Donald Trump's immigration plan

The 10-point Trump plan for immigration reform:
Number One: We will build a wall along the southern border

On day one, we will begin working on an impenetrable physical wall on the southern border. We will use the best technology, including above-and below-ground sensors, towers, aerial surveillance and manpower to supplement the wall, find and dislocate tunnels, and keep out the criminal cartels, and Mexico will pay for the wall.

Number Two: End ‘catch-and-release’

Anyone who illegally crosses the border will be detained until they are removed out of our country.

Number Three: Zero tolerance for criminal aliens

According to federal data, there are at least 2 million criminal aliens now inside the country. We will begin moving them out day one, in joint operations with local, state and federal law enforcement.

Beyond the 2 million, there are a vast number of additional criminal illegal immigrants who have fled or evaded justice. But their days on the run will soon be over. They go out, and they go out fast. …

We are going to triple the number of ICE deportation officers. Within ICE, I am going to create a new special Deportation Task Force, focused on identifying and removing quickly the most dangerous criminal illegal immigrants in America who have evaded justice. …. We’re also going to hire 5,000 more Border Patrol agents, and put more of them on the border, instead of behind desks. We will expand the number of Border Patrol Stations.

Number Four: Block funding for Sanctuary Cities

We will end the Sanctuary Cities that have resulted in so many needless deaths. Cities that refuse to cooperate with federal authorities will not receive taxpayer dollars, and we will work with Congress to pass legislation to protect those jurisdictions that do assist federal authorities.

Number Five: Cancel unconstitutional executive orders and enforce all immigration laws

We will immediately terminate President Obama’s two illegal executive amnesties, in which he defied federal law and the constitution to give amnesty to approximately five million illegal immigrants. … In a Trump administration, all immigration laws will be enforced.

Number Six: We are going to suspend the issuance of visas to any place where adequate screening cannot occur

According to data provided to the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest, between 9/11 and the end of 2014, at least 380 foreign-born individuals were convicted in terror cases inside the United States. The number is likely higher, but the Administration refuses to provide this information to Congress.

As soon as I enter office, I am going to ask the Department of State, Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to begin a comprehensive review of these cases in order to develop a list of regions and countries from which immigration must be suspended until proven and effective vetting mechanisms can be put into place.

Countries from which immigration will be suspended would include places like Syria and Libya.

For the price of resettling 1 refugee in the United States, 12 could be resettled in a safe zone in their home region.

Another reform involves new screening tests for all applicants that include an ideological certification to make sure that those we are admitting to our country share our values and love our people.

Number Seven: We will ensure that other countries take their people back when we order them deported

There are at least 23 countries that refuse to take their people back after they have been ordered to leave the United States, including large numbers of violent criminals. Due to a Supreme Court decision, if these violent offenders cannot be sent home, our law enforcement officers have to release them into U.S. communities. …. Those released include individuals convicted of killings, sexual assault and some of the most heinous crimes imaginable, who went on to reoffend at a very high rate.

Number Eight: We will finally complete the biometric entry-exit visa tracking system

For years, Congress has required a biometric entry-exit visa tracking system, but it has never been completed.

In my administration, we will ensure that this system is in place at all land, air, and sea ports. …Last year alone, nearly a half a million individuals overstayed their temporary visas. Removing visa overstays will be a top priority of my Administration. If people around the world believe they can just come on a temporary visa and never leave – the Obama-Clinton policy – then we have a completely open border. We must send the message that visa expiration dates will be strongly enforced.

Number Nine: We will turn off the jobs and benefits magnet

We will ensure that E-Verify is used to the fullest extent possible under existing law, and will work with Congress to strengthen and expand its use across the country. …Those who abuse our welfare system will be priorities for removal.

Number 10: We will reform legal immigration to serve the best interests of America and its workers

…The time has come for a new immigration commission to develop a new set of reforms to our legal immigration system in order to achieve the following goals:

– To keep immigration levels, measured by population share, within historical norms

– To select immigrants based on their likelihood of success in U.S. society, and their ability to be financially self-sufficient. We need a system that serves our needs – remember, it’s America First.

