Another Democratic hack

It is looking increasingly apparent that national security will not be in good hands with Hillary:
A computer network used by Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign was hacked as part of a broad cyber attack on Democratic political organizations, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The latest attack, which was disclosed to Reuters on Friday, follows two other hacks on the Democratic National Committee, or DNC, and the party’s fundraising committee for candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives.

A Clinton campaign spokesman said in a statement late on Friday that an analytics data program maintained by the DNC and used by the campaign and a number of other entities "was accessed as part of the DNC hack."

"Our campaign computer system has been under review by outside cyber security experts. To date, they have found no evidence that our internal systems have been compromised," said Clinton campaign spokesman Nick Merrill.

Later, a campaign official said hackers had access to the analytics program's server for approximately five days. The analytics data program is one of many systems the campaign accesses to conduct voter analysis, and does not include social security numbers or credit card numbers, the official said.

The U.S. Department of Justice national security division is investigating whether cyber attacks on Democratic political organizations threatened U.S. security, sources familiar with the matter said on Friday.

The involvement of the Justice Department’s national security division is a sign that the Obama administration has concluded that the hacking was sponsored by a state, people with knowledge of the investigation said.

While it is unclear exactly what material the hackers may have gained access to, the third such attack on sensitive Democratic targets disclosed in the last six weeks has caused alarm in the party and beyond, just over three months before the Nov. 8 U.S. presidential election.
On the one hand, you would think Hillary would have learned her lesson by now. On the other hand, the sort of person who puts server belonging to the Department of State in her closet and insists on using Gmail as Secretary of State probably isn't capable of learning that particular lesson.

Anyhow, the US government is in no position to complain about other people electronically spying on its officials, agents, and agencies, as it is the worst offender on the planet.

You know how there are these descriptors for people, conscious competent, unconscious competent, etc. Hillary is stuck on conscious incompetent, and only hires unconscious incompetent for her staff so she can feel smarter than everyone else. She has never had to learn from or face consequences for her mistakes, so she never has progressed beyond conscious incompetence.

People like her wreck corporations, drive away friends, and destroy lives.

Well Hillary would certainly have the most transparent government in U.S history. Every half competent nation will know precisely what America's President is doing.

Robert L Kocher wrote extensively on the psychopathology of the Clintons.

It's a shame he's no longer with us to give comment on Hillary's campaign. He'd have hated it, but he'd have done it anyway. And he'd have done it well.

"It is looking increasingly apparent that national security will not be in good hands with Hillary"

We are talking about a candidate here that proposed attacking and bombing Syria and the Russian troops stationed there back in December 2015.

Such an air-war might lead to the collapse of the Assad government, the take-over of Damascus by the Islamic State and war between the U.S. and Russia.

All over Syria, which is no strategic value to the U.S. whatsoever. (We are not talking about keeping the Soviets out of Western Europe and Japan during the Cold War here.)

In a sane country that proposal alone would have been sufficient to disqualify her for the office of president.

Globalist response: *Shrug, wouldn't want to start a trade war and slow the filling of American dumps with cheap Chinese crap.

DNC computers hacked.

Globalist response: Traitors! Russian loving Traitors! Someone must go to jail!

Like or dislike Trump, he forced himself on the Republicans. But Hillary is the Democrat party, or what it has become. We can only hope that radical and incompetent crew does not come to power.

@12 But Hillary is the Democrat party, or what it has become.

The other day Eric Metaxas was on Don Lemon's show and pointed out that the Democrats have become the party of selling baby body parts, and they're practically proud of it.

Can the nation go any lower?

Department of Political Justice is now involved because protecting DNC secrets is more important that protecting U.S. secrets.

I don't see how U.S. national security could be comprised by foreign governments hacking the DNC systems. Its just voter registrations and stuff, right? Nothing nefarious that could be used to blackmail people in the DNC, or maybe some stuff the DNC uses to blackmail people.

Hillary will be the American version of Merkel.

A Trump victory will require an enormous amount of effort. The global crony wealth class will pull out every trick in the book to steal the election. And if they cannot steal it, expect an assassination attempt.

