Look out, SF fandom

Mike Cernovich is taking scalps:
Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska will not be running for President after his connection to pedophiles was revealed by Mike Cernovich of Danger & Play Media. (Read: Ben Sasse and #NeverTrump’s Pedophile Problem.)

This entire election season Sasse has building up his personal brand by attacking Trump. Sasse had not taken a principled stand against anyone else on the right, and thus he’s engaging in showmanship marketing in an effort to run for president.

His campaign for president began gaining momentum, with establishment conservatives hailing him as a hero. He was primed to run, and then I scalped him.

Sasse claimed to be a political outsider, so I began digging. Far from being an everyman, Sasse was an insider’s insider, working at companies like McKinsey and Company in between stints in Washington, D.C. Yet what was not common knowledge was Sasse’s role as a tutor of underage boys.

Sasse tutored and was sworn to protect underage boys working as Congressional pages. Yet pages were constantly abused, and I suspected, were abused under his watch. When I raise those concerns to Sasse, he went radio silent.
Radio silence is a good way to describe the science fiction's response to the considerable amount of smoke surrounding Samuel Delaney, just to specifically name one oft-celebrated individual. Notice that despite the science fiction community's retroactive distancing from H.P. Lovecraft, Marion Zimmer Bradley has not yet been stripped of a single award or honor, DAW still publishes her Darkover books, and Tor Books still publishes her "Light" series.

So why are DAW and Tor Books still publishing Marion Zimmer Bradley in the full knowledge of her crimes? Do they endorse child abuse? It certainly puts a very dark spin on the title of Tor Books editor Patrick Nielsen Hayden's blog, "Making Light".

There is one review of SafeSpace as a Rape Room so far... and it assures everyone how utterly and obviously dumb and fake the piece is. its so obviously dumb and fake it totally should NOT be included in the Hugo Packet.

which is odd.

See when I think something is dumb and fake and want to expose it as dumb and fake... I show it to people. I want lots of people to see how dumb and fake it is.

but that's not what they want. They want to hide Safe Space as a Rape Room.

Unpossible! Sasse is a conservative Republican, which makes him a baseball-playing, hot dog-eating, Mom's apple pie-loving, Chevy-driving, God-fearing, evangelical Christian, patriotic American stalwart incapable of such filth. Must be another vile plot, perpetrated by the evil Democrats, to bring a hero down.

Blogger CarpeOro May 12, 2016 8:56 AM

"Making sure Light never shines on our darkness" may be a more appropriate title as odds are that was what he was thinking when he titled the blog.

Anonymous Gecko May 12, 2016 8:57 AM

I don't think we've seen the tip of the iceberg with how vile our government is. It's irksome that so many fellow Christians legitimize it because of a misconstrued Bible passage.

Re. Sci-Fi: I couldn't care less about Delaney and Bradley, but it was very disappointing to hear about Clarke and, now, Lovecraft. As for politicians, well, it's never a surprise when something slimy like this comes out about one.

It won't. But it should.

@1 Nate, this reminds me of a line I heard some time ago. I know the label "conservative" is held in suspicion around here, but the general idea still applies: "Liberals want conservatives to shut up. Conservatives want liberals to keep talking."

Blogger Stg58/Animal Mother May 12, 2016 9:42 AM

If Cernovich really wants to go after Sasse definitively, he'll peg Sasse as being connected to the Franklin Scandal. Sasse is from Nebraska, and pedophilia runs as deep in the GOP as it does in pink SF.

If Sasse is connected, and thinks Cernovich is on to him about that connection, I can see why Sasse would go radio silent.

Read 'The Franklin Coverup' by former Nebraska state senator John DeCamp. It's connected to that infamous headline from the Washington Times claiming male prostitution going on in the Reagan/Bush white house.

Blogger Josh May 12, 2016 9:42 AM

none of us have a problem with Mike asking questions and investigating. That's not it.

Blogger Mike Farnsworth May 12, 2016 10:06 AM

Josh, did you actually read the article? Sasse was the head of the Congressional page program while the sexual abuse and manipulation of those boys was happening under his nose. When the investigation happened, and then later info was revealed about specific members of Congress, Sasse should have been quick then as now to condemn the behavior and drop support for the people perpetuating it. He was responsible for those boys.

Mike asked him to do just that, and he went silent. Circumstantial at best? Sure, but still quite telling. Mike promoting himself in the process? Sure, but who cares, he's got a point.

You obviously don't like Mike much, but that's irrelevant to whether he's right.

(And Sasse, presidential ambitions or not, was clearly trying to get in the limelight. Cernovich helped cut that off. Sasse deserved it, IMO.)

Blogger Josh May 12, 2016 10:08 AM

Blogger Gaiseric May 12, 2016 10:12 AM

@29: Not even that. Cernovich is applying the same standard to Sasse that Sasse was demanding of Trump with regards to disavowal of unsavory characters (of which David Duke is supposedly one.) It's also an interesting parallel with the sci-fi scene where rhetorical attacks of "racsist!" are being met with rhetorical attacks of "pedophile!" or at least enabler.

The complaints here are those getting lost in the weeds a bit.

I'm pretty sure Mike was making his demands the same way Sasse was demanding of Trump. It was all social media status signalling. Mike is throwing it right back in his face and in the process promoting his own brand.

I dont always believe everything Mike writes about himself, but the way he goes about it is both revealing and entertaining.

Interesting. My brother in Nebraska was telling me about that last week. We were wondering when it would matter. I doubt Sasse will be primaried when his term comes up or anything like that though it would be enjoyable to see it become an election issue for him. Nebraskan Repubs love them some corrupt, McCain style RINOS. If the Nebraska primary had been earlier Cruz would have won decisively.

