The Narrative shifts

Let us all share a moment of silence for the previous "the Alt-Right is a small group of irrelevant teenagers in their parent's basements" Narrative. Hillary Clinton is running as the American Angela Merkel.
Hillary Clinton will deliver a speech Thursday linking Donald Trump to the "extremism" of the "alt-right" movement. Clinton's campaign announced Tuesday morning that her Reno, Nev., speech would focus on Trump and his aides' "embrace of the disturbing 'alt-right' political philosophy."

"This 'alt-right' brand is embracing extremism and presenting a divisive and dystopian view of America which should concern all Americans, regardless of party," her campaign said.

The alternative right, or so-called alt-right, movement has generally been comprised as those opposed to multiculturalism and immigration, according to The Washington Post, and has gained mainstream attention during this year's presidential campaign as Trump seeks to maximize support among white voters.
Notice how, in nine months, the Alt-Right has scared the Democrats more than the entire conservative movement has since Ronald Reagan left office. This is for several reasons:

  1. The Alt-Right is already a potent force embedded in rising political parties in Europe.
  2. Multiculturalism and immigration are winning issues for the first party to embrace white American identity politics. Throw in gun rights, tax cuts, debt write-offs, and a credible anti-war stance, and you've suddenly got a party that is playing for keeps on the national stage.
  3. The Alt-Right does not consist of professional politicians more interested in their Washington careers than their nations.
  4. The Alt-Right is not a Potemkin opposition, it is a genuine one.

This is key. The left hasn't had genuine opposition in a very long time.

That the Alt-Right is already nascent, rising and coalescing in European politics means that we are smashing the calcified intelligentsia and seizing initiative across Western civilization.

Therefore, their terror is rational.

For the first time, they are terrified...

...and for the first time, they are afraid.

Superb.

"The alternative right, or so-called alt-right, movement has generally been comprised as those opposed to multiculturalism and immigration, according to The Washington Post"

Well, in that case somebody should bother to tell the Washington Post that milions and millions of people in Western Europe belong to the Alt-Right and the vast majority of people in Eastern Europe.

What still pains me is that otherwise solid and clear thinking right wingers still are wary of the alt right. Accusations of racism still hold a large amount of sway on the average rightist and most are very afraid of anything resembling pro white policies for the same reason. With millenials , that fear will subside on the right because we know that word has lost all meaning, but the problem is most millennials arent right and they've drank the multicultural koolaid. I don't think I've seen a less rebellious or suspicious of authority generation. It baffles the mind.

This 'alt-right' brand is embracing extremism and presenting a divisive and dystopian view of America which should concern all Americans

The left loves to polish off the word dystopian when it is convenient for them. The alt-right is divisive and dystopian? What utopian society is the left promoting?

1. 1 in 5 women are raped on college campuses every year (which, if true meant that 6,000 gals were raped at OSU alone last year).
2. Homophobia is worse than it's ever been, even under Hitler's regime
3. Women get paid only a pittance for the same work when compared to men
4. If we don't give Algore all our disposable income the polar ice caps will melt, and the polar bears will cry
5. Gender is whatever TF you want it to be, and can be changed at an instance depending on the individuals feelings (and, we're born that way simultaneously)
6. All people are equal...except for cis, white males who by their very existence are destroying any chance of progress
7. Black lives matter...and FU if you try and insert any other in there

Dystopian indeed.

Right now they are not really afraid. Killary and co simply view the alt-right as another tea party. We'll know when they are really afraid when they shut up and start trying to make deals or co-opt us, i.e. start treating us like they treat Islam.

This is simply more rabbiting on killary and co's part, just value signaling to their herd. The scale of this action is the real new thing, as it will bring far more people into the alt-right as they see the true agenda being signaled.

The Left, which has some history with these things, sees the Alt-Right as a revolutionary movement. They know how revolutions deal with their enemies.

The Left is presented with a catch-22, in which Trump's victory or defeat only strengthens the Alt-Right.

I would argue that the Left, if they were wise, should actually desire a Trump victory in the hope that political legitimacy cools the revolutionary fire. Allowing time for the establishment to 'Tea Party', the Alt-Right.

Anonymous Evan McMullin August 23, 2016 12:42 PM

So it seems Donald Drumpf shall be hoist aloft on his alt-right petard. Aloft, I say!

