If you want to play Hugos

And you didn't vote in the final round last year, you'll have to register today or tomorrow in order to be able to vote in the nominations.
The Hugo Awards voting process has two stages: a nomination period and a final voting period. During the nomination period ballots may be cast by members of MidAmeriCon II and Worldcon 75 (as of January 31) and members from Sasquan, the 73rd Worldcon.
Just a reminder for those who would have liked to be able to participate last time. The Rabid Puppy List of Recommendations That Is Most Certainly Not a Slate, Much Less a Direct Order From the Supreme Dark Lord of the Evil Legion of Evil will be posted in February.

I really hope we make them shriek like baby rabbits this time. Despite them burning down their own village to save it, they were still able to gloat about winning.

Always advance the Truth, there is no rational counter to that. I'm nobody's rabid minion.....but I'm ready to vote!

Blogger Dave January 30, 2016 6:58 PM

So it's a clean slate in other words. Oh sorry, meant to say it's a fresh start, a new beginning, a blank slate?

Always recommended when SJWs are even potentially involved.

Memberships are good for 2 years, correct?

Blogger VD January 30, 2016 7:15 PM

Sort of. Read the rules. A membership is good for voting one year and nominating the next. Or, if you get it soon enough, you can nominate one year, vote that year, and then nominate the next. But you can never vote two years.

Blogger Dave January 30, 2016 7:20 PM

So all those new voters from last year get a freebie this year.

Blogger VD January 30, 2016 7:27 PM

Yes, so if they stay disciplined, they can dictate the nominations. If, the Lacedaemonians said.

Blogger Dave January 30, 2016 7:30 PM

Didn't see your post Vox before my last post.

Most interesting. All the new voters last year must re-up to vote this year. We'll have to see how many have the zeal to noah ward as many or more categories this year.

Blogger Young Heaving Bosoms of Liberty January 30, 2016 7:35 PM

If we voted both for nominations and for the finals, we need to register anew, right?

Blogger Achilles January 30, 2016 7:37 PM

I look forward to hearing your plans for the Hugos. Hopefully it involves crushing our enemies, seeing them driven out of the Hugos, and hearing the lamentations of their grotesque women.

Not necessarily.

Blogger Dave January 30, 2016 7:44 PM

@YHBL

If you signed up last year you are good for nominating but will need re-up to vote as I understand Vox's post

Blogger pyrrhus January 30, 2016 8:38 PM

I thought it was a 2 year deal....

Blogger Pseudotsuga January 30, 2016 8:39 PM

Make sure to read MidAmericon's Code of Conduct if you plan to go!
I look forward to the next wave of good fiction to nominate.

Blogger GK Chesterton January 30, 2016 8:47 PM

Pay once nominate twice (depending on how early you paid up) and vote ONCE. If you voted last year you should be good this year to NOMINATE.

So one simply purchases a 'Supporting' membership from this page?:

Personal Photography / Recordings:
Please be polite and ask before taking photographs or recordings of attendees and members whenever possible. Remember that just because someone is in costume does not mean that they are automatically granting permission to be photographed. Video and audio recording and photography for personal archival use only is generally acceptable unless individuals make it clear that they do not want to be photographed or recorded. In that case, any photographing or recording them is expressly forbidden.

I'm debating whether to attend, but I think this is pretty crucial. In all honesty I don't see how wandering a small convention center partially filled with fat old feminists and assorted other pedophiles is fun. I suppose wearing urban battle rattle and an MHI patch would be worth the investment.

There might be a problem-

Eligible nominators received both a membership Number and a PIN. The memberships number was assigned to you by MidAmericon II, Sasquan, or Worldcon 75.
PINs from Sasquan have been invalidated. You MUST use the numbers assigned by MidAmeriCon II.
For those who join MidAmeriCon II after January 31 but were a member of either Sasquan or Worldcon 75: You will receive different MidAmeriCon II voting and PIN numbers once Hugo voting opens. The current PIN entitles you only to nominate.

Have any supporting members from last year's Sasquan vote received their new MidAmeriCon II PIN yet?

Blogger Achilles January 30, 2016 10:26 PM

@20 - I took it to mean new pins will be emailed to Sasquan members to replace the old ones. Whether they actually do is another matter.

Anonymous Valiant January 30, 2016 10:51 PM

Should I renew with sasquan to vote. I'm pretty sure u can nominatr, since I voted in finals last year.

Blogger Unknown January 30, 2016 10:54 PM

Nominatr= nominate
U = I

I have had some nice peanut no ear, I know weird, not in summer right? So I am making some spelling errors.

I did nominate and final vote last year. That means I can nominate this year, righhhhhht?

