Shadowbanned by SJWs

Twitter knows the SJWs can't win on a level playing field, which is why they are attempting to silence the influential voices of the social media Right:
Rumours that Twitter has begun ‘shadowbanning’ politically inconvenient users have been confirmed by a source inside the company, who spoke exclusively to Breitbart Tech. His claim was corroborated by a senior editor at a major publisher.

According to the source, Twitter maintains a ‘whitelist’ of favoured Twitter accounts and a ‘blacklist’ of unfavoured accounts. Accounts on the whitelist are prioritised in search results, even if they’re not the most popular among users. Meanwhile, accounts on the blacklist have their posts hidden from both search results and other users’ timelines.

Our source was backed up by a senior editor at a major digital publisher, who told Breitbart that Twitter told him it deliberately whitelists and blacklists users. He added that he was afraid of the site’s power, noting that his tweets could disappear from users’ timelines if he got on the wrong side of the company.

Shadowbanning, sometimes known as “Stealth Banning” or “Hell Banning,” is commonly used by online community managers to block content posted by spammers. Instead of banning a user directly (which would alert the spammer to their status, prompting them to create a new account), their content is merely hidden from public view.

For site owners, the ideal shadowban is when a user never realizes he’s been shadowbanned.

However, Twitter isn’t merely targeting spammers. For weeks, users have been reporting that tweets from populist conservatives, members of the alternative right, cultural libertarians, and other anti-PC dissidents have disappeared from their timelines.

Among the users complaining of shadowbans are sci-fi author and alt-right figurehead Vox Day, geek culture blogger “Daddy Warpig,” and the popular pro-Trump account Ricky Vaughn. League of Gamers founder and former World of Warcraft team lead Mark Kern, as well as adult actress and anti-censorship activist Mercedes Carrera, have also reported that their tweets are not appearing on the timelines of their followers.
It's pretty easy to tell when you're being shadowbanned because your notifications decline dramatically. It's also easy to see it in the 28-day profile.

Notice how despite the number of tweets being flat and the number of followers increasing, the number of impressions and profile visits dropped significantly at precisely the same time. As it happens, that's right when I noticed my notifications declining and people began letting me know that they weren't seeing my tweets.

The reason mentions don't drop as heavily is because for an account with less than 10,000 followers, many of my mentions are not made in response to my tweets and are therefore not affectived by the shadowban.

But never fear. Alternatives are on the way.

Jack Dorsey has been a magnificent disaster for Twitter.

As far as I can tell he didn't really found anything, Twitter started as a spinoff.

His only real talent is extracting capital from SJW oriented VC firms. I will grant he is good at that but he initially got shit canned from Twitter for consistently leaving work early to attend yoga and fashion design classes and no, I'm not kidding.

This is why totalitarians always hate the market. People innately resent being told what to think, and many will push back regardless of the subject simply because of the arm-twisting.

No army can resist an idea whose time has come. Left-collectivist tyrants have squatted on the Moral High Ground because the desire to evict them has not (quite yet) coalesced; people were simply too fat, dumb and happy to give a rat's ass about a bunch of shrill harpies, queers and other Intolerance-is-Intolerable Tyrants.

Second, hold a lottery for whites, the losers of which get beaten by cops, arrested, charged, tried, convicted and imprisoned, in enough numbers to equal the proportionate representation of blacks who didn't win the early-release lottery.

They've created the SJW Brown Shirt Youth at my college. I'm afraid my days of teaching will not be long. Here is the actual email I received about the creation of student Diversity Change Agents (DCAs):

Dear *** community,

I am pleased to announce the formation of the Diversity Change Agents (DCAs), a new diversity initiative of the Offices of the Dean of the College, and more specifically, the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMCA). The DCAs are 13 students who have been selected and trained to facilitate a peer-to-peer workshop entitled Social Justice 101 (SJ101), a 1hr introductory-level workshop meant to introduce students to topics of multiculturalism and social justice.