Every day I tour this great nation, I meet people who are hungry. Hungry for a reasonable, unifying voice. Hungry for principled conservatism. Hungry for McMullin!

There are moments in campaigns when you realise something big is happening. Something organic and unforced and absolutely real. Something not, in any way, a lie. One of those moments happened to me recently.

I was in our nation's capital, staring unblinkingly at the Jefferson Memorial in the way all normal and non-autistic people do, and some young African-Americans recognized me!

"Fo-shizzle my homies! It's Evan McMullin!", said their leader, who turned out to be a BYU freshman named Dah'Shavius. He's studying basketball and reading and is deeply concerned that Donald Trump's reckless protectionism might prove deleterious to vital American interests such as Goldman Sachs.

What ensued was the most unexpectedly delightful conversation.

"We gotta get back to that strict constitutional originalism, ya feel me Evan?"

I nodded to indicate that I did, in fact, feel Dah'Shavius.

Feh'Breeze interjected: "And that Donald Trump has been divorced three times! How am I supposed to teach my children family values if our own President is a serial monogamist with a long track record of questionable comments about women? Aiight?"

Again, I nodded respectfully.

"Mr McMullin, that's why we need you as President. Because it's never too late to do the right thing!"

I was almost moved to tears, but my campaign manager Rick moved away, so the waft of urea that had been stinging my eyes mercifully abated.

Those very few times I've mentioned I politically identify as alt-right to people, they've been utterly clueless. Never even heard the term. Then, again, many of the right liberals/TruCons/cucks who comment en masse at Steve Sailer and Breitbart consider themselves alt-right, although they'd wet their pants and run away screaming for mommy if they actually visited TRS or Radix or any other genuinely alt-right site. In this case, any publicity is good publicity. Even if only a few start asking questions or visit soft gateway sites, it's a first step towards recognizing there's an entirely different reality and mindset out there.

Semi OT: Had to go for jury duty yesterday. While my county is increasingly non-White, I'd guess 85% of the potential jurors were White, and about 65% of those were male. After the standard propaganda film of a Negress judge solemnly intoning how much "better" things are now that womyn and colored people can serve on juries, and being warned about all the misconceptions and "myths" out there and being assured that people really are randomly chosen by computer, they started calling names. Amazing how that "random" computer managed to choose the woman with the hijab and two men named Mohammed and various other ethnics, along with a certain share of White Americans of one sort or another. After a few hours of this, during which one nattily dressed female attorney (our county something or other) shared how busy her morning had been, taking her twins to kindergarten (all together now, "awww...."), the rest of us were allowed to leave. Let me just share how my experience with our legal system, dating back to the Magna Carta, really left me feeling . . . far more alienated and alt-right than ever. Burn it all down.

Totally OT: Strangely enough, my 24 year old really likes to share his music with me and his father. He listens primarily to European rock of various sorts. I like some of the Irish stuff, but only snippets of his "opera metal" and Finnish groups. He recently purchased the newest album by Dutch group "Volbeat" and played it for me and I'm in love. So if you're ever driving next to me and my car is shaking from the bass, that's what I'm listening to. Listening to White music really pushes me at the gym, too.

Call it "The Alt-Right Party" and watch it get trolled out of public life faster than Leslie Jones. They would have to call it something like the National With Jews You Lose Coalition or the Taylor Swift School for Helicopter Pilots to have any street cred.

To the fence-sitters and others currently clueless:

This is war, and if you keep refusing to recognize it, you're going to be a casualty. It's ok to hate the enemy. It's ok to fight the enemy. It's ok to defeat the enemy by any means necessary, exactly as we did in WWII. It's not ok to lose, because then you will be killed and your family put in chains. Now do you really give a rat's ass what the enemy calls you?

@18-The term "dystopian" is thrown around alot, and in this context is basically meaningless. They mean to say pessimistic or cynical, or something. The alt-right is not dystopian, but it is--any rightist movement must be--anti-utopian. The opposition isn't necessarily utopian, but their ideas would require utopia to work, so they kinda are by default.

Anonymous Crude August 23, 2016 2:18 PM

I don't believe the alt-right has any real hold on Trump. But they gotta be afraid of something.

