Vox Day on vid.me

I've created a new channel for my videos on Vid.Me. I'm not certain that we'll be using it for the forthcoming Voxiversity yet, but if nothing else it is a good place for selected Darkstreams. I'm not sure why the Darkstreams uploaded to YouTube by Judeo Christ appear to be of lower video quality than those uploaded by Open Mind, but hopefully we will sort that out.

Anyhow, I need 36 more followers before I can get verified, so if you're signed up there and you don't mind, please follow. I spoke with one of the Vid.Me guys on Twitter today; unlike YouTube, they have a way of limiting content to paid subscribers, the problem is that they don't yet have a way of allowing the creator to provide paid subscriber access to unpaid subscribers who are supporting the creator through another method like Kickstarter or Patreon.

They also appear to be less converged than YouTube, which is a pretty low bar, of course, but is one reason to utilize them in preference to the current industry standard.

Now, obviously, there will be plenty of free general content for everyone, which will go on the YouTube Voxiversity channel as well as my Vid.Me channel. But if anyone has any ideas on the ideal way to distribute premium video content that is limited to patrons, please feel free to share them.

Obviously Judeo Christ went with the cheaper software package.

It's not ideal, but you could distribute links to private videos on YouTube. You make the video accessible only via the link. I have seen people on Patreon do that, and it works.

Issues which make it not ideal:

* It's YouTube

* It's an honour system. If somebody shares the link publicly, it would be publicly accessible.
Perhaps there is some way to track this - not sure.

Signed up. I'm a paying subscriber for training vids and content on two different systems, Kajabi, which is not WP and is an all-in-one product with vid hosting, billing and payment, and storefront. The second one I'm a paying user on is a Scrivener training site that is on WP and uses the WP Courseware plugin. Course Cats is another popular WP plugin. I know you are not a huge fan of WP, so maybe something like Kajabi. Kajabi's pricing is not outrageous considering the amount of paying clients you are likely to get.

Thanks, Orville. I have a look at Kajabi. Never heard of it.

BTW, for those who have problems with VD's Periscope audio and don't want to get banned for mentioning it (again), VD's uploads to vid.me have MUCH BETTER audio levels on both my Android phones. You can, too.

Thanks for this, Vox. The only time I have to listen uninterrupted is when I'm driving, and the sound levels of periscope on my phone make that impossible.
I'll need to up my data subscription.

Half OT (warning- can't be unseen) A Facebook employee known as Pinky is living out of her car

Some neo-Tolkien type needs to do an epic ... ok, in the Harvard Lampoon the Witch King was beset by several piqued elves that pulled his hair so he fell on his sword.

SJW Convergence is cancer. But I can't quite sync Sauron Justice Warriors.

@22 the links are all in Vox's original post.

Blogger Ceerilan July 30, 2017 3:12 AM

Vox, have you considered using Minds.com also? They offer monetization, a way for followers to help gain views for your videos (called boosting), and support for the video format of your choice. They are also run by an anti-SJW Bill Ottman.

One downside of vid.me is that they do not offer rss support. According to them, they are not planning on offering it either: https://www.reddit.com/r/vidme/comments/6hq8k2/vidme_have_rss_feeds/dj4iktr/

That makes it harder to monitor new video releases. This is not a big deal for the Darkstream uploads, because I watch those on periscope, but my be a concern for future content.