● The DCA workshop is designed to:

o increase awareness of the effects of bias, discrimination, privilege, and power within nine categories of social justice; Race/Ethnicity, Gender, Class, Ability, Gender Identity, Sexual Orientation, Religion, National Identity, and Age

o increase commitment to be allies for other groups

o increase the likelihood that students will safely and actively interrupt or challenge bias, prejudice, and discrimination whether it is intentional or unintentional

o help participants develop a personal development plan for 1) increasing their understanding of people from different backgrounds, 2) developing their capacity for empathy, and 3) increasing their skill in addressing discrimination and privilege in daily life

The dynamic DCAs stand ready to bring SJ101 to groups such as student clubs/organizations, Greek organizations, student governments, teams, halls within College Houses, and offices or departments that prepare students for off-campus experiences, etc. Group leaders, offices, and departments can request a workshop on behalf of a group of students. The individual members of the group who plan to participate will then be asked to complete a registration form (registration is free). In the near future, we will offer workshop dates that individual students can sign-up to attend on their own and not as a member of an organization. Those workshops will happen once enough individuals have signed up for them. To request a workshop for a group or to express your individual interest, please complete The Workshop Request Form so that Dean *** or ***(our OMCA Intern) can follow-up with you. Please note: eight is the minimum number for a workshop, 25 is the max. If your group is larger than 25, we would recommend having multiple sessions.

Thanks for your time. We hope to be workshopping with you soon.

Anonymous BluePony February 17, 2016 4:27 PM

The issue you run into is that they are private companies and illegal censorship is a government thing. At least that's what everyone trots out when I complain about censorship on Twitter, Facebook, etc.

The problem is that we have these unelected, private, de facto gatekeepers to vast regions of global communications who can pick and choose what voices get heard. I'm no legal expert, so I have no idea what can be cone about it other than develop alternatives like is being done. I wish I had the coding skills to help.

It won't be an easy road. The MSM will definitely back their ideological cousins on the Internet.

This is just a stage in Twitter's decline. As they drive away more and more of the people who don't like being gagged the SJWs will have no prey left but each other. Then they will get down to the serious work of self-destruction. Non-SJWs will have no option but to go elsewhere. Whether they learn the lesson is doubtful but a few will get it and all will benefit even so.

@50 @51 What is there to sue?

Go after the government or a multinational, never a small or medium business (unless they blow a carbolic smoke ball up your ass obviously ).

OT but too funny what if the man is like Bill C?
http://www.local10.com/health/lawmaker-wants-viagra-users-to-get-wifes-permission-first

If you thought govt was getting too big before. As the mountains of intrusive regulations rise ever higher, it becomes ever more difficult for our rulers to come up with new aspects of our lives to control. A state lawmaker has resorted to demanding that men acquire their wive’s permission before taking Viagra, of course a democrat

I support anyone whom Twitter chooses to shadowban this way: you are merely speaking truth to power.
This outrage can only but amplify your voices.
We need to hang in there and stand with those ppl who have dared to commit wrongthink and tweet ungood thought crimes.
Go to Vox, Kearn, Nero-and anyone else you know of-timelines and retweet the hell out of em.
I'm still FNG on Twitter but a hashtag in support of the shadowbanned would be nice as well, imho.

I read through some Tweeter exchanges during the peer review slapfest, and VD has blocked at least one guy for being a liar.

Let's be fair, a Coward/Liar blocklist would be pretty awesome. If adopted by a significant fraction of users, Twitter could run off a vintage Amiga.

Shadowbanning is the least of Twitter's problems, though. I suppose it might be okay as a public SMS conversation aggregator, but with every message slathered with @ mentions, clever-stupid #hashtags and contentless short-URLs, it comes across like a foreign language. And learning Tweeterese is not like learning a cool foreign language like French or Russian. It's more like a fat guy who learned how to speak Esperanto and Klingon. For a platform supposedly all about conversations, trying to follow any Twitter thread on their web interface is more akin to eating glass.

Twitter is a thing of the 2000s. Any Tweeter replacement should shuck the constraints imposed by ridiculous SMS limits. That said, Twitter should remain viable as the prime broadcast medium for the natives of Papua New Guinea to read the latest news from Taylor Swift on their charity Motorola RAZRs.

Anybody notice the leftard is the first "person" to use a curse word in this comment section?

an oppressively misogynistic curse word.

the "oppressive misogyny" being the only thing really wrong with it ...

73, 74, the swear bears in costumes or cosplay must curse. Our host and the staff or whomever has a replacement for Twitr.

Patience.

