The backfire

Republican establishment snobs, and those who lick their loafers, can't seem to grasp that the more they sneer at Donald Trump, the stronger Trump's support becomes:
If I hear one more of my conservative/libertarian “high IQ” colleagues (many of them long-time friends) denigrate Trump as stupid, racist, sexist or (I kid you not)  not “really” successful–I may puke.

One certainly may oppose Trump’s policies on a principled basis.  But to hear the right-of-center intelligentsia (who may be well-educated and perhaps even have high IQs, but are not necessarily intelligent) denigrate the presumptive GOP nominee–selected by We the People–using the same leftist tactics used to denigrate George W. Bush and many other conservative standard-bearers, is nauseating.

These “high IQ” members of the GOP intelligentsia simply cannot hide their disdain for ordinary Americans’ selection of a GOP nominee, yet they simultaneously claim that the GOP represents ordinary Americans’ values. The GOP intelligentsia is behaving like a delusional narcissist, reveling in its (false) superiority over the little people.
Actions have consequences. Faithlessness begets the loss of credibility. And the more those who urged dubious conservatives to swallow their doubts and dutifully line up behind George W. Bush, John McCain, and Mitt Romney bluster and posture about how they are going to support Hillary Clinton or Bill Kristol's Israel First third party, the less anyone is going to listen to them.

I merely jest, of course. Bill Kristol's third party isn't going to be called Israel First. I understand Likud USA will the actual name.

A comment on the Bush-bashing. After 9/11 the investigation revealed an admission by a high-up (can't remember a name, but he was a Clinton appointee).

He admitted and sought forgiveness for enabling the Political correctness and inter-governmental in-fighting that allowed the hijackers to operate undisturbed in the US (flight training, odd passport/flight agenda).

A high-level leftist admitted that.

So yes, Bush had his faults, but I place most of the blame on political correctness causing us to drop our defenses. Similar to the Rotherham Pakistani rape gangs and the police's hands being tied/cowardice.

Blogger James Dixon June 01, 2016 6:09 AM

I figure Kristol's third party will draw fewer votes than the Constitutionalist, Libertarian, or Green parties. Though if he does pull it off, I hope Sanders takes the Green nomination they're certain to offer him.

Give it up. Bush was the president. He was a liar from the start. There was absolutely nothing good about him and idiot conservatives put him into power despite being repeatedly warned by people like me prior to 2000.

It wasn't the fault of political correctness, it was the fault of every Republican who was dumb enough to overlook the totally obvious and support Bush.

Anonymous Steve June 01, 2016 6:16 AM

It's called the RENEGADE PARTY (sadly not affiliated with Lorenzo Lamas, who is a Trumpeteer), and they're a RIOT.

They're (all 5,000 of them on Twitter) now talking up DAVID A FRENCH for President.

French, who smashes the stereotype that army vets can't be DORKS, is like a balder, conservadaddier version of the popular principal from FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF.

Take THAT, Trump! America's about to fall in love with the FRENCH PRINCE of NRO.

Blogger Snidely Whiplash June 01, 2016 6:17 AM

I always thought Bush seemed a decent enough man, though I never trusted him enough to vote for him. As I learn more about his administration and the man himself, the less I trust my previous assessment.
Clinton, for all his faults of philosophy and character, WAS a decent enough man, if only his manipulative and insanely power hungry wife didn't come as part of the bargain.
Bush is as venal and corrupt as Hillary, but also less obvious and more likeable.

The best part of the 3rd party bid is that they don't want to win, only to throw the contest to congress. I can't believe anyone thinks congress can pick a leader for president.

Blogger Jamie-R June 01, 2016 6:57 AM

There was absolutely nothing good about him and idiot conservatives put him into power despite being repeatedly warned by people like me prior to 2000.

