NFL Week 2

The weekly NFL open thread. Sorry for the delay, but I haven't been paying attention today because the Vikes-Packers are the late game.

I have to say, I love seeing the LOS ANGELES Rams in their traditional blue-and-yellow.

Steelers win. I'm happy.

Ratbirds come back after spotting the Clowns 20 points. Ugh.

Part of me wants to celebrate the Vikes reopening their stadium, but with Nelson on my fantasy roster, I need him to step up tonight and catch all the TDs from Rodgers.

And of course Brady's boys remain best in their division ... by their fingernails, with a third-string QB running the second half.

Cute Nate and the obligatory Pats hate.

I'll go off topic for a sec and praise NDSU. For them to go into Iowa and win was impressive. They do this to D1 school almost every year it seems. By brother in law bleeds yellow and gold. To see the bison rape him was a thing of beauty.
As for the vikes, first game for Bradford with tons of pressure and a new offense will be tough. I think he'll start out shaky tonight and he and the vikes will have to chase from behind all game. 27-16 Pack. Sadly.

It's not that easy. I've been an NFL fan since I was a kid, since Lawrence Taylor ended Joe Thiesmann's career.
And then this: Only three regular-season NFL games have ever ended in overtime with a safety: in 1989 when the Minnesota Vikings defeated the [then] Los Angeles Rams 23–21 when Mike Merriweather blocked a punt into the end zone.
The Vikes got 7x3 and the Rams got 3x7 to get to OT, then they won.
It's not easy to walk away from 30+ years of the NFL.
Vox, if this is the last NFL thread, that's fine, I understand.

As with the JQ, everyone is moving through the NFLQ at a different pace, based on their own historical experiences. Tomorrow's Eagles game should be interesting:

Ah the NFL. In my early years, I grew up in NE Ohio and the family was split between Browns and Steelers fans. Went with the Browns. Moved down here to the other corner of the state when I was 8. Refused to root for the Bengals and remained a Browns fan ever since.

I stuck with them all these years (minus, obviously, the 96-98 seasons...). However, their continual suckage since The Return has found me growing more and more indifferent to it all, and last season I just started to lose interest.

I didn't even bother last week, outside of checking the scores at the end of the day Sunday. Saw that the Browns lost yet another opener, so I was glad I did yardwork instead of wasting 3+ hours of my life just to be disappointed.

And today, thanks to Amazon's Sunday delivery, my copy of Schmitt's Concept of the Political arrived.

Decisions, decisions: should I spend a few hours this afternoon reading some Carl Schmitt...or tune in to the Browns/Ravens game?

I checked the score around 1:30. Browns were up 20-2 at the end of the 1st quarter!

Holy shit!! They're not only winning but winning big!! Against the Ravens! And it's only the 1st quarter!

I was tempted to tune in, but Schmitt beckoned. I ended up reading the forward, intro, and got in to the first chapter, sitting out on the patio with a warm breeze and some iced tea.

By then it was 4:15. "Well the game should be about over" I thought to myself, and I checked the score...

Ravens 25 Browns 20.

Glad I went with Schmitt.

Blogger YIH September 18, 2016 7:38 PM

Here's one reason why: The [insert city name here] Rams did beat the Seattle Seahawks, 9-3 in their home(?) opener.
Now I've said in the past the ''Jacksonville'' Jaguars should move - the NFL shouldn't have put a team there in the first place. But seeing the [insert city name here] Raiders and now the [insert city name here] Rams there is just something wrong about that.
I can at least understand why the ''Houston Oilers'' had to move, the Astrodome was falling apart and the city of Huston was not interested in replacing it then (that's why they're now the Tennessee Titans).
But ''free agency'' for pro sports teams is like ''free trade''.

Why should Jacksonville move? Because they can't sell out a stadium that is bigger than 90% of the rest of the NFL stadiums? Do you realize that Jacksonville actually isn't even in the bottom 25% in attendance?

No. You don't. Because all you see is empty seats.

Jacksonville ranked ahead of Cincinatti, Oakland, Minnesota, and Detroit. And it was less than 100 tickets on average of Tampa Bay, and less than 1000 away from frickin' Chicago.

