Cruz 20% & Rubio 6% +-5%

Oh brother. I suppose I should go. I'm either going for Jeb or Bernie Sanders, so Im going to have to pick a party soon.

Jeb so I can make a dramatic change of heart and cross over to Trump. Yes, I am wearing tearaway pants for the occasion.

Sanders so I can win over voters by screaming "Pick the older lesbian! Pick the older lesbian!"

If the Dread Ilk have better ideas, my vote is for sale.

MAKE CAUCUSES GREAT AGAIN

Blogger Ingot9455 February 01, 2016 6:14 PM

Trump's Master Persuader powers are working on me. I want to see him take it away here and upend everything. I know that Cruz is supposed to have the best organization on the ground while Trump has kept it a mystery.

I logically like Cruz as the closest thing to a constitutionalist we have, but this place has taught me about rhetoric and power, and what the next President will need to have.

And I want that sweet sweet shadenfreude from everyone who was wrong wrong wrong. I want that preference cascade. I want it to be too late for the pebbles to vote.

Anonymous WillBest February 01, 2016 6:18 PM

Does the RNC require minimum thresholds the way the DNC does? Otherwise you won't end up with Trump at 65%. Also, I doubt that Trump is going to be a lot of establishment guys (Rubio, Jen, Kasich, Christie) 2nd choice.

Blogger Jourdan February 01, 2016 6:21 PM

Anyone know what time the caucuses wrap up?

Also, last time the caucuses were called for Romney and then after a full count it was announced some week-and-a-half later that Santorum had actually won. Does anyone know if the Iowa Rep Party has taken steps to address this this time around?

Anonymous JN February 01, 2016 6:24 PM

Don't trust anyone or support anyone who still refers to the constitution or believes that the constitution holds an authority in our society or legal system. They are living in la-la land. The US Constitution is dead. Utterly and completely. Has been for a long time.

Blogger intuitivereason February 01, 2016 6:28 PM

@9

Even better than that, Ron Paul eventually got the votes from Iowa once the caucusses had worked through. The announcement on the day is just the initial positions of those caucussing; that is what they got wrong. But the rounds of voting from there on can cascade with good organisation.

If Cruz is as well prepped as it is made out, we could well see Trump announced today and Cruz pick up the votes in a couple months time once the process completes.

Blogger Sam Lively February 01, 2016 6:30 PM

Trump and Cruz crushing the rest of the field with strong stands against the invite/invade lobby would be a pretty sweet outcome, particularly relative to expectations this time last year (when Trump was just a personality and Cruz looked more neocon than paleocon).

Blogger Cinco February 01, 2016 6:32 PM

I'm gonna go:

Trump 33%
Cruz 28%
Rubio 17%
Carson ...
Paul ...

Yes. They promised to lie and steal and throw the results in just THREE days flat - NO compromise.

Blogger Nate February 01, 2016 6:51 PM

I read today that Cruz has more money than the entire RNC. If that's the case, that's actually good news for everyone. As the biggest threat the RNC has left to pull out a victory for one of their puppets is stealing the election the way they did for Romney.

I doubt they will have the warchest to that with given the resources that Trump and Cruz now have.

That means Jeb and Rubio are done. And that's good news for everyone.

Blogger Danby February 01, 2016 6:53 PM

To be overheard in the offices of Fox News tomorrow;
"Hello, Donald? This is Megyn. It's so hard getting through your people."
"Great, great. Hey, Congrats on the Iowa win. That was so unexpected."
"So look, I know we've had our differences and all, but I'll just say it. How would you like to come over to my place and do an interview? No, no! Really!"
"Of course I'll be nice!"
"Busy? What do you mean busy?"
"Oh c'mon Donald! Blow them off, this is Fox calling. It'll be great!"
"Busy with whom? Do you have another interviewer?"
"Maddow!?!? That bitch? She's got what, her stupid glasses and 5000 ageing lesbians in her audience."
"But I can get you maybe 5-6 million viewers!"
"You can't be serious!"
"Please Donald, please come on the show."
"Not digified? You bastard!"

@34 Dave. No, I'm not even voting "once", at least not for anyone sanctioned by the system. There is only one moral option: Refuse to participate! Don't vote for any candidates for national office. Mark that section of your ballot "NOTA" (for "none of the above").

It doesn't matter how much you despise "the other guy". Do not let yourself be rope-a-doped again. Even when your "lesser of two evils" candidate wins, you still lose. History and personal experience prove that our past participation, no matter how passionate, has done nothing to slow the advance of the oligarchs' agenda. When we cast our ballot for candidates who are committed to that agenda, we facilitate evil and become complicit in it. Conversely, our deliberate informed refusal to vote for such candidates serves as an announcement that we will no longer participate in a corrupt and rigged system. We are withdrawing our grant of moral authority to act in our name, a step that should be of paramount importance to Christians and to all who believe in God's goodness and oppose evil.

