The evils of SF fandom

It's time to shut down all science fiction-related conventions. They are obviously dens of pure racist, sexist, homophobic iniquity. Frankly, it is very, very hard to read this tale of SJW-on-SJW woe without shedding a tear or three. Of pure schadenfreudesque amusement:
On Friday night, at a room party in the main hotel, my partner Baize was sexually and racially harassed by someone attending the same dance party: Liz Gooch. At multiple points during the evening, she gestured behind him as if she were going to grab his butt. She kept referring to it as his "juicy booty." She danced around him and told me to "not let this sweet piece of chocolate go." Despite that our body language clearly showed discomfort, Liz would not stop harassing either of us. We had to move to another side of the room, and we eventually told the person running the party what she was doing. We both considered that perhaps she had been so forward and gross because she was drunk, but I had multiple interactions with Liz Gooch when she was sober following that night. The next morning, she was leaving an elevator as I was getting in a different one. She turned around and made a number of sexual gestures while pointing at Baize, which including kissing faces, winks, and licking her lips in an exaggerated manner.

On Sunday afternoon, I was the moderator on a panel titled, “Erasure is Not Equality.” This panel was specifically about the erasure of people of color in historical fiction, fantasy, and other genres. I was the only person on the panel who was not white. Furthermore, not one person on the panel seemed to understand the point of the panel, which was to talk about erasure. Instead, the conversation teetered between self-righteous back-patting and flat-out racism. Within the first five minutes of the start of the panel, I brought up a topic for us to discuss: how “historical accuracy” is often poorly used as a defense of the erasure of people of color. One panelist, Chris Gerrib, then began to talk about how people misunderstood history. The “Indian” people in Central America were already busy “killing each other” by the time the Spaniards arrived. When I asked for clarification, Gerrib confirmed that he believed that the Spaniards were “unfairly blamed” for the genocide of the indigenous cultures in Central America. I was so horrified by his continued talk of this ahistorical point that, after very little conversation, I asked that we change topic.

This set a tone for the remainder of the panel, which was easily the worst panel I have ever been a part of. All three of the white panelists confidently stated things that were simply not true; each of them kept saying “Indian” when they actually meant Native American or indigenous; every few minutes, more than half the audience was viscerally horrified by what the other panelists said. At one point, Jan Gephardt derailed the panel into talking about women instead of race and said that she was “happy to see any sort of women, like black or white or green.” Gerrib then chimed in with, “Or purple.” She also responded to a lengthy point that myself and an audience member made about the physical and emotional injury that can come from experiencing racism by reminding us that “racism is not real” because race “is just a social construct.” During a different conversation about how many authors mistakenly blur the line between different cultural groups, Chris Gerrib jokingly said, “Did you know that the Japanese aren’t the same as the Chinese?” Jan’s response? The Japanese and Chinese just think they’re different in their heads. She heavily implied that they were mistaken in this belief.

Holly Messinger, a ConQuesT staff member, was also on the panel. She spent a great deal of time talking only about her own work, repeating the message that she had read “five books on Indians” and that she had written her first black character, who kept the white character “sane.” She stated at one point that she was “terrified” about the response her book would get because people would get “mad” about her writing an “Indian” character. When I asked for clarification – specifically, was she worried about getting representation wrong? – she told the room that she had no concern about that. She’d read five books about “Indians.” She was concerned that people of color would misinterpret her.

There were many more incidents on this panel, and I could not recount them all here. The panel ended on a sour note, too. Baize spoke up and pointed out that part of the problem with erasure was that there was only one person of color on a panel about race. Holly Messinger shot back, “Well, we’re in the Midwest.” I left the panel feeling drained and numb. If you were at ConQuesT that weekend and you wondered why Closing Ceremonies started late, it’s my fault. I dashed up to my hotel room to cry because I felt so triggered, rejected, and alone. I’ve been on uncomfortable panels, but this was unique. The entire panel was argumentative; my questions as moderator were constantly avoided or ignored; anything I tried to state was fought or dismissed or contradicted. It was exhausting.
On the plus side, reading this was considerably more entertaining than the entire Best Novel shortlist for the Nebula Award:
 • Raising Caine, Charles E. Gannon (Baen)
 • The Fifth Season, N.K. Jemisin (Orbit US; Orbit UK)
 • Ancillary Mercy, Ann Leckie (Orbit US; Orbit UK)
 • The Grace of Kings, Ken Liu (Saga)
 • Uprooted, Naomi Novik (Del Rey)
 • Barsk: The Elephants’ Graveyard, Lawrence M. Schoen (Tor)
 • Updraft, Fran Wilde (Tor)
The Nebula Award is so predictable now that Chaos Horizon nailed all seven of seven before they were announced. Here's what I predicted would be in the awards mix back in December, prior to reading any of them, and based on nothing but who the author is.
 • Uprooted by Naomi Novik (Del Rey)
 • Ancillary Mercy by Anne Leckie (Orbit)
 • Karen Memory by Elizabeth Bear (Tor)
 • The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin (Orbit)
They ought to just change the name of the Nebulas to the Science Fiction Affirmative Action Awards for Women and Minorities Who Don't Write Good.

