Better than Reagan

Speaking of John C. Wright, the science fiction and fantasy grandmaster reminds us that while the God-Emperor is overturning the media's collective apple cart with his tweets, he is also getting a great deal done:
President Trump fulfilled another campaign promise and recinded the absurdly unconstitutional Johnson Amendment, which is a Dem administration IRS regulation threatening preachers, priests and pastors with loss of their tax free status for their churches should they ever speak on political matters from the pulpit.

I had never heard any so called conservative politicians even speaking on the topic of the Johnson Amendment erenow. It has been in place for decades, an insolent, open, filthy, glaring, and obvious desecration of the central Constitutional liberty embodied in the First Amendment.
Donald Trump is already showing strong signs of being the best and most conservative President the United States has had since Calvin Coolidge. Believe it or not, he's much, much better than Ronald Reagan ever was. I was there. I loved Reagan. And the God-Emperor is, to this point, doing much better than Reagan.

Still. Not. Tired.

On tonight's Darkstream, I explained how Trump has gotten off to a much better start than Reagan did in 1981, and also mentioned some ideas about the possible purpose behind the God-Emperor's meeting with Vladimir Putin this week.

Nothing. I was a senior in college. I wasn't paying much attention to that, particularly since at the time we had no Hispanics in Minnesota.

I agree but it is all for not until he builds the wall. Until then gains are transitory at best.

Still best president in my lifetime and any since Calvin Coolidge. If he can keep up this pace for 8 years it will be best since Andrew Jackson.

Don't know if I can handle that much winning.

"... loss of their tax free status for their churches should they ever speak on political matters from the pulpit."

Another thing that made the law ridiculous is that the preacher or priest could not give any sermon or talk without it being political. The Left-Wing has made everything political. Hell, just saying sister Suzie is a female might be political to somebody.

The best thing Trump could do for the U.S. is to defeat utterly the poisoned notion of "political correctness". The very idea of that thought control is odious.

We have reached the point where the left rejects biology itself. They don't believe that a human is born either male or female --- and will stay that way till death no matter what surgeries the individual has done. (DNA still rules)

I believe Reagan's mistake was believing his opponents were misguided rather then evil and an accommodation could be made with the Left. His Majesty has the benefit of years of experience proving any compromise with the left is nothing but a trap, so he fights to win.

Blogger Mr. Excitement July 04, 2017 8:59 PM

Don't speak ill of Saint Reagan near any of the Baby Boomer True Conservatives. They'll go into fits.

Vox made one of the most enlightening political points anybody has ever made (to me at least) a few months ago on the Darkstream.

He asked "How good was Reagan, really?" (Paraphrasing of course)

Reagan signed the amnesty which opened the floodgates to the Third World.

As governor, he gave America no fault divorce. And a few other things.

Reagan is credited with "winning the Cold War" single-handedly. The Soviet Union would have collapsed anyway, and Reagan was out of office when it did happen.

Reagan is old news.

Anonymous Bellator Mortalis July 04, 2017 9:07 PM

I posted this on Instapundit the other day regarding his CNN WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment)smack down tweet, including some of his actual accomplishments:
+++
Trump's tweets against the media keeps them distracted. Sun Tzu: "Engage people with what they expect; it is what they are able to discern and confirms their projections. It settles them into predictable patterns of response, occupying their minds while you wait for the extraordinary moment — that which they cannot anticipate."

Also in this particular case he is attacking 2 members of the media to frighten the rest. "Kill a chicken to frighten the watching monkeys."

Trump scares the media, makes them angry, and distracts them. Meanwhile, quietly he moves from accomplishment to accomplishment. Downsizing the State department and EPA. Getting most of his travel ban enacted. Illegal immigration is down significantly. Exited TPP and the Paris accords. Hiring freeze on federal employees. Revocation of DAPA. Border wall prototypes being built. Handcuffs removed from ICE. Supporting apprenticeships. Reestablishing the Space Council. Establishing an American Technology Council. Establishing the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy. Implementing a strategy for "America First" offshore oil drilling. Reducing federal power and increasing local power over education. Revocation of multiple executive orders written by Barack Obama. Directed EPA to revoke "Waters of the United States" regulation (the one that extended federal control of waterways to include non-navigable waterways such as irrigation ditches, flood ponds, and puddles). Revoked Obama’s Social Security gun ban. Revoked DoE Title IX guidelines. Banned administration officials from lobbying their federal agencies for five years, as well as banning them for life from lobbying foreign nations and political parties.

This is only a partial list. And while this has been happening the MSM has been focused on fake Russian collusion and his tweets and his trolling.

I believe that these are effective tactics supporting a long term strategy, and that it is working.

