Trump crushes Rubio in Florida

From Decision Desk HQ:

45.3% Donald Trump
27.6% Marco Rubio
16.5% Ted Cruz

That's with 60 percent reporting. Ohio and Missouri don't have any statistically significant results in yet. Remember to ignore the media spin. I'll have a full mathematical analysis tomorrow, but the reality is that Trump needs either OH or MO to pretty much lock in the nomination.

He doesn't absolutely need either, but if he gets both, he will get the necessary delegates.

UPDATE: The New York Times writes about Rubio's dropout. The missing word? You guessed it.
Did you know that "one crucial shortcoming" was his youth?  I actually never ever read or heard that mentioned.

On the other hand: this entire article explains his failure to attract Republican voters without once mentioning "immigration", "amnesty", or "gang of eight".

Those guys at the NYT are really on top of things.
At a certain point, you begin to realize they're not stupid, they're deceivers.

UPDATE 2: Fox has called Ohio for Kasich now. Not a drubbing, but not very close either. Missouri still looks pretty good for Trump, at 43-34 over Cruz, but only 3 percent of the vote is in.

If that holds up, the results are good, but not the hoped-for four-state KO. Trump would take 160 of the 226 available winner-takes-all delegates, so based on my general recollection, he'll need something like 330 of the 606 remaining winner-takes-all delegates. (I'll provide a more accurate number tomorrow, but I'd guess that estimate is on the high side.)

That should be doable, considering that he appears likely to take 71 percent of them today.

With 8 percent in Ohio, Kasich is up big.

Are there any Ohio residents who can let us know if this is just an aberration due to certain districts, or is this how it is going to play out?

I almost want to be shocked beyond belief at how stupid Ohioans are for even considering to award the delegates for Governor Goody Two-Shoes.

But then I remember that Ohio is the land of the Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Bengals and their fans... and then it all makes sense!

Blogger SciVo March 15, 2016 8:12 PM

Oops, new thread. When Illinois and Missouri start reporting, those Green Papers links may be more useful, since they have more complicated rules. Instead of winner-takes-all or proportional, they each give 12 (out of ~53) by the statewide, and the rest by Congressional district.

Blogger Timmy3 March 15, 2016 8:15 PM

Trump leading in Missouri and NC. May lose to Kasich in Ohio.

Blogger SciVo March 15, 2016 8:19 PM

This is odd. Kasich is up and Sanders is down. Did Soros direct his minions to go for Kasich in Ohio?

Blogger Badger Brigadon March 15, 2016 8:20 PM

How many delegates does that leave? because statistically, with owning ohio and Missouri, less than 20% support from the remaining states to primary are all it will take for him to win. Even if he publicly apologized to Rosie O'Donnell, Whoopi Goldberg, and Cher he'd still get that 20%

7. "I just heard on a local Ohio radio station that Ohio is an open primary and they said Independents and Democrats were voting for Kasich."

That's certainly possible.

IIRC Ohio is more of a hybrid primary, where, if you survive any challenges to your intent, you may switch party affiliations and vote that party. So it's not quite open, but it's definitely not a closed primary.

Trump crushing the opposition in the Northern Marianas was rather amusing. If National Review has correctly analyzed the political situation, this means that the islands may just possibly be populated by disgruntled lower-class white people. Now, since I've had no ethanol yet, this logical conclusion based upon the NRO presuppositions may yet turn out to be flawed.....

Anonymous A Paradigm Is More Than Twenty Cents March 15, 2016 8:22 PM

Ohio is open primary — in practice. Just like Ken above said. Plus throw in the Ohio GOPe chicanery. The state GOPers all threw in their lot with Gaysuck, because repercussions. I wouldn't go so far as to call him a popular governor, though. The dems all despise him, and I'd say the GOP rank and file is only moderately in "like" with him.

Anonymous The SkidMaker March 15, 2016 8:35 PM

Well, it's still early in Ohio, but it wouldn't surprise me to have Kasich win.

It's odd, as among the people I know, Cruz has more support than Kasich - but I have no illusions that my associations are representative of the population as whole.

