@1 Brian S

Agreed. I found Molyneux's content, especially his parenting message, to be life-changing. That said, his debating technique and anti-religious bent limited his appeal to me and, I suspect, to others.

He's probably lost some of his naval-gazing atheist/libertarian followers, but I'd wager he's replaced them with a more worthwhile crowd. I'm curious what we'll see from him post-election.

I used to listen to molyneaux a lot but he doesn't always call his callers out on their bs, especially if they are minorities.

Vox your headphones are more crooked than Hillary!

Blogger John Wright August 01, 2016 4:46 PM

One small error of fact: At about 46, Vox refers to Epictetus as a hedonist.

He means Epicurus, who did indeed advocate the pursuit of pleasure but only in a moderate way, and holding friendship, conversation, and study as the pleasures to be sought.

Epictetus was a stoic and spoke of pleasure only as something to be placed under the control of the reason.

Anonymous 5343 August 01, 2016 4:47 PM

And I think the James stuff is actually Matthew.

Blogger Nick S August 01, 2016 5:05 PM

Whoops. Yes, that's correct. Something about that struck me as wrong, but it was nearly 3 AM and I couldn't be bothered to look it up.

And I think the James stuff is actually Matthew.

Yeah, it's Matthew 18:15.

Blogger Unknown August 01, 2016 5:19 PM

VD,

Your comment about christian tropes in media, do you think it is because those who write those scenes have no first hand knowledge of Christianity? Or is it deliberate?
I wonder if any writers who have put these tropes in have been challenged on them.

Anonymous daddynichol August 01, 2016 5:19 PM

The white female/black male relationship very seldom results in marriage and more likely to be white female raising mixed race kids while living with her mother since the daddy is long gone banging another fat white chick. There's also several short term boyfriends during that period.

The Great Society continues its march right over the cliff. Reset coming soon!

Just finished - and I note the mention of publishing Loki's Child.

I really enjoyed that book, and can only guess that is written by someone who has been involved in the depths of the music industry. There are too many references to things that happen in a recording studio that are ROFLMAO for it to be otherwise.

Some of them do "know" christianity - as something they remember vaguely from childhood Sunday school, that they never looked deeper into the "why" or that there was any depth to western culture.

Much like many never really learned the deeper reasons "why" of the small towns they ran away from as "adults", but just look at them, and christianity, as caricatures.

Blogger tz August 01, 2016 6:56 PM

Stefan should be a traditional Catholic within 5 years. Sooner the more he pushes Aristotle and has to take Aquinas seriously instead of summaries and caricatures. Or his head will explode.

(Lew Rockwell and Tom Woods are anarcholibertarian Latin-Mass Catholics, there was a Latin Mass Magazine which I know Woods was associated with and I think Rockwell too; Then there's Edward Feser, and I think our Mr. Wright followed a similar path).

A good/bad sign is in his "Truth about Aristotle" he lost it in having to say "No! Aristotle was really an Atheist! He really didn't believe in God, he only said that to avoid persecution". Er, ONE God instead of the pantheon, so you don't need dozens of temples, that doesn't demand worship or prayer and doesn't care about petitioning, so no priests anyway which has all the wrath without actually saying atheist? Worst of all possible worlds. Tick, tick. tick...

On my stack is Surprised by Joy by Lewis, that might be another model since I know he has read his major works (Screwtape, but I'd love his take on Abolition of Man).

I think the Anarcholibertarianism might be a problem or have to resolve itself because men and women often differ more profoundly than either of different races. He has a daughter, but is she going for a career or kids? The psychological differences as well as the physiological differences between the sexes tend to create roles that makes the isolated individual theory of the NAP have problems, at least in marriage and family.

Saw the video:
Vox trust me there are no where near as many charming gays as seen on TV. Bitter Queens who hate STR8 White Church Going Christian Men outnumber us.

Madame Secretary should be called Madame Revisionist History. They rewrote WACO, Bundy, emale scandal and others.