– To choose immigrants based on merit, skill and proficiency

– And to establish new immigration controls to boost wages and to ensure that open jobs are offered to American workers first.
It falls well short of a complete Muslim ban, aggressive mass repatriations, and a stated goal of the restoration of the pre-1965 demographic balance, that is necessary in the long term, it is a damned good start and certainly much better than any US immigration policy since 1965. Furthermore, it makes it very clear that Donald Trump fully intends to put Americans first and build that big, beautiful wall.

How El Presidente OWNED Drumpf

With fanfare and bravado
He swooped through their sky
To mingle with the amigos
This orange-haired guy

For a year he has shouted
To the world, one and all
He was going to build it
His beautiful wall

Across our south border
On Twitter he'd twit
His wall would go up
And they'd pay for it

So Mano to Mano
The two did face off
But in this moment of glory
He could only turn his head and cough

Enrique stared him down
Grabbed him firmly by his balls
"Go back across the border
"And we're not paying for any walls"

"You said we are rapists
"You said we're not friends
"Don't exploit my dear country
"To achieve your evil ends"

So Donald turned meekly
With his ego just tossed
Because south of the border
Mexico 1, Trump lost

I was honestly shocked when he explicitly promised a PHYSICAL wall, complete with all the bells and whistles.

Best part? Trump gave that speech last night in Phoenix after spending the day with Mexican President Nieto. So the path was "Go to Mexico, meet with Mexican President, then fly back to Phoenix and give speech on immigration reform".

Trump 2016 for the LOLZ! That's just pure entertainment with good to great optics.

Speaking of Robert Cialdini's work on influence.

One great throwaway line was something like "Hillary Clinton was invited to Mexico but she couldn't travel. She doesn't have the energy and stamina to Make America Great Again".

LOLZ again! Does anyone outside of the SJW rabbit warren remember her "oogly-boogly-alt-Right-rayciss-Trump" speech now?

As a plus, NY Times editors seemed to be as angry at Pena Nieto for meeting Trump as they were at Trump for daring to act Presidential by going to Mexico. But that's not a surprise, Carlos Slim has lost net worth due to Pena Nieto's breaking some monopolies, so it's to be expected that Slim's grey whore in New York would kick up a fuss.

Anonymous rubberducky September 01, 2016 11:49 AM

Looking at the reactions of the Clintonites over this speech, it is very apparent that those people really aren't Americans anymore. That speech by Donald Trump stirred the heart of Americans, it addressed the American national soul.

I even saw a Clinton campaign staffer, who is of course a recent immigrant, decry that Trump's speech was contrary to Beyonce's blessing of us. What? Beyonce's blessing? Who cares if Beyonce blessed us or why? Who, in fact, IS Beyonce, really? What is this tin-eared complaint, we have a man up there talking about putting America and Americans first again. That's dissonant to a Clintonite SJW, and their reactions reflect that dissonance.

If Trump gets the reforms he wants or otherwise just scraps bad trade deals like NAFTA, he can make the claim that indeed Mexico will be made to pay for the wall.

They won't write the check directly, necessarily.

But still. They're gonna pay.

Yeah but it looked like one. It was something like "Well, there I was with the President of Mexico; say, I invited Hillary but she can't travel, gee, what a shame she's so low energy. So as I was saying, I was with the President of Mexico and..."

Part of what is entertaining about Trump is how he tosses these little meme-bombs out in passing while talking about something else.

Blogger Sioux September 01, 2016 12:05 PM

Trump did make an excellent point about sunsetting the 1965 Immigration law (thanks to ol' drunk murderer Ted Kennedy) and start all over. The sovereignty of our country is abrogated by the UN collaborating with the State Dept. to settle "refugees" that are not part of our Immigration laws. That must be stopped now.

The most interesting statistic I've heard recently, and from the Left, not the Right, is that over the course of his terms Barack Obama has deported 2.5 million people.

So when someone says, "Deport 11 million people? Ain't gonna happen" I respond, "Tomorrow? No way."

But the facts clearly show that millons upon millions of people can easily be deported within a generation.

Blogger Brian S September 01, 2016 12:09 PM

I'll take what I can get, but I really feel like drastically reducing the welfare system and scaling the drug war down (simultaneously) are would be more efficient way of dealing with this situation by removing incentive for criminal behavior and encouraging self deportation of people who are only here for the money.