Blogger NO GOOGLES July 04, 2017 9:21 PM

It's become increasingly obvious that Trump knows that if he gives the media a free hand, they will use it to attack him. So he is keeping them occupied with things that outrage them, but that most Americans either don't care about, or openly side with him instead of the media.

I know there's inevitably going to be detractors spamming the tired "47 DIMENSIONAL CHESS" meme, but it's more that Trump is just playing chess and the media is playing tic-tac-toe. He is keeping them busy with trivia that allows them to virtue signal while the adults are getting things done behind closed doors.

I knew before he won the election that Trump was being criminally underestimated especially where his intelligence is concerned. But even I didn't think Trump was going to be THIS smart.

He is keeping them busy with trivia that allows them to virtue signal while the adults are getting things done behind closed doors.

In many cases, I don't think he's consciously doing it to them as much as they're doing it to themselves. They just can't accept that they can be screaming through all their megaphones about A, and he can walk into the Oval Office and sign something about B. They've never dealt with that before, not even with Reagan. When they scream about something, the politician has to come face the cameras and answer their questions until they're satisfied. That's how it's worked all their lives.

So they take an offhand Tweet or a rumor from a "White House insider" and try to make that the Narrative of the day, but he ignores them and advances something else. They keep slew footing themselves that way, and as long as he keeps ignoring them and working on his agenda, they're going to keep doing it.

Blogger Valtandor Nought July 04, 2017 9:44 PM

It is an interesting phenomenon, that most of the complaints I've heard about Trump boil down to his unwillingness to be a figurehead and rubber stamp for the permanent bureaucracy, who are, after all, the experts who know what really should be done and how to do it.

Regarding this Johnson Amendment, it seemed like a gentleman's agreement stemming from the days of broad social and political consensus. When anything can become a "political issue" simply by a candidate or party taking a public stance on it, the Amendment seems not merely useless but positively dangerous. I'm pleased to see a plan for it to go.

Building the Wall is necessary for several reasons. But it's true that people who fixate on it and think "no wall yet therefore he's failing" need to expand their vision. Wall planning is underway, and one of these days -- probably the day after an "unnamed White House source" tells CNN that Trump has given up on the Wall -- construction will start. In the meantime, he's getting so many things done the leftists can't decide what to shed their salty tears on from day to day.

I too was there for Reagan. Trump really is getting off to a terrific start compared to the Gipper. There was no cable news back then, but there was no love for the the right by the Networks either. What I most remember about that era compared to now, is that everyone still believed in the American dream, but they also thought they had to work their behinds off to attain it. A degree meant nothing unless you could cash in on it. The sad part is, it cost far less back then.

OT but for some of you not so long in the tooth, I remember people camping out at the credit union which had just been built behind our house for "SONYMA" mortgages at the extreme low rate of 10%. Yes,a ten 10% mortgage was something you asked grandma to watch the kids over and pitched tent at the local credit union just to have a chance at. I remember so well because my brother & I went out and sold them cokes, popcorn and licorice and made a bundle. Economic time were desperate back then..now it is cultural s well. I see slow improvement, and just as Reagan made good on most of his promises to, I see trump trying to do the same. Reagan wasn't perfect, nor is trump, but he's the best shot we have. MAGA

All you can say about Reagan is he was better than Carter,

jump on that bandwagon, why don't you?

prior to Trump, Reagan was easily the best president of my lifetime. which goes back to Johnson.

Carter is in the bottom five worst presidents we've ever had. the only reason i don't consider Obama worse than Carter is because i believe that weakening or destroying America was Obama's overt goal. ie- Obama was actually moderately competent.

remember, Reagan NEVER had the House and didn't even have the Senate for a couple of years.

Trump, nominally ( yes i know that Ryan and McConnell are cucks, at best ), is in a far, FAR better political situation on the Legislative side than Reagan could have ever dreamed of.

Repub control of governorships also simplifies coordination with the individual states and helps to bring allied political force to bear on the national stage which is another advantage which Reagan did not have.

and for all of you spooging about how trolltastic Trump is? Reagan did it first. he called Russia the "Evil Empire" ( attaching nicknames to his enemies, just as Trump does ).

he claimed to have outlawed Russia and said
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgSSRE27GQ0

yes, i admit Trump probably trolls better. don't say Reagan didn't get him some of that though.

Frankly I'd much rather the President focused on getting a handle on the out of control bureaucracy and kicked the Congress into line so the domestic policy can be rolled out more quickly and smoothly. Undoing the lawlessness of the Obama years will take plenty of time, and I'm willing to prioritize.

Plus holding that in reserve gives him another tool to goad the legacy media into a frothing frenzy, which is always amusing.

