When the narrative fails

Following the strategy that the New York Times and other mainstream media publications have utilized with me, NPR buries its interview with Milo:
Former Breitbart Senior Editor MILO flew to New York specifically to take part in an extensive interview with NPR about his bestselling book, DANGEROUS. During the July 10 interview, which MILO has provided exclusive footage of, the host stated that the interview would be going live the next day. MILO was then reportedly contacted by an NPR producer that clarified that the interview would be published the following week.

When the interview was still not published, leading MILO to question why it had not gone live, he was reportedly informed that a short version of the interview would be published “sometime in August.”

When asked for comment, MILO said, “It’s perfectly obvious from the constantly shifting deadline from NPR producers and the line of questioning from the host that they were expecting a low-rent troll — someone who would assure the broadcaster’s ossified audience that anyone sympathetic to the President must be a redneck or an idiot.”

“What they got was me: an articulate, New York Times bestselling author in complete command of his material,” he noted. “If America were finally to hear a provocative, intelligent, fabulous but eminently reasonable gay free speech crusader who leans to the Right — yes, I’m still talking about myself — it would be devastating to the Left’s speech codes and dedication to political correctness and identity politics. So NPR did the only thing they could in the circumstances to protect the narrative: they nixed the interview.”
You can hear the interview here.

Even college radio stations have been known to interview Milo and have second thoughts about airing it. LOL.

So, I guess one sign that you've handled the Media well is if they never let the interview see the light of day.

Yet again, proof that talking to the media is POINTLESS.

Even if you win, they'll bury it.

Considering that they lack the self-awareness to censor left wingers who make them look mentally ill, I am surprised that they can make the determination that a right winger has had a positive interview and bin it.

Anonymous EH July 19, 2017 2:28 PM

He triggers them so masterfully.
Milo at [43:48 - 43:34]:

[his book's sales are] sailing into six figures, right. [Despite being self-published after Simon & Schuster backed out of their contract]

It's very clear that they just didn't want the level of opprobrium and noise and drama and controversy that I attracted. And why do I attract that? Partly because of what I say but mostly because I'm really effective and the Left is scared of me. [[44:00]]

They are really, really worried. Because if gay men can do it then maybe women will be next, and then maybe Black people will be after that - and suddenly the victim-driven identity politics coalition the Democrat party has put together over the last thirty years might suddenly come crashing down.

And what will they have left then? Because they've given up on the white working class in America -- they've given up on the working class in general to be honest. They've never done anything for the Black community, despite constantly pandering to them.

What will happen then when they don't have gays or women or immigrants or Muslims or Blacks or anyone else left -- they've given up on the working class - the Party will evaporate.

Milo has been banned from Twitter as most here will already know. It was predicted at the time that Twitter's stock would go into free fall. That happened.

Milo is a hoot. He is a gay Brit fellow who is very entertaining while getting his right-wing message out. He is dangerous.

Love that guy.

Blogger Johnny July 19, 2017 2:30 PM

I wonder if it would be useful to come up with a standard contract that anybody could use when encouraged to do an interview. The concept would be using it when it is anticipable that the interview will be hostile. If the other side won't sign the thing, which I imagine would be the most common outcome even with mild conditions, don't do the interview.

Better yet, don't do the interview. Vox has covered this many times. You cannot win.

Milo was speaking 240 words per minute in the section I quoted, which implies ~10,000 words in 45 minutes, all publication-quality. Amazing.

Nice to watch the dysfunction at NPR.

This popped up on my recommends list at youtube already, I was thrilled as always with lovable Milo but rather puzzled with NPR's error - these people don't understand when you do wrong by Milo he will and does do his own thing on his own platforms. All he has to do is use the power of the pen and he shines.

NPR made Milo more coveted, thank you NPR. Hopefully the ADL can further nullify themselves into imbecility and attack Milo along with insulting Vox, Cerno and Tara for no reason.

DTTTM or at least air the interview at peri or youtube or whatever.

Have we cut NPR's funding yet?

Blogger praetorian July 19, 2017 3:00 PM

The worst thing about the media isn't the explicit point-and-shriek stuff that Milo points out, it's the Narrative steering that they do. When this NPR schlub starts sputtering that he only calls someone racist "once or twice a year" while amplifying every black shot by a cop and ignoring every horrific black on white crime, it makes me very very angry.

Sure. Anyone can come up with any contract they like. Actually enforcing it is a whole other issue. What part of "don't" is not clear?

Blogger liberranter July 19, 2017 3:04 PM

Nobody from the alt-right should EVER give an interview to a MSM outlet.

1. They will ALWAYS distort what you have to say through selective editing.

2. Their audiences consist, for the most part, of brainless leftists who will never be influenced by your message.

3. Related to number 2, no one with an above-freezer-temperature IQ who is capable of informed critical thinking pays any attention to the MSM, so why bother?

At least Milo had the foresight to record the entire interview in order to maintain an unadulterated record of his offering.

Blogger Cail Corishev July 19, 2017 3:06 PM

I am surprised that they can make the determination that a right winger has had a positive interview and bin it.

Some of the smarter ones are starting to realize they don't always come off the way they expect to, so they're becoming more hesitant about running to press with things. They still don't understand why, and they're not going to be able to change it, but they're at least catching on that, "You know, the rubes might not cheer for this the way everyone in the newsroom did."

Even if you win, they'll bury it.

