasons.

Anonymous Dave Gerrold's Cabana Boy December 13, 2015 4:52 PM

@Cataline Sergius

20 years as a Naval Officer...I dunno, that doesn't have to be *dull*. "NFL 'glory'" is overrated.

Blogger Cataline Sergius December 13, 2015 4:56 PM

@13

Quote from Keenan Reynolds

"Got my first choice, Information Warfare!"

No, this is not in fact codeword for DEVGRU.

OpenID Jack Amok December 13, 2015 5:00 PM

Well, Rawls broke his ankle, out for the year. That's not what I needed for my playoff run.

They showed the trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence during a break in the GB-DAL game.

The subsumption of American sovereignty would appear to be a theme.

A strange one from nfl.com: Who recognizes this man? And his obvious hair dye. And the fact that he looks stupid in an authentic NFL QB jersey.
BTW wasn't that surprised the Jags beat the Colts (who have pretty much given up this year) but how badly was a shocker.

@CS

Heh...well maybe he can land a nice gig as an Info-Security guy post-retirement. More useful than what I left the AF with.

Anonymous G.Veil December 13, 2015 6:44 PM

@VD

Out of curiosity did you have a problem with the Vikes running a play on 3rd down there instead of just kicking the field goal?

Blogger Dave December 13, 2015 7:01 PM

If the Pats beat the Texans tonight the Colts would lead their division at 6-7 and Luck could be back next week. They're not a good team but I wouldn't say they given up.

Blogger Dave December 13, 2015 7:09 PM

@Cataline, can't the kid try out the NFL see what happens then he could always go back to military?

Blogger Mr.MantraMan December 13, 2015 7:28 PM

The mighty Pack back on top

Blogger TontoBubbaGoldstein December 13, 2015 8:15 PM

Oakland beats Denver. Carolina wins. Cowboys lose. If New England loses...EPIC!

Anonymous Cowboys Fan December 13, 2015 9:05 PM

Just bring on the draft already...

Blogger Cataline Sergius December 13, 2015 9:20 PM

@21 Dave

In a word, no.

It's not easy to explain but to put it simply even if there weren't massive draw downs ongoing, (which there are). It is extremely difficult to go from reserve to full time active duty. Particularity for an officer.

So far as the Department of the Navy is concerned he will have to either shit or get off the pot.

Anonymous YIH December 13, 2015 11:08 PM

@24 Cowboys Fan:
That turd can still float to the surface.
Have hope the Cowboys can win the the NFC least ;)
It's not impossible, the classic faceoff may still be enough to get them in as as 6-10 or 7-9.
This experiment has gone on long enough,

"That's why QBs shouldn't attempt tackles...unless you're Big Ben."

If Bernard chips Tuitt there like he's supposed to, it never gets to that point.

Blogger Rambam December 14, 2015 12:37 AM

Carolina 13-0. What in the name of Don Shula is going on?

Anonymous Foghorn Leghorn December 14, 2015 2:05 AM

I say, I say...nothing. I'm going to tie up the dog, wait for him to stretch the rope, and make his face appear in a frying pan, and then go get me some Miss Penny, I say.

Blogger VD December 14, 2015 7:40 AM

Out of curiosity did you have a problem with the Vikes running a play on 3rd down there instead of just kicking the field goal?

No, it was the smart move. A 48-yarder is not a gimme.

Blogger jon spencer December 14, 2015 8:42 AM

A few years ago the Vikings tried a 3rd. down kick late in the game against the Packers, it did not work as planned.
As the Packers ended up winning.