Their worry, just like the NeverTrumper's worry, isn't about pure political positioning. The left is narrative obsessed. If a Trump win can be seen in any way as an alt-right win, they panic. Hell, just Trump's nomination - insofar as it was seen as that - worries them. They are not people who play the "we have disagreements and I think they're wrong but I think they're good people" game with their enemies.

Blogger Anchorman August 23, 2016 2:20 PM

Now at Breitbart... 'Singapore to Require Registration of Islamic Teachers'

Singapore did this exactly the right way: First it passed a law that was voluntary. Then it waited for and found the excuse to make it mandatory. Next it can effectively neuter muhammedist teachers by folding them into the rest of the school system and enforcing standards.

We should all take note... There are myriad ways to take back the US, and Singapore has just demonstrated one of them.

When I say the alt-right has no real hold on Trump I mean it's not as if a bunch of alt-right intellectuals would staff his administration. Nor would they invade the universities or NGOs. They wouldn't even take control of the Republican Party. Conservative, Inc. would suffer, and a lot of "cuck"-ish intellectuals would lose their paychecks, as the Overton Window shifts.

But my guess is Trump would employ an awful lot of the same neocons, regular-cons, compassionate conservatives, evangelicals, churchians, quasi-libertarians, and so forth that have plagued previous Republican administrations.

That's well underway, with cuck assistance. The U.S. is in the process of handing off Internet control to the UN, which protects a certain religion against certain speech, to give one example. Another is the weaponized IRS, which the communists used to target the "racist" Tea Party to the secret applause of cucks.

But...good luck with it. Even the nascent 'Net of the late Eighties was enough to help take down the Soviet Union and its East Bloc satellites. Admittedly, as the Chinese have shown, the communists have gotten better at this sort of thing but so have those who go around them.

Cocktail parties? I think the thing they usually threaten to disinvite people from is life.

But the thing about a leaderless movement like the Alt Right is that it's a hydra. Kill one, the other heads just get that much more pissed off, and two more heads grow in where the one head was cut off.

Ultimately, this is true. The irony, though, is the intellectual political firepower is on the Alt-Right. The American Left has gone full totalitarian, which makes it intellectually lazy and devoid of original and erudite thought. The cuckservatives are just about as stale, singing from the same hymnal since 1988. In fact, the communists and cucks are in full panic because they have no one who either can fight or think. They ultimately are doomed on the present trajectory, because while the Millenials are ignorant and poorly educated, at a minimum the white and East Asian ones have high enough IQs to learn.

It has to do with erudition and temperament, not with credentials or opinions. Of course, the left discredit most that do not think like them as anti intellectual when it suits their purpose, and will do so on the basis of the opinion of the person that opposes them. It doesn't matter to the left just how "intellectual" a person is, because they very often reduce said intellectualism to ulterior motives which cannot then be disputed. "Sycophant of the bourgeoisie" has been the argumentative template of the left for quite some time.

But I think that if you want a movement to not be class warfare by another name, you need all kinds of people. You can already see the left re-framing everything concerning resentment against multiculturalism as being about education level and wealth disparity. That's a classic Chomsky move. "People wouldn't suffer from bad think if we had the right kind of welfare state and took care of the economic elites."

Reducing opposition to diversity as being a mere consequence of the rise of "the 1%" negates the alt-right, and can only be done if most of the opposition is actually poor, is actually anti intellectual, is actually "left behind" by globalization. So, once again, this isn't about purging. It's about wanting even more.

As a legal philosophy, yes.

What Alfred did was collect the various interpretations of that philosophy under one "umbrella," setting the basis for an English national legal system.

The Saxons also came from Jutland, the southern provinces of Schleswig and Holstein (as well as the coast of Old Saxony). When Jutland too united under one king and one law they became Danes.

The alt right embraces racialism, traditionalism, masculine virtues, and so on. I will leave it to you as an exercise to determine which great thinkers in history are, at least partially, in line with the alt right or at least more in line with the alt right than any other modern intellectual movement?

Blogger Cataline Sergius August 23, 2016 7:05 PM

Buckley lost it with Gore Vidal because Vidal was even smoother. And charmier.

Buckley lost all three debates because he was fucking lazy.

Vidal hired a researcher and actually practiced mock questions with a trainer.

It's emblematic of the failure of American Conservatism.