It was a combination of establishment and voters, Donald Rumsfeld or Pat Buchanan should have been nominee in 1988, and Dick Cheney was a guy who couldn't gain any traction by himself. That's the Right having no confidence in itself. GWB was better version than his dad, but the whole Bush clan is repeating their Grandfathers crimes of business with the enemy over American lives. Those 28 pages would highlight their crimes of family over nation. Which is a real problem with allowing bloodlines the Presidency again. Trumps take down is funny because they had a wide grasp of the party. Romney was the fall guy, he loves putting his hand up "You can f me in the arse for the Bush's, I'll do it"

Anonymous Desiderius June 01, 2016 7:31 AM

VD,

"There was absolutely nothing good about him"

That overstates the case. His misspent youth deprived him of the qualities the best men can draw upon in times of crisis, leading him to shit his pants on 9/11 and abandon the "humble" promise. Cheney always planned to renege on that, but Bush didn't. He was too pussy-whipped for that.

Blogger Cataline Sergius June 01, 2016 7:32 AM

This is so clearly and obviously a spoiler campaign it's not going to go anywhere.

You have to have genuine enthusiasm for a guy for him to get any kind of traction. You have to believe in the guy just a little. Even as a spoiler David French is going to be a flop. It's going to take six months to get the guy any kind of name/face recognition. And then look at the face. Baldy McBaldface is not going to generate excitement because he can't. He looks like your accountant's accountant.

I suppose it gives the #nevertrump guys something to do other than being a virtue signaling mugwumps for the next six months, so that's a thing.

Scales are falling from my eyes fast and furiously these days. It's like I'm waking up from a lifetime fever dream. How did I think Libertarianism had a shot when it had Libertarians in it.

Blogger Anchorman June 01, 2016 7:35 AM

The most important issue difference between the GOPe/intelligentsia and the GOP voters who voted for or now support Trump is immigration.

If Trump were openly pro immigration, the GOPe would be fine with him and the voters would have rejected him.

True, his manner of politicking also resonates (no problems offending people who are acting over-sensitive).

However, if it's "High IQ" to open the borders, then you have to really wonder what the real drivers of power know will happen in the next 10 years and why they want all countries poised to fail or in a state of constant chaos from cultural conflict.

Blogger Nate June 01, 2016 7:39 AM

"He promised "a humble foreign policy". He lied."

I would argue he had one. Sure the nation building was dumb... but we had much better relations with Russia and the rest of the world than we do now. It was arguably better than it was the last 4 years under Clinton too... when he was throwing cruise missiles all over the globe to keep everyone from asking about the chubby girl with stains on her dress. So humble compared to what? And what's a humble response to 9/11?

he was a bad president. He was also a bad president that had to deal with much bigger problems than most. he's a long way from the worst ever. i'd stick him somewhere below the average president but not terribly far below.

Blogger Avraham June 01, 2016 7:42 AM

Real politik bit the dust with Dubya. Example was personal family issues with Saddam. Saddam was a leader of a nation yes, but also a petty criminal with mafioso style hits, so they would have been worried. They just leveraged the USA's military to reinforce their family's personal security.

Blogger Mr.MantraMan June 01, 2016 7:44 AM

It's pretty short-sighted to look at the Arab world as nations and not Islamoland. That's something 15 years of this war has taught the West. But we have much more to learn! I tend to find the fun in watching people get what they deserve. The areas you'd predict would get hit usually do. Not rocket science to watch it without being hurt. Planes linked to Islamic countries dropping out of sky is trend now, eventually luggage handlers of West will put a few whoopsie doos on our planes, one handler in Perth here was caught liking ISIS posts, under an alias no less. Truman. A 50KT dropped on Mecca.

I don't discount the shadow government's influence on Bush. Upon Kennedy's assassination, it's reported that Johnson said something along the lines of, "If they want a war in southeast Asia, I'll give 'em a war in southeast Asia."

Dr Steven Dutch however did have an important point. He said that people that could not tell the difference between the republican and the democrats should not be allowed to vote. I'm not terribly fond of Trump, but this is spectacularly dumb on Kristol's part. Even if David French was a genetic clone of Barry Goldwater, he's got zero name recognition and it's too little, too late. Scott Walker warned the GOP they needed to clear out the field if they wanted to avoid Trump's name on the ticket -- but they didn't listen.

