Interview with a dark lord

Louise Mensch of Heat Street interviewed me about the Hugos, Donald Trump, the SJW List, and other matters:
Interview: The Rabid Puppies And Vox Day Bite the Hugo Awards

Tell me about the Hugo Awards. Are the Sad Puppies still sad?

The Sad Puppies are, to all intents and purposes, irrelevant. They have been replaced by the Rabid Puppies, mostly thanks to the egregiously obnoxious behavior of the SJWs in science fiction at the 2015 Hugo Awards ceremony. That converted most of the Sad Puppies to Rabid Puppies, which is why the Rabid Puppies accounted for 62 64 shortlist nominations of the 80 we recommended this year. The SF-SJWs said they were sending a message last year, and the message we heard was “bring more Puppies”. So we did.

You were nominated for Best Editor and SJWs Always Lie was nominated for Best Related Work. Congratulations!

Thank you so much. But the two nominations I’m most pleased about are Jerry Pournelle’s long-overdue Best Editor nomination for his There Will Be War series, and, of course, Chuck Tingle’s “Space Raptor Butt Invasion”. We’re taking diversity in science fiction to a whole new level there.

"and, of course, Chuck Tingle’s “Space Raptor Butt Invasion”. We’re taking diversity in science fiction to a whole new level there."

It's awesome how you keep framing that.

"You want diversity? Well you're going to get it, good and hard!"

12. Who should be Trump’s VP?

Mo Brooks, the Congressman from Alabama.

"A Little Mo Trump Y'all"
"Mo Trump, Mo' Freedom"

The slogan possibilities are endless, really

Dude... Vox you are awesome man, takes a lot of insanity to just go and say that. Well not that the SJW's don't help!

Well Vox I salute you, now go get those Hugos and make the most butt invasive acceptance speech ever. Talk about your tough life in the reservation and growing up a lolbertarian and how you came do disbelieve in Free Trade (BRING GRAPHS!) and how tough it is to be a Vikings fan on this day and age... T_T tell them Vox! Tell them how GRRM not including you in his shitty novels of late made fantasize about space raptors; how Scalzi's rejection of you .... Was actually a good thing because who would want to have Scalzi in a dress in their minds!?! Tell them bro!

6. Racist thought and expression is protected under the first amendment; expression of racism in public is an act, rather like the expression of bias displayed by Zoe Quinn. Acts are fair game. Discuss.

I totally disagree. This is a straightforward violation of the Aristotelian principle of non-contradiction. A cannot be Not A. If expression is protected by the First Amendment, then it is protected and it is therefore not fair game. A thought is also an act, after all. But the important thing is that if people can lose their jobs for freely speaking their racist or anti-semitic views in private, they can just as easily lose them for speaking their Zionist, or feminist, or libertarian views.

That would negate the whole point of protecting free expression, which is to avoid a merciless struggle for thought and speech control. You should never assume your side is always going to be on top, and a civilized society depends upon not backing one’s ideological opponents into corners.

Great answer.

A rather wide-ranging interview. Interesting.

Anonymous kfg April 27, 2016 11:53 AM

The limits of "Free Expression" are already well defined and have been for millennia:

Don't murder.
Don't steal.
Don't purjure.

We can do without Don't Think and still have effect control on murderers, thieves and perjurers.

You know, I was just thinking about the interesting turns of events that have led me to where I am now. I've been reading here for about 7 years now, then Sad Puppies got me into reading books again, which led to the serendipitous event of reading Chesterton's The Man Who was Thusday a week before five guys. I see it more in more in being a part of Gamergate, Rabid Puppies, and the rise of Trump that we are all the sort of dynamiters that are unwittingly following the real Sunday. It's been a good ride, and my pile of scalps is a mark of pride for me. For anyone who hasn't joined in on any of the fronts, the only thing you have to lose is weakness. I guarantee that one day there will be history books written about what we do from here.

Anonymous Leonidas April 27, 2016 12:12 PM

I second the Mo Brooks vote, Vox. He's my local congressman, and he'd be an utterly fantastic choice. He's also proven in the past that he can take the heat and handle it quite well.

He was also the subject of my favorite political interview ever.

@10 Never saw that one...that is brilliant. Credentialism, disqualification, journalism, equalitarianism and the Narrative all blowtorched with a simple "Yes, Ma'am."

She sounded like she just stepped on a rake after that one.

Even so it is a sign of how far the Idiocracy has reached that she would walk straight into a trap she had set herself like that.

The least research you can do before conducting an interview is spend a couple of minutes on Wikipedia.

On it. A Depression Quest-style text adventure?

You are standing in Hangar Bay 7. A Space Raptor is at the other end of the bay, and you have dropped the key to the California-mandated trigger lock on your space blaster. Do you?

