The Ted Cruz affair crisis

The National Enquirer has run a story about "The 5 Romps that will destroy Ted Cruz", complete with pictures of the five women with whom he has supposedly had affairs.
Oh dear, the National Enquirer has come out with a story claiming evidence of multiple sexual trysts by presidential candidate Senator Ted Cruz.

Worse yet for the Cruz camp, the framework within the article is structurally very concerning:The National Enquirer is indeed a tabloid – and as such there are various grains of salt that should be applied when reviewing anything they present.

However, that said, they have been unfortunately accurate for more than a few presidential hopefuls:  Gary Hart, Jesse Jackson and John Edwards to name a few of the more infamous examples. Beyond the story itself there’s a few presenting elements which point to a high degree of confidence, and as a consequence ‘legal avoidance’, on the publishers’ part.

Firstly, they post pictures of the collective mistresses.  NE would never legally “go there” if they did not hold a very reasonable certainty the outlined players were factually part of the story.
Despite being partially-obscured, three of the five women alleged to have been involved with Cruz have already been identified: Katrina Pierson, Sarah Isgur Flores and Amanda Carpenter. This story was already in the works at Breitbart, as Allum Bokhari had it back in February but was not permitted to run with it. The current timing strikes me as intriguing given the fact that Donald Trump already warned the Cruz campaign that there would be reprisals for their advertised attack on his wife Melania.

It also looks as if the Rubio campaign had the dirt on Cruz, but sat on it in order to keep him viable against Donald Trump.

Given how bitter and cultish the cruz bots are they may straight out refuse to traverse the stages of grief and may remain permanently in denial.

To be honest Im more concerned that he paid Fiorina half a mil to keep it quiet. The man is running for president, not pope.

So his bribe is troubling b/c it further shows hes compromised. Had he openly admitted it and focused on his job, or even better cursed out his opponenets for bringing it up, I wouldnt give a shit, Its professional corruption that concerns me, not whether he occasionally got laid outside of his marriage.

There was a time when that was understood. Unfortunately in our time you are only OK for office if you are a proven rapist or a drug addicted homosexual marxist.

Cruz is a known Bible thumper. We're well acquainted with the type. Yep, Trump has dealt him a killshot, as they say. Apparently this has been an open secret for a while. Do you think Beck will break down over this?

Blogger Shimshon March 25, 2016 6:52 AM

My first thought is why is this guy running? You can't possibly expect this kind of dirt to remain undiscovered in 2015. We now know that the dirt was indeed widely known. I should not be surprised at the extent the media goes along with the GOPe when it's one of their own (who is also their last hope to deny Trump an outright majority of delegates). But I am. It's not even on Drudge, though that probably won't be for much longer. No surprise that the candidate who wears his religiosity on his sleeve more than any other is the one with the biggest pants problem.

Anonymous Millenium March 25, 2016 6:59 AM

Trump used the media do his dirty work beautifully though I am not sure these were the beans he was referring to spilling. There is still a redacted police report that hints at Hiedi Cruz being depressed and considering suicide. What could have drove her to that point and does Trump know it?

Supposedly /pol/ has evidence Liz Mair, the tranny who ran the attack ad against Melania, is being paid by Soros. If true this will destroy the myth that Cruz is an outsider for good.

Looks like Cruz has really stepped in it. Although it's not like he had to do much digging to find noodz of the current Mrs. Trump - just Google ''donald trump's wife nude'' (safe search off of course) there's quite a few of 'em, some of his exes too.
The one Cruz picked could just barely even be considered NSFW.
Stones, glass houses, ect.
I doubt Trump actually cheated on his current wife, maybe dated/scouted the next one, but not actually boinked her until the divorce papers cleared.

Trump wins. A lot of folks on the right decide to stay home, again.

Hillary wins. The FBI presents their meticulously documented case to the AG. The director tells Loretta, "Either you prosecute, or we all resign." Lynch works out a plea arrangement for Hillary, Huma and Cheryl to admit misdemeanor "inadvertent exposure of data" charges. Some underling takes the felony hit and serves easy time, emerging to a nice sinecure at the Clinton Foundation. Hillary: "Gosh, I did my best. I was trying to save the world, and perhaps hit the wrong buttons on my Blackberry. You know tech is hard for girls."

