NFL Week One

This is an open thread to discuss the first week of the NFL 2016 season. Skol Vikings!

My NFL watching this season is going to be minimal as long as my 49ers have Kaepernick on the team. I'm not interested in the other teams enough to watch and honestly the 49ers haven't felt like my team since they ran Harbaugh out of town. Kaepernick aside they aren't going to be anything special this season anyway. I'd like for Bradford stay healthy and the Vikings to do well. The most disappointing thing about the NFL for me (besides the creeping political correctness) are the injuries to key players late in the season and playoffs.

As a kid in the 1980s I used to watch the 49ers practice at Red Morton park in Redwood City where they had their training facility. My mom would take me along with another friend. I don't remember much, but she reminded me how Jerry Rice, Joe Montana and other players would show up in their Ferraris and Porsches and walk over to the practice field. It's a memory I'll treasure, even though things seem upside down now compared to them. At least Jerry Rice has his head on straight in criticizing Kaepernick, saying "All lives matter" and that the American flag should be respected.

Yeah the NFL removed the "probable" designation.

For 2016 the Game Status Report’s player availability categories are defined as:
Out – Will not play
Doubtful – Unlikely to play
Questionable – Uncertain if player will play

Hillary is teetering between questionable and doubtful.

Oof, those are both some tough options. Good running backs, but both are injury prone. Since both are fighting top-level defenses, you've got a pickle. I'd say start Hyde, if only because the Rams haven't settled into their new stadium yet.

I brought the NFL up with a neighbor and he explained his disinterest by saying they should be throwing a watermelon around.

As for the "look at me," hey I matter, and in nicest sort of way up yours if you don't agree. They do have a great display of athletics in these games and I sometimes get into them, but for the time being I am boycotting, I am just not dedicated enough to know if it will last. Best not to take these sorts of things seriously.

@1 - My condolences. I agree that Jim Harbaugh shouldn't have been run out of town, but his only use was to get the funding to close Candlestick and open up shop in Santa Clara.

Of course, I'm being subjected to the Ratbirds (as I live near Baltimore), so I'm a de facto member of the Bills Mafia today. They just scored, so it's just in time to see Joe Flaccid become not elite before the half, as is tradition.

Kind of pissed at my wife. Her aunts are extor...er, uh, "pay" for season tickets for the Redskins, and I wanted to go to the game tomorrow night, as I'm a life-long Steeler fan. Oh, well, it's supposed to be an interesting week at work, and I've heard the horror stories about parking in Raljon, so it's just as well as I stay home.

Yes, 2nd year in a row for me. It's great for watching replays, but no live games (you can get radio feeds live though). The condensed view (30 minutes) is great, but it's a much different cadence than you're used to.

The oline assignment for AD is precision work, and they don't get great at it until two or three games in. AD also thrives on less than fresh defenders. He was awful last year on opening day against the trench defenders.

If it weren't for Blair Walsh's continuing adventures in kicking, that would have been a nice, relaxing start to the season. The Titans stacked the box and took away AD, Hill took what he could get, and the defense made things happen.

That's why we say Coach Zimmer is the best the Vikes have had since Bud Grant.

No, we remembered who owns the Redskins and decided it was probably cheaper to go to a game in Pittsburgh. She became a Steeler fan when we first started dating for the simple fact that we both abhor the Ratbirds. I refuse to go to PSINet Stadium for any reason whatsoever, especially when the Steelers come to town.

Horse lost by two...to the Lions! We were up by a point and the secondary is non-existent, thus allowing the Lions to kick a field goal with 4 seconds left! We end up doing some Benny Hill laterals in the end zone at game's end. We have three players injured over the course of the game...ugh...going to be a looong season.

Yep. :) After the Blount fumble I started to expect an Arizona comeback. They earned that win in the first three quarters, but just escaped with it in the fourth.

That's to be expected...he's 15 years younger than Brady. I suspect he won't have the awareness Brady has, though. That comes from preparation & experience.

I don't know if Garoppolo can match up to Brady in the clutch. We might not see enough of him to judge that this season. I don't think the coaching staff expects him to have it, though, or they would have let him take a shot down-field at the end of the first half.

Unrelated to the Patriots - is Revis Island done, or did he just get burned by a top-flight WR?