"Voting. Not even once!"

Blogger Nate February 01, 2016 7:18 PM

Well I have made no predictions about the elections as a whole. I predicted Cruz would win tonight and Trump would come in second but that has no real relevance to the grand scheme of things. I don't think its because Cruz is more popular.. I think its because of the nature of the election in Iowa.

I believe Trump will beat Cruz in New Hampshire.

and I think things will get interesting in the south where people like Jeb and that moron for Ohio and Rubio have practically no support.

@54 Nate - From here in Washington, I can't agree. I don't vote, either, for the reason you state, but here in D.C. everyone, and I mean everyone, with a stake in USG is rapidly anti-Trump. Since these people are also responsible for importing massive numbers of foreigners, destroying working- and middle-class jobs for 10 cents more an hour profit and teaching their children that European-American kids by their mere existence harm blacks and browns...yeah, what you're seeing is a lot of people saying "fuck you" to all these people via Trump.

For decades the working- and middle-class European-American was a gold mine of votes left alone because their interest could not be vocalized in our political culture. Trump, by simply stating what every normal American knows and nothing more, has broken that taboo and blown right through it, demonstrating for everyone that the powers that be are not only wrong, they are weak.

I do agree with Nate that it will all end in tears. However, since I hold that until my people realize the USG is their enemy and beyond reform--even at the Const Convention level--there can be no progress towards our shared vision, that's fine by me (though sad, there will be a lot of pain for patriots).

Blogger Nate February 01, 2016 7:56 PM

Jourdan actually I don't disagree. That's why I've said I'm going to consider a Trump win a win for me. Because of the message it sends about what is a viable platform for a candidate.

But if you think Trump is actually going to govern differently... then you're just another sucker.

Okay Im here but there was trouble already:

1st, I could not find my Captain America underwear, rendering the effect of the tearaway pants moot.

2nd, my bright red Crow Seeds cap has gone missing.

So, I had to go pimp style: a full blown authentic Iowa sheepskin coat. I look like Brian Dennehy in Silverado and have already cut a swath or two in the crowds, even though the effect would have been better at the Worldcon Jr. Democrats.

The Rand Paul guy cottoned on, mentioned the coat and gave me his talking points. Sorry buddy, I bleed Jeb, White and Azul.

A damn site more people at this one than the Romnylimpics of 2012, but who knows? Maybe my precinct grew.

Damnit. They just now announced it isnt going to start at 7 (in 6 minutes). A jillion suckers are lined up, needing to register. I may not vote unless I can find an amusing angle.

Shoulda gone to Democrats.

Trump is at best a eucatastrophe that could save the country, though most likely he'd just delay the inevitable day of reckoning another decade, and undo some of Obama and Bush the Younger's madness. I very much doubt he'd be allowed to be President in any case. His main value has been to delegitimize the GOP and the system.

@116 no, there isn't. And parading how righteous one is for failing to participate in even the simplistic duty of a citizen in a republic is rather pathetic. Cast your note in Gods eye if you really believe the game is all rigged.

Blogger Frank Brady February 01, 2016 8:40 PM

I failed to make clear that "non-participation" does not mean withdrawing from the political arena. In fact, it is really a revolutionary act. Even the most powerful totalitarian dictatorships must have tacit support from the people in order to stay in power. Authoritarian regimes almost never fall as a direct result of armed revolutionary action by opposition groups. Instead, although some violence may occur, they fall when the people withdraw their grant of moral authority to govern.

I happened to be watching television in December of 1989 when the Romanian dictator, Nicolae Ceausescu, appeared on the balcony of his Presidential Palace in Bucharest to harangue the furious revolutionary mob gathered in the square below. I will never forget the look of abject terror that flashed across his face at the moment he realized with fatal certainty that his regime was finished. He fled Bucharest only to be captured and executed by firing squad on Christmas day after a drum head trial. Although his overthrow was the most violent revolutionary act to occur during the collapse of the Warsaw Pact state governments, it was the loss of his government's moral authority, not armed force, that ultimately brought him down, To further make the point, the Soviet Union was never more powerful in terms of military firepower than when it finally collapsed with a whimper in 1991.

The Welfare/Warfare state is imploding before our eyes. If Trump and Sanders are "for real", the next sound you hear will be the scurrying of little feet as the rats abandon the rapidly sinking ship.

I think Sanders would be great for Trump as it would entice Bloomberg to enter the race as a 3rd party candidate. The two New York Jews would split the vote, to the benefit of Trump.