Had Trump run a few ads here, highlighting the various oddities of Kasich (pro gun control, pro amnesty, pro Obamacare) I think he could have won without much problem.

Trump wasnt counting on Marianas, but got all of the delegates, and right now hes the only one qualified to be nominated at the first vote due to rule 40. Hoist Petard the GOPe is... They needed Cruz to get it for any hope of stopping Trump.

As it is now Cruz has to win majority of four more states just to be eligible to be nominated at the convention while trumps momentum will pull more people to vote for him.

Pyrrhus, because only the winner take all states are important in the final math. Florida is 99 delegates and is by far the biggest prize. Ohio is 66 delegates and Missouri 52. So winning Florida and Missouri pretty much puts Trump in the nomination seat. I'm going to guess that all the proportional victories that Trump is scooping up will mean that he'll only need about 25% of the remaining delegate count which he'll probably get just by being in the margin of error, as someone pointed out before.

The advantage to keeping Kasich around is he splits the establishment though he can't win.
This is Glenn Beck's nightmare scenario. Kasich drags Cruz down so Trump gets the nomination. Today he was saying if Kasich loses and gets out, Cruz has a path to the nomination, assuming he can win big everywhere and edge Trump out (Rubio was assumed). Now with Kasich around, he at best will be a spoiler and has no path to the nomination.

Kasich is a true believer. As part of the GOPe, he really does believe that you have to be Democrate-Lite to win the Presidency - even if 1996, 2008 and 2012 dispute that. @9 SciVo and others:

Note Missouri isn't strictly winner take all although it's close, it's straight that if one candidate gets 50%+1 of the vote, if not, in addition to the 12 delegates statewide going to the one with the most votes you noted, 7 per Congressional district go to whomever got the most votes in it. So Trump could, without breaching 50%+1, get many more delegates that a straight proportional state while Cruz could end up with 7 or 14 or whatever in a few Congressional districts.

@96 - With Ted and Heidi working for Goldman Sachs, they know something about brokering things.

Ancient commercial: "Well My broker is EF Hutton" where everyone turned to listen, with the voiceover "when EF Hutton speaks, everyone listens". They went bankrupt in the late 1980s, or early 90's - the S&L crisis documented in "Burning Down the House".

Goldman created the fraud that Greeced entry into the EU.

They often switch, so I expect their golden boy candidate to be ShorTED just before Heidi-'ho files for divorce.

Missouri awards most of its delegates by Congressional District. Thus, it won't necessarily be 52 delegates or nothing. Most likely, Trump and Cruz will split those delegates.

Trump is doing very well in Illinois. He is at 41% with twenty percent reporting. He will probably take 2/3 of the delegates there.

Ohio is not a surprise. Kasich is the sitting governor. Undecideds in a state like that are always going to break for the familiar name in the end.

Tonight is not a good result for the NeverTrump movement. Cruz would have a better chance at winning Arizona with just a one-on-one race versus Trump. Kasich will also cause the Wisconsin vote to be split. I think Trump does very well in a Trump-Cruz-Kasich race.

Looks like a good night for the Trump Express. Ohio was a very long shot, Kasich is a two-term governor and thanks to oil the state is not doing as badly as neighboring Rust Belt states.

Both Missouri and Illinois are winner-take-all but most of them are awarded in congressional districts. Trump is killing it in Illinois right now, especially in the Chicago area (thanks, BLM!) and should get a huge chunk of delegates there. Missouri, on the other hand, looks very close.

that's the thing though, this has all been obvious for weeks.

"Will Trump get a majority of delegates without Ohio? Kasich gave an remarkable victory speech for winning one state. Cruz won none in this round. With three left, the math means Trump will still lag in delegates."

There were 367 delegates at stake today. Because Missouri and Illinois apportion most of their delegates by Congressional District, we won't know the actual delegate allocation till tomorrow. But it looks like Trump is on pace to win at least 200 delegates, so yes, he will win the majority of delegates today.

The media is trying to spin this simplistic narrative that - because Trump needs 60% of the remaining delegates after today - and he is polling at 45% - he can't get to 1,237. This is stupid. Most of the remaining states are winner take all statewide or winner take all by Congressional District. Trump is on path to get to 1,237. To derail him, Cruz will need to win Arizona, and stop Trump's momentum.