Parasites will parasite. The host they have been feasting on is either emaciated or has left the room...now they turn on each other. But their fellow SJW is as nourishing as a piece of celery. Oh how long will the SJW lament their butt-hurt to the skies until some nonexistent deity comes to save them?

SJW nitroglycerin is "Northwest Passage" by Kenneth Roberts. Published in 1937, it has all the subtle and blatant stereotypes that cause SJW heads to explode. Besides, it is a good book with fun characters.

Do you think it could be made "required reading" in colleges?

One assumes that question must be rhetorical. Because if not, it's an astonishingly stupid question in light of the state of the university system today.

Are you CERTAIN this isn't some sort of parody?

I texted Keri O'Brien, the Vice Chair for the convention, and told her that Selina had taken off her pants again. (She had done so at ConQuesT 45.) Within a few minutes, Selina had pulled her pants back up and Keri arrived and pulled Selina out of the room. Selina returned, and she made the bulk of the remainder of the panel about how fandom was NOT open-minded because someone had reported her for removing her pants

I'm also confused about who the author of this particular missive is. The individual who's picture is plastered all over the page is clearly a goony beard man. A white one. Yet the text of the article claims they're not white? And since said page is apparently run by whoever this "Mark" is, I'm curious if this is the Godfrey Elfwick of Facebook.

Came for Steve's risky click of the day. Maybe he's at church repenting for all the pain he's inflicted. Eye-bleach stings, Steve. It stings.

Welp. Here is a photo of an Elizabeth Gooch who told Facebook she was "going" to ConQuesT 46. Take from that what you will. This pic is for her church directory 2013. I can't believe an episcopalian would behave like that.

Meanwhile it took Eric 9 months of fondling Baize's black balzak before he manned up? What, did his emotional baby finally reach full term, shedding his mucus plug and dropping from a malformed uterus to spew muconium and amniotic gravy all over the interwebs?

And F all of you contards for making me type ConQuesT like that.

Anonymous The cONqUESt February 21, 2016 10:46 AM

Liz Gooch was consumed by the thought of cONqUESt of that juicy fruit booty. Months of planning and fantasizing about that booty had come down to this particular room party at this particular cONqUESt. "Oh drat!" she exclaimed, "the Booty Blocker is foiling all my attempts at the juicy fruit booty." Then the light bulb flickered on over head: "Yes! By the elevator in the morning I shall make one more grab for that juicy fruit booty; that booty shall be mine"

I actually used to read this guy when he did "Mark Reads Twilight." There was some entertaining stuff in his reactions, but then he started talking about privilege and transphobia and then later on he was doing Harry Potter and someone told me that him calling Christians Nazis was "just having my privilege challenged."

Mind you this was back in probably '09 or '10 before the real rise of SJWs, so I didn't have a word for it at the time. But the signs were all there.

And yes, he's a man, and yes, he's some kind of mix of Japanese and maybe native Hawaiian I think. He's also, rather appropriately, an atheist and a vegan.

Since I've been mentioned both in the original post and comments I'll respond and VD can delete me if he's upset.

I actually was trying to say on that panel that the Inca and Aztec empires were unpopular (to say the least). When the Spanish arrived, they used this unpopularity to build a local army with themselves at the head. (No, 300 guys on horseback did not an empire overthrow all by their lonesome. ) My statement didn't come out as intended (and I knew it at the time) and I apologized to Mark on his Facebook page.

For the record - I don't care if Mark or anybody else accepts my apology. He was offended, I didn't intend to offend him AND misspoke, so the moral thing to do is say "I'm sorry."

