Help a sister out

Old school Dread Ilk Wendy is running for office.

Hey everyone,

It may have been a long time since you've heard from me but I'm reaching out for help.  Some of you may know me as a military supporter and others may know me as a personal friend.

I'm currently running for treasurer of my county.  I'm the most qualified candidate with a double major in math and economics and I'm taking classes to sit for the CPA exam.  I'm close to completing my course work and it adds to my ability to do this job well for my local community.  I have lived in Rock County for over 20 years and like many of you, I had or have a desire to serve the public in some way.  This is how I'd like to do it, by using my knowledge, skills, and abilities to serve Rock County in the Treasurer's office.  It is going to be a very tough race for me because of the demographics of the county and the strength of the field I'm running against (there are 5 of us going into the primaries in August).

I'm running an online campaign fundraiser.  If you know me well, you know how difficult it is for me to ask for money, but even if you just share my contributions link on any websites you may own, that will help. My website is here.

Below is the link for an interview I recently had, so you can listen and judge for yourself on whether you personally think I'd make a good treasurer for my county, and also the link to my campaign contribution website.  There is also more information about myself at the home page of my website.

My recent interview. My contribution page.

If you'd like to personally donate, any little bit will help if you can do so.  Because of campaign finance laws, we cannot accept donations from businesses or anonymously, but we will keep your information private and all monies will go towards the cost of yard signs, banners, and campaign literature to hand out as I travel across the county and reach out to over 150,000 residents.

I know this might be coming out of the blue and even if you're not interested in the campaign piece, I'd love to hear from you and catch up.  I've had a very busy couple of years, as you can tell, and I haven't kept up on a lot of relationships but I'm reaching out to you because I regard you fondly and wish you well.  You're more than welcome to email back and just reminisce about the old days or if you'd like to call and chat, hit me up and I'll send my cell # if you don't have it.  I wish you the best.

Regards,
Wendy

1 decent, honest and actually qualified republican against 4 democrats? Should be a good race Wendy. Good luck and best wishes. It is nice to finally put a face to a name. Sorry you have to put up with Lyin' Ryan though.

Wendy. Don't ruin your life for a Treasurer position. At least run for Congress or the Senate. But if you do run and win, how long will it take for you to become just like the rest of them? Hopefully, it'll never happen, but it will always be a temptation you'll have to resist. You have to be strong enough to be different from your peers. Good luck.

Blogger James Higham July 09, 2016 3:33 PM

Well, we'll have to do what we can.

Some advice. Being best qualified will not get you elected. Making your vision dance in their heads will. Read Chaos Monkeys. Good luck.

Anonymous Wendy July 09, 2016 4:24 PM

Earl, my baby daddy aka former husband is busy driving his 1968 convertible 442 in parades for me.

Susan, I never thought I'd run for office but letting the Dems win all 3 county seats by default, when I can really work hard for my fellow county residents & I'm qualified to do the job spurred me on.

This is not a policy position, despite the partisan race. I have no interest in creating laws to restrict freedoms nor tell anyone how to live their lives, hence the particular office for which I am running.

THANK YOU to those who have donated!

Good luck Wendy. Local politics is a full contact sport. Be ready.

I looked at your web site. You need to make yourself more accessible to your constituents. Give them your social accounts and an email address. Fill Out Forms are a turn off and they send a message you don't want anyone getting too close.

Seriously, what is wrong with some of you morons? Takin' A Look, you're spammed without even a warning.

A Dread Ilk's personal life is precisely NONE of your fucking business. I don't give a damn who you are or how long you have been commenting, if I ever see that sort of intrusive spergatroid bullshit again, you're gone immediately.

No wonder women want nothing to do with you spergs. Just the mere SCENT of a woman online and you lose both your manners and what passes for your minds. Get a fucking grip!

Ya goddam idjits. Grow fucking manners. We are trying to rebuild civilization here, so stop numbing yer nuts to soothe your butthurt. Anatomy 101.

Also: no fucking enemies to the right.

Go Wendy.

I just had these .gov assholes ask why my kids don't get vax. I explained "why do you use human serum?!? Prior to the '80s you used animal serum as a medium!"

They replied "because allergies"

W.T.FUUUUUCK?!?!? And Human Serum is supposed to be "better?!?!"

I've got heat on me right now

Anonymous Takin' a Look July 09, 2016 9:55 PM

@ Vox

I'm a coward, if it were just me, yes, I'd proudly donate full time.

I don't want my kids anything other than mundane;but surviving background noise for a New World. I failed in doing the right thing by them currently. I want them safe and happy and yet I understand nowhere is safe. I wish they could thrive.I just don't see it.

Blogger Markku July 09, 2016 10:07 PM

This is not about donating or not donating. It is completely fine to not donate. This is about the "discussion" that took place, apropos of absolutely nothing in the original post.

We know who she is. Some of us have met her in real life. Vox wouldn't have posted this if he wasn't absolutely 100% certain of her character.

