#1 New Release

SJWs Always Double Down is the #1 New Release in Political Philosophy.

And it won't actually be released until October 9th.

Meanwhile, SJWs on Twitter are shrieking in amygdala-stress about how no one will read Alt⭐️Hero, no one cares about it, how they are Laughing Out Loud about it, and how it is utterly doomed to failure. This is a rather remarkable response considering that not only has it not been released yet, but we have not even launched the Freestartr campaign for it yet or released the video for the campaign.

I promised you REEEEEEEES. Have I not delivered? Am I not kind?

A few informative examples:

Candy Corn Vampire‏ @BrendanHykes
I look forward to not even noticing this as it comes and goes.

Choz‏ @Chozraham<
I'm sure this will be a smashing success and will in no way lead to your sad humiliation.

zeverzanger‏ @zeverzanger
pfhehehehehe. Oh wait you're serious. Let me laugh harder! BAHAHAHAHA.

Zachariah‏ @BrainshockZetav
Sounds like you desperately want a comic that panders to your scared white ass but ok lmao

Lil Uzi Vers‏ @bifIexuaI
Lmaoo what

Thibault LDS 🌺‏ @Thibault_LDS
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Q U E E R VO I D‏ @wryyyan

What I found the most interesting was the idea that anything short of an undefined "success", which as we all know will be redefined and re-redefined as Alt⭐️Hero meets with the usual metrics of success over time, is tantamount to "sad humilation". Think about how twisted one's psyche has to be to make that connection, and what a crushing fear of failure one would have to have in order to think that way.

That is the heart of the SJW, which is not only terrified of failure, but is terrified that someone, somewhere, will be successful doing something of which the SJW does not approve.

Of course, SJWs have good reason to be terrified of Alt⭐️Hero. Because they know they are the true villains and the enemy in the cultural war.

On a very minor Voxiversity note, the new microphone I bought to improve the audio for the videos has already proven its value, as it fixed whatever audio problem I was having with the iPad Mini on Periscope. So if you're a Darkstream regular, you can thank the 199 201 Voxiversity backers for that.

UPDATE: The first Alt⭐️Hero fanart has already appeared.

I started working on my own version of the alt-hero premise, and unfortunately had the genius idea of having most of the heroes license their costume identities from Big Comics. Which requires inventing a whole fictionalized set of those, leading to a ridiculous number of required character designs.

You are right about the mindset. There exists millions of ventures which I find neither interesting or upsetting, which I don't care to opine or belittle, because they are nothing to me. The guy who collect hub caps from junk yards and makes them into abstract art/timepieces? No opinion. I neither care if he succeeds or fails. BET, the cable station. No opinion. I neither care if it succeeds or fails.

In fact, I really can't think of any venture - with maybe, maybe the exception of Planned Parenthood - that I've spent anytime in contemplating their ultimate failure and closure.

Even SJW based businesses - I couldn't care less.

I am looking forward to seeing the business model for Alt Hero.

The old one of general store turnstile racks and Charles Atlas ads hasn't been viable for a while. Marvel Comics has been killing off comic book shops. And Vox would have known about all of that before putting Alt Hero in diapers.

I think he must have something new in mind and I am very curious about what it's going to be.

Blogger Markku September 27, 2017 10:14 AM

Note: If someone plans to do the same approach with the mic, and he either has Android or an OLDER iOS device (that still has the 3.5mm plug). You need this product:
https://www.amazon.com/HTTX-Splitter-Headphones-Headphone-Microphone/dp/B01LGFG6MI/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1506521073&sr=8-9

If you have a new iOS device, then you need to plug the output of the previous product to this product: https://www.amazon.com/Lightning-Earphone-Headphone-Splitter-Charging/dp/B074X9CS65/ref=sr_1_16?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1506521370&sr=1-16

Note: Though you can use whatever model for the first product, the second one must be exactly this. Only a tiny minority of these adapters support the mic input of the TRRS plug (the plug that looks like a 3.5mm headphone plug but has one extra ring for mic).

Yep. The REEEEEEEEEEEES are director's cut bonus material mixed with some excellent marketing, but doggone if they aren't entertaining on their own.

They are additionally useful for an artist to know whether or not he's close to the proper target market's interests. Because the SJWs are parasites dependent and attached to the surfaces of relevant institutions (such as comic readers) their REEEDAR signals tend to serve as word-of-mouth pre-sales to the real buyers.

In other words, disaffected MARVEL fan won't hear about Alt⭐️Hero from CHC. He'll hear about Alt⭐️Hero from the fat quivering bastards who got rid of Thor and ruined the X-Men.

