Fox in general and Megyn Kelly in particular are obsessed with Trump. Very unprofessional, and Cruz missed an opportunity be not saying so.

Anonymous Wild Bill January 28, 2016 9:11 PM

I will not grace Fox News with one of my views. I'll jump over to CNN who is covering Trump just to spite them.

Blogger David of One January 28, 2016 9:14 PM

There hasn't been any debates to date. It has been a media circus rife with the rabble of "journalists" and spectators both ... a spectacle ... a show.

This is no "Republican" "debate" unless that definition fits into the three-ring kind with elephants "performing", posing, posturing for attention all the while performing at the beck and call of non-republicans, felonious illegals, perverse performers of victimhood and crybullies.

Anonymous Wyrd January 28, 2016 9:16 PM

Cruz's super pac was offering $1.5mm to veteran charity if Trump debate him one on one. It is a shame the Trump and Cruz campaigns couldn't pull it together for tonight at Trump's counter-debate event. That would have been a kill shot for both Fox and the RNC establishment, it would turn the 'official' debate into the de-facto undercard, guaranteed Trump's walk away looked brilliant, given Cruz his one on one, and demonstrated both real leadership and anti-establishment bona fides for both Trump and Cruz, and gotten Cruz to the top of the short list for Trump's VP if he doesn't beat him. A shame they didn't pull it off by mutually benefitting from crushing their mutual enemies.

Bonus, no illegal gotchas, no Kasich interruptions.

The music is horrible at CNN. My rescue dog, who normally only howls at other animals and sex scenes on tv, is taking it to the screen now.

I don't know if she's excited because she knows Trump is coming on or if it's in protest of the Elton John song?

Blogger Rantor January 28, 2016 9:23 PM

During commercial we turned to debate. Kasich was talking. Mrs Rantor asked for him to be muted. Now watching Trump. He's talking about donors, protesters started shouting and crowd drowned them out.

Wait, what? Cruz should offer $3million to Trump's event tonight.

But! The day after 1/28 and months to follow the funds collected will be audited to what was allocated/given to whom.

Have any election/policy issues gave chase to the stage?

First debate I have seen this cycle (well half of it, I have been in and out). If I try to base solely on this debate. I feel like Paul won this, mostly by not pissing me off and being well composed. Cruz said the right things, but just feels like a robot. The rest can go pound sand.

Of course, I am not a terribly big fan of Rand if I expand my information beyond just tonight. I wouldn't completely discount voting for him, but he has no chance so its just Trump or Cruz who I will vote for.

the answer from Trump to Cruz should be, "Donate the money to the vets and stop trying to play games with their welfare, you pussy. We can work out a debate some other time. Or, you know, you can come to my rally tonight and we can do it right now."

37. Gaiseric January 28, 2016 10:01 PM
Cruz may be realty smart, but he's neither trustworthy bit likable.

Cruz really snaked around when they ( legitimately ) pinned him on his contradictory assertions of "it was a poison pill amendment" / "i'm amending it in good faith in order to get it passed".

fact:
Cruz has lied about this. that is unequivocal. either he wanted that bill to pass OR he amended that bill in order to ensure that it got killed. you don't get it both ways.

my opinion:
it was a poison pill.

my suggested 'proper' response: fucking own it like a boss, you douche.

jeezus, Trump should have demonstrated by now that pro-CITIZEN policies are going to be the kill shot this cycle.

stand up, say that "everybody makes poison pill amendments, Robert Byrd and Teddy Kennedy made careers of it, yes i did it to kill that bill. because, as we all KNOW, Demoncrats don't give a fuck about illegals unless they can get votes out of them so the Demoncrats can steal more elections."

OWN that and call it out. nobody from the populist front is going to be offended by that at all.

Cruz is technically Natural Born Citizen, although he violates the spirit of the concept.

Rubio isn't a Natural Born Citizen at all, neither of his parents were citizens when he was born.

RNC rules prohibit unsanctioned debates. If Trump accepts Cruz's offer, they'll both be cut off from party funds, unable to participate in future debates, etc.

When I was trying to find the exact rules, all I could find were new stories from when the schedule was first announced. Hilariously, there are lots of quotes about how the debates will be informative, and not circuses. This part appears to have been a lie, so now I'm doubting the part about the excommunications too.

My rigorous scientific experiments have failed to produce this "over-caffeination". If anything, they have only suggested we are not caffeinated enough, and that more study is therefore required.

Trump if he bothered to reply would say "Eh, not bad but I've had better." and it would be entirely true..

That said Megyn is easy on the eyes and when she doesn't let her jerk-boy attraction to Trump take over her mouth , a decent interviewer. Not as much fun as Lisa Ling but the MK GQ shoot is nice. Not the way to impress people with her IQ and credentials (an actual JD) mind but plenty sexy.

The Trump campaign has been a joy to behold. Trying to strike him down seems to only make him stronger. Besides, watching various heads explode along the way is comedic gold. I don't know what kind of a president he would be but a Trump win would be hilarious fun to watch if only because of the people who would be made apoplectic by it.

I think a winning strategy would be for Trump to get with Cruz, have their one on one after telling him that if his funding is cut not to worry. I, Trump, will take up your funding load if you will here and now agree to be my VP running mate.
I could vote for such a ticket.

Looking back at how this last debate developed I came to the conclusion that, say, Cruz, had kept his mouth shut, and his opening lines at the debate had been:

"No, the elephant is not missing. There is an elephant in the room and that elephant is FOX. FOX chose to insinuate itself into the nominating process. The aim of these debates is to let the viewers get insight into the contestants. Is Ms. Nabela Noor an employee of FOX? That is called sandbagging. and we know who the target was. Is the goal of FOX in carrying this debate to serve the public good? Isn't that what the FCC license is supposed to guarantee? So, FOX chose to put the interest of an employee ahead of the purpose of the debate. I think Trump took the correct action for him. FOX's complete mismanagement, no, abuse, of the sacred ritual and process of selecting who might become the president of these uSA is the issue."

Cruz would have made it into a two man race.

OpenID RambleAround January 29, 2016 11:38 AM

Numbers are trickling in. Looks like FOX definitely took a hit, though not as substantial a hit as was expected. Significantly lower than last CNN debate, and 2nd lowest GOP debate to date: http://money.cnn.com/2016/01/29/media/republican-debate-ratings-donald-trump/index.html

@72: He pumped and dumped the biggest news organization in the country, and made 'her' beg him to take her back. I admit; even I'm agog at his success. It's stunning. Whatever else may or may not be true about the man, he is a strategic genius, and watching his plan unfold has been the best political theater of my lifetime.

Anonymous bw January 29, 2016 12:32 PM

It's stunning

It just simply highlights the fact that every single politician for decades has been a literal part of the machine. Purposefully. Knowingly.
Both politico and machine knew it - the control of perceptions.
It's such a controlled octopus that when someone actually just says "go to hell" - which any man and leader should say constantly - everyone can't believe it and thinks the guy is some type of demi-god.

It speaks FAR more of what they've done and how they've done it.

Blogger Drew January 29, 2016 12:46 PM

Fox is hurt. Even if it's not immediately apparent in the ratings for this evening, the mask has been pretty thoroughly ripped off of them now. Their trustworthiness and credibility with the exact segment of the populace that has made them the ratings leaders all these years is in tatters.
