ClarkHat knocks back SJWs

Good to see ClarkHat come out roaring in his first post-Popehat anti-SJW campaign. ESR explains the situation:
In brief: LambdaConf, a technical conference on functional programming, accepted a presentation proposal about a language called Urbit, from a guy named Curtis Yarvin. I’ve looked at Urbit: it is very weird, but rather interesting, and certainly a worthy topic for a functional programming conference.

And then all hell broke loose. For Curtis Yarvin is better known as Mencius Moldbug, author of eccentric and erudite political rents and a focus of intense hatred by humorless leftists. Me, I’ve never been able to figure out how much of what Moldbug writes he actually believes; his writing seems designed to leave a reader guessing as to whether he’s really serious or executing the most brilliantly satirical long-term troll-job in the history of the Internet.

A mob of SJWs, spearheaded by a no-shit self-described Communist named Jon Sterling, descended on LambdaConf demanding that they cancel Yarvin’s talk, pretending that he (rather than, say, the Communist) posed a safety threat to other conference-goers. The conference’s principal organizers, headed up one John de Goes, quite properly refused to cancel the talk, observing that Yarvin was there to talk about his code and not his politics.

I think they conceded to much to the SJWs, actually, by asking Yarvin to issue a statement about his views on violence. Nobody asked Jon Sterling whether he was down with that whole liquidation of the kulaks thing, after all, and if a Communist who likes to tweet about sending capitalists to “hard labor in the North” gets a pass it is not easy to see why any apologia was required from a man with no history of advocating violence at all.

But, ultimately, they did make the right decision: to judge Yarvin’s talk proposal by its technical merit alone. This is the hacker way.

The SJWs then attempted to pressure LambdaConf’s sponsors into withdrawing their support so the conference would have to be canceled. Several sponsors withdrew (I don’t know details about who; my sources for this part are secondhand).

So far, so wearily familiar – Marxist thugs versus free expression, with free expression’s chances not looking so hot. But there’s where the story gets good. Meredith Patterson and her friends at the blog Status 451 organized a counterpunch. They launched an IndieGoGo campaign Save LambdaConf …and an open society.
The campaign is already fully funded. But I thought some of you in the tech world might like to know about it, and be a part of it. There are many ways to help fund the alt-right's war against the SJWs, and helping those who are victims of their successful attacks is an important defensive strategy, as it will embolden those who are standing up to them.

And good for LambdaConf for standing by its speakers rather than caving to the SJW-converged sponsors. This is how cultural wars are won, one hard-earned victory after another.

I also think naming and shaming the sponsors who backed out is always worthwhile if you have the info. I like to know who I am dealing with when I spend my money.

While ESR was able to get it crowdfunded, and it counts as win that way, the war isn't over. The sponsors are the Amiable Authority that the SJWs were secondarily targeting, and people's jobs still are still in the crosshairs.

Has anyone put together a database of companies that are friendly to free speech and those that are hostile? Knowing where to get sponsorships that wont run from the pointing and shrieking could save a lot of effort.

Want to talk about racism, what do you think the demographic info of non compliant patients will look like after this? If they are forced to release the data it would explain a lot of health outcome differences.

Anonymous Bellator Mortalis April 04, 2016 10:55 AM

There are several problems that Nock/Hock/Urbit are trying to solve. But in the real world humans don't care. Example: you want distributed processing on large datasets? Use Hadoop. You want a universal human language? Well you could use Esperanto - but the rest of the world will use English.

In the EUSSR (soon in Zombie-Banana Empire once either Cruzman-Sachs or the Hildebeast ascends the teleprompter-reader's chair), National Socialists are illegal but Communists (whose death tool exceeds that of the most evilest of evil persons in all of history by mulltiples) are all permitted to operate in the open and receive massive funding from Heidi's bosses and the like. If the ostensible purpose of all this censorship and banning of parties is to "prevent violence", seems like Communists and Musloids should be at the top of the list in light of the sheer body counts. That's not really what it's about naturally.