REEE as force multiplier marketing. Very smart.

No. Antifa is epithet enough. No one in Antifa wants to be labeled as such. It is a queer-sounding word that either means "thug", "pedo" or "ninja LARP" to most normal people who see antifa bare-assed and crapping on a street.

Remember, Nazi was a chosen brand. SJW was a chosen brand. Liberal was a chosen brand.

Anonymous Looking Glass September 27, 2017 12:10 PM

@53 Student in Blue

Funny thing is that it's the Japanese that have figured out that making "cosplyable" outfits is what works best for designs now. As a lot of "geek" stuff went mainstream, there is suddenly a lot of attention to be gotten, online, by dressing up as a scantily-clad heroine.

Notably, Supergirl is a lot more popular than the new Captain Marvel. I wonder why?

Also, Rebel is a red-head. Clearly of Irish descent. I'm not cracking up about a time at Confession. "No, child, beating up the thugs for Babylon isn't a Sin."

Blogger Akulkis September 27, 2017 12:11 PM

@Resident Moron™

Why do you need to be told that which is both something you know and blatantly obvious?

Blogger Akulkis September 27, 2017 12:14 PM

This is why SJWs hate concealed carry. They know they are too cowardly, even if they had a firearm, to defend a family member against a mugger -- and so abhor anyone who actually does shut down a mugger using a firearm.

Anonymous A Deplorable Paradigm Is More Than Twenty Cents September 27, 2017 12:19 PM

Also, Rebel is a red-head. Clearly of Irish descent.

Anonymous Looking Glass September 27, 2017 12:20 PM

@56 Akulkis

They hate CC because "guns".

They hate Guns because their the most statistically likely to be killed by them. "But suicide is the highest gun..." Yup.

The SJW has a crippled endocrine, stress response and reward systems. They'll either use the gun on themselves or someone else. They fear their own demons, and since they always project, it's clearly *other* people having guns that are the problem.

Anonymous SciVo de Plorable September 27, 2017 12:39 PM

Think about how twisted one's psyche has to be to make that connection, and what a crushing fear of failure one would have to have in order to think that way.

There is an entire book, Mindset by Carol Dweck, devoted entirely to trying to bring the novel wisdom of the "growth" mindset -- that the results of your endeavors are merely feedback on what you should do more, differently, or less -- to her fellow "fixed" mindset people, who see those results as a public display of their eternal true nature.

And good on her for putting that out there, but I perceive an inherent impediment in a self-help book aimed at people that don't believe in self-improvement. It was probably mostly bought by people that were already mostly growth mindset, and just wanted to crush and burn the last vestiges of fixed mindset from their psyches.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be obscure.

I like to listen to the Periscopes in places where it is inconvenient to have the screen on my phone lighted. But Periscope pauses when the screen saver kicks in. I can listen to them on YouTube Red for $10 a month (which allows audio play to continue with the screen dark), but you don't load many of them to YouTube.

So I would like to have the Periscopes available as a podcast. With that, I can drop the monthly fee to YouTube and I'd be perfectly happy to throw that $10 somewhere more useful.

If it's a situation where someone needs to make the effort because you're busy, I would be willing to figure out a good solution.

Blogger roughcoat September 27, 2017 2:51 PM

If Vox doesn't mind it being done, it wouldn't be hard for a third party to pull the audio from his streams and upload them to someplace like SoundCloud.

It's just annoying because Periscope doesn't make it easy to pull the audio right out of a stream replay (as far as I can tell), so the best solution I can see so far is just replaying the stream and recording the audio in Audacity in real time.

But maybe there's a browser media capture plugin I don't know about that can get the Periscope audio out in a single download. None of my capture plugins even see the audio/video when I play a Periscope stream.

Blogger Markku September 27, 2017 2:54 PM

Only the owner of the Periscope account can natively extract the file from a Periscope. There are some services out there, but I don't know how well they work.

Blogger Akulkis September 27, 2017 3:08 PM

So is that the Captain or the Officer of the Day who owns the Periscope? Or is it CINCNAV?

So many questions now.

Blogger Cail Corishev September 27, 2017 3:09 PM

No, Periscope doesn't provide an audio-only download. However, you can download Periscopes as MP4 with a program like youtube-dl and then pull out the audio with a program like ffmpeg.

Blogger daddynichol September 27, 2017 3:10 PM

Perfect. I know you have more.

