The Blaze is going down

According to a diabolically fashionable source:
My spies tell me that The Blaze is desperately seeking a cash injection to stay afloat, and that if it doesn't get investment in the next couple of weeks it's all over. The company was looking at a DIP loan last week, which is only ever used in cases of significant financial distress, when other options are exhausted. I can't imagine who'd buy the company now, especially since all the big editorial talents are gone. Last significant person to jump ship was Jason Howerton, whom I rate highly and who was, I am told, almost single-handedly responsible for the success of the written content on the site. What is left, at this point, to acquire?
Well, there is always Matt Walsh, the Bravest of the Brave, who isn't afraid to run away after calling out the entirety of Donald Trump's supporters.

To be honest, I have no idea who else is there, because I have literally never been on that site or watched that channel, or, to be honest, ever been entirely clear what it actually is. The only thing I really knew about it was that Glenn Beck is involved and he is a fraud.

In November 2014, for instance, TheBlaze.com was attracting 29 million unique visitors per month, according to figures from the Web traffic measure service Quantcast. But by November 2015, monthly traffic for the TheBlaze.com had dropped to 16.4 million unique visitors, and traffic for the associated website GlennBeck.com had plunged from 4.4 million to 1.4 million uniques.

It's worse now, having fallen to 8.3 million uniques in August 2016. That's a 70 percent drop in less than two years. No wonder Beck is in trouble.

That means I have to take three million dollars out of my wallet, and I have done this now for several years. I don’t have money left. I’m out... I need three million dollars [in savings] by the end of the year. If we wait, it’s gonna be massive, bloody cuts.”

Then it came to depend on the same donors as the GOP Establishment and suddenly mass migration wasn't such a big issue. His rise in popularity coincided with the birth of the Tea Party movement. His mistake was in thinking that the bulk of the Tea Partiers shared his fetish for the Constitution when what they really wanted was an end to the raping and pillaging of their country.

Not surprising, and he'd alienated many already given what he said in spring of 2014. Glen Beck was on the air telling people not to listen to him, read his website, tv network etc. if they supported the Bundy ranch people. That the only way to fight the feds was going the peaceful way of Ghandi and MLK. Toss in his immigration stances with the border photo op with Ted Cruz and the children's migration crusade and being anti-Trump is the nail in the coffin of Beck's attempt to be a more mainstream cuckservative Alex Jones.

I quit listening to Beck a long time ago. He was never a traditional conservative. He has always been a Martin Luther King loving nut. He used to say he wa just a rodeo clown. I would agree with this self assessment at least the clown part.

Unfortunately, he still takes up a good portion of the morning talk radio in my North Florida area. That leaves me with a good time to listen to rock or podcasts.

A somewhat obscure voice, Mike Church, also lost his audience last year when he started harping on Trump and berating the callers who called in supporting Trump. I couldn't stand the guy. The times I checked in to see what he was discussing got fewer and fewer. I noticed his callers got fewer when he begin to say, "the lines are open." And they stayed that way.

Beck's business model was catering to the Tea Party with a Western, televangelist flavor that Fox News was missing with their East Coast/Irish/Catholic power line-up of Hannity/O'Reilly and their stable of New York lawyers, neocon pundits and big city blondes.

It was a smart short-term play, but he greatly overestimated his shelf life. After the base turned out to help the GOP take both houses and they still rolled over for Obama, Beck expected them to triple down on him and his brand instead of looking for a new champion.

If he would have followed Hannity's footsteps in becoming a goofy beta wingman for Trump he could have kept a place on the big stage, but he wanted to be the head of the movement, not a stray beefy arm. But now's he the sore derriere.

Except that Church got bumped more for his emerging adherence to Traditional Catholic doctrine than his opposition to Trump. As a listener to his show, I thought the dialogue was extremely interesting and focused on a lot of the spiritual causes of our problems. THAT is why he was forced out in favor of Bannon. He's still on the SXM payroll, but they're not going to put him back on the satellite feed, not when he's got his own Internet station growing.

Oddly enough, Church has accepted Trump on the same face as the Alt-Right has, and agrees with much of his platform. Hell, Church has made a concerted effort to help get the word out from Trump rallies on a daily basis via his own YouTube channel.

The King Dude gets it, unlike Cheeto Jesus there in Dallas.

Transcript of Glen Beck interview, Sept 3, 2016-
-----------
https://twitter.com/TheeCurrentYear/status/772242175274979328

Glen Beck: When people think that-of Glen Beck- well yeah he’s always talking about Nazis. Yes…because when I was on Fox news, most the times I talked about the Nazis I was, uh, warning about the rise of – not then called the alt right- but of the extreme, European, right. And here we are, it’s happening.

Q: you see it happening today. You-you describe the alt right in what way? How would you define this concept today?

GB: I would describe it in the terms they don’t like to use and they are redefining: racist, Klan members, Nazis, neonazis, um, anarchists, uhm, national socialists, national populists, Um, they are, umm, they are no friend of, of anybody who believes in the constitution, left or right.