Blogger Sevron April 04, 2016 11:20 AM

Somebody read SJWAL:

Blogger frigger611 April 04, 2016 11:36 AM

@18 - Yeah, Matt Joseph complains that minorities are held to a different standard as they look for funding and investors.

Yes. This is because people who invest are still free to make up their own minds and are largely very well informed. So they are aware of the "different standards" that also exist in academia, and unfairly benefit people who really don't deserve to be there in the first place.

When Matt Joseph fights to remove racial biases from admissions to top universities, he might see an improvement on the other side of things later in life after college.

This just proves how horribly misguided it is to coddle people only because of gender and skin color in the first place - to give them constant, everlasting praise, without ever a hint of criticism. They end up failures who can only blame the unfair world around them.

I always find it amusing when people don't understand Moldbug. "It's too long! He doesn't make sense!"

It reminds me of the time I was a substitute teacher in a heavily latino school and all the fat girls kept on looking at me with saying "I don GET it!"

I'm just not that in to tech. I realize it has it's uses, but I'm doing good to do dishes, or even eat, on any given day. Still, I would like to help. Just to cause SJW's a bloody nose, and, as you suggest, support the better way. Problem is, everything requires so much involvement. New e-attachments, sign ins, e-money. I looked for a physical address, didn't find. A small check is what I was thinking. It's not that I can't, it's more that I won't get on some list. Might even not do a check, just a money order. As much so that I don't get harassed to give more over time, as that I am secure from fraud... more secure. Yeah, no... I don't even trust my church at that level anymore, or the other charities. May go to strictly cash, and money orders for other, otherwise, good charity options. Gah!

Anonymous Jack Amok April 04, 2016 11:54 AM

Excellent new, though I would not describe crowdfunding the conference as a "counterpunch." A counterpunch would be getting Jon Sterling fired.

Like Steelpalm in post #2, I want to know who these sponsors are, who withdraw in two seconds the moment SJWs start their shit.

Of course, most organizations are run by SJWs. It's not so much coercion, it's collusion.

And that's why these sponsors need to die in a fire (literally). I want to know the name of every organization that COLLUDES, and I don't care if they claim they were threatened, so I can never use their product or services again, ever.

In the 1990s, Smith & Wesson signed on to "compliance" with Bill Clinton's gun control. Basically, they tried to be some sort of "colluding gun maker". S&W was owned back then by some British company.

The result: NOBODY wanted a Smith & Wesson gun. Period. We would not even take a free one in a raffle.

The result? They ended up getting sold by the holding corporation and under new ownership, changed their policies and revitalized, also improved their product line. Now S&W is back to being a household name and they make some good products.

This is how it has to happen. Remember there are only three kinds of votes that ever mattered, the only kind that change any damned thing in this slaughterhouse world:

1. With your wallet
2. With your feet
3. With your gun (usually resorted to when you are already robbed and cornered)

I see the lib writers are using the old "pro-slavery" slander to describe Yarvin in headlines about the affair.

Anonymous tublecane April 04, 2016 2:24 PM

@26-I can understand people being unsure exactly what he believes, because that's built into his writing style. He's discursive, he's sarcastic, he wildly exaggerates, he uses loose rhetoric, and so forth. Also, like most of us he hasn't figured out everything under the sun and probably doesn't always fully know what he's getting at, but pretends to be just short of all-knowing. Who doesn't?

However, to suggest that it was all a put on, and that he's just trolling? That would require him to be a psychopath, I figure. A psychopath with a lot of time on his hands. Also, his writing is part of a larger movement, something that goes under various names and is often called the Dark Enlightenment. If Moldbug is parodying the Dark Enlightenment he's doing a really bad job of it.

Anonymous Hound's Tooth Check April 04, 2016 6:29 PM

He'd have to have a job before you could do that.

Totally unfair. Moldbug didn't propose enslaving shiftless darkies, he proposed putting them in cells and giving them VR to keep them docile.