Blogger Markku September 27, 2017 3:11 PM

Audacity can natively open mp4 video file as audio, and then save it in any audio format. So, the only problem is getting the mp4.

Blogger Cail Corishev September 27, 2017 3:20 PM

http://yt-dl.org/ works for me.

Blogger roughcoat September 27, 2017 3:20 PM

Well that was super easy, thanks for the suggestion, Cail. Youtube-dl worked perfectly with no configuration.

Blogger Resident Moron™ September 27, 2017 3:21 PM

I use http://downloadperiscopevideos.com/ to download them.

For a couple of reasons:
1. VLC playback gave better sound control when the volume was low/noisy
2. Deutsche Telekom is messing with the cabling in our street to streaming is frustrating, and will be until they get it fixed.

There's bound to be a conversion function somewhere.

e.g. The YouTube Download plugin I use for Pale Moon allows you to only download the audio.

Blogger James Dixon September 27, 2017 3:30 PM

> So, the only problem is getting the mp4.

Youtube-dl can handle that, though I think the latest version I tried didn't like Periscope. An older version worked fine.

Blogger roughcoat September 27, 2017 3:45 PM

The windows executable version of youtube-dl I just downloaded worked fine for me. Then I just opened the mp4 in audacity and exported the audio. All told maybe 45 seconds of effort plus a couple minutes waiting for the download and encoding.

If I could figure out why vlc is hanging when I try to extract the audio via command line it would be pretty easy to automate. But it's probably not worth the trouble of dicking around troubleshooting this when it's so easy to do it manually, given it would only need to be done once a day.

Blogger VD September 27, 2017 3:53 PM

If Vox doesn't mind it being done, it wouldn't be hard for a third party to pull the audio from his streams and upload them to someplace like SoundCloud.

I don't mind. Just name it Darkstream or something like that so people can find it.

Blogger Gordon September 27, 2017 3:57 PM

Not a fan of periscope, in part due to it being a Twitter owned platform, however it is possible to use it on a PC. Just have to run something like andyroid or bluestacks. This should open up the way for nicer webcam and audio options. Microsoft surface makes a great option for PC usage in tablet form.

Blogger LP9 September 27, 2017 4:34 PM

Fantastic!

Blogger roughcoat September 27, 2017 4:41 PM

Alright, I started a soundcloud account and got the URL set up. Just "Darkstream" was already taken.

Darkstream Archive

Still need to spruce things up to make it look nice, obviously.

Right now the latest darkstream audio is up, completely raw as I downloaded it and extracted it with audacity. Sounds fine to me but I'll probably pull it and upload it again later, depending how the other audio files turn out.

Since the free soundcloud accounts limit the total uploaded audio time to 180 minutes I'll just keep the latest 5-6 up, and archive the rest elsewhere. More details to follow.

roughcoat, internet sources tell me that the uploader can choose whether the file can be downloaded or not. I can't see the icon I'm supposed to see, so I think you made it non-downloadable. There's no reason not to offer them for download, if some people want to archive all shows.

Blogger roughcoat September 27, 2017 5:04 PM

@ VFM #6306

Thanks.

@ Markku

Fixed, thanks for pointing that out.

I've never used soundcloud as an uploader and while it's pretty simple, the features are not readily discoverable. You basically have to know what's possible and go looking for where to do it. It took me at least 5 minutes to figure out how to change the URL because that option wasn't in "settings" as any normal human would expect.

I tried normalizing, and the volume got doubled from your raw audio. So, although this one is good as is, I think you should hit "normalize" for your next ones. It should add about 10-20 seconds to the process.

Blogger Markku September 27, 2017 5:14 PM

After opening file: Effect->Normalize. Default settings.

Blogger Markku September 27, 2017 5:27 PM

The same operation should make ANY Darkstream, before the mic change, acceptable. They will be as loud as the ones with proper mic, but they will most likely have a bit more noise, and sound a bit more unnatural (due to the lack of the bottom range of frequencies).

Blogger roughcoat September 27, 2017 5:27 PM

I'm not an AV guy so I'll take your word normalization should be done. It hardly took any time anyway, like 4 seconds on the one I just encoded.

Blogger Wolfman at Large September 27, 2017 5:29 PM

So much REEEE! So much... and they're only reacting to one picture!

And it's not just funny how they're reacting, it's hilarious that they're reacting at all.

This really is going to put people in the hospital.

The entire Marxist gay furry artist twitter community may never recover.

And it's only just beginning...

They have no idea what's coming! No idea!