Blogger tz September 01, 2016 12:15 PM

To select immigrants based on their likelihood of success in U.S. society, and their ability to be financially self-sufficient.

That might be interpreted as a complete Muslim ban - it is a complete Sharia ban.

Starvation or self-deportation is more efficient. Ending employing illegals, welfare, and Sanctuary cities (the Left's Nullification) would cause this.

Mexico will pay for the wall, one way or another. Taxing the telecom would force the cronies in Mexico into paying, or remittances.

Anonymous Susan September 01, 2016 12:17 PM

How many of those 23 nations get foreign aid? Trump might be the first president to start pulling the plug on foreign aid.

If he actually does enforce laws on the books, like any against employers who hire them in the first place, jumping ugly on them could have a huge impact on them self deporting. Along with suspension of all welfare benefits to non-citizens.

Even if Mexico never does pay a dime for the wall, if millions of Mexicans do deport, whether voluntarily or not, he could claim the vastly reduced welfare/prison/school/etc funds is a net payment. I think rhetorically, people would accept such an argument. After all, the Dems did it for years to deleterious effect.

They're not mutually exclusive. In an ideal world, instead of hiring all these new ICE agents, he'd just use the same money to pay bounties. I'd be a great source of income for military and law enforcement to moonlight on. Better yet, make it income tax exempt earnings.

Maybe it is wishful thinking but the speech seemed to be more broadly anti-immigrant than his others. In other speeches he argued for restrictions based on security and economics. This one expanded to include arguments about the need to preserve quality of life and shared values, the need for assimilation and the suggestion some types can't be assimilated. The hints at making policy so the percent of the population that is foreign born was capped also seemed new.

What is interesting is how things that you and Cernovich were talking or tweeting about months ago are beginning to make it onto the MSM talk-radio stations out here in LA. Weeks ago, it was standard-issue to dump on Trump. Now all of a sudden several issues like Hillary's health, the polls aren't telling the whole truth about Trump voters, etc, are making the rounds. Litte Ben is still fighting his fight on his program, but I wouldn't be surprise if he loses his radio program out here soon. I stopped listening to him when he became hysterical about Trump.

Vox, I'm afraid that you might be overlooking (or downplaying) the single most important (from my perspective) aspect of Trump's immigration plan as it relates to those of us who count ourselves among the alt-right.

The 10th point in his "10 point Plan for Immigration" is to:

"Reform LEGAL immigration"

One of the tenants of this point is described quite clearly as:

"To keep immigration levels, measured by population share, within historical norms"

So, let's take a moment to understand that our candidate has now put into writing his intent to ensure that America remains a white-majority nation in perpetuity.

No single deportation effort or the minutiae of differences between an ideological test as opposed to the outright ban of all Muslims could have such a far reaching impact as this single sentence would have under a President Trump.

How could anyone not see this as a watershed moment in Trump's moving from implicit to explicit support for white America?

This blew me away when I first heard it spoken and I am still pretty awed by the whole thing.

A major party candidate for POTUS just went all in for rolling back #WhiteGenocide in America!!!

Thoughts?

Anonymous The OASF September 01, 2016 12:44 PM

The idea of a wall makes me nervous. Two reasons.

1. The wall may actually stymie the outflow of immigrants once #9 is enacted.

2. It works in reverse. It can be used to prohibit exit just as easily as entry. I don't like giving the fedderel goobbermint that option.

But any option is better than what we have now. So I support it 100 percent.

From my real life up and close personal experience, #9 is the key and most important. If that is done property it will make it all flow out easier, faster, cheaper and relatively peacefully.

Blogger Gaiseric September 01, 2016 12:46 PM

So Trump's papers are getting smart. And detailed.

Let me guess . . . the God-Emperor of the future has a policy analyst or two helping him draft papers. The Wonks strike back!

I like Trump a lot. Hell, on my website (qedbook.wordpress.com) I lend him a helping hand by telling him how he can seize control of America by coopting everyone from the Press to the Senate. But in the past Trump has always been short of ... shall we say ... abstract abilities.