Nate is right. Graham Spanier, for one thing, was at Nebraska following the Franklin cover-up, implemented a coerced pro-gay environment on campus, and likely had access to records that went missing. Then he went to Penn State.

Before all of that, his research was about how to normalize aberrant family sexual relations.

These pedo rings endure for so long in part because if people come out against them, even normal people are often repelled by the whistleblower because of the visceral nature of the subject matter.

you can buy a stainless DPF delete pipe but all that does is make it easy for a truck inspector ( and i hear California is getting really finicky about this, especially for out of state plates ) to know that you've jacked with the exhaust. much better to keep the OEM pipe but pull all the guts out.

If you put a harmonic dampener on the barrel it will shoot to point of aim for at least a few shots. Or so I'm reliably told by a professional shooter employed by Ruger.

There is one thing that does make a difference. The slide assembly has to rest square to the gas block; otherwise it squirts your barrel around. This little trick comes from M1 Garand tuning. To get it there, you 'merely' put some controlled bends in the arm. I used an arbor press.

My suspicion is that the POI rise is from uneven heating under the barrel from escaping gasses. I haven't noodled a solution to that yet.

# 7 VD: You misunderstand. They're after him for his racism. If he'd been a pedophile, they'd be protecting him.

The collection of Lovecraft's letters in "Lord of a Visible World" describes his views of other races and cultures. Disdain is the right word for the smog-engulfed, scurrying which described the lower classes in the New York of the 1920s.

Today this sentiment would be shared by a vast majority of middle to upper-class people who visit a city alien from their own domestic navigators.

Those who think Lovecraft was a racist are sjws. They want to degrade him to a caricature of their molding. Lovecraft would call them spawn of a giant swamp slug.

Okay! Another test of my hypothesis about TDS.

David P. Goldman is a Modern Orthodox Jew, but he appears to believe in a separation of religion and nationalism. The mother of his children is Mexican, so he has some divided loyalties there, and shows some TDS-lite in wanting to punch Trump in the face.

However, the linked article is all about arguing for Trump over Hillary from a very pragmatic perspective. So I will say that the converse of my hypothesis does not necessarily hold: just because someone has a split identity or divided loyalty, does not necessarily mean that he will have full-blown Trump Derangement Syndrome. So the inverse is also not necessarily true, but a case where the contrapositive is false would of course disprove it (or at least require some modification).

Cernovich is trying to hammer Senator Sasse with accusations that currently belong in the category of “guilt by association.” Cernovich is also exaggerating when he says he ended Sasse’s presidential campaign before it started.

Sure, Cernovich may ultimately be more right about Senator Sasse than even Cernovich knows. But none of us really know the truth of Cernovich's allegations against Senator Sasse at this point. And we may never know.

Senator Sasse (first Senate term) presents himself as something of a principled, yet strategic-minded, conservative--someone who has clearly spent considerable time thinking about "conservative solutions" to pressing problems.

However, Sasse was unprepared for Cernovich’s twitter riposte, which seems to have taken the gentleman from Nebraska by complete and unpleasant surprise. At a minimum, this indicates that Sasse is not tactically/rhetorically adept where social media is concerned.

And if a politician can't master the challenges inherent in communicating through social media, then that politician needs to consider a new line of work.

Bottom-line Questions: Will the Senator “double down” on his criticism of Donald Trump? Or will he quietly let it go?

Stay tuned.

Senator Sasse (first Senate term) presents himself as something of a principled, yet strategic-minded, conservative

1 - Sasse's refusal to abide by the same principles that he demands of everyone else demonstrates that he's a lying hypocrite. ie - he has no principles

2 - Sasse's inability to foresee the obvious response, from both Trump AND his supporters, demonstrates that he has the strategic sense of a lump of moldy cheese. he's only been watching Trump slaughter the cucks for going on a year now and he hasn't learned a goddamn thing. he got schlonged by some schlub from the internet, he's supposed to stand up to the God Emperor should Trump gaze upon him?

3 - conservative, is he? what's he conserving? the right to homo wedding cakes? the right to force tax payers to pay for sex changes and abortions?

4 - he graduated from Harvard. enough said.

further lying from Sasse, "he stated that Trump had refused to condemn the Ku Klux Klan". that's as bald faced a lie as you can get.

Sasse's opinion about the Republican response to Obamacare? "and opining that Republicans had failed to offer a useful alternative to the ACA". mother fucking piece of shit, the "alternative" to Obamacare is GET THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF INTERFERING IN THE HEALTHCARE MARKET.

TK-1488: What's not to like about a 800 credit low bidder carbine that the Empire can tweak and customize for 1500 credits a piece to make shoot nearly as good as a 20 year old 600 credit Republic DC-15?

even normal people are often repelled by the whistleblower because of the visceral nature of the subject matter

Its more likely that social workers simply don't want stories to exist that don't fit the narrative. Just like Stefan Molyneux pointing out that women genetic councilors will not tell men when a kid isn't their's despite them being able to have normal kids.

Several years ago, when the page first started,Breitbart Big London had several huge articles about how the authorities are now investigating just how deeply the abuse of boys went in Parliament. It seems at the same time, some comments were being made by authorities about conducting the same investigation into Congress as well.

I suspect that they are just waiting until either the worst of the abusers is dead, or they leave office before they really get serious about the investigations. There are a whole lot of very powerful toes in both bodies that the investigators have to avoid stepping on.