Is it wrong to ask what state Wendy is rounning in ?
I would be glad to send her a check. I do no financial biz over the intertoobs, But if I had a physical address, I'll cut a check tomorrow to her. God bless you Wendy, and much prayers for your success.

If your physical addy is on your contribte page, it's so faded I can't read it. Oddly enough, PA's blog page does the same thing on my computer for some reason. I don't have this problem on other sites.

The check can be mailed to:

Thank you for your support and I am ready to serve you and Rock county as Treasurer!

BTW, good interview, Wendy. Good luck with the campaign.

See, that's the sort of joking that would get me in trouble :-P. But no, rule #1 for talking to women IRL is "don't".

I'm currently running for treasurer of my county. I'm the most qualified candidate with a double major in math and economics and I'm taking classes to sit for the CPA exam

No honey, that means you are credentialed. Being qualified is being able to do the job and having shown prowess that can be transferred to the job. Being credentialed just means you have a piece of paper saying you can do it.

Consider Supreme Court differences between Thomas and Ginsberg.

Blogger Keef July 10, 2016 9:14 AM

And keep in mind that you might be qualified but you've yet to demonstrate such. What is your policy agenda for the position? What challenges are you anticipating in the position? What have you done in the past that would lead voters to believe you can execute on your policy agenda?

Blogger Josh July 10, 2016 10:27 AM

Shut up Keef

Anonymous Wendy July 10, 2016 11:32 AM

@Keef,

"No honey, that means you are credentialed. Being qualified is being able to do the job and having shown prowess that can be transferred to the job."

My first job out of college was regulatory compliance (as was quoted from the newspaper previously but I don't know if the comment is still up, looks like some people got themselves in hot water with Vox). The job duties are fully described and enforced by the state statutes. The next 2 jobs were number crunching with emphasis on accuracy. I have completed 5 of the 10 required classes I need to sit for the CPA exam (registered for 1 in the fall, might pick up another), and despite me being a woman and obviously at a disadvantage in being able to think and logic (according to some here), I am pretty damn flexible in thinking, analysis, and learning. Vox can verify that when he sent me instructions on how to create Kindle friendly files, I figured out how to use the software to shortcut chapter numbering and whatnot. I dig and research and work my ass off.

If that's not good enough to be treasurer, I suspect the restaurant manager, engineer, professional politician (and EXTREME progressive), and counter clerk who I am running against will not succeed either, so I guess the office could sit open....

As for policy agenda, there is none. This is not a policy position. This is purely collecting property taxes, managing investments, disbursing the funds that the county board directs to disburse, accurate book keeping, and when necessary, appearance in court on behalf of the county for any property tax delinquencies. So "executing" that particular agenda is not so difficult. It's doing the damn job. I'm down with that.

Blogger Matthew July 10, 2016 12:14 PM

When the man who has said the 19th amendment should be repealed gives this kind of platform to a woman, y'all might want to consider why.

Anonymous Wendy July 10, 2016 1:03 PM

Matthew, I agree with him on repealing the 19th. I'd probably win because men would at least listen to me when I say this elected position should be more like a job interview instead of a partisan race and would look at the whole field collectively, instead of the D or R behind a name. Some woman would not sign my nomination papers because she said she was a hardcore Dem. When I pointed out the extreme progressive professional candidate was running against me, she said she hated him. When I pointed out that if he won the Dem primary he'd be running against ME, she said she'd vote for me. She did not follow the logical conclusion where if I don't get on the ballot by not having enough signatures on my nomination papers, he would win the seat by default.

This whole running for office tries my patience, but I want to do this job. We'll see how it goes. ;-)

Blogger The Kurgan July 10, 2016 1:49 PM

Keef,
Go crawl back under a rock. WTF have you ever done? Morons are out in force today.

Blogger Matthew July 10, 2016 1:54 PM

It is not hard to imagine a society where women do not vote, but there are offices that only women will want. I think it obvious that men would vote for women to handle certain kinds of jobs.

Blogger Matthew July 10, 2016 1:56 PM

Wendy wrote:this elected position should be more like a job interview instead of a partisan race and would look at the whole field collectively, instead of the D or R behind a name

This is true for almost all non-leadership offices. I think it should be forbidden to have party affiliations on any ballot. And also forbidden to use cribsheets in the ballot booth.

Anonymous Wendy July 10, 2016 4:50 PM

Matthew, I agree on points in #49 and #50. The 3 county positions open are clerk, register of deeds, and treasurer. They are defined by statute and have specific record keeping and bookkeeping duties. I think women do well in those roles, with strictly defined lanes within which to work. For policy making positions, I'm not a fan of women. When I first declared my candidacy, I was advised (by party women) on font on my signs and "logo." I was nonplussed. I bucked their advice and just went with a straight forward red, white, and blue background with normal font, not "softening" my first name with cursive to appear more feminine. These R advisors used Tammy Baldwin's logo as an example. If any woman was more progressive, I don't know who it would be, and using her campaigning style as one to emulate was not at the top of my personal campaigning agenda.

Politics are weird.