(Insert obligatory Ron Paul 'you could have stopped this' jpeg here)

So yeah, I'm with Kurt Schlichter on this one. If it looked like it was going to be Trump vs Bernie, I'd just sit it out and eat popcorn. But as long as the Haggard Queen continues to try and grasp for power, I'll be opposing her. Period. That bitch is dangerous.

Bret Stephens is Jewish. He is telling us WASPs that we "are going to have to learn OUR Lesson"....Say What? A Jew is telling us Europeans what we can and can not do!

Read it here: Stephens, Trump needs a decisive loss

This is so disgusting. They are doing the same thing they did to Barry Goldwater--sabotage. One of the planks of the Enlightenment was to give the Jew his freedom and liberty to move about Europe, to wipe out all sorts of restrictions laid upon the Jews. ---So this is the fruit of that "Enlightenment". We are certainly enlightened now--it is "Government by the Jew for the Jew" in America. We are going to "be taught a lesson" by the Jews in this country! All hail Bill Kristol the real President of America! Let's here it John Hagee.

I'm troubled, but not surprised, by the boorish dismissal of David A French's electoral chances.

David A French has his finger on the pulse of the vital matters of great national import that are absolutely crucial to all true conservatives: where trannies do their poo poos and/or pee pees.

He is bravely outspoken in lampooning college social justice warriors. Every blue haired 400 lb Tumblrina lives in fear of his razor-sharp criticism on National Review Online.

And his adoption of a coal-black Ethiop will finally prove, once and for all, that Democrats are the REAL racists.

As a Harvard-educated lawyer, he'd be a breath of fresh air in American politics.

All we need to complete the dream team is for Mr. French to select a running mate who will make Americans fall in love with the conservative principles of unlimited foreign immigration, hemorrhaging jobs and wealth overseas, and fatuous lip-service to culture war talking points... all over again.

Carly Fiorina, your country needs you.

I think it's a baseball metaphor.

In baseball, the minor league teams tend to be farm teams for one or another major league team, often wouldn't exist without their support, and some people only watch to see who's good enough to move up.

So it's as silly to take minor differences seriously as it is to get worked up over the team records in the minor leagues. Approaching the political kayfabe/kabuki concept from a different angle.

To wash out the bad taste of Kristol's self-parody, here's some deliberate humor from the '90s: Pretty Fly for a Rabbi - "Weird Al" Yankovic (fan vid)

Sorry Nate but Bush's desperation on the subject of amnesty render him borderline treasonous. If you can call a man who waged genocide on your people slightly below average you may want to take a minute and recalibrate.

Anonymous Jack Amok June 01, 2016 12:21 PM

I'm with Nate about Dubya. Quite a few 20th Century presidents would've handled 9/11 worse than he did. He was certainly better than Gore. The Bushes only put two nation's interest ahead of ours. Gore put the entire rest of the world.

The reason people are comparing Trump to Reagan is that Reagan was the last president who put the interests of the United States first. I think his administration is what sparked the Likud wing of the GOP into overdrive to make sure America never elected someone like that again.

Clinton, for all his faults of philosophy and character, WAS a decent enough man,

The Branch Davidians would disagree. Well, those that weren't shot, run over by tanks, burned alive, etc. on national TV in April of 1993, that is.

Murdering children in the name of "saving" them from abuse is evil.

Nate
So humble compared to what? And what's a humble response to 9/11?

Salt
Truman. A 50KT dropped on Mecca.

That would have been moderate. Because it was not done at some future date a much more complete job is likely to be required. Something like burrowing warhead designed to take out command centers, in order to create a void underneath, followed in a few seconds by multiple air bursts to flatten everything into that crater, then a series of ground bursts to seal it up. Thereby ending Islam as it has existed for the last 1400 years.

Doubt the West will have the courage. But the Chinese? The Russians? Heck, even the Indians?

At some point, someone will decide that the fury of a backlash is preferable to the ongoing endless drama, and Mecca will cease to exist. It would be better to find a peaceful solution. But that does not seem possible.