A smart man, but not a deep thinker, except where money and buildings are concerned. And golf courses, I guess. Still! Let's look on the bright side! When he is ushered into office, and sits down behind the Oval Office desk heavily, he'll have policy wonks aplenty to flesh out most of his good ideas.

Still, I do hope he doesn't underestimate the media. I have another article on them at my site. It's titled "The Mass Media's Not-So-Secret Love Affair With Trump."

They actually do love him, you know. They really do. He makes life fun again. And for a TV producer, that's no easy matter.

Real immigration reform would be a big move. The current laws pretty well guarantee that most immigrants are unskilled Mexicans...and the United States has a surplus of unskilled labor. Not to mention the problems caused by large numbers of immigrants from any single country.

Having said that, I hope a President Trump would take much harsher action on sanctuary cities. The proper action is to declare them in rebellion against the United States, and to suppress the rebellion by force of arms.

Blogger DrAndroSF September 01, 2016 12:50 PM

IF Mr Trump gets elected, he will face tsunami-level opposition 24/7. If he manages even 1/3 of his program, that will be really something and well worth it.

The meta-effect, though, is opening up a space for White America to wake the hell up to the situation we are in.

Getting back to the 1965 demographics would require repatriation of 44 million Hispanics and around 14 million Asians. I don't think that's possible without triggering exactly the kind of Balkan war you'd be trying to prevent.

Decoupling California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas would get you about halfway there. Those 4 states account for about half our current Hispanic and Asian populations.

Sort of a revisitation of the Guadalupe-Hidalgo treaty.

I think just giving the boot to the California coast - using the 5 freeway as the demarcator of its eastern along with the San Francisco bay as its northern border - would do wonders for the country.

It doesn't get us back to the 60's, but it does excise 2 of 3 most virulently globalist power centers (Silicon Valley and LA) in the country and takes a big chunk out of the Left's electoral advantage by turning inland California into an Arizona style red state.

Immigration is down the list of important issues in this election as far as most voters are concerned. I think he would strategically like to get immigration mostly out of the way early so he can get potential voters to focus on the economy, terrorism and health care as election day approaches and let their butthurt heal up a little.

The most important part of Trump's plan is the sequencing. There will be NO status adjustment until the border is sealed and other interior enforcement is well underway. In other words, it is real. This has the feel of the wise counsel of Sen. Jeff Sessions, who knows how badly his own party lies and dissembles and promises amnesty and enforcement and only delivers on the former.

This is the most important immigration speech ever delivered by an American politician. It was one big "fuck that" to the 1965 Third World Importation Act. Let me also note Trump pointed out how the media studiously does not ask Hillary Clinton about her plan, which is mass migration and open borders, because the public would revolt immediately if they knew what she really wants.

It was a great day and night for Trump and very well may be remembered as when he sealed the deal and won.

He said he is going to revisit immigration quotas which is brilliant. I loved every minute of his speech. Trump was right on and he hit all the right notes. And he couched deportation in upholding the law. The Law says if you are here illegally, you are deported. Enough said. It was an amazing, inspiring speech and it set the standard. It was very conservative speech. I will be voting for Trump in November.

I hear a basic high triple fence (something not easily climbed) works well. Patrol the two roads created between the fences. Cameras and drones to detect people trying to go over/under. Maybe get whatever sensor methods they use to detect UFO fanatics creeping on Area 51.

All that's left is the long tunnels between houses on both sides of the border. Those are hard to do, and with the border well fenced, the Patrol can spend more time watching for those.

The goal is not to make it impossible because you can't. The goal is to make it as hard as possible in a cost effective manner. You can only stuff so many people into an engine compartment.

So... who wants to develop the fence building robot with me.

True. However, I suspect that with the right prodding, what is stated above could still be used to justify essentially cutting of Muslim immigration. After all - who gets to determine what "adequate screening" is?

That was my single most important take-away from that entire rousing, delightful, exciting speech also.

The man actually stated, openly, that he wants the government's immigration laws to ensure that the United States remains majority White, majority English-speaking, forever.