You should have said about how STR8 White Church Going Christian Men are so portrayed in the (((narrative))) that a HATE HOAX in San Fran was actually believable that a group of 20 STR8 white guys gay bashed Jeffrey Lafayette for wearing white after labor day, when it was actually his boyfriend beating him up for cheating. The idea that 20 STR8 guys exist in San Fran is hard to believe but that they would beat someone up over wearing white after labor day is ludicrous.

In real life have you ever meet a black as smart as seen on TV or a White man as leader as stupid as see on TV?

Sex & the City is not NYC Gay Men with TITS, there was no drug use in the show.

Vox Day called G.RapeRapreM little? Maybe get your vision checked. You would think Game of Thrones would be all hooker sex, oh wait Littlefingers place.

Why wouldn't the Israeli Security guard analog in your story just shoot the moslem suicide bomber in the head? The inverse square law would have given him a chance to survive. Triple the distance 1/9 the effect. Teaching the best way to deal with problems helps prepare heroes in case they encounter such a problem.

Looking right is similar to tilting the head right, in that it indicates use of the left prefrontal cortex to make a judgment, which corresponds to T in MBTI. (/weird unfounded aeoli theory)

I thought tilting head left or right had something to do with exposing the jugular and was seen as threatening. Bill O'Reilly's body language expert woman made comments on this when current occupant visited the ladies of The View and tilted his head in a threatening manner (acc to her) while saying "you know we didn't realize it at the time but it turned out the YouTube fella had Freedom of Speech"

1. This was meant to be more of a throwaway observation than a conversation thread.

2. You can tilt your head for different reasons. Sometimes people also tilt their heads to see around obstacles.

3. Experts are very trustworthy in some ways and very untrustworthy in others. It's unclear to me which box this anecdote falls into.

No choice at all, I turned off coast to coast radio discussing the Merlin project to complete listening to our host and Stefan, great ally.

A consistent theme with Disturbed is how we are told to fear, obey, consume, shop, warp into zombies, fear, obey, shop and that too is a felled narrative but a required message to convey.

The societal decline is horrendous and last month on espn at the gym I noted some kind of insurance company commercial with 2 adverts; one featured a very tall, strong woman carrying about a small man, the next day or so the same company advert'd some kind of eerie, leery MRC.

One of the things or the points I suggest about my family which I cannot break the rules here but adhere to them, rules for another man's space and Vox's playground. Rules are set for cilivity and professionalism along with a host of other reasons, we've read play out here.

My coping skills have dramatically improved when I began reading more Mike Cern, listening to SM and others. The painful aspect of listening to SM at times is that before mom died she found him on youtube and would send me links, that is good just a bit bristling at times.

What was never good was how the Vukelic Family Elders tried to push us kids, genxers into the wrong things. That is where I departed from them or divorced myself from a culture where it was untenable to go along with their nullsense pushing us kids into bad stuff til this very month they are choosing to hurt me and I am ignoring them. Thank you.

Stephen wrote:What was the thing about predicting hair colors?

Low-rank men writing fiction have oddly specific buckets that they put women in. Let's see if I can find it again... Oops, wrong site, it was on Alpha Game... Aha!

The Gamma Protagonist, Part III: The Corrupted Villain is blonde & athletic or dark & voluptuous, and the Strong Independent Love Interest has red hair. I would add that The Damsel has brown hair, or more specifically auburn; she's a spiced-up version of The Girl Next Door. But I agree with the rest.

(Here are links to Part I and Part II if you're curious. It's all very amusing, but fair warning: like the TV Tropes Wiki, it makes bad writing even more predictable.)

Anonymous SciVo August 02, 2016 5:17 AM

On second thought, The Damsel probably only has auburn hair when she's also The Love Interest.

Anonymous LastRedoubt August 02, 2016 11:18 PM

Finished the interview.

Well done guys.

On the "escapism" front - anyone remember the stories re: the movie Avatar about how people found it so beautiful they wanted to go there, didn't want it to end?

And Rothfuss? Even before I knew "Gamma Male" he was a self-absorbed, entitled, bitter twat that the author sadistically persecuted so he could show off how much better the character was at everything.
