So brave

And so very clever. John Scalzi reveals the secret to his mastery of online debate:
John Scalzi ‏@scalzi
I like to mute a troller, troll them back a few times, and let 'em know they've been muted the whole time so I didn't see responses. PERFECT

Dave Pelna ‏@DavePelna
How courageous of you.

John Scalzi ‏@scalzi
This would be a devastating comment if I cared what you think. But I don't! So.
The thing is, it is a devastating comment because McRapey cares what everybody thinks. That's why he has to hide from all the critical responses. If he didn't care, he wouldn't block them, mute them, or respond snarkily to them in the first place.

Remember, the Gamma male always has to win in his own mind. He can't bear to admit failure or defeat to himself. This is why he never learns to stop making the same mistakes over and over again. And no matter what the outcome is, he will always find a way to somehow declare it to be a victory of some kind and thereby justify his course of action.

That's why it is so important to be able to acknowledge that you got your ass kicked, or that you were wrong, or that you were bested by someone better. If you don't, you will never learn to improve your game. And more importantly, you will never learn the self-respect that comes from the certain knowledge that you are one of those men who is always able to pick himself up, dust himself off, and return to the fray without fear.

UPDATE: Futhere evidence of McRapey's fearless indifference to others:
John Scalzi ‏@scalzi
Honestly if all comment sections on the Internet disappeared tomorrow our world would be a vastly better place.
Isn't it awful that people are allowed to talk back at him? And in public, no less!

Without the exclamation mark I was doubtful, but the dramatic effect created by your use of punctuation has convinced me that you don't care.

Except you do. You really do.

What a catastrophic moron. Paraphrasing his first comment, "I refuse to engage in debate with someone who disagrees with me, then snipe at them to show I won't engage them in debate." Those are the actions of a coward.

The Scalzi method of fighting...

a. lead with yer face
b. fall down each time you get hit
c. spend most of your time pushing yer hair out of yer face or rotating yer headgear.
d. charge in with a pushing motion because you don't know how to punch.
e. look outraged.
f. when the ref stops the contest to save you, act as though you were just getting ready to throw a punch..
g. declare victory later to people who didn't see the fight.

Or...just watch the vid of the girl marine getting battered even more senseless.

All is lost when a man's first vice is a delusion of infallibility.

All other vices will then cascade through their lives, and they will be forced by the resultant cacophony to jam their fingers ever more forcefully into their ears.

Wise people realize the limits of their own knowledge and accept that new arguments must be confronted or compel a change of opinion. Fools have all the answers and brook no new questions.

Gammas are Secret Kings. Scalzi's fragile ego cannot bear the thought that despite all of his success, he is still a loser and anyone of moderate intelligence can see this for himself. He is worse than the man who fought and lost, for at least THAT loser knows he lost and can endeavor to do better next time. Scalzi will fail over and over again, bested by his intellectual superiors, and never even know it.

But, unlike those who suffer the Dunning–Kruger effect, Scalzi's delusion is willful.

There was a post on Alpha Game yesterday which dealt with constructive criticism and how women don't really like it. They will always take it personal. Gammas are worse, they don't take it at all. They just ignore it altogether, pretending they were winners the whole time.

Counter that. Fools reframe all questions into old questions, already answered and dispensed with.

We live in a time when many people will destroy themselves in order to reach some pinnacle of "recognized expert" or Authority. The urge to be the Guru is great in some, and apparently the main quality of a Guru is infallibility.

Scalzi is just one of many people who've set themselves on a Pedestal (often via minor accomplishments) and then exhibit an aura of Perfection as a means to maintain their Guru status.

The blind follow these people while the observant are baffled by the profound stupidity of Guru and follower alike.

Spar.

Take a martial art or boxing class. Spar. Get your butt kicked, as I often did.

You will learn that you can take a punch or kick (unless you can't, but most folks can). You will learn how to defend yourself. You will learn humility. And you'll also have a fun, exhausting, exhilarating time.

Scalzi is a sad sack who will never know the first thing about being a man.

"The thing is, it is a devastating comment because McRapey cares what everybody thinks."

That's precisely the crazy irony of it: he is obsessed with preserving a particular image of himself and yet remains completely oblivious to how transparently stupid he is making himself look in the process.

And I don't know who's worse, the people like Scalzi who are constantly propping themselves up by standing in front of a carnival mirror everyday of their insecure lives or his ostensibly adoring fans who are too insecure themselves to tell the emperor he's as naked as a jaybird.

Even more ironic is that the one person whom Scalzi would consider his mortal enemy, actually turns out to be the best friend he has in the whole wide world due to his willingness to speak the truth by periodically calling Scalzi out on his gamma BS, while showing him a path to a much more fulfilling life.

The Dark Lord is the only one willing to tell Scalzi the truth. Is not the Dark Lord noble and good?

Blocking contentious posts on your blog while continuing to attack the poster - and allowing posts only from those who agree and praise you - is typical of SJW bloggers.

Mike Glyer does this all the time. As soon as you show him to be the biased fool he is, he posts a tepid but snarky "rebuttal," declares victory, then bans you from the site.

That's how cowards "win."

Funny too, that Nick Searcy engages in similar tactics while he continued to lob twitter volleys the other day at Vox after first making sure to block him.

When asked why he just couldn't ignore Vox, Mr. Searcy implied that blocking Vox = ignoring Vox. So, he "ignored" Vox for nearly a day, while tweeting about Vox the entire time. You can't make this stuff up.

But Johnny, no one forces you to read criticism. I can't bear to watch tapes of myself on TV, many actors won't read reviews, etc. But I sure they do have an older mentor for constructive criticism.

Who's Johnny's, Hayden? It shows.
