Last day for Hugo voting

Hugo Voting closes Sunday July 31 at 11:59 PM PDT

You will need your membership number and PIN.

And if you're a Rabid Puppy in need of a refresher on how I voted, you can have a look here.

Correct. You need a MidAmeriCon II membership to vote.

OT:  Is there anything you can do about the covers for "Equality" and "4GW" overlapping and covering up the text space?  Can these images be trimmed or resized?  "Equality" in particular would never miss those large bars of black on either side.

I don't know what was in my coffee. It made me hallucinate that I was ghost-writing your blog.

Don't you dare confuse your poor readers that way. They won't know who to hate.

What are you talking about?

Probably reading VP in some bizarre, underfunctioning browser ...

Firefox, so probably.

I've downloaded Brave but my huge mass of bookmarks and reliance on TagSieve means I probably won't be able to shift all that much work to it for a while.

Ballot submitted, thanks for the suggestions.

I would have ordered Novel a little differently and put Seveneves first. Uprooted wasn't bad and had a slightly more satisfying ending, but not really Hugo material. (Not that any of the others beyond Seveneves was either.) But it would be nice to see a win for Del Rey, as this is just the kind of fantasy Lester would have published, though I have no doubt his editorial attention would have made it a stronger book.

Ancillary Tea Sets in Space was the same old crap: flat writing; dull characters, with a couple of exceptions; not much plot to speak of; and and conclusion that just sort of...ends. Poor plotting and execution.

I didn't get a chance to read the Butcher, the formatting of the Hugo packet sample was for shit (as were several of the others).

But I was surprised by Fifth Season. I was expecting an SJW shitshow, but aside from some throw-away nods to PC culture, I thought the writing and story far superior to the Leckie and was pretty engaging. Might even check out further installments if I can find them on LibGen.

Concerning the Retro Hugo Awards: vote for “Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius” by Jorge Luis Borges .

Its a great story, plus Borges had mainstream conservative politics. And it was his sensible politics that prevented him from getting a Nobel Prize. The Nobel Prize committee prefers to give their prize to silly magical realist writers (Gabriel Garcia Marquez) who hob nob with left wing dictators.

Thanks for the reminder. Voted last week. My votes were remarkably similar to your own.

No, the weird thing about this year's Hugos is that, apart from the Castalia House stuff, the My Little Pony episode is the only work I actually looked at.

The online voting system was far better/easier to use this year.

I ponied up.

Speaking of which, I purchased an annual Brainstorm membership in mid-July last year but have not received a renewal reminder. Will renew in the next couple days so as to hopefully not miss out on anything.
