I do not want. I WILL.

Mike Cernovich hits another one out of the freaking park.
How to go from “I want” to “I will.”

The first step from going from a day dreamer to a doer is recognizing the self-sabotaging language patterns we use as part of our self-talk.

As with all mindset training, vigilance is crucial. Stop yourself every time you say, “I want.”

When you say to yourself or others, “I want,” pause and reflect in the moment.

Do you want what you say you want?

Perhaps you don’t. I’ve caught myself saying, “I want…,” and upon reflection, realizing I didn’t want that person or thing in my life.

If you desire in your heart what your mind tells you what you want, begin creating a vision of what you want.

Create a clear vision for what you want.
I said on Twitter that the most significant event of 2016 for me was meeting Mike and Milo in Paris. It was pure serendipity; I didn't really know who Mike was or why he was co-hosting GGinParis with us, but Mike, Shauna, Spacebunny, and I got together for dinner before the event and we really hit it off in a way one seldom does at my age.

I'm middle-aged. I'm reasonably successful, all things considered, and I'm fairly set in my ways. But Mike inspired me and caused me to need to adjust my thinking in a way that hasn't happened in decades. Somehow, he made me realize that I'm too prone to thinking about things, and planning things, and contemplating things, and not actually DOING things.

I used to only feed on the Dark Side of the Force. I needed negativity to motivate me; I needed to feel the need to vanquish someone, or something, to really get myself in gear. I don't think it is a coincidence that my best athletic performances have always come against archrivals or in playoff games. But since having the opportunity to sit down and spend some time with Mike a second time, in Spain, I've learned how to act without waiting for that motivation, without having a plan in place, and without overthinking the matter.

And I've learned that energy and momentum are contagious. Mike has it. I'm more introverted than he is, but I have more energy than most people my age and I'm learning to let it show so that others can be inspired and feed off it the way I am inspired by Mike's energy.

Mike is right. Mindset is absolutely key; one of the primary factors in most of my successes has been my unshakable confidence in something, whether it is my speed, my strength, my ability to take a shot, or my intelligence. And two of the primary factors in most of my failures has been either laziness - which is a failure of the will - or a lack of willingness to expect excellence from myself or others - which is a failure of confidence.

In the end, it's not about intelligence or natural gifts, it's about mindset. Castalia House WILL become the dominant force in science fiction and fantasy. The Castalia Blog WILL become the leading blog in science fiction, fantasy, and wargaming. And Vox Popoli WILL pass 100 million annual pageviews. I know these things will happen because I can already see them happening.

We're not there yet, but we're a damn sight closer to them than we were 12 months ago.

These two lines caught my eye:

In 2016 I’m going to be involved with two other film products.
One film will focus on me and perhaps two or three other men you know well.

A movie about Mike, Vox, and Milo? Dare I dream?

Is this a Vox Day blogpost? Am I seeing correctly, or is it just the booze? This is a lot more personal, and vulnerable, than I'd expect from the Supreme Dark Lord of the Evil Legion of Evil.

I highly recommend Lanny Bassham's book "With Winning in Mind." Mental discipline tools from a guy who was no good at sports...so he found a sport he could be good at.

And retired as World and Olympic Champion.

He stresses the need for positive thinking. Confidence. Inner Game.

> Mike is right. Mindset is absolutely key;

The correct mindset doesn't guarantee success in any given endeavor, but without out it, failure is almost a certainty. And it allows you to take your inevitable failures, learn from them, and come back even stronger.

In my experience, it's not so much as expecting to succeed at an endeavor, but knowing that you're capable of succeeding at it. Once you know that, it doesn't matter if you lose occasionally.

Anonymous SmileyFacedKiller January 01, 2016 10:18 PM

This is a weird synchronicity. I was just telling the wife today that I have started to become aware that I'm somewhat pessimistic. Reading Mike's blog was what made me aware of that, and I'm planning to buy Gorilla Mindset.

Anyway, here's a hint I take away from Mike's writings: it ain't vulnerability when you identify the areas of improvement you will focus on.

English is cucked Nordic to provoke a little, as they used to say I will.

A free man of English stock was compelled by wyrd or fate for the the heathens, and providence, predestination, or deism for the non-catholic Christians.

English have mingled together will, want, shall, guilt, law, love in some very weird way, that interestingly enough show that English is a Nordic language, as the meaning(use) of the word have been kept, but the words have changed. More evidence that a word's meaning is determined by how a word is used, that is the grammatical role it is made to fill, as well.

For starters, English have replaced the word sculd with guilt, the Nordic word for monetary debt. Guilt is used as it is the old word skuld though, while debt is used for the old guilt.

Next is law-love, where the latin word legal is used for bonds based on law, as the old word love has taken the place of words for the bonds you feel.

Now to the word will, where this have taken on the legal definition in English, as no Nordic "will" follow the law, he can/should/shall/must follow the law, regardless of his will, as will is used where you have a choice, but you still do it.
You want to go to heaven though.

PS. The jews are claiming nebbish, and while the root nebb=beak is gone out of use in English, to nibble, to nab and varieties have survived. Nebbish as a birdlike person that nabs and nibbles at everything, but can easily be scared off, have survived in English dialects as well.