This is a meme and untrue. If one had to pick a single cause for the USSR's collapse, then pick Islam.

The Soviet economy had very strong fundamentals and collapsed only much later after the USSR itself. Ironically, by 1991 the Soviet economy was the only functional Soviet institution.

What really ticked it off is the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, a very ugly conflict full of Africa-tier war crimes. (Remember that this war happened when both were still technically part of one country.)

After this it was obvious that political unity (or even plain old political cooperation) was impossible, and 'independence' happened. After independence it took another two-three years for the Soviet economy to collapse due to political barriers and general third-world incompetence. (The Soviet economy tended towards horizontal integration, unlike American transnational corporations that tend towards vertical integration.)

Panama was created by the US military. They stole a province from Columbia. It was ours by conquest. And we built the damned thing, not the Panamanians. The Constitution does not forbid war, it merely requires the consent of congress.

Never cared for the Reagan worship, I found his economics, his meddling and the wife to be unsound to annoying. Sorry they were in ill health but not a fan.

I was thrilled to read Putin and DJT are finally meeting up, they are going to get along just fine.

It is now that I almost wish I were American. I pray that we might have a leader even half as good as Mr Trump.

"CNN is making a lot of hay out of doxxing the guy who made the Trump-WWE gif and drawing an apology from him. Going with the ol' 120-point font that's typically reserved for real breaking news stories."

This deserves some sort of proportionate response.

8. D this only applied to honky preachers, ax jerimiah wright, louis faracon

Nah. Progressives have always been given a pass on this. I recall a white retired guest preacher go on a rant approving the Obamacare passage - during his sermon. Nobody filed official complaints against him afterwards. (Although some of us may have chewed on him a bit in the exit line....)

So far, we have had a productive Congress this session. In a good way.

Trump is growing on me.

In his defense, Reagan was up against a completely entrenched Democrat party that controlled both houses and the Supreme Court and they had owned them for a long time.

His own power base was built upon a critically endangered species called the California Republican. He needed GOP Establishment.

Reagan's biggest fault was personal loyalty. He would betray his principles for that every time. He signed the Brady Bill because Jim Brady took one in the head for him.

Much worse was his backing of George Bush as his successor instead of Jack Kemp. He knew Kemp was the better man but he felt he owed it to Bush.

We'be been paying for that one ever since.

And he succeeded in his main goal of breaking their funders' control on Russia's nukes. We might have a chance at victory now because the Commiecrats can't vaporize us all as their Plan B.

I used to think that Jack Kemp would have been a better VP, and successor, to Reagan, but now I'm not sure.

Let's grant that Kemp would not have raised taxes like Bush the Elder. Kemp was into 'minority outreach'. I can easily imagine a President Kemp supporting open borders. His view would be something like "Anyone from the world should be able to pursue the American Dream." Big business would be fine with that, for they would be cheap labor.
The electorate might have changed at a faster pace because of a President Kemp. We might not have a Republican President at all after the year 2000.

One thing in Reagan's favor is that the tax cuts and other economic policies led to superior economic growth in the 1980s. Here is an article which shows GDP by year
https://www.thebalance.com/us-gdp-by-year-3305543

To make a fair comparison, though, we need he GDP results for a two term Trump Presidency.

I was a teenager in the 1980s. I remember how it was. It was one of the most happiest times in my life. I felt the economic prosperity around me. And the risk of getting blown up by a terrorist was a non factor--it was not an issue at all.

Trump was already better than Reagan when he drove illegal immigration down to zero and at least attempted to choke off refugee admissions.

I remember back during the debate about the border fence that was never built, how some cucks and liberals were proposing a "virtual fence".

Well... Trump has ALREADY built a Virtual Wall by scaring the illegals into not coming at all, even if he can't get the cucks in Congress to build the real wall.

Mission Accomplished. (In a sense.)

The lesbian mayor of Houston is crying now that preachers can talk about her again.
http://www.theblaze.com/news/2015/08/03/houston-pastors-hit-back-against-mayor-with-lawsuit-alleging-their-religious-freedoms-were-trampled/

I knew before he won the election that Trump was being criminally underestimated especially where his intelligence is concerned

We need memes of Obama saying "you didn't build that" at TRUMP buildings. The left will believe it.

OTHH I think this came from TRUMP's MAGA website that he asked people to submit suggestions to, I am still waiting on my call for my live illegal alien/felon killing game show.

We don't have enough money or people to stop them let alone Keep them out after deporting them!

Take out ads that the US is stealing/selling kidneys of illegal aliens & that cops ignore when illegals get beat up.

How do we know HanAssholeSolo actually apologized?

Same way we know the woman who admitted the mistake of putting in Bath House Barry's autobiography that he was born in Kenya was honest.