Blogger Zimri February 21, 2016 11:16 AM

I think I can honestly say I am the polar opposite of upset. I am deeply, deeply, amused. And Chris, you really should have read SJWAL. Maybe they'll be merciful in light of your past genuflections before social justice. But I doubt it.

Blogger Zimri February 21, 2016 11:26 AM

Chris Gerrib: thank you for dropping by to give your take on it.

But I'll suggest here that Mark is displaying all the signs of a SJW readying his great crusade. He has his narrative all staked out.

So Mark is not going to redact his views toward a mix of insensitivity and bootygrabs, with you in the former. He now has your apology as additional blackmail-fuel which he can hold against you as he wishes.

You are going to need to start going through your own archives and taking clear stock of where you are weak and where you are strong, and you are going to need to prepare a solid defence of your positions. You are also going to need allies. Maybe someone should write a helpful manual about this!

Blogger Sun Xhu February 21, 2016 11:29 AM

Uhm, has the writer of this passage ever been exposed to the expression "Use your words?" Or maybe even "Use your OUTSIDE voice" ?

For whatever use another expression -- "No means no" may have, a person has to utter the two-letter word at a decibel level sufficient to be heard by many people nearby.

Body language means -- one should pardon this expression -- squat.

Blogger P.T. Barnumium February 21, 2016 11:37 AM

Oh dear. Turns out the apology didn't go very well: (from the FB thread)

Christopher Gerrib
Since I was mentioned by name in the original post, I feel I should respond. I want to apologize. What I *intended* to say was that the Inca and Aztec empires were unpopular with other native tribes, and that the Spanish used that unpopularity to form an army with themselves at the head. I did not communicate that correctly, and I'm sorry. I don't recall saying that the Spanish were unfairly blamed for anything, but if I said or implied otherwise I was wrong. Much of the current issues with Central and South America can be traced to bad Spanish decisions and/or conduct.

Mark Does Stuff
I don't actually see an apology here at all

Under Cortez the Spanish had between 400 and 1000 of their own at various times, of these only 20-40 had horses at any given time. When Cortez besieged Tenochtitlan he did it as the leader of 100,000 men, only 1% of them Spaniards.
And the few cannon, arquebuses and even crossbows counted for little, there being very few of them with little ammunition, only ocasionally of use. And they abandoned their metal armor early as impractical and adopted the native cotton. The Spanish fought, nearly all of them, with swords, otherwise no different from their enemies. For what it's worth re "erasure" - if someone wants to put black guys, Jews, Moors, or (white) women in a novel of the Conquest, you certainly can, there were several of all of these among the followers of Cortez. As for homosexuals, this was an Indian practice, apparently as widespread as human sacrifice and cannibalism. ALL the Indian peoples did this, not just the Aztecs. Bernal Diaz has this sort of thing all over his account, and he was an eyewitness.

Furthermore, not one person on the panel seemed to understand the point of the panel, which was to talk about erasure.

Yes and no, it's like comparing Americans of English decent to latter-day British. One country colonized the other, there are both cultural and linguistic parallels between the two and because of the isolation over hundreds and hundreds of years some genetic differences as well.
And the stuff about (likely feather) Indians? I'll just leave that for Vox to sort out.

I guess this sack of fail wasn't getting enough attention, so he had to reach back 9 months to write about his badfeels. And hey, it worked! The engagement metrics for his posts are terrible (and trending down). In particular, his promotion of his appearance at a Chicago con and - probably more importantly - his Patreon page, flat out bombed.

But he got a two+ orders of magnitude bump in his metrics by posting about how much of a victim he was (though notice, even as a "victim", in his telling of it he was still able to personally delay the closing ceremonies, and the crowd rose up to defend him being left out of the recognition list).

They live by blaming others for their inevitable failures, and since the rest of us now do everything we can to avoid being around them, they have to start blaming each other.

A useful reminder - keep them away from you. They will bring nothing but trouble.

One of the things reading that facebook posting is that apparently a lot of SF fans who attend conventions have no idea how to conduct themselves in public.

Pulling of your pants, taking off your shirt and bragging about your great body? Sexual gestures toward someone who is attending with someone else? Yelling cocksucker in a crowded public place? These people are socially retarded.