Hillary wins in November, because more Democrats are willing to hold their nose and vote. Republicans hold on to House and Senate. War on the southern border edges closer.

Hmmm, that link is interesting. Seems The Littlest Chickenhawk was the one who spiked the story at Breitbart:
Unfortunately, the truth-tellers ran into the corporate side of the media enterprises. Breitbart owned by pro-Cruz Super-PAC funder Robert Mercer was one of the roadblocks. The editor, Ben Shapiro, also now being named as one of the political advocates who would not allow his chosen candidate to be ‘outed”. Shapiro is also the Editor of The Daily Wire, which is also owned by a Pro-Cruz Super-PAC team, The Wilks Brothers.

It appears Shapiro buried and blocked the story because he, along with others, didn’t want to see Cruz negatively impacted. Unfortunately, this is brutal confirmation of the type of media bias we have discussed before.

Hope his resume is updated...

There was a theory out a while back that Clintons' career survived his many lies and infidelities because his women were not particularly good looking. Women voters were forgiving because they could continue to see themselves in fantasy 'affair with the president' situations. The theory did not take into account that Bill's survival was aided greatly by Hillary's attacks on the women he raped.

Yeah, fair enough. I was referring to someone actually coming out, confirming the rumors and presenting some sort of evidence. I had no idea about Clinton being sterile.

Blogger Nate March 25, 2016 8:59 AM

right now the main story on Drudge is one that focuses on Louisiana but demonstrates a larger problem for Trump. Cruz is losing state primaries but out-maneuvering Trump in the delegate selection process behind the scenes. The Trump delegates are not winning committee seats like they should be.. largely because most of them are new and have no idea what they are supposed to be doing. The committee that handles the rule changes for the GOP Convention may well be stacked with Cruz supporters.

I should've anticipated something like this... because this is sort of thing is peak Ted Cruz. I still believe that Trump is going to win it out right well before the convention. But its becoming clear that if somehow it all fell apart (and I don't see how that could happen) and it did go to a contested convention... Ted will cut Trump to ribbons with weapons Trump doesn't even know exist.

Nate,

The delegate game and committees is a real possibility. There is no way Ron Paul would have been shafted in 2012 if his people had had a larger presence on the committees the week before the convention. That is where all the shenanigans happened with Rule 40b and others. That is where the nomination is won or lost, and Cruz is the epitome of a lawyer.

Now I think Trump knows all of this, just like the RP people did. Bei.g able to do something about it is one thing. I think the politically active remnants of Ron Paul's people and people that leaned his way are mostly working for Cruz. I say that because many of them are soft headed idiots on the subject if immigration and Islam. That's the libertarian influence, which as I grow older appears to me the greatest threat to our culture, people and lives.

That isn't true. There will be 8 competitive Senate seats (6 GOP, 2 Dem) the GOP needs to retain 5 of them.

Incumbency is a pretty big advantage in a low turnout affair which given how unlikable Hillary is could easily happen.

Duke Lacrosse was nothing but a huge hoax with tons of evidence from the start but most low information leftists still don't know it was a hoax.

Alpha move -- Cruz should go ahead and own it. No borders to Teds love.

if Trump makes it to the general election , can you imagine the filth that he is going to dig up concerning the Clintons?

$5million couldn't buy Bath House Barry's birth certificate because it didn't exist, Trump could get the former 12yo girl whose rapist HilLIARy laughed about getting off on a technicality to do a commercial for that much.

@15 It's possible. It's amazing what happens when the press finally decides to run with open secrets. Case in point: when I was in Spain, a high ranking official in Coslada was arrested. He had extorted, bribed, and drank freely (literally at bars) for the past 20 some years. When he was finally arrested, it was plastered all over the news. The next day one of my professors asked if I had seen it. When I said I had, he said he had a friend that lived in Coslada and everyone there had known about it for 20 years...

Blogger Steve Moss March 25, 2016 11:18 AM

Whose wife feels better this morning? Trump's knows that her man will impale anyone who comes at her. Cruz's just feels like a well used dish cloth.