Am I the only person who thinks that we remain in a stage of denial regarding the baleful grasp of "high tech?"

We are as savages who are so happy with our sturdy, new houses that we can't be bothered to notice that the guys who gave them to us insisted on transparent walls.

Ayn Rand was right: savages live their lives in public while civilization is a process involving greater personal privacy.

Blogger dc.sunsets July 30, 2016 9:37 AM

Nationalism demands that all borders be defended by force. As long as the world's Can't-Do's (including the vaunted Chinese who STILL are culturally crippled when it comes to innovation) can simply trespass and steal the golden eggs of Western innovators (via cyber or physical invasion), we will continue to labor with parasites riding on our backs.

They at least didn't have credit card numbers stolen. No threat of Clinton Cash wired to Nigeria so what's the problem?

Meanwhile, remember the NSA hacked Merkle's cell phone.

Interesting question: Where are the Republican hacks?

Is their security better? I doubt it. Though perhaps that's in the process of changing.

Are they actually more honest people and have nothing salacious enough to disclose? Yeah, right. (They probably don't have press collusion, because the palace guard won't collude with them, but they've got something dirty.)

Are these attacks, which include the public disclosure elements, targeted specifically at Democrats? If so, and given the previous two questions and their obvious cynical-but-probably-true answers, when will the retaliation occur?

Also, since for these purposes I imagine Trump is still fairly distinct from the Republican organization, how secure is Trump? It's possible he's already been playing the game at a level where he needs top-notch security to avoid industrial espionage.

Anonymous Hezekiah Garrett July 30, 2016 10:44 AM

@22

Based solely on the adversarial nature of their relationship with media overall, I would be shocked to find the Repubs aren't more secure.

Based on their demonstrated stupidity, it wouldn't surprise me at all to find they aren't more secure.

Like you, I don't believe the GOP is any more pure or moral. But they do have more enemies and adversaries, which might make them more careful.

Dems, on the other hand, are just lazy. And stupid. They believe their own propaganda about what good, smart, humane folks they are.

Ask any crackdealer about the wisdom of consuming inventory.

They were the party of men in little girls bathrooms before it was cool.

Am I the only person who thinks that we remain in a stage of denial regarding the baleful grasp of "high tech?"

The denial is in the compatability of affirmative action & "High tech"

Interesting question: Where are the Republican hacks?

They don't have anything worth hacking other than "Heh heh the repair work on that bridge is going to suck",, they don't have any blackmale feeds of people snorting cocaine off underage prostitutes blocking traffic.

I have been on the other side leftists think Republicans do all the dirty tricks they do, even when it would be impossible. After all you can't dispose of crack whore bodies if there are no crack whores in your area. It would also be harder to drive homeless around to multiple voting locations in rural areas. Democrats are like " The media will never report a democrat Senator Menendez for having 14yo hookers" but let a Hispanic republican Rubio drink a bottle of water on stage.

"Meanwhile, remember the NSA hacked Merkle's cell phone.

Now that she has betrayed civilization it looks like a smart move.

The cucks do a very good job or purging the GOP of their dirty laundry on a regular basis.

GOP generally have to be more careful with their worlds or they will be accused of bad think.

Also, its been a while since I have been in regular contact with hackers (20 odd years) but if the community hasn't changed that munch it would be full of pissed off Bernie supporters and anarchist. Both of whom would have a vested interest in seeing Hillary embarrassed. Trump is probably getting a pretty big pass from this community because of his anti-establishment fire bombing.

It's actually pretty impressive that no Trump systems have been hacked. He probably has a better eye for tech talent. Plus the Democrats in particular believe that if something is illegal that no one would dare perpetrate such a crime (except for them, of course), and are shocked, shocked when their supposedly secure systems keep getting cracked. They also probably fall for the common fallacy of security as product rather than process. Checkbox security.

A gmail account would've been more secure!

But since the point was presumably to have an unsecured server to be hacked into by parties who'd paid her for the privilege, she couldn't do that.
