Biology is a social construct

Pity these poor genetic scientists. Someone needs to inform them that race and ethnicity do not exist, and that gender is a social construct. Obviously there is no way that this so-called test can possibly work; they might as well claim to test for unicorn and leprechaun hair.
The crime-busting tools of science fiction are becoming a reality. A new forensic test can detect the ethnicity and gender of someone using nothing but a single hair, and in less than two minutes no less, according to a new study.

The study, published in the Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry, details how a new tool designed by scientists has shown a 100 percent success rate in identifying gender and ethnicity using a strand of hair.

This test reportedly trumps DNA testing currently used by law enforcement - which traditionally relies on blood to determine factors like gender and ethnicity. According to a Queen's University press release, the new test and tool also works in a fraction of the time of standard blood testing, getting highly accurate results in about 85 seconds.

According to the study, the test takes an unusual approach to DNA testing, in which a single hair is ground up and then burnt. The foul smelling vapor consequently produced is then analyzed to produce a DNA analysis that reportedly has had a 100 percent success rate.

"Our analysis process is very robust and can be used universally," co-author Lily Huang said in a recent statement. According to Huang, the incredibly fast test can distinguish between East Asians, Caucasians and South Asians, to name a few ethnicities, and is even accurate when analyzing hair that has been dyed.
Advances in genetic science terrifies the Left and the equalitarian "Right" alike. This response was particularly amusing:

it was a graduate student's experiment that tested 13 hairs.  Groundbreaking! #altreich or #altright?
Equalitarians make Flat Earthers and haruspices look scientifically advanced by comparison.

Blogger The Other Robot August 27, 2016 10:44 AM

I will have to check the paper, but without the hair follicle, there is no DNA to actually analyze.

However, it could well be that mixed in with the keratin are molecules that can distinguish between males and females and different races.

Anonymous wolfsktaag August 27, 2016 10:47 AM

back several years ago when i bothered to argue with SJWs on reddit, i sometimes cited this study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1196372/

the paper is over 10 years old, and during the research they successfully identified the race of individuals, from DNA alone, in over 99% of the 3,600 cases. that twatter dude crying about 13 hairs can suck on this study for a while

Blogger The Other Robot August 27, 2016 10:51 AM

Yup. Not using DNA.

One group of elements, Li, Mo, S, Sr, Cr, K, Ni, Zn and Pb correctly identified all 13 samples for general ethnicity with LDA, whereas this was not possible with PCA. On the other hand, both PCA and LDA correctly assigned all samples for gender using Mg, S, Sr and Zn.

However, it is another piece of support for the concept of sex differences and races and race differences.

Folks,

This is looking at the elemental composition of the hair and the correlations with sex and ethnicity (no DNA involved). I've measured estradiol and testosterone in hair before (not using ICP, hair is just another type of matrix like blood, saliva, etc).

Their theory seems the most suspect to me: "Size of the sweat glands" - is it suggesting an outward/in (air->body) model or inside-out (food->skin) model

I'd be curious as to the "ruggedness" of the method on people from more polluted areas (heavy-metal contaminants) or from Flint, Michigan or people on chelators/phytates.

I'd also be curious in seeing if there were any differences between folks with a neurodegenerative conditions and normal age-matched controls .

This wasn't the discussion I had expected when I clicked on this. We are getting better, faster and more efficient at DNA studies. That isn't the problem with the field of biology these days. The problem with the field of biology is that it is getting sucked into transgenderism and other social justice causes, which is tampering with honest empirical based research. Sure some pharmaceutical companies are going to rake cash in. But most consumers are going to be gouged on more junk science. That is going to be the end of Westernized medicine as we know it.

No need to waste police resources on catch-and-release.

The abstract is here with a diagram of the test apparatus.

The test set of 13 data points is dinky. Even 20 would be an improvement. Inclusion of someone's hair from another city is interesting but not significant. This needs replication on a larger scale, preferably over 1,000 individuals in a different country.

But. It's really interesting that sex can be differentiated via four elements and "ethnicity" with nine elements. That suggests some metabolic difference at work.

Who would have ever guessed that social constructs could affect low level metabolism this way? Just another example of the power of the chalk that writes on the blank slate, eh?

That's the problem with all fields of science. There is vision correction surgery, thermal keratoplasty is better than lasik for pilots & those that might be in violent conflicts. Thermal keratoplasty uses the laser to modify the corneal shape without slicing through the cornea like LASIK. The sliced flap can be dislodged rendering the vision in the eye completely blurred. Thermal keratoplasty is more uncomfortable than LASIK but has equally good results and less risk.

This is like asking if you would trade IQ for sickle cell's protection from malaria, before whitey brought quinine to Africa.

It is negro female projection. They've collectively built up this myth that every white girl in American secretly wants to have a nappy mess on top of their heads, so they can feel better about themselves. Growing up in an area that was approximately 1/3 negro in population I never remember seeing any white girls trying to touch black hair, but the black girls were constantly asking the white girls with long hair if they could braid it, brush it, twist it, etc., etc.
I have witnessed Asian women (mostly Chinese) tourists in the States who will try to touch black women's hair, but afterwards they always have a look of bewilderment/disgust and will repeatedly wash their hands.

For better or worse, VP is one of the major outposts of the Alt-Right.  It's also the only one I have time to follow.

One of the reasons The Narrative is failing is that it is so obviously contrary to fact.  It doesn't help the Alt-Right if it is manipulated into pushing things which are also contrary to fact; I want to see it take down the Left, which has been oppressing me for 5 decades.  It is in my interest to at least get Alt-Right memists to de-emphasize certain things regardless of how some of the most fervent supporters feel about them.  The religious elements are, Vox to the contrary, peripheral to nationalism and racial survival.  Reminding people of the reasons that so many religious ideas ("liberal creationism" is rightly derided, and fundie creationism is risible for the same reasons) have fallen from favor—that they are demonstrably false to fact—will leave a stronger Alt-Right core and improve its odds of success.

I'm too old to wait for another cycle of this to play out while I can still contribute.  It's succeed or die, and I intend to succeed.