The reason Buckley lost quickly became obvious while I was watching it. Buckley always accepted the liberal paradigm and then tried to deconstruct it. It was a fundamentally lazy way of doing business that relied on his own talent and nothing else. The problem is that Buckley was the only game in town for conservatives. He set the tone and pace. And he always let the left begin by presenting their paradigm, which he accepted.

Once you accept their paradigm you have let them dictate where the battlefield will be. And that means you are better than halfway to losing the battle.

That applied to just about everything else he did. When you let the left decide what the paradigm is going to be then you have fundamentally accepted their view point. It means that they get to decide where the battle line is to drawn and who is to be invited to the battle. Buckley was the prototype of the amenable authority figure for the left. He would reliably "turn right and fire," when the left said, this group or that group "is beyond the pale." The Birchers, the Randites (etc).

If you wanted someone read out of the conservative movement you went to Bill Buckley.

In exchange, the MSM anointed him The Voice of the Legitimate Right. But the fact is they only allowed him this privilege because they knew they had to have a Voice of the Legitimate Right.

Because if they didn't select one for us we would have picked one for ourselves.

And you of course are happy to them do it. After all if you let them do so, they promised to like you...a little

Ah, found it. Obama adviser David Plouffe's "stray voltage" theory of politics: https://indianaoracle.wordpress.com/2015/08/29/political-misdirection-the-stray-voltage-theory/

“The theory goes like this,” Garrett wrote. “Controversy sparks attention, attention provokes conversation, and conversation embeds previously unknown or marginalized ideas in the public consciousness...”

Plouffe must be banging his head against a wall. If Hillary actually goes through with this reported speech, it would be a textbook case.

I'd point out that you guys are working from the same theory as President Obama in your analysis of the rumored speech's long-term consequences, but (a) the Stray Voltage theory could still be right; and (b) I know, you don't care.

Thanks for the link. That probably will wrap up my on line reading today and it looks good. Cuckley died a failure and a fraud. If you read his mealy-mouthed acceptance of the Iraq War until about 2004, it reveals a man of vain deceit. He did tremendous damage to the American Right, and I just laugh when someone writes about how much he would abhor the National Review today. That's how it always was, with notable exceptions as the now-fired Brimelow referenced above. It just was not as open in its cuckery.

Blogger tublecane August 23, 2016 7:23 PM

@171-I liked Buckley as a youth, though I thought his style pretentious. "The Unmaking of a Mayor" was fun, which isn't what I expected from a book like that. But I was disillusioned early. I think it was in "Up From Liberalism" that he argued that we shouldn't oppose Social Security on the grounds that it'll go broke, or something to that effect. What? That's a perfect reason to oppose it. What is the purpose of an old-age pension program that'll only work for a couple generations?

His point was the mating call of all conservatives, which is as you say to accept leftist premises and then trim around the edges. You hear that tax withholding, Obamacare, Cap 'n' Trade, and a thousand other abominations were suggested from the right, and it's not surprising. They're not standing athwart history yelling "Stop!" but standing on the side of the ride as the parade goes by stammering, "Pardon me, sir, but will you please slow down a bit? Thank you ever so kindly."

They keep moving, and conservatives keep conserving the last thing they've already marched past. Which is why the National Review used to be pro-segregation, or at least suspicious of the civil rights movement, and nowadays will fire anyone who theoretically offends the majesty of black bodies. (I refuse to believe anyone was actually offended by the Derb. Which is why I say theoretically, though it was feelz rather than reason which led to the backlash. Which might be okay were Buckley Machiavellian, and trading ground for power. But what did we end up with the Reagan and various Bush administrations? Whoopdedoo.

Blogger tublecane August 23, 2016 7:42 PM

@128-I see where you're coming from, but I think that class warfare of a sort is inevitable. Because we are fighting the intellectual class. The vast majority of people who make money off of ideas, in one way or another, are the enemy. That is so for too many reasons for me to mention.

So it doesn't really matter how smart is Trump's potential electorate, nor how erudite are our intellectual exponents. Because they are anti-intellectuals by definition. Because the intellectual class has defined intelligence as itself. And so to be against them us to be against intelligence, and therefore to be an anti-intellectual.