Yep. Since Milo had to record the interview and publish it himself, he could have had a neighbor interview him and saved the trip to NPR and the risk that they might find a way to make him look bad. His situation is special; the media burned him before, so he kinda needed to go for a rematch. But it shows why the best advice for nearly everyone in every situation is still: Don't talk to the media.

Anonymous BluePony July 19, 2017 3:22 PM

Are they really that out of it? No one at NPR has ever seen Milo on a news show handing ProgScum their own asses?

"the Party will evaporate."

I'd warn that news (ha!) of the Dem's death is, as yet, exaggerated. They keep up the Narrative because of the old "repeat a lie often enough" approach, and it still works on many ordinary people.

I mentioned CNN's idiot two ice cream scoops story at work a while back, the two otherwise intelligent people commented (after I had to explain it) about how that's the least of his problems as Trump would be impeached *any* *day* now. These were not autistic, SJW Trump haters, but apolitical normies who still mostly believe the headlines and stories from the MSM news. They don't know or understand why they shouldn't.

Try it. You'll get about 50% blank stares at even the phrase "fake news". People are generally disassociated from any reality more than 20 feet away from them. Start talking about Clinton's uranium deal, and their eyes glaze over, fall out of their head, and roll under the couch. I think it's a defense mechanism of some sort.

Anonymous BBGKB July 19, 2017 3:24 PM

It's impressive that Milo didn't give NPR anything they could have edited together to make him look bad.

Considering that they lack the self-awareness to censor left wingers who make them look mentally ill

They are so used to controlling the narrative that a convicted child sex offender being the face of NCs tranny bathroom bill or a convicted rapist leading an OH gun control group would never get out if they could do anything about it.

Yes, Ms Muhammad is the first American woman to wear the hijab during competition as part of a US Olympic Team.

And it is celebrated with glamorous coverage in Vox.com.

My impression is that 15 to 20 minutes into the conversation, the interviewer decided that this interview is unpublishable and just checked out.

Anonymous CarpeOro July 19, 2017 4:14 PM

It was interesting. By five minutes in, Milo already had the interviewer acting as the apologist for the left wing media. No wonder they wouldn't air it because it was downhill from there for the NPR interviewer/queue card flak. Milo exposed him as having done no research beyond the left wing media into what he has said.
Milo's target audience will see this and be further disillusioned regarding the old media. I expect fewer interviewer requests for Milo in the near future - he has had missteps but this only adds to his profile and detracts from the Left.

Blogger VD July 19, 2017 4:16 PM

Nobody from the alt-right should EVER give an interview to a MSM outlet.

In general, and for most individuals, yes. However, as Mike Cernovich has demonstrated, there are times when the net benefit exceeds the risks. 60 Minutes, and in particular, The Atlantic profile were game changers for him. For example, I will not do an interview about me, my beliefs, or the Alt-Right. But I will certainly do interviews about Infogalactic and Castalia House, or about books we publish; the Wired interview about Infogalactic was definitely a solid benefit whereas the one about me was purely cost.

Blogger Glenn Phillips July 19, 2017 4:37 PM

I don't think that interviewer was up to the task. He has the standard boring sleep-talking npr voice. Oh yeah did I say low energy as well. It's understatement to say that Milo owned that interview. Npr took a popsicle stick to a gun fight.

Blogger Ceasar July 19, 2017 4:56 PM

Ha..just finished watching the interview. There was NO WAY that NPR was going to play this interview for their audience. If you listen real closely, you can hear the interviewer cutting himself in the background.

Can someone help me understand what the key difference is, here? At first glance it appears to be "talking about concrete things that you have made vs talking about you and your beliefs", but that's not the case with Mike's 60 Minutes interview.

Then again, is it more of a question of pushing a brand? That's what Infogalactic/Castalia/books essentially are, and that's what Mike is doing with himself, but the average Joe Blow Alt-Righter is basically a nobody and doesn't have a brand to push. And instead of pushing a brand they think about "winning the debate or interview" instead of it being a side effect.

Is that correct?

There are friendly media outlets too, not just hostile ones, and it's important to know the difference. The fact that it's stupid for almost any Alt Right figure to give interviews to hostile media doesn't mean it would be a bad idea to give an interview to Stefan Molyneux or Tara McCarthy.

Anonymous franklinjennings July 19, 2017 7:15 PM

Hilarious. Milo points out that the media exists to enforce the narrative and tell people how to think, not to find the truth. And they prove his point by trying to HIDE this articulate, gay conservative from their audience! The Acela corridor must be protected from the truth that the voters who elected Trump can't ALL be redneck coal miners! LOL. The liberal media can't stop beclowning itself!

Watch the last 20 seconds. After going at God-level for 45 minutes straight, he takes off the headphones, smirks, does a vainglorious jiggle of his head and says, "I should do interviews on 2 hours of sleep more often."

Tremendous. It also shows why cuckservatives are so contemptible, especially those in congress. They have a huge platform, and if some congressman would only operate at a 0.1 milos (a metric to describe effective realtalk) the shattering of the narrative would be tremendous. Yet on the field of battle, with every sort of rhetorical gun available to them, these cuckservative congress-critters will not pick up so much as a pebble to throw.

Milo steamrolled this guy. The interviewer had 2 points: 1) Hey that's not true! and 2) You bring it on yourself!

That was his whole show. A total mismatch.