Trump is going to end up with 50-55 of the 69 IL delegates. Including the 3 from IL-4 which is is 72% Hispanic and represented by US-Mexican border denialist Luis Gutierrez.

I find that amusing. Sadly IL-7 is a black district used to crack a few wealthy white suburbs. As a result Kasich picks up 3 from them. And that seems to be where he is getting his support in IL. The minority districts used to break white neighborhood. Jews and Asians in IL-9. He won IL-10 because everybody there has a Hispanic maid, gardener, and or nanny.

Cruz is picking up a couple his from places that might as well be Indiana.

Since Trump pulls a lot of support from Independents, he fares better in Open Primaries. So we can expect his margin to be smaller in closed primaries. Some have speculated that Trump can't win from here on out because most of the primaries are closed. However, Audacious Epigone has shown that, in recent primaries, Trump is slightly outperforming Cruz with registered Republicans as well (which was not true at the beginning). Plus, Trump just won Florida by a huge margin, and Florida is a closed primary. Additionally, Cruz does not poll very well in the northeast - that is not his demographic. Most of the closed primaries are in the northeast. According to the New York Times map of Trump, Trump should do very well in NY, NJ, and PA. To defeat Trump there, Kasich will have to go on a major surge, from 10-15% to 35-40% nationally.

I am very embarrassed by my home state of Missouri. Truly disappointing.

11B it ain't over yet. I don't get why CNN is reporting 99% counted while local sources say 75% with Trump up 2%

Decision desk has 4 counties not reporting anything yet -

Osage
Phelps
Perry
New Madrid

I don't know anything about those places, so no idea which way they will go. But with the vote distance between the two swinging between 1.5K and 7K, they could turn the table one way or another.

BGKB - Hugo Boss. Aren't you supposed to have a sense of style? Some kind of 'eye'?

NAFART. Brown shirts would help you by being a minor form of camouflage, not standing out as a target. Hopefully I have many years before becoming the gray man. http://www.itstactical.com/intellicom/mindset/gray-man-strategies-101-peeling-away-the-thin-veneer-of-society/

@187 those four are rural. Key is Jackson County (KC) and St Louis City.

Kasich is going exactly nowhere. The GOPe now has a choice...accept Trump, go 100% on Cruz and accept him, or vote for Clinton.

Blogger Orville March 15, 2016 11:11 PM

KC has 63% counted with Trump just under 400 votes behind Cruz. Jackson county could still be a win.

It's over. Even if Trump wins now it's lost its luster. I was hoping he'd win it by at least 6 percentage points. I cannot believe it is essentially tied. Though Missouri does have a history of close elections.

I am a little down tonight. Not getting Ohio was big and Trump had to split too many delegates with Cruz in NC and will do the same in MO. It sucks because the whole world is arrayed against Trump and he must win the 1230 delegates to get the nomination, while the others could care less about reaching that summit since they know they can take the nomination in the convention.

I hope Trump runs a third party. And if he is to do so I hope he has enough time to get on the ballots if he waits until this summer's convention to get screwed. I hope that by waiting it out he doesn't harm his chances at a third party run. I doubt he will win this thing at the convention. So hopefully he is planning an independent run.

Holy Crap, all of a sudden Decision Desk shows Clay County going for Kasich ?

@155 Joshua Sinistar

Anyone who believes jews can be reasoned with better take a good look at the Horror that is their mind. The jewish mind is nothing but a bunch of neuroses bound together in paranoia.

That's good. They often admit it, but claim it is just the result of experience. Its the Woody Allen metaphor. Maybe I really AM Jewish. I need a DNA test..........

If I was a Cruzer, I'd be hatin' on Fruit Ninja. Not sure if those same voters would have went to Cruz, but Fruit Ninja is playing serious spoiler right now.

Kasich's vote in IL was directly proportional to the number of Mexican's mowing the lawns in that neighborhood. So if that is where the upper middle class whites live, the result is unsurprising.