This is a historic statement. If he's elected (I'm still confident) and if he carries out his program (I'm pretty confident, there, too -- he's already rich as Croesus, he's looking for fame before he dies, and 'just another beltway cuck' isn't going to get him that), then, ladies and gentlemen, we are witnessing a crucial moment in the history of the USA. Do mosquitos bite pigs? Instead of the zika virus, perhaps we can discourage refugees by having a pig and dog petting zoo with standing water nearby the refugee areas.

On the Drug War, Trump might be a only Nixon can go to China candidate. It is very inefficient and part of the big-pharma-prison industrial complex. Very inefficient and ineffective. It won't be a top-line issue, but I expect him to legalize marijuana, hemp, and a lot of other things.

On welfare, when you don't have blue-collar jobs there isn't an alternative. When the Millenials with English Lit degrees can get $25/hr jobs with full benefits you can cut off welfare. Here Ivanka's speech comes in: You, single mother, can either starve, or take a blue collar job and get day-care.

@57 Security is ALWAYS about economics. Do you want your computer secure from the skript kiddiez or the NSA, or some foreign ID theft gang? You can put an economic threshold - it will cost $100, $100k, $100M, $100B to break.

There is an amount of profit from getting an illegal across the border. Juanita the pregnant might only have a few hundred dollars. ISIS might have tens of thousands. But you'd need enough of them to pay to build a deep tunnel, or to hang-glide, or whatever else.

There are fences and walls around prisons. How much would it cost to penetrate one to allow a successful escape?

Remember Thatcher and "The Boat People"? Boats can go around it, but would be more expensive as well.

What is the threat? A wall/fence/moat/barrier will prevent wholesale entry of the poor.

Yes, exactly! I've always said that a sanctuary city is a place where the rights of non-citizens are guaranteed, while the rights of rightful citizens are ignored or denied.

This equates to a foreign, occupying force - and should be treated as such. Hang the mayor, the chief of police, city council, anyone who has supported the regime hostile to America.

2) A skilled trade (artisan painter) deemed an asset to the country and adequate to support himself and a family.

3) No criminal background.

4) Good health as determined by US doctors before entry.

The pre-1965 immigration laws were the reason for the rise of the American middle class. The post-1965 laws are the reason for its decline.

Some countries have refused their people. Haiti is one, for example, take some illegal Haitian out of NYC and deport him to Port au Prince, the Haitian border authorities refuse to let him leave the airplane. The current regime then just flies them back and turns them loose in the US, really special in the case of violent criminals.

Station ICE officers in emergency rooms. It's such a wonderful feeling going to an emergency room in the Southwest and getting triaged behind a bunch of illegals who ain't paying shit and use the ER as their PCP. If you show up at a hospital with no insurance/can't pay, ok, we'll treat you. Afterward, your going to have a conversation with ICE and if you can't prove you have a legal right to be here bye-bye.

Operational ROE for the Wall: Anyone who approaches the Wall from the Mexican side at night is assumed to be an ISIS infiltrator or Cartel smuggler and is shot.

Anyone who approaches during the day will be ordered to halt. If they don't halt, they are assumed to be ISIS/Cartel and are shot. If they do halt, they are detained, searched, any contraband confiscated, and Mexican officials called to come get them.

"If they run, they are Cartel. If they stand still, they are disciplined Cartel!"

They will bring their anchor baby in for a diaper rash. TRUMP's VP Pence pushed for a law to allow deportation from hospitals. I had one illegal alien DUI patient 3 times, if TRUMP offered to pardon those who killed illegals that have taken American lives, drug dealers, and MS-13 facial tattooed bangers I would be out on inauguration day hunting with a mauser & rainbow feather boa.

Countries which refuse to take back their criminals are easy to deal with. Won't take back your criminals? We won't accept any of your citizens full stop.

Using tax payer money for foreign aid has to stop as well. Tax needs to be spent running the country for the good of the taxpayers that the tax is raised in

Companies that don't pay tax or use sophisticated tax shelters should be listed as foreign companies and face restrictions with regards to government contracts. After all the government uses taxes to pay for these contracts and as such local companies should be favoured (within reason of course).

Dual citizens or citizens who choose to identify as a hyphen citizen should face restrictions on government positions. If they can't choose whose side they are on that's cool, they're just not going to be in senior positions within the government / public service. I'd even go as far as saying supervisor level is to high.

