Day-by-Day mashup

I think I would understand this a lot better if I had ever seen Titanic. But he certainly did nail the sartorial element.

They play a little bit of class warfare by having a steerage class in the movie Titanic, but hardly enough to give insight into anything. The thing mainly drifts off into a love interest story. Now that it comes up I wonder if the real Titanic even had a steerage class. The thing was a luxury liner.

Anonymous Wyrd September 04, 2016 8:15 AM

Irrelevant without a naked Kate Winslet.

Anonymous That Would Be Telling September 04, 2016 8:21 AM

@2 Johnny:

There was most certainly a steerage class, formally "third class", and as this table shows, women and children first ruled the day (or night, as it might be), see for example that the percentage of men lost in first class was higher than any category of women or children in any class, although the odds of anyone surviving in that deep in the ship class were not good.

In other words, the movie lied a whole lot, as we expect from converged Hollywood.

Blogger Jack Ward September 04, 2016 8:23 AM

Titanic steerage class was known as 3rd. class. There are pics online of all that and the comparison to first class is dramatic. But, you get what you pay for.
The movie had a number of things wrong such as the ship not breaking in halve as it took water in the bow and the stern tilted up.

Blogger YIH September 04, 2016 8:47 AM

Nice. Perhaps Day by Day saw Snidely Whiplash from the previous thread?
#2 "Always let any person claiming to be a Conservative say any damn thing he pleases, Lies, insults, retardation, as long as he claims muh Constitution and Real Conservatism, it's not your blog."

Seeing the movie isn't necessary. I haven't seen it. Just the history, I believe, should do. I think I once saw, in a movie or show... Ah, I remember, a television series... An angel went back and unsunk the Titanic. His excuse (a false one, though could have fooled me) was to make sure the movie Titanic was not made. From what I can tell, that would be a good reason to travel back in time.

Now, I don't get all of it. But I just had a largish meal. I think I get the gist, I just don't like to peg these things until I have less in my stomach and more sleep. If I get it right, it's hilarious. And... possibly true, if they could make it so, after what will happen happens. Though leading from behind, and with the revolt and all, I'm not sure they will be able to do more than squint and flee.

Blogger Jewel September 04, 2016 8:54 AM

I always get a kick out of people who say "You have no right to say that," or, "You shouldn't say things like that." What they fail to notice is that I can say things, and very often do. Anyway. It is as if the existence of free will never enters into their imaginations.

Doom, that was Supernatural. The reason was that souls provide more power to Heaven, and an extra fifty thousand souls from the descendants would help in a war Heaven was in.

I didn't really get this cartoon either, but I wonder if Mr. Muir wants to write a movie script. It would be a good thing to have some conservative movies out there.

Blogger Ransom Smith September 04, 2016 9:20 AM

Titanic is a crap movie story wise.

But the visuals of the sinking ship (the practical, non CGI stuff) is great. They built a full stair case and flooded it with actors inside.

I'm told it was originally supposed to be a typical Cameron action movie before they changed the script up.

Blogger Derrick Bonsell September 04, 2016 9:24 AM

Third Class was actually pretty nice though. For the people who got to ride the Titanic it was very luxurious because they had their own sinks and a shared bathroom in each section but many of them had never had any running water or an indoor bathroom.

White Star Lines even subsidized many passengers because they wanted many people to experience their liners.

Anonymous Gem Setter September 04, 2016 9:27 AM

My, my, aren't you precious, Jewel.

Blogger Whisker biscuit September 04, 2016 9:32 AM

I'd heard, while it was nice, the ride got a little bumpy near the end.

Blogger Cataline Sergius September 04, 2016 9:46 AM

Honestly, I think Titanic is a pretty good movie. When all is said and done the only thing most people really have against it that FUCKING SONG!

Well that and it had Leo in it.

This is Mister Plinkett's take on it.

Blogger YIH September 04, 2016 10:03 AM

Steerage... Or as it's called now, ''Flying Coach''.
Where even (((Ben Shapiro))) complains about the cramped seating.

Blogger Dr. Mabuse September 04, 2016 10:07 AM

Titanic was so luxurious, its Third Class compared favorably with Second Class on older liners. Ransom Smith @13 is right about the movie visuals. Basically building a replica of various parts of Titanic and then flooding them amounted to a re-enactment, and we got to see things that no one actually witnessed. The dining room, with the tables all set for breakfast the next morning, as it was on the real ship; when the water got high enough, the plates began to float! We could hear delicate clinking as they bumped each other. Nobody actually saw that (or survived to describe it if they did) but now we have a little detail we never imagined before. They discovered that when water was pouring in through large windows, the force was strong enough to suck in a person who was standing just outside - they showed at least one case of that happening, which I never read anyone describing before. But the chances are it did happen, it's just that no survivor saw it or spoke of it.

It's not a very good movie, though, in terms of story and characters. Watch the Rifftrax commentary version - it's hilarious. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wa8T2IoQ1wg

This ain't right; the Vox Popoli is an old rickety trawler? It can't be. The least you could do is include the proper nautical prefix: the GG Vox Popoli or A/R Vox Popoli .

Blogger John Cunningham September 04, 2016 10:35 AM

VFM #424here. I thought it was a pretty decentmovie, the romance was hokey but the details were great. The scene where the sunken hulk morphed into the original ship was great. In Catholic school in the 1950s, the nuns told us the REAL reason why the ship had to sink. It seems that there was an atheist working in the Belfast shipyard. He used a cutting torch to etch into the interior of a boiler, "God himself cannot sink this ship." Thus, it had to go down.

The same people would call your workplace if they knew where you worked for saying your taxes should be paying for Latrina's 21 crackbabies. Well Day by Day gives you naked women, Right Wing sensibility and reasonably cheap advertising space (see lederboard ad at top) . How can I resist. And now it even allows me cross-over exposure to the Alt-Right. I'll have to thank Chris Muir (and Vox) personally.

i dunno about "butthurt and feelbad".

it was more that if he had described Black or Hispanic communities in any remotely similar terms and said that THOSE communities "deserved to die" he'd have been fired instantly from any media job in the country.

the hypocrisy makes people sit up and take notice. especially when it's from what is nominally the flagship magazine of conservative "thought" in the country.

also, it's indistinguishable from the statements of card carrying ((( Communist ))) professors at Harvard.