@9 When in war, men operate optimally as compartmentalized identities. Ruthless warriors can come home and be tender and loving to their kindred with a flip of a switch.

The Dark Lord is setting an example on the value of self-introspection and adaptability; I suggest you do not second guess him.

Blogger Phillip George January 02, 2016 12:59 AM

interesting article @24Tunglet.
One of the reasons we know DNA is God talking is that one string has multiple levels of syntactic meaning. The same string means different coherent things at different levels.

For one string of letters in any language to have perfectly coherent meaning in two different languages is beyond any human comprehension. But one example off the top of my head is Hamas. In hebrew the phoneme constituting same, means violent and wrong. In ARABIC it is an acronym for Islamic Resistance Movement.

the same word means two things in two different language and both are perfectly convergent in prophesy.

It is impossible I reckon to say anything without multiple levels of meaning.
Words are dynamic and the full meaning is a time dependent algorithm. My intentions now can and do create unintended effects. It isn't morphing. It's more a matter of revealing. One more dynamic reason the blood of Jesus Christ is fear and trembling in all the Earth. I covet what I have, is a time dependent algorithm

Keep at it. Just from reading your blog and others like it, my political and spiritual interior has been revitalized in a way I wouldn't have thought possible a year ago. I have no doubt that Castalia House will meet and exceed your expectations. Already I believe that that name, 'Castalia House', would be more valuable on the cover of a book than 'Hugo Award-Winning'. I would be proud to see that name beside mine along the spine of a book.

No, I should take your advice. I will see 'Castalia House' beside my name along the spine of something that I have written. That is my goal. Sometime in 2017. It will happen.

Good luck during 2016 from this newly-minted Ilk. I'll be watching the Rapid and Sad Puppies campaigns closely. Whatever is needed, I'll do what I can. And the Rapids have my priority, however much sympathy I may have for the Sads.

Nate, VD, and other ilk,
Awwww now I'm blushing!

But yeah, as there are now a few of us in Europe, and as none of us enjoy the rectal probing of the US border entry, maybe Nate can fly out instead.

As for mindset, I have always agreed with this from a young age due to martial arts. A good mindset can often make up for even gaps in skill and execution, but almost nothing can make up for a gap in mindset.

Exciting times and ideas, but continue to stop and smell the roses along the way. A little laziness now and then is essential to a joyful life.

Blogger Tank January 02, 2016 8:39 AM

When I was a young man I was fat, depressed and unsuccessful. A year of therapy taught me two important lessons:

1. View the world as objectively as possible.

2. Be a doer, not a thinker.

Those were the keys to my having a lifetime of being fit, reasonably successful and happy.

This: going from a day dreamer to a doer
is the biggest thing. Just think about how it applies in game. Even a guy with lousy game and not much going for him will do better by doing.

@13 Cinco:
I'm a high-level competitor in the shooting sports myself. Once you get to a national or world championship level with a real shot at winning, the mental aspects dominate.

Blogger Nate January 02, 2016 10:31 AM

" Once you get to a national or world championship level with a real shot at winning, the mental aspects dominate"

There was a study once being done on the mental aspect of sports and concentration. The scientists hooked a competitive long range rifle team. It quickly turned into a competition to see who could make the machine go blank fast enough.

Actually... The "progressive" operating paradigm has been "we want" and the mob willed...

So there is the matter of moving one's self against the mob mass and then one's self moving the mob masses.

The reason the "I"s say "want" is because Mike Cernovich moves mobs that crush "I's" wills.

Blogger Thordaddy January 02, 2016 3:10 PM

I just looked at Mike's image... How is he not evidence of wS?

White. Check.
Believes in objective Supremacy. Check.
Rejects "universal equality." Check.

wS??? No?

"I'm too prone to thinking about things, and planning things, and contemplating things, and not actually DOING things."

I noticed this too, but I don't necessarily condemn it as a weakness out of hand. I'm just the opposite, too prone to acting without covering all the bases. It took me a long time to realize it, after all I'm smart & educated; but when I did, I gathered people with compensating talents around me. Just as you're doing right now. I can tell you there will be times when you think they're reckless & foolhardy, just as there are times I think my people lack imagination and drive & are always dragging their feet when I think time is of the essence.

Blogger RobertT January 02, 2016 5:36 PM

I've started doing this as well. Also, I recently decided to let my narcissism off the leash. My practice has grown from a small local practice into a elite strategy firm with clients in 46 states through referrals by enthusiastic clients. But apparently it was basically luck. Not long ago my best referral agents, those work with a lot of businesses and tell people I walk on water, started telling me not to be so humble. "Tell them you're the man. They expect to hear that and you're not saying it." That's a wake up call if ever their was one.

Anonymous Tunglet January 03, 2016 5:02 AM

@28. Groot

Norwegian.

Not really an ethnicity though, as it is the waterway from Lubeck to the North cape originally The old names was Nor-rige, and it's inhabitants were Northmen, Nordmänner.

When the North-reich turned to Norway, I don't know, but it looks like that was the name after the Kalmar Union, that ruled the complete north way, until the Swedes rebelled and grabbed Scania.

The English, French and Austrians had in the mean time named areas within their own borders Norrich, Normandie and Nordreich, so Norway, Norwegen, Norvege stuck.