In addition, leaving out all the crying about racism and homophobia, he actually has has a couple of legitimate complaints. Getting invited by the convention and then being stuck off in a separate table at the welcoming dinner? That's also pretty socially retarded, they could have just had the wait staff pull up another table, and not talking to people at a dinner you have invited them to? Again, socially retarded.

That said, the bulk of his complaint is that people disagreed with him or were mean. And what does he do about it? He goes and complains about it to others and cries in his room. God forbid that he actually have to argue a case or actually confront someone himself.

Somebody needs to tell this guy to man up.

I actually was trying to say on that panel that the Inca and Aztec empires were unpopular (to say the least). When the Spanish arrived, they used this unpopularity to build a local army with themselves at the head. (No, 300 guys on horseback did not an empire overthrow all by their lonesome. )

I was under the impression that that was standard history as now taught. The Spaniards exploited the animosity of less powerful tribes towards the Aztecs and Mayans combined with the diseases that the Spaniards unwittingly introduced.

Question: Why are so many people that like scifi/fantasy social justice warriors?

I apologise for the length so will break this into two parts.

PART ONE

My thoughts on this is it all stems from a lack of belief in anything greater than their own selves:

Science Fiction has always held great appeal for Gnostics, acolytes of Crowley and the other related Occultists, which is why you’ll often see ads for Rosicrucians, (who integrated aspects of Crowley’s occultism) in the old pulp SF magazines.

Start with a person with these four qualities:

1. Unhealthy
2. Unloved (I’d qualify this by adding ‘by those partners they believe they deserve’)
3. Unhappy
4. Unsuccessful

This creates - at best – a sense of chronic dislocation from the existing world. At worst – outright hatred for it. The Gnostic Mindset is created due to this feeling of being an Alien ‘Other’.

Their worldview needs to be twisted so their failures are not their own: perhaps they view themselves as an Alien trapped in a miserable existence on an unbearable foreign planet; or as a being of vastly-superior intelligence surrounded by idiots who could never comprehend their divine intelligence (and, as such, have an aversion to displaying said intelligence when challenged because it would be ‘a waste of time’).

If they wander even further into Gnosticism and related esoteric occultism, they need to kill ‘God’ for creating their suffering existence. This is the outright showy, public rejection at any concept of Patriarchal Benevolence.

A lyric from Bowie, a classic Gnostic: “The gods forgot they made me so I forgot them too.” Hear the sulky resentment?

This is where the Way of Faith is rejected for the Way of Knowledge. The self-identified ‘superior intellect’ must reject Faith and Humility to, functionally, become Their Own God. (Keep this in mind for its obvious appeal to the ‘Secret Superman’ Gamma Personality type, and those of Mid-witted Intelligence who tend to think of themselves as Intellectual Powerhouses).

Faced with a daily existential agony, the God needs to create a Divine Reality for the purposes of healing their unhappiness: a secret, vastly-superior world within the existing world, usually accomplished through works of creative art, experimentation with alternative sexualities, or the creation of hedonistic subcultures where they exist as Godhead, not a figure of social ridicule.

The dual ‘world within a world’ nature means the constructs of these realities are prone to illogical contradictions that make no sense to an outsider.

Taking all this into account, you can see why Gnostics would find these aspects of Science Fiction appealing:

- world creation;

- the potential for ego-flattering Mary Sue protagonists;

- identification and sympathy for the Alien Viewpoint;

- the glorification of alternative sexualities, often as a sign of an intellectually superior advanced race;

- the belittling of both normalcy and tradition, (including religion).

Anonymous A. Bosch February 21, 2016 6:53 PM

PART TWO

Therefore, I view the current Science Fiction Culture War as, bluntly, Gnostics trying to force their individual Divine Realities onto all of Fandom, rather than keeping them contained within their art. Fandom itself is being reshaped as a ‘Healing’ Subculture away from Harsh Reality where the Damaged elevate their sins and failings into virtues and talents so they become the new Godheads, and, as such their power rests in their ability to collect and organise other Gnostics to tear down the old Godheads. No Divine Light shall outshine their own.

With their incessant need to be perceived as Godheads, all people who refuse to recognise them as such must be expelled. The tactics for expulsion will grow increasingly-vicious depending on the perceived threat level by a Thought Criminal to the Gnostic’s own Divine Reality, (particularly if the Criminal follows the Way of Faith, and is more objectively-talented).