Blogger tublecane August 23, 2016 7:44 PM

Cataline Sergius, beating on a dead gelding:

Buckley lost all three debates because he was fucking lazy.

Correct. But perhaps deeper than that, it looks like he did not really want to win.

It's basic debate tactics to refuse your opponents premises. Gun nuts have done this for years: "Guns cause crime like wet pavement causes rain". So either Buckley with his fancy-pants Yale edukayshun didn't know the basics of debate, or that series with Vidal was just some sort of entertainment, a show, Kabuki theater.

As you point out, he routinely accepted the premises of the Left and then attempted to trim around the edges. I think the only issue he never did try to square the circle on was abortion, and that's probably as much due to his cultural Catholicism as anything else.

So what are we left with? At best Buckley was no intellectual but rather a lightweight poseur, at worst he was designated opposition.

Meh. Vox is right, Buckley was a cuck. He's still dead. So is his 'zine, although it's shambling along like a zombie. It's not 1970-whatever anymore. Move on!

Blogger tublecane August 23, 2016 8:04 PM

@152-I saw a DNC (I think) ad on Trump's new bulldog and they immediately quoted that Breitbart article with "Renegade Jew" in the headline. They knew who wrote it, and the context. It definitely didn't come from the alt-right. But they'll use it to suggest that Trump is a Nazi.

Point is, they can use anything. It doesn't matter whether the alt-right has loose lips or not. But it must continue to speak freely, because that's all it has. Otherwise it's conservatism all over again.

Blogger tublecane August 23, 2016 8:14 PM

@181-"They literally don't know who alt-Right is"

I've said it before and I'll say it again: this is our greatest strength, aside from our willingness to speak freely. We grew up in their culture. We went to their schools, watched their tv, read their books, listened to their music, used their search engines and encyclopedias. But they don't know us. They have only heard our ideas secondhand, if at all.

Our culture is still they're culture, in a way. They still feed off the social capital founded centuries ago. So they have passing knowledge of some of it. They've heard of Christianity before. They've read about a thing called "the law." They didn't invent the university, though they run them now. So it's not as if we're utterly alien. Still, we espouse ideas that they have to have their great-grandparents explain to them.

@190-That was a good article. I find the point about the Times defending Stalin in the 30s apt. That was respectable opinion back then. It's still far more respectable to defend Stalin than to defend Hitler, despite Stalin being, I believe, objectively worse. But Joe was in the left gang, and Dolphy in the right. And it's all about who/whom.

That's why I don't let the "extremist" label phase me. If it was extreme to doubt Comrade Stalin's ability to feed Ukraine in the 30s, then let me be extreme. Some of the stuff considered mainstream now is utterly crazy. Invade the World/Invite the World is pure madness. I welcome extreme alternatives.

Blogger tublecane August 23, 2016 8:44 PM

@195-I recall the phrase "the past is another country," though I don't know who said it. The alt-right is not another country. It has more in common with the history of this country than the ones now running it.

Blogger Robert Divinity August 23, 2016 8:51 PM

But Joe was in the left gang, and Dolphy in the right. And it's all about who/whom.

Absolutely. Trotsky implemented the first Great Terror, and is lauded because he was both a leftist and a Jew. He would have been as bad as Stalin but/for. Neither ever will be acknowledged as bad as Hitler. Sobran reveled in the hypocrisy.

A particularly good line from that column, to paraphrase, was that Sobran was old enough to recall when "anti-Semitism" meant to hate Jews, rather than to have Jews hate you. Again, it was another brilliant insight into communist inversion.

Invade the World/Invite the World is pure madness. I welcome extreme alternatives.

The alternatives are not as extreme as the concept they oppose.

Didn't National Review crank out an entire issue devoted to the question Is Joe Sobran An AntiSemite ? Rather excessive. To answer your question, he died back in 2010.

Flogging a zombie gelding myself, Cuck Buckley chose to leave control of National Review partly in the hands of son Christopher. I'm so sure that Jason Lee Steorts is one of Chrissy Buckley's friends, maybe a very close friend, and Steorts is the editor who chased Steyn out for telling a 1960's joke in The Corner.

So it looks like Mr. F. Buckley had at least one fag son, who then hired another fag, who has since run the whole place into a swamp. No offense intended to BGKB, that's how I see it.

Huh. Not only do women ruin everything, so do faggots.