Q: Do you think other? Do you think media outlets, conservative media outlets, others are doing a good enough job refuting this BS, that some of these alt-right websites propagate?

GB; No, I don’t think anybody on the right or the left is. We’re trying to. I have a major-um, I have, um, Right now I’m putting together, uh, a four-day special for television, I’m creating several serials for radio on it, um we’re even considering another book. The next book that comes out may be on the alt-right. This is, this is the warning , and I believe one of the last warnings of the republic. What’s going to happen after this election, nobody is prepared for, and w-w-w and that’s what we should be talking about.

GB recently claimed his ratings were up 25%, maybe that was for his radio show.

The Blaze had some good content for a while, but it all went south when Glenn decided Cruz was the anointed one and then turned his show into an antiphonal chorus with he, pat and stu, and occasionally jeffy saying "Trump is a poopy head", culminating with him facing the Cheetos.

He's doing serials with the history of various things which may not be bad, but I think everyone has already tuned out.

It is one thing to have a radio show with other content, but another when you need subscriptions (many were cancelled apparently, as some Cable and Satellite systems). Free in a time-slot before Rush is one thing. Asking $10/mo just to see Back screech about Trump is another. And the Blaze TV is mostly Beck content. TheBlaze.com news is just another aggregator and is bad with the "You won't believe this video" clickbait headlines (even for subscribers).

And their apps are horrible. The main screen is portrait only, the video landscape, and you can't hear the audio in the background.

Blogger JDC September 06, 2016 5:29 PM

And then Nobel Peace Prize Winning President Obama went on the world-wide goodwill tour, restating he has raised up the standing of the U.S., to its triumphant spot it remains to date.

Who can forget the celebrations of goodwill of the Arab Spring and the love Egyptians showed U.S. newswomen.

Who can forget our bringing order to the chaos that was Libya and Serbia.

And of course, where would the world be today if U.S.-Russo relations remained at their absolute worst thanks to that Russian neophyte Condoleeza Rice.

Good thing Obama has such skilled foreign policy brainiacs like Susan Powers to repair all the damage done.

I used to listen to Beck in the late '90s, early '00s. Back then he was usually funny. I started having doubts when I found out he was a scientologist, oops, Mormon. Then he got on Fox and started with: "We'll put the pieces together on next week's television show." The final straw was him soliciting money to take teddy bears to give to illegals at the border. I figure he's already gone back to coke and hookers.

Beck has been nastier against Trump than Milo has been against anyone.
And not in Milo's fabulous, flamboyant manner, but in a petty, whiny method that I'm sure even Pat and Stu cringe but have to go along.

Even Cruz supporters would find much of it cringeworthy.

The worst part is his schizophrenic hypocrisy. He is Ghandi and MLK one moment, then worse than any internet troll the next. He has vitriolic diatribes against Trump and his supporters like Milo, then turns around and pushes the peace and politeness.

Blogger Robert What? September 06, 2016 9:09 PM

"A somewhat obscure voice, Mike Church, also lost his audience last year when he started harping on Trump and berating the callers who called in supporting Trump. I couldn't stand the guy. The times I checked in to see what he was discussing got fewer and fewer. I noticed his callers got fewer when he begin to say, "the lines are open." And they stayed that way."

As others have noted, he probably turned off a lot more people with his strident Papism; he left Sirius XM before the GOP primaries really heated up so I doubt his opinion of Trump was a factor. He went off of Sirius XM last November, IIRC, replaced by Breibart radio, which is a lot more popular and more appropriate especially during the primaries and presidential election.

I mean, there are Catholic channels on Sirius XM. The one actual conservative political channel on Sirius XM was not the place for Mike Church once he became too overtly religiously sectarian. His creationism and geocentrism didn't help matters, either. Yes you heard that right: geocentrism.

Church was becoming a bit too weird in his unacknowledged contradictions as well; half the show was "muh constitution", limited government, liberty, etc.; the other half was "muh magisterium", and "obey the Pope, you rebellious Americans", ie America was doomed from the start for not "respecting mah authoritah" ("mah" in this case = Catholic Church, not Mike Church).

That and he spent most of the show telling his audience how stupid they are. Not really winning the audience over with that. I mean, if you didn't actually know about the history and the finer points of American constitutionalism and the Catholic magisterium, sure he was educational; but if you already knew that stuff it was tiresome to listen to. Breibart has been a distinct improvement.

NOBODY really expected "Christian" behavior from the Donald, whether you believed he is "a baby Christian" or not....
TED, however, was an entirely
different story. Rubio's demise was
also for similar reasons, IMO. Especially from his Florida constituency who watched his farewells from the Florida Legislature. If you haven't seen that, you should look it up o/l. Might help explain a LOT of the ddisillusionment.

True, but the biggest problem is that they have actually become a force to be reckoned with, and a rallying community for conservatives. That was okay as long as they were just making money for the stations hosting them, but when they grew to the point of the ability to actually CHALLENGE the status quo of power? Just like the word got to Lois Lerner to stifle Conservative 501's, word has gone out to start stifling Conservative radio.