24 Around 2012 wordpress was glitching or censoring a few of my blog posts. I left to care for family, also my content wasn't that great. I was trying to improve my communication skillz, current events, boring really.

Returning to this important matter, its well documented here. The humor is that in 116 characters Trump, Vox, Milo, Roissy (chateauheasite) made a great impact at twitr so all that matters is how twitr exposed its own policies!

I deleted my twitter account this week.

My main joy on twitter were the alt-right lols. Facebook is next.

Instead of deleting fb entirely I thought I would just go through and clean everything, all the likes and tags and all that (we rarely post). It is next to impossible. Even if you dont post stupid status updates, there are so many likes and tags and people posting on your wall... I finally bought an app on google chrome; it deleted some stuff, left other stuff.

Bottom line, I got so mad that Im deleting the account. However, we may open a new fake account, friend the basic people, block access to our wall and tell people not to tag us...

I know, "cool story, bro"

@58: "Higher Ed is mortally wounded. I see no possible path where (puking in my mouth) stakeholders are ejected or shot. Leviathan-the-parasite is too deeply burrowed to be removed without killing the host.

Do you disagree?"

Education's moving online just like everything else. There's no reason not to let the universities fallow. They've become worse than useless, they're detrimental and the damage they've already caused is immeasurable.

Blogger Doom February 18, 2016 3:32 AM

More than that. Your blog, from time to time, doesn't appear on my various browsers. I'm not sure why, exactly. For sure on Iron, sometimes, I can't read most, sometimes any, text from your blog here. Seems to always work on Pale Moon, but I can't easily block advertising on Pale Moon, not everywhere.

I'll follow suit and dump twitr as well, too bad though I only began it a few months back or stay? I can read parts of Chatuea Roissy's tweets at his Game blog.

97, or one could label acct as a dysinfo or misinfo versus fake.

In the spirit of giving up useless SJW services, I took the opportunity to switch from paid GitHub to GitLab (online version) last week. Technically speaking, GitLab seems to have more or less the same features and be more actively developed. My simple repos could be imported with a couple of clicks. From the business standpoint, GitLab gives you free private repos while GitHub wants to get paid for that. And socially, it feels good to no longer support a disingenuous 'Social Impact' team with my $$$.

I kept the GitHub account because it's now free and still convenient for the open stuff and for tracking other open repos. But maybe it will go away at a later stage too.

Blogger Shimshon February 18, 2016 7:14 AM

Only reason I'm on Twitter is to follow a few figureheads (can there be more than one?) like Vox. I remember discussing last year on a VP post various technical aspects for a replacement/successor. Look forward to what's coming.

Blogger BunE22 February 18, 2016 11:14 AM

I'm not a atwitter user, I just follow people to read their tweets. I also don't see Vox's tweets anymore and I'd have to go through the list I follow to see who else is gone.

But I have a question. Didn't the feed used to be based on when the tweet was made? I use an iPad, on my page it was always newest tweets up top. Today they're all mixed up. Tweets made 23 minutes ago mixed in with tweets made 11 hours ago. Am I the only one seeing this?

Blogger BunE22 February 18, 2016 11:24 AM

Ok, so I unfollowed Instapundit to see if his retweets were messing things up, then refreshed and saw a tweet from Vox. I think retweets are messing up the timeline of the feed.

In a cluster of recent tweets a retweet from 9 Feb shows up. Hmm. This is weird.

@52. kudzu bob

The real battle is for the hearts and minds of the normies. What sort of bait could be used to lure them to an AltRight-friendly social media platform?

Celebrities.

Stephen Fry has been driven off Twitter. Snare him and you might snare his 12 million Twitter followers.

Seriously, a lot of celebrities are starting to discover that a world without freedom of speech is not so great after all. Even celebrities are not safe from the Thought Police.

Dave wrote:And figurehead is a strange word to use; are you part of the royal family now?

I noticed that too, but it works because although he's nominally our Supreme Dark Lord, he's really more like the lightning rod that catches all the flak. Which is a leadership trait, but still, it's probably easier to milk cats than herd ilk.

Making mixed metaphors great again!

Blogger The Exile February 21, 2016 8:05 PM

I'm not going to quit Twitter. I'm going to make them ban me. Should be great fun.

I suggest those of you who are leaving Twitter do the same.