I think there is some truth to this. Trump's past womanizing is well known, mostly as Trump has owned up to it. But he'll get massive points for going nuclear on anyone who even remotely associated with the attack on his wife.

As to the Cruz affairs, if it's true he's done. Not sure it's true based on what's out there so far but there's enough smoke that some question need to be asked and answered.

Anonymous map March 25, 2016 11:20 AM

This is really a very telling situation. It's bad enough that Ted Cruz had an affair. It's worse that he had this affair while professing Christian Evangelical views.

But other aspects are equally troubling.

It's clear that Ted Cruz can't control his wife and that he lives inside an "equalist" marriage. The dissatisfaction of this has certainly made him susceptible to cheating. This, of course, blossoms into an affair with a staffer or someone work-related. It happens.

But then to have such work-related person stab you in the back and publicize their affair really shows you what kind of people work in politics. Such disloyalty and corruption is really blatant.

Then you have Cruz's decision to run for office with all of these skeletons hanging in his closet. Is this narcissism? Lack of impulse control? Just greed and ambition?

Furthermore, didn't anybody vet candidates like Cruz before they supported them? Where do these candidates come from?

Blogger Mr.MantraMan March 25, 2016 11:30 AM

Blogger Dalrock March 25, 2016 11:31 AM

The current timing strikes me as intriguing given the fact that Donald Trump already warned the Cruz campaign that there would be reprisals for their advertised attack on his wife Melania.

Perhaps it is merely a coincidence, but Trump managed to bait Cruz into trotting his wife out for full sympathy. Before that, we knew he was married but didn't really think much about his wife (at least I didn't). Now the affairs come out immediately after a week of stories about poor Heidi Cruz.

Blogger haus frau March 25, 2016 11:40 AM

Give it a little time. Once Cruz's campaign folds, if this is true it will all come out in the media. If it isn't true it will probably just go away with a few law suits thrown at Enquirer.
We've all heard that Cruz is not well liked according to many DC insiders because of his personality and not necessarily his politics. Right now he is the last hope of the GOPe. After this campaign they won't have any need for him and a lot of personal axes to grind. It could be interesting what happens to his career after this.

Anonymous Brick Hardslab March 25, 2016 11:49 AM

The reason the GOPe gave the nod to Cruz was because of the affairs. He had a secret he was willing to protect. They had leverage plus he already paid Fiorina's camp to make it go away.

He's weak and going to go down. The only question is, is when and how. My guess is they'll try for a takedown during the convention to throw open a path for a true cuck (and not in the literal sense) like Bush or Kasich.

Ted could avoided the some of the mess, @109, had he simply come out and said publically (first in private), re. Melania and Mair, that that was out of bounds and asked his supporters, PACs and campaign to refrain from anything like that in the future. No apology, over and done with, just that he wished for it not to happen again.
The extra marital affairs are a different issue because Ted claims to be be such a strong Christian.
I think that the bigger issue that Trump should raise is, how the affairs cover up has uncovered the systemic corruption of a sector of the news media. That it is but a glimpse into a mush wider corruption across most of the news business.

Friends and allies can cross lines, too. Because of the incidents earlier in this campaign, Cruz needed to get out in front of this, and he could have done it without hanging his ally out to dry. Instead, he's now attacking Trump in the same way that so many others have tried. I don't know if his new political and media allies will be able to keep tilting the field in his favor. If not, Cruz will see his numbers starting to fall.

It just occured to me that if Ted was banging five plain jane brunettes it adds strength to the rumor that the Cruz marriage is a sham. A marriage of opportunity on both sides. This would explain how they lived apart so easily. This then raises the question of whether Hiedi has had affairs and was this what Trump was referring to? Releasing that info would raise speculation that Cruz's kids were not his own, making him a literal cuck.

There are still 3 alleged mistresses, only one of whom I've seen identified: Sarah Isgur Flores. To my knowledge, none of these three have been interviewed.

Given the paranoid, cynical, conspiratorial nature of most Trump supporters, it doesn't surprise me that this "scandal" would be swallowed uncritically by this forum, nor that the denials of all the members yet interviewed would be hand-waved away.

As far as Trump not tweeting today, it could be because he sees this tactic exploding in his face. We won't really know what effect, if any, this has had until the next round of polls come out.