There is no possible peaceful solution with a fatalist death cult. It is only a matter of time until the (((pathological altruists))) in the Air Force let a couple of Mohammedans have control of a nuke, which they will use to rid us of D.C. -- not realizing they're doing us a favor -- because by definition, anything done is Allah's will.

There is one thing you're wrong about, which is that in retaliation, Mecca will only be a secondary target to Dabiq. It is one thing to destroy their past, and even better to destroy their future.

I voted for Bush in 2000 because I thought he understood and believed what he said. I was weary of casting my protest libertarian vote and was hoping he was going to be an exception and someone I voted for would actually be elected. The only other time that ever happened was when I got to cast a vote for Ron Paul for congress when I lived in his district back then.

I also was not as engaged with more independent or alternative information sources as now. Did not discover this blog until about 2003-ish I think, maybe later.

Did not vote for bush in 2004, although realistically whoever has the R by their name was going to receive all of TX electoral votes with close to 60% of the vote. Probably still true this election, maybe even in 2020 if there are still elections and Republicans then.

If you think leaving a smoking crater where the center of the holiest shrine in all islam is located, I have news for you.

@2 Sanders is not getting the Green Party nomination. OTOH, the Working Families Party nomination is all his if he wants it. They have ballot lines in several sates, without petition, including NY. Would split liberal votes, putting NY into play for sure. Sort of like when James Buckley became the 3rd party Conservative senator from NY when the liberal Republican and liberal Democrat split the liberal vote.

Jesus how do you get there? he was f'ing bald face liar who took advantage of interns, and was probably a serial rapist as well.

google "Orgy Island" or "pedophile Epstein" for more on bill.

@84: Compared to islam delenda est, merely nuking Mecca is moderate. Nuking every majority-mohammedan city in the world might have been extreme.

One of the reasons why we need Trump as our next president is that his (successful) election will effective gut the GOP. The GOP has been stuck in terminal error mode for the past 20 years. It needs to be gutted and Trump is the man to do it.

Blogger kurt9 June 01, 2016 2:17 PM

David French as a candidate? You have got to be kidding me! Kristal thinks he actually has a chance against Trump. Whatever Kristol is smoking, it must be goooood stuff!

Have you been watching the Madame "Revisionist history" Secretary show? Where cop killing black sows did it in self defense and Waco was justified?

The idea is not to win. The idea is to act the spoiler. Just like every #NeverTrump 4 months ago gratuitously assured me was Trump's actual motive. And I couldn't possibly support Trump because that sort of thing is morally reprehensible.

"The GOP intelligentsia is behaving like a delusional narcissist, reveling in its (false) superiority over the little people."

It's more cliquish than intelligence-related. The premise for that assertion in the article seems to be predicated on Charles Murray's pandering and false flattery to try to dissuade people, anyway.

My personal preference:

1) take their space rock by main force, pre-announced.
2) place it in the NYC waste treatment plant to visit and pray towards.
3) limit visas

Their jimjim water is gonna taste funny.

I'm an old man with a bit of a drinking problem and a tendency to babble a bit so I ask your indulgence for a bit as I reminisce.

This my 16th ride on this merry-go-round. I've seen 32 of America's finest strive to be the leader of The Free World. And every damned one of them was Old Scratch his own self, the Devil incarnate. going to lead us to perdition. We were headed for the apocalypse, the end of truth, justice, and The American Way. I do believe I'll have another beer.

Back. Every election's a little different, of course. The thing I'm enjoying the most about this one is watching the "Masters of the Universe" on the TV set realize that maybe they're just part owners of a vacant lot over on 3rd St.

I've seen fire and I've seen rain - whoops, wrong platter on the stereo. I've seen a bit of war, a bit of peace, a bit of the good times, a bit of despair and, I guess, my fair share of love and agony. All in all it's turned out pretty good.

I got turned onto a song about a lifetime ago that has kinda stayed with me. The last line is "It's all right Ma. It's life and life only".