Anonymous WaterBoy January 30, 2016 11:03 PM

So I see that Tor posted a list of their eligible works. Does Castalia House plan to post a list of their eligible works? I saw nothing on the blog there, yet.

Blogger The Deuce January 30, 2016 11:27 PM

Let's place bets on how many SJWs self-harm if SJWs Always Lie gets nominated under Related Work.

Anonymous Spartacus xxxxx January 31, 2016 12:10 AM

@20 I attempted to log in at
http://midamericon2.org/the-hugo-awards/hugo-nominations/2016-hugo-awards-nominations/
using the Sasquan PIN and Membership number. You know, the Sasquan Membership # and PIN that you got when you put up your money in good faith as per the advertised Terms & Conditions.

I received this:

Invalid Membership Number or PIN

Maybe it's merely something to be sorted out. Did anybody receive any prior notification by email that PINs from Sasquan have been invalidated?

Anonymous LurkingPuppy January 31, 2016 12:43 AM

@28: Did anybody receive any prior notification by email that PINs from Sasquan have been invalidated?

No, but I also never received any notification that the PINs issued by Sasquan for use in Sasquan voting and starting with “SQ” would be valid for MidAmeriCon 2 in the first place. They say that MidAmeriCon 2 nomination PINs will be sent out by February 5, so don't complain until then.

Blogger Achilles January 31, 2016 12:51 AM

@28 on the MidAmericaCon site it says Sasquan PINs are invalid. They will email new pins to Sasquan members for nominations. Supposedly by the Feb 5th. Your old PIN will not work. If you don't get an email with a new pin by Feb 5th email them on Feb 6th. If they don't give Puppies new pins we start a class action lawsuit. For now, it's a waiting game.

Yes, that's right, new PINs by Feb 5. (how? who?)
But unless you're registered by Jan 31 you can't nominate, so the new PIN won't help you. This may only be a screw up, we'll see.

Blogger Adhemar De Lepuy January 31, 2016 1:20 AM

By Mahomet's Stinky Right Hand! MidAmeriCon II has a Pederast Pass!

This is one of the options on the registration page:

Kid-in-Tow – A Kid-in-Tow pass allows a child no more than 5 years old at the time of the convention to attend the convention in the company of a member. There is no charge for a Kid-in-Tow pass.

I wonder if they have a Pederast Pass Fast Lane right to the Safe Space Rape Room?

Anonymous LurkingPuppy January 31, 2016 1:44 AM

@31: But unless you're registered by Jan 31 you can't nominate, so the new PIN won't help you.

“registered” is not the same as having a PIN. People who are registered for MidAmeriCon 2 by January 31 will receive a Hugo nominating PIN by February 5. People who are registered for next year's WorldCon in Helsinki by January 31 will receive a Hugo nominating PIN by February 5. People who were registered for Sasquan will receive a Hugo nominating PIN by February 5.

Why are people having so much trouble understanding the text on their website? It seemed quite simple and straightforward to me.

Blogger Ingot9455 January 31, 2016 2:11 AM

If only I could nominate Somewhither five times.

Blogger Bibliotheca Servare January 31, 2016 3:44 AM

Would it be eligible? If so, I'm going to be kicking myself for not suggesting it for SP4... SJWAL nominated for a Hugo...such a beautiful thought.

Anonymous Mook January 31, 2016 4:03 AM

If I understand the rules correctly, a single vote counts as 5 one fifth votes.

Blogger Didact January 31, 2016 10:23 AM

Just finished registering for the 2016 MidAmeriCon. It goes without saying that I will of course be voting for works on The Rabid Puppy List of Recommendations That Is Most Certainly Not a Slate, Much Less a Direct Order From the Supreme Dark Lord of the Evil Legion of Evil based solely on merit and not under ANY form of orders or instructions from ANYONE.

That will be next year.

@38 Won't be if there are enough of us at the business meeting to vote them down.  Hint, hint.

@33. LurkingPuppy

People who were registered for Sasquan will receive a Hugo nominating PIN by February 5.

Why are people having so much trouble understanding the text on their website? It seemed quite simple and straightforward to me.

I read this, and thought that it closed the nomination period-
"You may nominate for the 2016 Hugo Awards and John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer if, on or before January 31, 2016, 11:59 pm PST (7:59 am GMT on February 1, 2016): (if this and that)"

But I didn't read this at the top-
"Hugo Award and John W. Campbell Award nominations will close at 11:59pm Pacific Daylight Time on Thursday March 31, 2016."

I think I goofed. Sorry about that.

Anonymous LurkingPuppy February 01, 2016 3:54 AM

@40: Okay, that explains the confusion.