There were a lot of things that went really really wrong in that game. including a huge missed call that gave ol miss a TD.

Didnt' matter though. Bama came back and really wrecked them in the second half. The only reason it was even in doubt late was because Bama's D was so gassed from running back that 90 yard TD.

After the Seahawks abysmal game, one of the idiots asked Carroll if he thought it was a good thing every team in the NFC West was 1-1.

that's the only way the Rams had a chance.

The formula of using a patch-work O-Line while investing all money and draft capital elsewhere works against most of the NFL, but it doesn't work against a team with a D-Line like the Rams.

Luckily, the Rams can't do anything else competently, so regardless of how poorly the Hawks do against them, they'll finish a Fisher-esque 7 and 9 so the Titans will get some decent draft picks out of the Goff deal.

Niggerball is run by Jews for the usual purposes.

As it turns out the pack of feral negroes that represents my locality is very bad this year. Your pack of feral negroes will surely defeat them. The Jews win.

Hello

As a Euro guy, there is one thing I fail to understand. American football is about as American as an aircraft carrier. The sport is both beloved in America and met with distant curiosity anywhere else.

So, let's start with some questions.

* Clin Kaepernick was making 19 million bucks year. As an average QB. Are such salaries standard in the NFL ? I know the ameican public is the richest attendance in the world, yet those salries seem extremely high

* How come is it OK for LA Clippers (NBA team) to expel a franchise owner for having said something racist 10 years ago but not OK for NFL to expel people who direspect the american flag ?

* Which part of American don't they understand in the world "American" football ? Do they really thing that the families watching them play from the USA show as much interest if the game was called "peruvian football" and mostly embraced the Maya culture ?

* What is flabbergasting is that this shitstorm is destorying billions of dollars in franchise and league value. So I know that converged organisations always fail, yet this shit is the biggest boost to MMA and soccer attendance among US sport viewers since ... forever. How come no franchise owner come up saying that a league that sees itself entitled to slap huge fines to players for their "out of the stadium" behavior in the name of "enforcing the league's high moral standards" did not come and say that assholes who destroy the leagues value should be terminated and barred for playing in NFL ... ever ?

a - it is "okay" for the NFL to reprimand or expel Kaepernick, they're just choosing not too
b - you fail to understand the primary principle of our age: Niggers never do nuffin wrong

Kaepernick's salary is on the high side, but he was fortunate enough to sign a new contract at a high point in his career before defenses figured out how to shut him down. yes, he is grossly over paid to ride the bench.

My take on this is simple; If the NFL wanted to put a stop to this nonsense, they could. Think about the dude being paid $10 an hour to dress up in the furry costume and dance on the sideline. He might be hung over from the previous night, and by halftime about ready to puke his guts out.
But his job is to fake being the team's biggest fan - even if the team is losing.
But that's what the team pays him to do, put on a show for the customers.
Baddell shoud tell Krapernick ''look, it doesn't matter what you think about the US, I don't give a rat's ass about Black Lives (don't) Matter, when you're out there, just fake it, stand up, put your hand on your chest, pretend you care, then when the anthem stops, pick up you damn clipboard, stand around looking stupid, and wait for your chance to go out there and chuck a pick 6 - got it?''
When he leaves the stadium he can do whatever he wants, but while he's ''on the clock'' he's got to at least fake it.
The NFL has lots of rules about how players conduct themselves during games and this should be no exception.
If he sits or kneels or flips the bird the team or the league should treat him like the asshole he is. As in: ''Don't stand? $5000 fine, keep not standing, keep paying $5000 per game, it's up to him''.
But of course, the commissioner is a cuck, so he ain't going to do that.

Speaking of NFL stupidity, I'm sorry All Day got hurt again, I hope it's not serious. but having to walk him through the damn sports bar? REALLY?

The NFL, that gets paid to be all that patriotic. What was wrong with just a color guard? Why not have a woman aborting her baby during the worship service at the end of the anthem? Maybe execute one or two subjects that refuse to take the loyalty oath?

There is a very good article from the alt-right's Gregory Hood about football that's worth a read.