Blogger Markku September 27, 2017 5:32 PM

Normalization means increasing the volume until the largest spike in the audio would "clip", or in other words, be too loud to be exactly reproduced by the speakers. If you know what you are doing, you can even go further than that, and allow certain sounds like pops from faulty wires to clip. But normalization is always safe; there are no circumstances in which it would create any problems in the audio.

Anonymous Brick Hardslab September 27, 2017 5:47 PM

Diversity & Comics has had two videos taken off YouTube in a few hours. I can't figure out why. He didn't dox anyone or threaten anybody but they're down anyway.

Can't wait for an alt to YouTube.

Anonymous CoolHand September 27, 2017 5:53 PM

God, I love the internet.

Blogger roughcoat September 27, 2017 6:04 PM

Interesting. I kinda knew what normalization was, but only enough to know that it made different things sound about the same volume level. I mostly limit my audio editing to clipping out annoying dead space and making mixes.

In one of these files there's a nice big spike where Vox cleared his throat and it's screwing up the normalization. It's at about 24:30 in "The conservative disinterest in culture". Not sure what to do about it, if anything.

Thing is, I honestly can't tell the difference between the normalized and unnormalized files. I don't have a tin ear, I just think there's something going on with my laptop audio. The amplitude obviously changes in audacity but they sound exactly the same when I play them, whether in VLC or Audacity.

Maybe there's some lower level normalization going on in my laptop, though I can't guess why that would be the case. But I've never had the audio problems while watching the darkstreams in my browser anyway, so I don't really know what people who do have that problem are experiencing.

I'll have the latest six darkstream audio files uploaded in the next 20 minutes or so.

Blogger Markku September 27, 2017 6:13 PM

Try this: Before normalization, zoom in by holding down ctrl and rolling your mouse wheel up, until you see roughly only the problematic area with too much volume. Select the problem area between two locations where it crosses the zero line, and in between is the large spike you want to remove. With that selected, choose Effect->Amplify. Type in -4 and apply effect. Do this to every spike that is screwing up normalization. Then select nothing or everything, and normalize.

Blogger Markku September 27, 2017 6:14 PM

To be clear, MINUS 4, not 4.

Blogger Markku September 27, 2017 6:24 PM

You need to have the edges of the selection be at crossing of the zero line, because otherwise you will cause a pop at the edges.

Anonymous JeremiahEmbs September 27, 2017 6:33 PM

Replying to 24. Cataline.

Already Vox's business model has some advantages in that he'll publish digital first which make distribution a non-issue which is important because Diamond has a monopoly on comic book distribution at stores. Then he'll publish hard cover which helps because he can have online bookstores and brick and mortars carry his book so he's not dependent on comic shops. That may be important if pressure is applied to the stores to not carry his books. Comic shops are strange and fiercely independent places being small businesses so such a strategy could backfire, but we'll even see if the natural reactionary reees go beyond those into such a strategy. I have my doubts.

The reason I doubt it is because a small indie book poses no threat to the big publishers like Marvel and DC. These types of companies have been collectively in the business for over a hundred years and there were pulps before that so they know how to adapt and survive. Batman, wonder woman, and superman have never gone out of production since they were launched despite the massive swings and devastations that have hit the comic business through the decades. In times of trouble they just cut back on the unnecessary titles, lay off all the artists, and stay lean on until the next upswing.

So even a large cultural shift in the types of comics desired by readers wouldn't phase them. They'd just get new writers and appeal to a more conservative audience like Disney did when Christians started boycotting them. (Christians fell for it too unfortunately. And now Disney is just appealing to the Chinese market with Mickey Mao)

Anyway, Vox knows the publishing business so that gives them an advantage that most indies don't have going in. Indies are notorious for failing, but that's how the free market works. Everybody can try and some make it and most don't. But we have to remember even the most successful indies like Image and Darkhorse don't pose a threat to DC and Marvel and despite the huff they are friendly competitors exchanging characters and talent freely.

The indies that fail usually do so because of bad business practices sooner or later. Not counting the cost of production or not paying their artists and lying about their viability publicly like Crossgen did. It's not usually a lack of artistic merit. It's financial and ethical deficits that eliminates most startups.

Vox probably has some printers lined up, and that will help because printing cost is the biggest expenditure in comics, but I hope they understand how to print comics, which is a printing specialty. And I hope the colorists and letters and scanners know what they are doing or the books won't turn out right and the printers may charge much more to fix a lot of problems and much of the art will need to be redone, but we'll see how it goes. Comic production is technical more so than artistic and people without experience in the field can overlook many things that will cause later problems, so if there is trouble I suspect it will be there. But either way a digital distribution should work out if just a few things are taken into consideration technically. So it's just a matter of generating interest I would think.