1. Point the useless weapon at the Space Raptor anyway, hoping it doesn't know it's useless.

2. Inform the Space Raptor this is a safe space and it must leave.

3. Turn around and bend over to pick up the key.

Anonymous BluePony April 27, 2016 12:51 PM

My awareness of Chuck Tingle actually comes from the Kindle Cover Disasters site where he's become something of the site's patron saint. There was a whole series of recursive ones where the previous book in the series was a character in the next book. Gay or not, that's a level of weirdness I can (wait for it...) get behind.

"Now we just need Space Raptor Butt Invasion the Video Game."

I'd take a shot but it would just be a reskinned Custer's Revenge.

There's an audio book version. I can only hope they went full up radio play acting and sound effects like the Deathlands series.

Not obvious to me, I'm afraid; I would have thought it a German name, since the word is spelled in the German manner, rather than the Yiddish, which would be Mentsh (מענטש). Experts at camouflage.

A large number came to the US from Germany and had adopted said German spellings.

It is very interesting to see that Louise Mensch interviewed you, Vox.

Why do you think she was willing to give you the platform to talk about your views? Do you think she is part of increasing number of Jews who start to get afraid of the non-white and anti-white SWJ who see Jews as whites too?

Blogger JaimeInTexas April 27, 2016 3:35 PM

I read the interview at http://heatst.com and have been reading some articles there. I ran into the Mizzou article. Whoa! Mizziou is in real deep shit.

http://heatst.com/culture-wars/inside-the-fallout-at-mizzou/

(snip)
This passionate backlash doesn’t appear to have been a bluff. Already, freshman enrollment is down 25%, leaving a $32 million funding gap and forcing the closure of four dorms. The month after the protests, donations to the athletic department were a mere $191,000—down 72% over the same period a year earlier. Overall fundraising also took a big hit.

Here’s the timeline of what happened on campus and the avalanche of negative feedback that followed—including a sampling of the messages Mizzou leadership received.

(snip)
Nov. 10: A senior internal recruiter for TEKsystems, an information-technology company that hires hundreds of new college graduates a year, writes to the director for student-athlete development: “With everything that is going on at the school, I regret to inform you that we are unable to attend the career fair today.”

(snip)
Nov. 16: Grandmother writes that she will “pull every dime” from her granddaughter’s tuition trust “before I allow her to set foot on your campus.” She continues: “What is occurring there is a national and academic disgrace and embarrassment! Absolutely disgusting!”

Anonymous Philipp April 27, 2016 3:39 PM

JaimeInTexas - I read the same article. Good to see that there is a backlash.

Anonymous kfg April 27, 2016 3:52 PM

I'm waiting to see if there is any backlash at Yale, now that we are reliably informed that it isn't about creating an intellectual space.

Anonymous VFM #6306 April 27, 2016 3:54 PM

Yale has a bigger endowment. They can virtue signal for decades.

Blogger James Dixon April 27, 2016 4:12 PM

> Yale has a bigger endowment. They can virtue signal for decades.

Yeah. Missouri is a state university. They're dependent on state funding. If the alumni aren't happy, the legislature is going to hear about it, and that funding may be in jeopardy unless changes are made.

Anonymous kfg April 27, 2016 4:15 PM

Yes, but that speaks to their ability to weather a backlash, not about a backlash itself.

Anonymous BGKB April 27, 2016 4:40 PM

We can do without Don't Think and still have effect control on murderers, thieves and perjurers.

VA's governor just broke his states constitution to allow all those people to vote & serve on juries. Seriously some places might be able to pack the jury with rapists if you have a good lawyer get a jury of your peers. Jury forman Shitivus Cook " We find the defendant not guilty despite the video evidence and confession"

I ran into the Mizzou article. Whoa! Mizziou is in real deep shit.

Just think that 25% enrollment drop is from the smartest Asian/White students that would have gone there. It will turn into a jungle. Remember Oxford just had a bunch of 3rd world black Rhode's ""scholars"" demanding Rhodes' statue be taken down, and the donors made it clear what would happen.

Blogger VD April 27, 2016 5:10 PM

@8 Lots of strange... well, I'll call them ideas of reference for me. There is a lawyer in rural Acadia who offended the local tubal cain clique and was railroaded... his name was George Martin. Vox looks and acts just like a fellow I know who runs a farm. And one direct Gamergate connection to a personal legal case that will be revealed soon.

"She is genuinely committed to diversity of views."

This doesn't seem to jibe well with the view she expressed in the interview: "Ben Shapiro wants to get racists fired, so do I."

I think she belongs on the SJW List until such time as she publicly disavows her desire to "get racists fired." Do you disagree? If so, why?

Blogger VD April 27, 2016 6:53 PM

Because desires are not sufficient to qualify one for the list.
