Star Citizen: total meltdown

The crisis Derek Smart predicted is rapidly approaching. They're now talking 2019 for the game, but it appears RSI will not last that long.

Sounds just like the startup-straight-to-VC-money game, too. I've seen many a "cool city startup" raise an odd pile of VC cash well before they had a product or dollar #1, and it was just a group of managers skimming a nice salary for themselves as long as possible before returning to work somewhere with the MBA equivalent of working on your uncle's squid boat for blue collar experience.

Star Citizen Forever is going to make your patience its bitch.

Blogger residentMoron July 26, 2016 12:08 PM

That's going to be a high bar for the fans to get over.

Be interesting watching the calisthenics they will attempt.

Can't they just hire Castalia House cover artists to draw a ton of premium ships? Do "uncommons" for $10,000, "rares" for $100,000, "limited custom" for $1,000,000 and "exclusive" for $10M.

And THAT is the game. You could even use a catchy tagline. How about "Gotta catch 'em all?"

And I thought the 2016 DNC convention was a dumpster fire. Well, it IS, but this is also a dumpster fire, simply different proportions.

It's like Infinium Labs and their Phantom console, for crying out loud. Faceless's remarks on the VC money game are quite apt; this is how the dotcom boom and bust rolled, if I recall correctly.

If it crashes and burns, I plan to buy Derek Smart a drink of his choice, and give him an apology.

If even a small fraction respond as you will, Toastrider, Derek's reward for his prognostication skills will be death-by-cirrhosis.

32 players without things breaking down. If true, Jesus. That's XBox Live level. Except XBox live does that in multiple thousands of instances at once for Minecraft, Halo PvP matches, etc.

If anyone bought gift copies of the game for relatives, I'd like to share that my brothers and I are in the process of getting a full refund for all three copies. The trick was we didn't accept the terms of service, and the two of us who received gift copies sent our eldest brother scans of signed letters certifying that we wanted a refund and hand't accepted the new terms of service.

I'm probably late to the refund game, but if it helps anyone not get screwed by this company's death spiral, it's worth posting up.

Cheers all.

Gotta fund us all?

so... I start this game company... and I'm gonna make a monster hunter version of pokemon go see... and instead collecting pokemon... we kill monsters in teams.

Then I put it on a crowdfunding site and make up all kinds of crazy crap that I the game will do.

then... I take tons of money... and me and vox build a casino

I think that Turnip is about squeezed out now that there is a Casino every 5 miles in most parts of the country.

"I think that Turnip is about squeezed out now that there is a Casino every 5 miles in most parts of the country. "

you obviously haven't traveled to most parts of the country.

Actually Monster Hunter:Go - killing monsters in teams using the ingress/PKgo backend would be pretty cool

I got the werewolves in the shadow of The Old Quinn mine covered. I am literally here and there's not a single werewolf left.

It wasn't a literal statement but there is evidence that the country is over saturated with Casinos. There is a reason that many are either going bankrupt or being bought up by the big guys in that industry.

But it'll have MPAI smartphone controls and gameplay.

I like the Red Privilege angle. I'm in.

It would be cool.

if I had 250k to spend on 5 developers to make it... I would have already started the company.

Blogger The Kurgan July 26, 2016 2:08 PM

Nate,
You'll need a white man to run it. You know the redskin would just drink all the tequila, and you're a redneck so you'd let him, and besides, rednecks can't do math.
So, I'll do it for ya.

Blogger Student in Blue July 26, 2016 2:09 PM

Wait, Larry Correia Monster Hunter, or Capcom Monster Hunter?

Blogger Nate July 26, 2016 2:09 PM

"Tap screen to win. Yay. "

so much worse than "push X to win."

neither.

My son-in-law is in the CG, stationed in Atlantic City. One of the 5 mega-casinos there is open for business.

Anonymous BGKB July 26, 2016 2:52 PM

At this rate we will have Civil War II & real private space exploration afterward before the game gets out.

The indians in alabama offered to pay off the states debt completely in return for table gaming.

Gambling ain't dead.

Blogger Were-Puppy July 26, 2016 4:38 PM

Is there a single casino somewhere in Alabama?

Most in GA roll up to Cherokee or Biloxi for a Casino.

If you've ever driven south-to-north in Alabama, there are dot-Indian casinos.

All the coastal Alabamians travel to Mississippi to gamble.
