An Alt-Tech Convergence

This is the good kind of convergence, not SJW convergence. I'm delighted to be able to say that the latest version of Brave, 0.12.9, now features Infogalactic as a built-in search engine. You can either make it the default through Settings: Search or you can access it directly in the URL bar by typing :i, then whatever you want to search for.

For example, typing :i vox day will take you directly to the Vox Day page on Infogalactic.

Another new feature is the new tab page that shows you how many trackers/ads are blocked with Brave, and thus how much time you save when browsing/loading pages

Download Brave 0.12.9 here.

As for Infogalactic, we're still working the phase one speedup. Figure three more weeks before we're able to implement that.

Just updated and noticed this in the release details. Very pleased!

Blogger Brian S November 15, 2016 5:53 PM

nice! my only gripe with Brave so far is I can't seem to export my bookmarks or sync them with the mobile version / other desktops

Anonymous 5343 Kinds of Deplorable November 15, 2016 6:08 PM

Excellent! Working nicely.

Speaking of SJW convergence, we now have a new reporting category. Why do I have this nagging doubt it will be applied when the "hate" is directed at straight white men?

Anonymous CitizenOutkast November 15, 2016 6:24 PM

I don't know if anyone else deals with it, but updating Brave is a chore. I've been letting it go for a few minutes now since reading this and it's still on "we're checking for updates." Usually takes awhile even when I can do anything else quickly on the net, like get por....I mean, do research.

Blogger Brian S November 15, 2016 6:31 PM

it usually pops up a notice by the bookmark bar and updates very quickly for me, haven't had an issue with that

Blogger tz November 15, 2016 6:36 PM

It also imports (yea!). Now if it would only sync

Blogger SirHamster November 15, 2016 6:47 PM

@5: Updates have been fast for me on different machines on different networks. Sounds like a network issue of some sort.

tz wrote:It also imports (yea!). Now if it would only sync

Definitely looking forward to syncing bookmarks and Brave Payments.

If only we could get bikers in DC ...

Now that would be a pretty picture! You go, bikers!!

Updates have been painless and super-fast over here. This is still only alpha-Brave, Version 0.xx, running space trials on the impulse engines. Imagine what Brave 1.0 is going to be like. Now visualize Infogalactic, Warp 10.

Blogger Dave November 15, 2016 8:47 PM

but updating Brave is a chore

My updates happen in a blink of an eye. Send feedback to Brave they might want to log and troubleshoot.

Almost to the Goal of 12,000 (strike) OVER 12,000 signatures now in the time it took to write this, in one day. This alien communist invader/agitator was elected on 17,000+ votes.

"Sawant was born... in Pune, India... Sawant's observations of poverty in her native country and her unhappiness with the Indian caste system helped shape her political views before her adoption of socialism. ..her husband Vivek, an engineer at Microsoft, and moved to the United States. They have since become estranged.

"Shocked by the level of poverty she saw, Sawant decided to abandon the computer engineering field... entered the economics program at North Carolina State University where she earned a PhD. Her dissertation was titled Elderly Labor Supply in a Rural, Less Developed Economy. Sawant moved to Seattle in 2006 and became a Socialist Alternative party member. She became a United States citizen in 2010."

Yeah. Who brought her over here?

Blogger beerme November 15, 2016 10:06 PM

@15 Just type :i into the search bar for infogalactic searches

BTW, Payments beta has 11% of my browsing @ VP.

I like the "new tab" page.

DAE have the browser open in "down/minimize" mode rather than maximize/full screen mode by default? I always use in maximized mode.

OT: Just got this unclass directive in my inbox. The irony is hilarious. Why was this not a priority...when 30,000 emails ended up on a private server?

Subject: Message from the Under Secretary for Management - Mandatory Classification Training for All Department personnel with Clearances

1. As the Department's Senior Agency Official for Executive Order 13526 on Classified National Security Information, I am reminding all Department employees with a clearance (government employees – US Direct Hire and Eligible Family Members - and contractors) of their responsibility to complete training in proper classification and declassification of national security information under Executive Order 13526, Title 32 of the Code of Federal Regulations part 2001, the Reducing Over-Classification Act, and 5 FAM 480. Previously, this training was required for employees who had "original" classification authority on annual basis and for those employees who had "derivative" classification authority on a bi-annual basis. The Department is now mandating that this training occur for all cleared employees and contractors on an annual basis.

If only we could get bikers in DC

When Bikers had there 911 2013 rally in DC it really spooked the leftists. 2million bikers showed up but the lamestream media ignored it.

Anonymous CitizenOutkast November 15, 2016 11:41 PM

Thanks for the tips, guys. I may uninstall/reinstall to see if that helps first as Brave, from the first install, has updated painfully slow, even though I can stream video and whatever fine.

I like the new tab page, but I'll have to customize the top sites list as it picked some odd ones by default. Opera's speed dial is great, so hopefully this will work out at least close to it.

Hey Vox, you got a very brief cameo on the latest Murdoch Murdoch.

Blogger Student in Blue November 15, 2016 11:56 PM

@18. Sherwood family

It may be Unclass, but isn't this kind of stuff almost always FOUO anyway?

Student in Blue: State doesn't have a FOUO designation. That is designated by Sensitive But Unclassified.(SBU)

Anonymous Hezekiah Garrett November 16, 2016 1:14 AM

Using BRAVE now. Testing it actually, since every single thread here contains an entry complaining that they cant comment on VP...

Blogger Sherwood family November 16, 2016 1:15 AM

Student, that is not entirely accurate. State does have FOUO but it needs to be designated as such. SBU typically fills that role but there are instances where U/FOUO exists.

Anonymous Mark Dietzler November 16, 2016 1:31 AM

Anything FOUO would be marked as such, usually where the UNCLASSIFIED is, like so:

Training announcements are not FOUO, typically.

Any updates on Gab from Torba? Is anyone talking to Trump team about a public switch to Gab?

Twitter just needs to go after this latest banning. We get stronger every time they do it but with enough big names switching over, we could hurt Twitter severely, perhaps even kill it.

Blogger SirHamster November 16, 2016 1:57 PM

PSA: For commenting on VP with Brave, have found that I only need to change "Cookie Control" to "Allow All Cookies" instead of turning off Brave Shields.

Just an FYI for those who prefer to use the lowest permissions possible.