The easiest way to clean up DOJ is to put it to work on tasks guaranteed to make the majority of progressive tools resign.  For instance, put the entire CRD to work prosecuting death-penalty hate-crime cases against the likes of the murderers of Dorothy Dow and Paul Monchnik and fire them for errors.

Stop issuing visas to them, including for UN diplomats.  They'll take their common criminals back if we refuse to allow their suited ones in.

AdognamedOp wrote:What's going to happen when the cartels start picking off workers building the Wall?
Just put a rolling steel shield in front of the worksite.  To really take away the cartels' fun, put your Internet-controlled counter-sniper guns on the shield and let the US army do mortar training on the live targets.

they're referring to people who have been imprisoned and are now finished with their terms. countries refuse to take them so they go back into the population to later commit more crimes. sure it'd be nice if we could convict em and then send em back, but most of these places have nowhere to put them. We might have better luck building a huge prison just behind the wall out of the US on a piece of property we purchased, accessible through a gate in the wall, shut that gate every other time so if the scumbags escape, oops, not our problem anymore. Or hell, build a really shoddy mexican style prison so all of the illegal aliens we imprison for crimes here DO escape into mexico. oops. Sorry Presidente...

@ #125 I read that in ye olden days of the British Empire their Navy would put malcontents on deserted islands and their defence would be "He was OK when we left. What happened to him after that hasn't got anything to do with us"

In a similar vein, well the DGAF of the bosses. My friend was let go from his job because he had to much time off. The time he took off was a week trying to come to terms of his brother being murdered. The management said "that has got nothing to do with us"

I'm working on a second novel that's a cross between WKRP and Jules Verne. The station I work at has a colorful history. I need to convince the management to do a 50th anniversary book with interviews of old-timers before they all die off.

With this immigration policy, the only way Trump will not win is if (TPTB) steal the election. (They) don't even have to be particularly covert about it... just outright lie, steal, and coerce in so many places that it will be quantitatively impossible to review such chaos. I trust Trump will have oversight operations in place to prevent the worst of it from happening.

More stupidity from the idiot Nate. You bitched about him a million times on Twitter, you idiot.

Anyone else remember when Nate through a hissy fit when Vox said something mean about stay-at-home dads and Vox had to comment on Nate's blog to calm him down?

Bane was right about what a poser Nate is. I miss Bane.

Way down the thread for this but something worth mentioning:

Previously this year we had former Mexican President Vincente Fox telling the press "No wall, no way". But now we have the actual President of Mexico saying "We no pay for it".

The Mexicans have conceded. The Overton window has shifted. Eventually even Carlos Slim's grey whore in New York will get the memo.

@88 "Final Solution to Sanctuary Cities:
1. Pick Sanctuary city at random.
2. Publicly inform city it has 24 hours to cease being a sanctuary city.
3. When city refuses, deport everyone residing in city."

No no, not at random -- pick a city lots of White folks will WANT to live in and fix up! (How about SFran? Or is Portland stupid enough to be sanctuary?) By picking a place we WANT, and throwing out the traitors, "refilling" and recovering the city will be immediate and excellent! (How exciting! Let's do this!)

@108 "I fully expect the wall will be protested by environmentalists and animal rights activists due to habitat impact."

Wonder if Sierra Club will have to return the (((bribe))) they took a couple decades ago to never ever fight against illegal immigration? Wonder if building the wall will include cleaning up the horrific mess the illegals have made of our Southern states? (Ooh! Maybe we could REQUIRE the self-deporters to take a bag of illegal-dumped garbage WITH them as they leave?)

People want to live in SF? There are tech workers living in their vans because they can't afford rent. I'd put a lot of other cities on the list before them.

Also, on Twitter today Trump sent out assurances that his ground game would be solid on election day. He's not taking TPTB for granted any more than we are. He's got good reason to know they'll do anything they can remotely cover up or bluff through, and it sounds like he's getting ready for them.

You must-ve missed the basis for my comment: Alexander (msg 88) suggested we EMPTY the sanctuary cities of ALL residents. Just like a neutron bomb, only without any lingering radioactivity: the beauty (and, yeah, the garbage and injury) of that city -- EMPTY of people! I've move to Portland to clean and restart it!
