Now, that can't be right!

First the site traffic, then the Hugo nominations, and now the Amazon rank. I wonder what there is left to envy? The television shows? The movie options? No, not those....

Oh, man - the yard photo that's sure to come next!

When the alt-right gains a foothold in mass media, the shift to the right should be noticeable. People want to be engaged and the pc media either sprinkles fairy dust on important issues or whips out the forked tongue on its opponents.

The alt-right focuses on objective, observable truths and the sjws want us to focus on their degenerate spewing.

Maybe next VD can be the first editor to win an anti-Hugo for excellence in politically incorrect science fiction.

Blogger Ingot9455 June 03, 2016 6:01 PM

John Scalzi is really at that 'No One Left To Lie To' stage. Or in his case, more 'No One Left To Rip Off'.

Blogger SirHamster June 03, 2016 6:01 PM

So yet more plates spun in the background ...

Live action or animated?

Y-y-you'll see!

Scalzi's totally-original and all-new FOUNDATI--I mean, THE COLLAPSING RECTUM is going to drop in 2017.

Maybe.

BEHOLD, A PREMISE EVEN MORE INTRINSICALLY FUCKTARDED THAN BERNIE SANDERS' IDEAS:

Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It’s a hedge against interstellar war—and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

Praise for THE COLLAPSING RECTUM:

* "Get me our contract lawyer. Fucking NOW!" - Patrick Toadfucker-Hayden, Editor

* "Black, black, blackity-black. Blaaaaaaacccccckkkkk." - K. Tempest Blackford, Black Lady

* "I eat Dorito crumbs from my beard." - GRR Martin, Rape Aficionado

This all makes me wish I could have afforded to join the Brainstorm group for the planning and, more importantly, the advanced notice of what the Dark Lord is going to do.
I may have to find some kind of part time job to get into all that.
The suspense is palatable.

I thoroughly enjoy how his photo gives him the appearance of looking up to you in an admiring manner.

Blogger Melampus the Seer June 03, 2016 6:17 PM

Wait. I thought white men played the game of life on the easiest setting. So how did Scalzi lose to a red man? Vox is playing on Realistic settings. Scalzi on Recruit. And Vox still beat him. GG, Vox.

Anonymous VFM #6306 June 03, 2016 6:26 PM

Now, to be fair, John Scalzi hasn't written original Science Fiction since...publishing his fabricated web stats.

You messed with the wrong injun, hombro.

Scalzi is just ripping off the opening credits of the Brady Bunch. I think he's channeling Cindy in that photo.

Blogger Pseudotsuga June 03, 2016 6:29 PM

Totally worth the contract he "earned" from Tor. Great foresight, PNH ... hope it was worth it.

Your book covers are much better looking than Scalzi's - even as tiny thumbnails. His look like those of 1990s romance novels. Of course considering who likely comprises Scalzi's core readership this should come as no surprise.

Blogger newanubis June 03, 2016 6:38 PM

Oh, to witness the look on his face when he gazed upon this! The hampster must've gone into hyperdrive.

Blogger Cataline Sergius June 03, 2016 7:01 PM

How Scalzi will justify this:

Vox is a Native American and therefore due to Scalzi's own White Privilege...

Blogger Sun Xhu June 03, 2016 7:12 PM

@3. Steffen:
"Maybe next VD can be the first editor to win an anti-Hugo for excellence in politically incorrect science fiction."

Anti-Hugo, nothing to do with Venezuela, is the breaking meme. In Bizarro Hugos, Vox Day portrays our new hero, Bizarro Hugo, the hero the alt-right can havez.

Blogger Nate June 03, 2016 7:23 PM

Obviously Vox has gamed the amazon system by selling books to people.

Blogger NCD June 03, 2016 7:25 PM

Blogger Groot June 03, 2016 7:25 PM

For the more dim-witted amongst us, that rhymes with "Chavez." For the even-more dimwitted, that means "Hugo Chavez." For the even more dimmer-dim-witted, that refers to Hugo Chavez, the now-dead socialist dictator of Venezuela, father of the unexpectedly-popular billionaire's daughter, 'cause socialists care.

And, and, there's no way Vox will ever compare to Scalzi on ukulele https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSqMJV1Yhrg Scalzi will totally own "Loser"... forever.

Slash's Big Stupid Hat wrote:Totally worth the contract he "earned" from Tor. Great foresight, PNH ... hope it was worth it.

Hmm. Let's say you are an SFF writer shopping for a publisher. You'll want to see how much dough they're dumping into one author and how's that workin' out for them? Anything left in the kitty to market your book?

Who's Bitch This Is: Scalzi Edition

Anonymous Spartacus xxxxx June 03, 2016 7:40 PM

Erratum. Scalzi will totally own "Creep"... forever. And "Loser".

Blogger seeingsights June 03, 2016 7:45 PM

There have been writers whose books were popular at one time, but were forgotten in a generation. Robert W. Chambers was one. His sappy romance novels were popular, but thirty years later no one was reading them. He is only remembered now for his horror stories.

I predict John Scalzi will be mostly forgotten in thirty years. The Amazon ranking already shows that his once popular books, published years ago, are further down the sales rank.
Looking at those books, only one--Old Man's War--has a shot--a small one-- at standing the test of time. None of his books should be mentioned in the same breath as Dune, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Ubik, and a few others.

Anonymous NateM June 03, 2016 7:47 PM

"And, and, there's no way Vox will ever compare to Scalzi on ukulele "

Now sometime next month Vox will release a vid of him covering When Doves Cry on Uke....for no particular reason...

Anonymous luis June 03, 2016 8:36 PM

I'm confused how amazon ranks authors. Scalzi wrote all of the books next to him on the screen cap. Vox didn't. Seems we're comparing apples and "editors".

Anonymous Steve June 03, 2016 8:37 PM

seeingsights - I predict John C. Wright's books will still be read, and cherished, in 30 years time. I think the reputation of his work will only grow with the passing of time, because of its innate quality.

A lot of authors are popular because their books are zeitgeisty or serviceable but uninspired pastiches of better writers who went before them. There's no shame in that, but it's a lot harder to do what JCW does.

His Golden Oecumene trilogy and AWAKE IN THE NIGHT LAND are modern masterpieces. SOMEWHITHER was a fantastic book too, in every sense.

I get the feeling the only reason he isn't getting movie offers and the like (yet) is because his work is so hard to pigeonhole in a neat marketing category or sell in a single sentence. It's startlingly original, with its own baroque style and timeless themes that stand almost as a rebuke to (Current Year) sensibilities.

He's the Howard Roark of SFF writers.

Blogger Geary Digit June 03, 2016 8:43 PM

I'm seeing Scalzi at #94 and you are not on the list. Perhaps there is some slate voting/monkey business going on with this app? Its labeled "beta" so I am wondering if the code warriors aren't changing the requirements and/or manipulating the list as we speak.

Noah B, how is 4chan trying to start witch hunts against somebody they don't like the fault of that person? Sam Hyde doesn't really want to be constantly reported as a mass shooter.

I don't think he's really done his best work yet. "Iron Chamber of Memory" is lovely, but I suspect it's merely a warmup.

High praise indeed, and I thank you for your kind words.

And yet it is Author who wrote me into the Great Story of the World who is the one who deserves the credit for whatever this lesser author, who works for Him, accomplishes that is good or bright or lasting.

I take full credit for saucy, tasteless scenes and spelling errors in my work, however.