They’re trying to world-build reality, and throwing tantrums when reality isn’t easily-malleable to their self-perceived Godwill. You might laugh at weak-chinned, skinny-fat John Scalzi’s delusions of being mistaken for a Badass Marine; or that wearing bad drag is somehow promoting feminism; or that all women are secretly smiling at him; or his need to inflate his page view stats all as evidence for his obvious-delusion about reality. That’s exactly the point: he’s World Building his Divine Reality, and giving his acolytes framing instructions to exist within, lest they risk expulsion from his Divine Light.

This is their weak point: I suspect they’re always aware that their reality is constructed, at least to some degree. Coupled with the inherent sense of inferiority based on their initial four qualities, Gnostics usually have some kind of related persecution complex by Faceless, Evil Others, which drives them increasingly-mad, and eventually makes all praise they receive hollow anyway. The sense of persecution and paranoia must persist, which means the Divine Scriptures get increasingly-obnoxious, and eventually drive away their moderate followers.

You’ll have observed they’re unwilling to debate opposing viewpoints; block rather than entertain criticism, and often respond in violent narcissistic fury or outright goal evasion when presented with factual corrections. You’re not arguing with a rational human being, you’re arguing with a Mad Evangelist promoting their own personal religion with them as Godhead.

Reality is Triggering. Use it at every opportunity.

So what happens to the Culture when the Gnostics are in charge? Since the Divine Reality of every Gnostic is individual and heavily-personalised, conflict with the other ‘Gnostic Gods’ in any subculture is inevitable, particularly if one Reality threatens another.

Fandom becomes a hell of bitchy infighting, incriminations, tears and hysterical tantrums, where all sense of Community eventually erodes and the sensible people leave the culture to a bunch of atomised broken individuals, whom all claim to be inclusive of and to support each other, but absolutely-despise anyone outshining their own Divine Light, even for a moment.

Anonymous A. Bosch February 21, 2016 6:55 PM

POSTSCRIPT

Deviance driving away normalcy is probably for the best. Given the acceptability of Occultism and Sexual Deviance in San Francisco in the late sixties, where Occultism was highly-fashionable, some of Crowley’s ideas are deeply-intertwined with the old guard of Leftist Science Fiction, particularly Sex Magick; the conception of the sexual organs and the sex acts as being ‘holy’ and filled with magic power; the belief that Black People hold wise mystical power; and the fact and the belief that ‘all children from infancy should be accustomed to witnessing every type of sexual act’; and that the strongest magick comes from sex with minors.

If you wonder why kiddy-fiddling is ignored and overlooked in SF, remember back to those Rosicrucian ads in the pulps I mentioned, some of which used Crowely’s creed: "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law". I suspect the idea of Sexual Abuse of Minors as ‘Magick’ has been seeded into fandom since the 1930’s, and is why I’d keep children out of the Convention Culture entirely.

-----

Out of curiosity, I wondered what modern Crowley fans were discussing, so checked out some forums. Their current concern for the ‘Do what thou wilt’ crowd seems to be viciously-arguing over whether Crowley was Sexist and Racist. I guess even Satanism is now required to be Politically-Correct.

On the plus side, reading this was considerably more entertaining than the entire Best Novel shortlist for the Nebula Award:

It will be more entertaining than next years.

There will be one entry:

Lois McMaster Bujold, Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen

I've been a fan of Bujold for twenty years but this one is tragic. It is Bujold's I Will Fear No Evil and Time Enough For Love rolled into one.

It's that bad.

My only hope here is that she is actually fishing for another Hugo and Nebula Award for best novel.

This novel follows the adventures of Cordelia Sue. Who after the death of Aral has cut off all her hair and burned it as a Memory Offering. (That fits the world Bujold built but...) She now won't let her hair grow more than an inch long. (yeeeeeeeaaaaah)

Out of nowhere it appears that her marriage had become this longstanding three way between Cordelia, Aral and boytoy of Aral's that he dragged into their bed a few years back.

A while back Vox had a post on Pink Versus Blue SF writers at the time we both agreed that Bujold was on the border which was a big part of the key to her success.

She is no longer on the border.

Wow. I am now going to look carefully at any ""Cons" in my area to see what sorts of dysfunctional panels are being presented. The term "Con" seems quite appropriate, since people are spending money to celebrate comics and fiction that they enjoy, rather than pointless panels where people can brag about reading "five books" as their research prior to writing something.