Blogger Markku September 27, 2017 6:36 PM

We'll print it on-demand with very, VERY high quality and pricey equipment. So, the product won't be cheap. But then, we're not aiming at mass-market at this point. This is going to be bought by those who REALLY want it.

Blogger roughcoat September 27, 2017 6:38 PM

Worked like a charm, thanks. I don't hear a pop in my final output. With earbuds in I can tell that one particular file sounds slightly quieter than the others, but it's a minor difference.

Blogger Markku September 27, 2017 6:40 PM

Yeah, you'll only get a pop if you're REALLY clumsy with the edges of the selection. If your error is small, such that your edges are, say, 0...10% of max amplitude instead of exactly 0.0, it won't be a problem.

Blogger Markku September 27, 2017 6:52 PM

Yep, sounds good. Now that the volume levels are normalized, it also demonstrates how much the mic improved the actual sound quality. The other files sound muffled compared to the latest one.

Anonymous Clouseau September 27, 2017 7:01 PM

Dumb question from somebody who knows nothing about publishing. How does it work getting distribution to bricks and mortar retailers from a small publisher? Is that a straightforward thing or is there corruption involved with actually getting stuff onto store shelves?

Blogger Markku September 27, 2017 7:11 PM

We had some "contacts", and got an account at a service that is for the big publishers. So, basically the answer is "you can't do it", in normal circumstances. But, the deal is, you have to price the product in such a way that it makes sense for a brick&mortar store to order your product to their stores. You have no other control of it, except to price yourself attractively. And they still might not order it.

Blogger Markku September 27, 2017 7:18 PM

So, your publication goes into a catalog seen by all store owners, and the hard price that you set, is how much it will cost the store to order it. You also set a "recommended" retail price, but nobody has any obligation to sell it at that price. However, any store will know that their competitors will, on average, sell it at that price, so the difference between the two tells them how much profit they will make per sale. Then they'll decide if it makes economical sense.

By making the difference larger, makes it more likely for a brick&mortar store to order it. But you as the publisher make less money.

My MemeFu may not be The Dankest Evar!, but I ain't helpless either.

Vox probably has some printers lined up, and that will help because printing cost is the biggest expenditure in comics, but I hope they understand how to print comics, which is a printing specialty.

Our printers can handle everything. Comics is a non-issue for them. We'll have a lot to learn on the layout, but we'll deal with that when the time comes. Right now, we don't even know if we'll be doing it or not; that's what the Freestartr is there to determine.

My mentions and impressions blew up for linking you the fanart on Twitter.

One piece of fanart.

The rule of fandom is that product that inspires great love inspires great hate. Holds true for games, TV shows, what have you. And it's the intensity and quantity of the love that determines if the product is viable.

This level of hates bodes well for the Freestartr.

Anonymous Looking Glass September 27, 2017 11:44 PM

This relates to SJWs & the Darkstream, but it's on the topic of "Failure".

Part of the issue, which is something I've helped people with in other contexts, comes down to "The Script". You tend to see this more with Women, but the median Man has the problem as well. Society sells them "scripts". But they're "A to B to C to D" style. Any deviation means you "fail at life".

What it means in practice is everyone is being told their a failure from the start and there is no reward for trying things. Their perspective has been skewed in such as way that all roads actually lead to failure.

It's a ripoff of the original Alien movie poster and tag line, so the format of both the image and the quote was more or less set by the source material.

Point taken on the text being too small to read on some platforms though, fixed that.

I know this should be obvious but comic book fans are generally young. What's the plan for getting the comics in front of youth, given a lot of them have some sort of parental controls on their internet access and somehow I doubt ISPs (generally converged or controlled) are letting red pill sites through.

Nice. Was hoping to see more of an upper torso shot. Capture more of Rainbow's flamboyancy.

Also, watch out for JPG artifacts. The Alt-Hero text looks fuzzy due to those. JPG is a lossy format and makes the picture look worse when you change things and save it. JPG is good for saving photo-realistic images, once.

For digital art like cartoons, a lossless format like PNG is preferable.

The artifacts are there because the source material was very tiny.

Can't really be helped when going from such small originals to a much larger composite.

But honestly, it's a meme not a master for a new movie poster that's going to be printed in large format, a few artifacts are acceptable.

Did the best I could with what I had, either it causes lulz or it don't.