If I were the moderator, I could have had a great deal of fun asking "what five books" were used as research, why they were chosen and what information from them the author used in the story? Nothing like taking virtue signalling and using it to rub the author's face into the carpet.

Of course the SJW snowflake who wrote the post didn't have the wit or mental agility to take that course of action, no doubt having their microsensitivities being pummelled.

Oddly structured book. No real conflict to speak. Stuff just happens. Possibly she was being experimental again.

I know this is the end of the thread, but I did read a few things about the Aztecs and Maya, including dating a mestiza or two, and me mum did a stint in Barbados, so -

1. Mesoamerica was a cultural zone. Although the Aztecs were masters of most of it, they weren't masters of all of it. [most important point]

1a. Cortez only went to what's now Central Mexico. Other Spaniards went to the Maya lands and points south. Brits too (the Welsh privateer Morgan did a number on Panama City, the Mosquito Coast - Belize - was and stayed British, etc).

2. The Aztecs were the more prudish locals where it came to sex. They were thus able to concentrate their males into warfare. If a guy was effeminate then he was encouraged to be the bottom. This was also more accepted in the court classes than down on the farm. Kind of like... Islam! or like the classical Greeks.

2a. For the kinky stuff, like little boy stuff, one went to the Purépecha, also known as Tarascans or Michihuacanos.

2b. The Spanish warriors when they showed up didn't always distinguish between one culture and another.

2c. The soldiers saw queers in the court and figured the whole society was like that. They didn't think about what was going on in the court back in Madrid; they figured it was all Santiago and the Holy Virgin back home. Pff.

3. The Maya. Hoh boy. "Apocalypto" wasn't the half of it. They *had* had a civilisation and lost it. And then they had another and lost that. And then Mayapan started up yet one more attempt at unifying the Maya... and it fell apart too. When the Spaniards showed up the Maya were back in colander face mask, assless chaps, ayatolla of rockanrolla world.

He was offended, I didn't intend to offend him AND misspoke, so the moral thing to do is say "I'm sorry."

If that's your idea of morals, son, you're an idiot.

And I'm sure the apology went swimmingly.

He intended to be offended, so you owed him nothing.

Mr A Bosch, please give me permission to reprint your remarks on my blog at scifiwright.com. I have often spoken of the connection between Leftism and Gnostic thought, so my readers might be interested in your analysis.

@Zimri:

I am curious. Do you know where I can read books on those subjects? Got any titles?

Rosicrucianism existed for centuries before Crowley was even born, so I think you are confused about who lifted what from whom.

While there are (naturally, as is the nature of such things) many claims that Rosicrucian ideas were handed down from antiquity, it's a historical fact that the first published Rosicrucian texts appeared in the 17th Century. Crowley's heyday was the late 19th and early 20th.

Also, Crowley would have vehemently denied being a Satanist, no less than would a Hindu, an Odinist, or a Druid. Whether he was actually accomplishing or abetting the works of Satan is a different issue, but clearly he did not worship Satan directly.

They're so sad. And so stupid. Why is the combination so funny? Walking into lampposts is just funny, like the 3 stooges or Dumb and Dumber. It doesn't inspire pity, just guffaws. But, you know, Low IQ Lives Matter. Wait, we'll smear ourselves with red stuff. No... it's still funny.

Wow, just wow... Having read the entire thread I still have no idea of who is what and who did what to whom. It has everything, wrong skin, homos; trans-everything and tears. salty salty tears.

It seems like this is some kind of mental fantasy by one guy envisioning himself playing all the parts (like Harry Potter can be viewed as the escapist fantasy of an abused child).

I'm afraid to examine it too deeply in case it all unravels into a David Lynch-ian movie in which I am the observer observing myself in some Gnostic afterlife.

I would like to mention that if I told my wife we were going to Kansas City for a long weekend where we would be treated to dinner at a chain BBQ joint along with a lot of strangers and she would have to occupy herself while I attended a lot of panels she would tell me to have a nice time and start calling her girl friends to start arranging for something actually fun to do that weekend.

What I'm saying here is that going to Kansas City for a free meal is not actually on many peoples' bucket list.

I guess Kissinger's observation regarding academic politics is apropos, that the politics are so vicious because there is so little at stake.

Rusty Fife: lol good luck with the recalibrizatons.

I just thought it was a bit funny that a person would identify as Latino and then act as if the Spanish were White...as it undercuts their own argument for being a Person of Color.
